Just wondering I've never seen SG before but people seem to make him out to
be an angry guy. Any stories about him anyone'd like to share?

It seems like the coolest bands I've ever heard took awhile to grow on me.
Soundgarden was easy to get into, (esp. BMF-first one I bought) but it took
many listens for them to emerge into favorite band status. I make it a rule
now to
listen to a CD at least three times before thinking about selling it to make
sure I don't get rid of a diamond in the rough just because I wasn't hooked
on it from the first listen.

For those of you planning on going to the Charles Town show, it would be
cool if we could meet somewhere either before or during the show on
Tuesday. I plan on being up there at about 11:30 or so, and I'll be
driving a green Ford Bronco with a tan top. (That ought to be the same
as finding the proverbial needle in the haystack, but you never know...)

So, if you're interested, let me know. Maybe we can plan a SOMMS meeting
place.

Oh yeah, I'll be out of town from Friday until Monday night, so if I
don't respond to someone quickly, don't be discouraged. Leave me an

Dear All,
I don't think this has been suggested before and I've been on this
list on and off from a couple of months after it started I think, I know Seth
already has absolutely bags of work to do, but he did say that the site
should be almost twice as big by the end of the holidays.
My suggestion is that I think it would be cool if there was an interactive
page that had all the albums/songs etc. so that we could all leave
comments about what we think of them. This would be good for a couple
of reasons, firstly it would mean that there would be somewhere we could
go to to find out if an album/single/whatever is worth buying (obviously if
it's Soundgarden it is), but it would also mean that it then wouldn't be
necessary to mail the list to ask peoples opinions, they'd be there already.

By the way I think that the Chris/AIDS post was both unnecessary and
immature, the arguments for it were weak and I think it should have been
kept personal (sorry SHROOM).

Well, at Des Moines the shirts were about $23.00 and they had three of
them. Two were described before and the third was this weird

I bought a Lollapalooza shirt (black with a multicolored ball on

girls vs. boys were cool...make sure to catch ben folds five, if
they're on that leg of the tour. they were great. (a baby grand piano

NO!!! i've never seen the clan live, but their recordings are about
the only rap (along w/spearhead, guru and some beasties) that i can
really get into. they've got some nice arrangments and really are a
creative, innovative bunch (dirty ol' bastard is cool)...i would give
'em a chance.

your food-break band??? easy...rancid. they bit ass in des moines.
absolutely stunk. that was the second time i had seen 'em live and
they were terrible both times. maybe they should concentrate a little
less on maintaining the "hopping punk" image and focus on
learning to play their fucking instruments, keep a tune and write some
decent songs. christ...i can't even emphasize how awful they were.

perhaps our multimillionaire listmember nothingman (or shall i
say...SENOR nothingman, based on his probable move out of the country
with our hard-earned t-shirt cash????) will be able to post bail for
you...i doubt it, though... :)

for what it's worth, the trees put what i felt was the finest show in
des moines...they absolutely sparkled. our boys from sg were
fantastic, and the ramones were just pure, vintage...well...ramones.
how else can you describe 'em? they were great. psychotica sucked, the
monks didn't show and waylon jennings (special guest)...well, he was
different. not bad, but nothing special. he brought his raspy-voiced
son out to sing (and i use that term VERY loosely) "knockin' on
heaven's door"...yeeeeech...i would have spit out my mouthful of
bottled water if it wasn't worth more than my car... :)

have fun and watch out for testosterone-heavy mosh-pit

I have been getting the digest for about a month or so...belevie it or
not I had _NO_ SG albums when I subscribed, just had heard friends' CDs and
thought they were cool. Now, thanks to the list, I have Superunknown and
DOTU. I couldnt stand having everyone talk about songs on DOTU and be
like "well, I've heard PN on the radio..." Anyway, I agree, it kicks
ass. I think my current favorite song is zero chance, but previous to
that it was dusty. Also, BIMH and of course PN are sweet. i've only had
the album for 4 days so no deep thoughts yet.

Couple of Random thoughts (of course all IMHO)...

instances. It seems like 50% of each digest is people talking to each
other which isn't very useful for anybody else.

I was at the SG Showbox show & from where I was (in the back) the sound was
great. Chris' vocals were clear & his voice was incredibly strong. Caryn &
Bonnie were up front for the show & they both said it sounded muddy from
the front row. Since it's a small club, where you were standing could
effect the sound quality. The show was a warmup for lolla, so it wasn't as
long as a normal sg concert where they would be headlining. There's a copy
of the playlist on the seth's webpage. I've herd sg play at the armory in
new york in '94 & that sounded horrible. But speaking for myself- the
showbox concert was one of the best shows I've seen & heard.

