Hey there was a Lolla Past Present and Future thing on MTV tonight.
Anyone see it? It has some interviews with Chris and Kim. But it was
mostly about Perry Ferril <sp?>

Anyways, is this what you're talkinga bout? The Lolla special? Or is
there another one that's gonna be on?

hi,
i have a few Soundgarden shows on tape and cd and i know many of you
dont have the money or time to go out and search for ones so I am
willing to make copies( on tapes of course) for you at no profit for
myself. I know that a coupkle years ago when i first got into Sg i
would have been estatic if someone would let me listen to all theese
cool recordings.ok anyway i have:
title place min grade
Crown Of Thorns- Europe 92'-100 min - B
Black Hole sun- san jose 94'- 60 min- B
Stolen Prayers- demos - 74min- A+ unreleased demos
Olso, Norway 94'- 90 min- A- my tape is cut off
at the end thanks to an uncool trader
Somewhere 92' - germany - 60 min - B
Reading Fest 95' - england- 90 min - B- Christi and Ty cobb are
played

ok all you have to do is send me $ 3 and the names of the tape(s)
you want me to copy for you. The $3 is for shipping ( priority mail,
one fee, $3 semi large package) so if you would like copies of all
the bootlegs then send me 6 tapes and 3 dollars ( i hope they all
will fit in there though) . i will mail them as soon as i make copies
of them but i wont go out my way so it might be a week before i mail
it.anyway i hope you all enjoy any tapes i might make for you. i have
a bunch of b-sides that i will stick to the end of taes if if theres
is any time left. this is open to anyone in the USA.

if anyone can tell me where in hell eddie is in that song it'd be

In a guitar magazine I ran across an ad for concert videos. They are offering
a couple of Soundgarden tapes. The first is called "Soundgarden: Motorvision
(Live in 1992) and it is $25. The second is called "Soundgarden: A Night To
Rememeber (Live '94) and this is $30. Does anyone on here have either of
these concerts? If you do, please give me a extensive detailed report on
them. Last time I posted this, I got no response. Someone help me here.

I have it and its cheaper at record stores (about $12). Its
good----there are some parts with the band talking in a van and its
pretty entertaining but the concert part is better. Sub Pop guys
Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman talk about the band and stuff on it.
Its well worth it.

The songs they play are:
Searching With My Good Eye Closed
Rusty Cage
Outshined
Little Joe
Mind Riot
Room a Thousand Years Wide
Jesus Christ Pose
Slaves and Bulldozers

Subject: Vince Whirlwind explained

The following is a slightly edited review of a SG show from October of
1990. I did periodic reports for a friends 'zine ( i've forgotten the
name). If the response is positive I can post some of the other reviews
most of which are from 1990.

Seattle, WA- i mentioned in my previous show review that a Seattle
instituion would be closing (the Central Tavern). The club has hosted
all the great hometown bands including Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Green
River, and alice in Chains. Last weekend was no different with the club
hosting a benefit for local DJ/journalist Jeff Gilbert. Gilbert's house
was broken into and his computer was stolen (including the book he was
working on). The show featured hardcore bands Unearth, Myramainz, Panic,
Bitter End, as well as My Sister's Machine, and special guests Vince
Whirlwind and the Nude Dragons...

When Vince Whirlwind came onstage the crowd freaked. I guess everyone
didn't know that Nude Dragons was an anagram for Soundgarden. The band
started out with a cover of "I don't care about You" by Fear, which ran
into "Sub Pop Rock City." After SPRC Chris explained the origin of the
alias and that Gilbert was Vince Whirlwind.

SG was well at ease throughout the show. it was obvious they were just
out to have a good time-which probably explained their unusual set list
that included a medley of Rush's "Working Man" and Zeppelins
Communication Breakdown.

After the medley SG played both sides of their new sub Pop single that
was a bonus single for the Singles Club. Room 1000 years Wide came
across the best of the two.

For some reason the band broke into "I don't care about you" again.
This time, however, they broke into a what-can-best-be-called "jazzy
version" of "Gun". They closed with Incessant mace of Ultramega O.K.

SG's relatively new bass player Ben Shepherd seems to have slipped well
into his role. Interestingly, SG played with a different drummer
(Scott Sundquist). No explanation was given for the absence of Matt
Cameron.

     Metal Hammer - July 1996
'Shooting From The Hip! 20 Questions with Chris Cornell'
     as interrogated by Jerry Ewing

MH: What is the proudest achievement of your life so far?
CC: Living to be 31 years old! When I was 15 I was pretty
convinced that I wouldn't make it. I dunno why, I just
thought something big was going to happen to me one way or
another -- either I was going to die or my life was going to
change dramatically somehow. It just happened to change
     dramatically.

