Howdy 'yall,

Something must be done! Shannon, I'm sorry, but posers are everywhere, even
Seattle. And I'm sorry that those of us going to Lolla will likely have to
deal with the same shit that Ben had to deal with. Who's to blame for all of
this? I say it's the media. The over exageration and hype in the news and
television, on MTV, and in movies has forever changed the lives of concert
goers everywhere. The "Freaks" think that that's how it's supposed to be,
and that's their excuse for violence. There are many who go to concerts now
just to beat the living hell out of each other, not for the music. They act
like chickens with their heads cut off, running around in circles slamming
into whomever is in their way. Last week, I went and saw the
Supersuckers/Reverend Horton Heat/BH Surfers in the lovely land of Bremerton
(made famous forever by Sir-Mix-Alot). Anyway, there were people there who
wouldn't know a S.Suckers or Rev. song from their ass, yet they were slamming
during every song and pissing off everyone who came to enjoy the show during
the respective sets. The same thing happens at every show. People were
slamming at Sweetwater and the Presidents for christ sakes! It makes no sense
to me whatsoever. Gone are the good old days when everyone was into the music
and pogo'd along in unison with everyone else. The last 2 times I saw
Soundgarden that's the way it was. Smaller shows are usually okay, but not
the big rock shows. And crowd surfing is way out of control too. Everyone and
their mother is surfing now. Personally, I don't because I'm too big. But
that doesn't stop multitudes of others from doing so, some who weigh well
over 200lbs. I have no problems with dropping such individuals unless they're
hurt and need out. I saw PJ in San Fransisco last year and the "pit" area was
not open to everyone, only a limited number of people were allowed. It was
first come, first serve, so the number of "freaks" was so limited that they
weren't noticed. I was quite impressed as were the friends that went with me.
It was a breath of fresh air.So, all in all, I have basically one thing to
say to the "freaks" in the world: "If you can't get it up and your girlfriend
dumped you, stay at home and bother someone else." Sorry this post was so
long, but I needed to vent some steam. :) Anyway, who else is going to Lolla
at the Gorge? And Washington must be special, because the ticket prices are 5
dollars higher than Des Moines. }:/

Thanks for listening,
Aaron

hell-o,

what the hell is wrong with this selling out thing?...........i think sg is not a sell out, never was, and never will be!!!..........
the thing is that when a band creates good....(in the case of sg, GREAT!)...
people tend to listen to them....even those who are new to such kind of
sound......so eventually loads of people NOW listen to sg...
i think that is not selling out.....it is BREAKING THROUGH whatever
barriers there are that separate listeners... :>

I'm in a band and have a quite a few close friends who are also in bands. A
friends band signed with an important record label and released an album
later last year. They were also unhappy with the sound of the album and a
lot of people have asked how that could happen if THEY were the ones who
recorded it.

Well, when you record with an established record company you have to do
things there way for a while before you're able to call the shots. In this
case it was the mixing of the album. The albums are usually recorded and
then mixed by people from the record company.

What I believe happens is the record company attempts to market the band in
a specific category and so the album is mixed to sound like that type of
music. This may sound a bit contrived, but the mixing of the album can
change the sound completely. I mean, you can't mix and album and make Jesus
Christ Pose sound like elevator music, but by changing levels you can bring
out certain sounds that are associated with certain types of music.
I won't try and explain which sounds I beleive belong with certain music,
but listen to the sound of things like the guitar on a Bon Jovi album,
compared to a Bad Brains album, compared to a Sting album, compared to a
Soundgarden album. Get the idea?

High kiddies... I read an interesting thing on one of the AOL Music
boards this weekend. A guy who "supposedly" got backstage at one of the
Lolla shows said that Chris' laminate (all-access pass) had a picture of him
and Susan kissing on it. (Is he not THE most awesome guy in the world??!?)
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I have now seen the new PN video twice and I don't like it nearly as much as
the old one. First of all the they didn't play the old one enough as it
was. It was on for about 4 days and then it was just gone. The old one is
much cooler and makes you think. The new one is just a bunch of colors.
What prompts the bands to make more than one vid. SG did it w/ BHS and STP
did it w/ Vasoline -- but with those two they were just different editing
jobs. I'm starting to get really pissed off with MTV anyway.

Sorry, that' my Rant-o-the Day

The Kozik PN vid (un-edited) is still in heavy rotation on Much Music in
Canada. It's played "at least" once a day. I'm not positive, but I
think its still climbing on the MM charts, the last I saw it at was #8.

BTW, to all the people who get Much Music, there's s'posed to be a huge
Canada Day bash today with tonnes of live bands broadcasting from Molson
Park in Barrie starting at 8:00PM EST:

I Mother Earth, Our Lady Peace, Rainbow Butt Monkeys, Tea Party, 13
Engines, Killjoys, Ashley MacIsaac to name a few...

Hello, I just got AOL two days ago and I was in heaven to see all the great
stuff on Soundgarden. I've been listening to the band since 1989 and I have
most of their records including imports. Soundgarden has got to be the best
band ever to form (Mother Love Bone, too), they are a god sent. I am in
love with Chris Cornell I think he is a gift to earth. It is my life long
dream to meet him someday, along with the band. I waited in line for
Loolapalooza tickets for the LA show just so I could see Soundgarden. Lucky
me, I got the farthest section back in the corner. I'll be lucky if I can
distinguish which one is Chris on the stage. When I was in Seattle last
summer I was bright eyed the whole time hoping just by chance I would see
Chris, in which I would jump on him and give him the best liplock he's ever
recieved (sorry, little lady!). The day will come!!!!!

I love you,
Jessica
