Hey Sommites,

I was perusing my local record shop this weekend and came upon some stuff that
I'm not sure are worth buying.
1. Flower single (CD)$8
2. Fell on Black Days single (Picture Vinyl)$10
3. The Day I Tried to Live (Picture Vinyl)$10
4. Ultramega OK (Vinyl LP)$11

I just wanna know if these are worth buying strictly as collector's items.
Are they rare?Any input would be appreciated!

That commercial was on every five minutes last night during 120 minutes.
On one hand, it was great to see more exposure of SG but on the other hand,
it made me sick of Pretty Noose awfully quick.

It can only help the band ultimately.

Subject: alt.music.soundgarden on new RS

while going throught the new issue of rolling stone (metallica cover) i
found this little snippet in a mini-article on newsgroups:

That single-mindedness is a far cry from the scattershot posts on
alt.music.soundgarden, where Soundgarden often seem to be the last thing on
anyone's mind. Recent posts here were more involved with bickering over the
relative merits of Eddie Vedder and Smashing Pumpkins or choosing a favorite
metal album than with discussing the music of Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil and Co.

This is totally true. Before finding the list i spent a couple of days
rummaging through all the bullshit posts on a.m.s and posting pleads to ppl
to actually talk about soundgarden and discuss the music, but to no results.
Thank god i found the list, because that has got to be one of the worst
newsgroups i have ever visited.

okay, i've been through this already, and i'm sorry if it sounds like a
lecture:

what most of you need to understand is that in the 70's, kiss was THE shit.
every teenage boy wanted to be in kiss. every teenage boy owned every kiss
record.

kiss *were* cool, and wrote some GREAT rock songs! "Deuce", "Detroit Rock
City", "Rock and Roll All Night" -- i'm sorry, you have to have cotton in
your ears to think that they suck.

Of course. Your opinion is the right one. If someone else disagrees,
well, they must have cotton in their ears. Please.

they were NOT about superficial stuff

Really? Outlandish costumes and makeup, those things aren't superficial?

- - --besides which, they were the FIRST rock band to go out on the road with
the full show -- stage set, lighting, pyro, makeup, costumes.

And...? Being the first to do something doesn't neccessarily mean it's
worth doing.

 NO ONE had
done that before kiss.

Does their being the first to do it make it any less silly? I don't
know about you, but I go to concerts for the music. When I see this
huge, elaborate show, it seems dishonest somehow, as though they are
hiding something. If the music is good enough, why all the artifice?
Isn't that one of the things everyone despised about those 80's
hair bands? (in addition to the shitty music) All that uneccesary,
rock star, poser stuff-the kind of thing sg are not about.

i think they don't want to open for kiss for the same reason pearl jam
aren't going to do it -- because the cheapest tickets for this tour are
*$50*, with the best tickets going for $200 -- some seats onstage are going
for $500! it's a total, blatant commercial ripoff and is really not what sg
are about.

- - --caryn

That I agree with. I'd be sorely disappointed if sg did tour with them.

A Biblical character. He was a scribe/priest that told the Israelites that
were removed from their homeland & exiled to Syria that they were the
covanent people & begged that they return to the covanent ways & to Israel.
He was also one of the first Jews to return to Israel after the exile was
ended.

A book in the Bible. In original manuscripts it was grouped with Nehemiah &
apatly named Ezra-Nehemiah.

There is no question that the two have totally different
meanings. Since some asswipe refuses to give me back my Temple cd, I
cant say who wrote the music. Was it McCready or Cornell? Oh well.
Ithought for a while that it (Footsteps) could have referred to drugs "I
got scratches all over my arms/ One for each day since I fell apart" but
this could be like some suicide reference. My question (not sg related
(sorry Seth)) is that the person referred to in these lyrics: is it a
girlfriend or is it his mother/ stepfather.

Anyways, it was a pleasure clogging your mailers with PJ stuff... ;)

when I first heard dotu, I thought 'oh yeah, not a bad song'
(probably the same as you), but now never named is one of my personal
favourites. I just think that you have to marvel at the absolute
*tightness* of the whole song. not to mention the cool lyrics, the
unreal squealch kim does in the verse riff, the riff itself (ben is a
master), chris' lyrics and matt's unbelievable drumming. littlejoe sort
of wrote it off first as a jokey kind of primus-tune, and I know another
list member who doesn't like the speed of the song, but if you listen to
it a couple more times, then you may get into it a little more. and just
think of how it will sound live :)

as much as I like ben as a musician, good call on his half vocals
vasant. to me, they are so not in keeping with the rest of the
superunknown sound that half grates on my nerves. I'm all for artistic
freedom, but after mailman, limo wreck and fourth of july, the last thing
I want to hear is half.

as for it being his real voice, I don't think so. his singing on
the hater record is very different to what he does on half (read: much
better). more singing for the sake of the song, rather than just singing
to try to create some weird sound. if ben had sung half in his 'normal'
voice, then I think it would have been a more listenable song.

I agree jeremy, overflaoter is way cool on the headphones. and
here is something for you to try: the left channel (I think) at 3:41,
just before they launch into that great 'wanna make it right' part. matt
does this roll, and there is this (to me, anyway) cool click, like a
rimshot or something. the funny thing is that it isn't in the other
channel, so either matt did two drum tracks (not likely) or his mics were
set up so that it isn't on both speakers.

at any rate, it is one of my favourite dotu moments, besides the
fact that it is on the speaker that has chris and his rhodes piano :) I
recommend that everyone listen to the song with just that channel on. it
will make you hear the song in an *entirely* new way.

Hi Shroom! I just heard you on Rockline. I was surprised at how soft spoken
you were-was that just nerves, or your regular speaking voice. After
reading your posts, I expected you to sound kind of like Belle Watling in
"Gone With the Wind". That isn't a judgement on your character or anything;
she's my favorite in that movie. I've got to get to sleep, I have a job
interview tomorrow. Can someone who taped Rockline (Monday) make me a copy
of it?