MH: Do you believe in God?
CC: No, because the interpretation of what God -- or a god
     -- is, I wouldn't have. I don't see some white, grey-haired
old man sitting on a throne throwing lightning bolts at us
     when we least expect it.

MH: What is the music scene like in Seattle in 1996?
CC: It's very non-Seattle. It's very much like the LA scene
was eight years ago. A lot of musicians and bands from
outside Seattle moved there to 'make it big in the music
business'. So now all the demo studios are doing big
business and all the rehearsal studios are full and charging
lots of money (laughs). It's kind of helped the economy,
     but not the music scene.

MH: What is the most outrageous thing you've ever done while
     you've been in Soundgarden?
CC: Hmmm... Whatever memory I have of it, I might have drank
it away between then and now. What could it be? Hmmm...
I'll have to stick with my first answer -- that whatever
memory I have of it I've drank away.

MH: When was the last time you got so drunk you threw up?
     CC: It's been a while. I'm not a big throw-up guy. I don't
like it, so I try to not throw up regardless of how much I
drink. I usually pass out and fall over first. But when we
were in the studio for 'Superunknown' I was trying to quit
smoking a I was chewing tobacco instead. The producer guy
brought in this bottle of Scotch, and I hadn't eaten that
day and I took a big pull on the Scotch, and I had the
tobacco in my mouth. It went down good, so I took another
big swig. And then all of a sudden I was rushing to the
bathroom and my whole head felt like it was going to explode
and I was throwing up pure Scotch and tobacco. It was
pretty awful, but me and Scotch are friends again now.

MH: Should abortion be legal or illegal?
CC: There's different types of abortion and there's
different reasons for doing it. But if you look at it this
way: in terms of overpopulation, from ghettos to the white
under-class, it doesn't make any sense to me to have these
militant religious sects try to ban abortion. I think if
they really want to protect children and do some good they
     should look after the living.

MH: Have you ever committed a crime, and if so what was it?
CC: That's an easy answer: yes. But these are the sort of
answers it's probably best not to elaborate on!

MH: Why do people think you're a miserable bastard?
CC: Probably because I'm not very good at the whole
self-promotion angle of rock music. I think kids are
brought up to see rock bands as being these devil-may-care
crazy people who throw out a lot of one-liners and live life
on the edge; creating personalities like Alice Cooper and
Ozzy Osbourne created. We've always been interested in
making music, so the whole angle of presenting ourselves is
foreign to us. Being uncomfortable makes us seem quiet and
depressed and perhaps a bit miserable.

MH: What is your favorite breed of dog?
CC: Dogs are kind of like people; breeds have a certain
significance. But the dog I had with the most personality
was a mixed-breed. It always seems to be the mixed-breed
dogs that do the craziest, most eccentric things.

MH: What music do you like to have sex to?
     CC: Real moody stuff.

MH: What do you think of British rock music that's around
     today?
CC: Well, being from the U.S., the only British rock music
you ever hear about is the pop that gets video and airplay.
I sure like it more than the British new wave that got
played the hell out of in the '80s -- the Human League,
Thompson Twins. There's a lot of British pop I feel I can
get off on today, but it still sounds like British pop to
me. The point is, it doesn't sound like anything new. But
I'm also convinced there's a lot of British rock music
that's good that we don't get to hear.

MH: Have you ever been for an Aids test?
CC: Once, yeah. There's quite a few rock musicians who have
quite a promiscuous lifestyle, but I'm not going in after
every tour for a new Aids test -- 'Well, have I got it this
     time?' (laughs).

MH: Have you ever been threatened with a gun or at
     knife-point?
CC: No, not really. I've been near people who have pulled
guns. Not to threaten me, but to show me they had a gun.
Like, 'Leave me alone, I have a gun!' But I was a lot
younger then. I saw someone get shot once, in the Bay Area,
     though.

MH: Do you have any strange hobbies?
CC: Hmmm... I collect wax! No, I don't, really. Ha ha,
beautiful gloves of different colored wax! No, not really.
I talk to myself, but I guess most people do. And I'm sure
whatever I'm saying to myself is quite interesting.

MH: What do you think of the Kiss re-formation?
CC: I predicted that when they did their self-promoted
tribute to themselves record ('Kiss My Ass'). I thought
they were really into keeping the name alive so they'd
eventually do the original line-up thing. And now a few
years later it's here. I think it'll be great for old Kiss
     fans.

MH: What was your first job when you left school?
CC: I left school pretty early, but I always worked in
     restaurants, bussing tables.