Sorry to post this to the list but . . .

anyone would like to call him (politely) I will give one *1* member of

Please (!) only people interested in finding out facts, not reaming ass

I got the phone number from an old email message he sent me when I set

first, the other noise...i was recently in florida on vacation, and i found
a little record shop down there....inside, i found two interesting pieces of
vinyl....the ultramega ok (complete with inlay art and pictures), and the
outshined single on vinyl...it was very cool looking....it had the
badmotorfinger designs on the record, and a picture of the band on the back
of the record, complete with a plastic cover, with the soundgarden band name
logo.....it looked so interesting, and it seemed like a collecters item,
but to my dismay, i only had ten dollars....so i went with the ultramega
OK...did i fuck up? someone with some knowledge of the outshined album
please let me know....
second, in regard to "moshing"--which IMHO is the cheesiest, most played out
word since "radical".......i have a wide range of musical taste, and i go to
lots of diffeerent concerts.....the epic struggle in arguing about mosh pits
is pointless....everyone has to understand that moshing, alternative music,
flannels, and all else, is not original. its original within itself, but
the concept of music shaping the kids is TIRED......the same as
breakdancing, michael jackson, the talking heads, the breakfast club,
downtown julie brown, madonna, parachute pants, vanilla ice, mc hammer,
warrant, "hair bands", motley crue......
FADSFADSFADS
and fads are bred from insecure adolescents who do what's "cool" to fit
in....people who can't think for themselves....the typical genre of a high
school person.......remember when greg brady turned into a hippie and turned
mr. brady's den into his "pad?" same thing........
point being, the jock head fucks, insecure dorks, and greg brady's of the
fucking world, along with every reformed new kids on the block fan is at
these shows, doing the breakdancing of the nineties....they don't know any
fucking better.....
in conclusion, the make my point, one of the best concerts i ever went to
was the green day concert at the riviera, a few years back, before dookie
came out......the entire chicago punk community was there...and in unison, i
might add......the worst show i've ever been to was the green day show in
chicago at the aragon, about 8 months after basket case caught
fire.......thousands of pea brained little shits, and doofus football
players killing each other, all for MTV (green day "jaded in
chicago"....remember) it just goes to show how society often breeds
ignorance........

there is. those guys hung out a LOT together during lolla 92, i know
someone who's got all the videos (well, almost all of them) of pj's
performances from that tour and the amount of times chris shows up to
sing background vocals is amazing. i know eddie would return the favor
during sg's set occasionally, but since i only have one lolla sg
performance, i don't know for sure.

my personal favorite is at irvine meadows where eddie tells the story
that two years ago, he was at a sg show at that very venue and he was
down there (pointing to the pit) during sg's set. ;-) (wait, was that
irvine meadows or mountainview? <pointing to the pj historian on the
list --> chris mansfield!  yo!>)

ah, like you all care anyway. ;-)

i read erin's review yesterday and, having been back in this country for
only a few years, asked chris, 'um, is this like a new thing to do at
shows?' i know it was 'accepted' at metal shows in the 80's, or so i
hear (and saw the one time i saw GNR at a stadium show in London), but i
was at a frickin' *radiohead* all ages show a few months ago and girls
were doing it. what exactly is the deal here?

on the one hand, it's like, okay, is this an expression and assertion of
sexuality? i mean, guys can take off their shirts whenever they want.
some grrlpunk bands (tribe 8 in particular) take off their shirts when
they play and encourage the audience to do the same. i mean, i'm not
trying to equate the two here... one is equality between the sexes, one
is stupid women trying to get attention the only way they know how, take
off their clothes. (on the other hand, like tribe 8 said the last time i
saw them where the venue forced them to put their shirts on, 'women can
only take their clothes off when a man's making money off it...') and
when i saw iggy pop back in may the grrl next to me took off her shirt
the minute he came onstage and i thought it was cool. ;-) argh.
inherent contradictions, i'm just full of 'em lately!

i'm really trying to understand this. if there's any girls on this list
who think this is cool to do, please write and explain to me why.

Well, I know some of you have seen the comment page I did for DOTU --
I can extend that to all of the albums really easily. It would be cool

Sommsters,
I really hate to suggest this, I considered Nothingman a friend and I
really hope that he has a email problem and that there is a legit delay in
getting us the shirts. Nothingman if you really have a email problem and
you just haven't gotten the shirts made yet. Please write me at:

                    103 W. 4th St.
                    Bethlehem, Pa 18015
and explain the problem to me. In any event I would like everyone who
ordered a shirt to respond to this message and tell me how many shirts
they ordered, how much they paid and what kind of money order they sent.
Meaning Postal, American Express, Other. I am also going to email
Nothingman privately with my phone number and fax number. I am also going
to write him tommorrow. If by next thursday we/I haven't heard from him. I
suggest at that time we prepare to take action. It isn't my $20 that I am
disturbed about, it's the violation of the trust of the list members. A
lot of considered him a friend, and I just don't like the fact that
someone may have taken advantage of the mutual respect and understanding
we have for each other as sg fans. Seriously with all the flaming and
bickering that has occurred on this list, I would like to think that as
sg fans we have some consideration for each other and that we wouldn't
take advantage of each other in this way. I know I have had some flame
wars with people on this list. But I still have the utmost respect for
someone who can appreciate the sg. Lastly I really hope that there is a
legit reason why the shirts haven't been delivered. I think it was caryn
who said a couple of months ago to be be careful when meeting someone
outside of the list. I thought she was being a little ridiculous. Now I am
not so sure. One more thing, it really isn't a paltry sum of money
involved for the shirts. Think about it, approzimately 150 people wanted
shirts. Say 80 of them sent money, lets say 1.4 shirts a person, thats
about 11.20 each plus and average of +3 postage so lets just say $15 bucks
each. That comes out to 1,200 dollars not a small fortune, but a decent
amount considering all thats involved is a few email messages and
    checking the mail.