MH: What's the worst thing about being in Soundgarden?
CC: The best thing about being a successful musician is that
you're your own boss. But the worst thing is aspects of not
being able to just do anything you want to do. You have
this sense of freedom, and it kind of gets shattered. As
soon as you've finished an album you have to agree on
packaging and photographers and stuff that doesn't come
naturally to us. Ultimately, though, you think it's just
great being a musician and being able to make music.

MH: When was the last time you saw Eddie Vedder?
CC: I think I saw him in a magazine shop at the airport. He
was on the cover of a European magazine. He looked like he
was in pretty good spirits, though. But I can't remember
     the name of the magazine.

MH: What would you do if Pamela Anderson came backstage at
one of your shows and propositioned you?
CC: I'd have her arrested, and I'd have my lawyer contact
her lawyers, and I'd sue her for sexual harassment and I'd
win. And it would be like a very big legal case. You
always hear about sexism in rock, but I've never gone off
and touched a woman when she didn't want me to. But many
times on stage and off I've had girls come up and grab my
crotch, and that's sexual harassment. So I'd take her to
court and I'd sue her husband and Baywatch and everybody,
because I'm American and that's what Americans do.

MH: How would you feel if one of your band attempted to
     commit suicide?
CC: Well obviously I wouldn't feel to good about it. But I
don't imagine that would ever happen. As a band we're all
     too stable.

with all due respect, we on this list do not live and die to provide you (or
anyone else) with soundgarden information at the exact moment you demand it.

first of all, i would call your attention to the Unofficial Soundgarden Home
Page, at http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden.
this resource should answer any of your questions, and is available to
someone who is still using Lynx, so get off your butt and use your brain and
try to find some of the answers to your questions yourself. (gee, what a
concept)

imo, $25 sounds a little pricey for motorvision. you can find a zillion
used copies around here for about $10 on the average. i don't know what it
goes for new.

Subject: clear vinyl and other memorabilia...

hey all,

today i finally dragged those 5 boxes of cd's and vinyl that have been
sitting in the corner of my living room over to this really cool store on
the east side, in order to sell them. they have TONS of seattle scene
memorabilia on their walls, including just about every possible sg
collectible imaginable (not for sale, of course). but they've always been
nice guys so i thought i'd give them my used stuff... sold about $300 worth,
and what sucked the most was that finally, i could buy just about anything
in the store i wanted... and there was NOTHING i wanted! gak!!!

i was chatting with the owners as they went through my collection (took them
about 1 1/2 hrs) and they are HUGE sg fans as it turns out. i asked them if
i could come back and photograph some of their stuff for the page and they
said "sure"! they aren't on the net yet, but will be shortly (just bought a
computer) -- i told them to check out the page, and suggested maybe they'd
like to help with a collectibles guide? wouldn't it be a great thing to
have one place on the page you could check to see what the 'going rate' was
for a single or other rarity, to know whether you'd found a great bargain or
were being ripped off? i mean, it's up to seth of course, but i thought it
might be a good idea...

also, they have about 5 of the clear vinyls left, if anyone out there wants
one and didn't get one, it would cost you $25 including postage (it's about
$22.50)... write and let me know...

so if we had a list of everything imaginable, and next to each item a
reported low price, reported high price, and the average price, that
would be cool for everyone?

and if it looked something like http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/guide/
that would be good for everyone, too?

and if i decided not to see this through to completion tonight, given
that it's saturday night, people could live with that as well? :)

this is the type of stuff i really enjoy, where everyone contributes
in order to accomplish stuff that's beneficial to all. give me a few
days and i'll try to have a list made and i'll try to write some
scripts to automate adding new prices and computing averages, etc. i
can't promise you anything, though.

in the superunknown cd-rom for $20 but decided to hold out for a better price...

to the guy who asked if his black vinyl Room/H.I.V. Baby single was a good
buy at $12, i'd say so. saw one today for $50. saw a grape one in another
store "on sale" for $90 (regular asking price $100).

picked up the pretty noose UK 7" red vinyl today also. b-side is jerry
garcia's finger. it's pretty neat looking IMO. the cover is just like the
CD single but it looks better as a 7" cover. limited edition 5000 copies
and mine is #915. seth, let me know if you need a scan of this. (i'm too
lazy to go look at the page right now. :) ) also seth, suggestion for the
page if you don't have it on there already: a "wish list" of stuff you want
for the page, more specifically scans of official releases so we know what
to look for. oh yeah, also got the '94 rolling stone issue with SG on the
cover. can scan that too if needed. :)

also picked up motorvision for $8 and louder than live video for $10. :)
and a BMF sticker that will eventually make its way onto my car somewhere. :)

was a good day. :)

:) Chris
