Puck was rude and vile, but he made a hell of a lot more sense than

Puck-Pedro thing anyway...I guess I could relate to him more (god, how
pathetic, I think I AM watching too many real world re-runs), he was

I THINK THAT METALLICA FORGOT ABOUT THEIR FANS THAT HAVE LISTEN TO THEM
SINCE 1985 OR 1986
MY OPINION IS THAT BOB ROCK IS THE RESPOSIBLE OF METALLICA's LOOK AND ALBUM
BUT I DON'T CARE OF THEIR LOOK,I CARE OF THEIR MUSIC,BUT IS NOT METALLICA
NOTICE ON THE SONG MAMA SAID, IT'S LIKE CONTRY.
THEY DON'T DESERVE THE NAME OF METALLICA.
WHEN I LISTEN TO THE FIRST TIME I WAS SURPRISE OF THE MUSIC THAT THEY WHERE
PLAYING
BUT I'M STILL A FAN OF METALLICA
AND THE WORST THING IS THAT ALBUM #7 IS ALL READY DONE AND IS THE SAME
MATERIAL OF THIS ONE.
IF METALLICA WANTED TO KNOW WHERE WAS THEIR REAL FANS I THING THEY ARE DOING
A BIG MISTAKE.
BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE METALLICA BECAUSE OF THEIR MUSIC.AND NOW THEY PUT THIS
NEW ALBUM AND LOOK AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL REJECTED THEM.
I WILL FOLLOW THEM WITH A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW BUT I STILL A METALLICA FAN.

Hey ya,

As sick as everyone else is of reading all the trash that is printed in the
form of a so called review of DOTU I think we can say one thing: look at the
score board:

>I heard on Q104.3 that DoTU was the #1 album...is this true?

Number 1 with a bullet first week in on the Australian national charts (not
the alternative charts either, number 1 there too I think) Haven't checked
the 2nd week yet tho.

As far as I can tell the media seems to be writting the band off so much
cause as we are told so many times 'grunge is dead' geez never knew it
lived. I never changed what I listen to cause of a fad or hype. Heard bands
long before hype caught up with them, loved them then, love them now. Who
cares if it isn't fasion, I go with what I feel not what I am told. Someone
should smack the media around the head till they get this idea.

At least the people that matter have put SG where they belong at number 1.

Hello kiddies... first and foremost I have to begin this post by pissing
everyone off. Metallica sucks. Ok, now that I've gotten THAT out of the
way, here's a bunch of SG stuff that was on the AOL MTV site. (You know I
love you guys.)
- -----------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile Soundgarden, which will be joining Metallica on this summer's
Lollapalooza tour, has debuted at number 2 on the "Billboard" chart with its
new album, "Down on the Upside", which the band produced itself at the
Seattle studio of Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard. The album features four
tracks that are first-time collaborations by singer Chris Cornell and bassist
Ben Shepherd, and here's Cornell on how they came together.

CHRIS CORNELL, Soundgarden: It seems pretty immediate now, but I'm not sure
it ever wasn't immediate. It seems pretty immediate now, though. Our band
wrote a lot of music for this record where it would seem like within a day or
two I'd have a whole lyrical, full blown arrangement idea and it just seemed
to happen really naturally and really quick, and it didn't take any laboring
over or worrying about arrangements or stuff. But Ben brings in... he
writes... like even if there are no lyrics on the songs they're like whole
songs.

- ---------------------------------------------------------------

The new July, all-music edition of "Details" magazine features a story on the
grim aftermath of the death of Blind Melon singer Shannon Hoon. According to
"Details", Hoon's family still hasn't put a headstone on his grave, and is
now considering conducting a DNA test on his infant daughter, Nico, to
determine if she's really his, and thus entitled to be his heir. The issue
also includes a memoir by Liv Tyler's mom, Bebe Buell on her rock and roll
love life, an elegy by Snoop Doggy Dogg on the passing of his favorite pit
bull, Shirley Manson of Garbage weighing in on the "10 Commandments Of Love",
and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell on his biking habit. The July "Details" will
be arriving on newsstands within the next week.

- -------------------------------------------

Chris' biking habit? What's up with that? Hmmm... Anyway, before I let
you people stop reading, there's one more MTV thingy that caught my eye.
They're doing casting calls for that stupid show/special/thing called Sex in
the 90's. The part that interested me was that they're asking people to
e-mail in their sexual fantasies about rock stars. If they like yours,
they're going to put you talking about it on the stupid show (incognito, of
course). Anyone interested? E-mail me, I'll give you the details. C'mon
people... do you seriously think that I could pass up the opportunity to talk
about Chris' sexy body? Not even. Just think... you people who watch MTV
could someday soon be hearing me describe Chris tongue-kissing Dave Navarro
(in full detail). Heheheh... Just a thought...

Kathie, I happen to agree with you regarding Chris' arbitrary
lyrics...I too think that they are personal to him to an extent, and
yes, he is probably trying to maintain his privacy to protect himself.
Can you blame him? You have to remember, how many of us would like our
lives analyzed to that degree? I do feel that alot of Chris' lyrics
come from his private and personal side, even though he might make
statements regarding them to be otherwise. Really there would be no
reason why he should have to explain them all out to us fans.
Interpreting his meanings and feelings when he wrote a particular song,
is for me, a fun part of listening to Soundgarden. We are free to
interpret them as we wish, and I think that Chris would want us to come
up with our own perspective of a song, stirring up feelings and
reactions of own while listening.

I was browsing around the web this morning and I found this place called the
Vinyl Vendors. I did a search for some Soundgarden stuff and they have some
really cool things. I found a 12" that has the songs:

        1. Rusty Cage (edit&lp)
        2. Girl U Want
        3. Show Me
        4. Into the Void

It was for $10. (Not including S&H). Is that a good price? Girl U want and
Into are on SOMMS right? Oh its also a White label promo whatever that
means. and it has a promo only picture sleeve. If anyone wants to check out
VV's list of SG stuff, go to:
http://db.otn.com/vinylvendors/VinylSearch.html and then do a search on
Soundgarden. They also had a vinyl LP of Ultramega OK for $50! I was pretty
surprised. I wonder what makes it so high priced. Oh well just go check it

That's because it's SST's *test pressing* of Ultramega OK. According
to Steve's discog:

"'There is a test pressing of Ultramega OK on black vinyl. It has a
plain white cover with an SST insert detailing the order of the tracks
and the name of the artist.' - Ryan Pfaff. Was seen twice at record
shows in 1991. Hasn't been uncovered since."

A true Soundgarden rarity, it seems.

The empty feeling Boot Camp leaves you with is reminicient

Hi,
I was just remembering that I think that on Primus' first album
"Suck On This",there is a track called 'Harold Of The Rocks', and
Les sings (something like),
                           "Harold rambles on and on,
He could talk the balls of a rhinosaurus".
I wonder if this is anything to do with the inspiration for
Rhinosaur, (totally different song but still).

Rage in Australia was pretty good, I taped a fair bit off it. The AIC
was cool, the Sepultura was cool (especially the Max impersonation).
I don't have dubbing facilities for the dude who wanted copies of the
stuff that was on though. (BTW did anyone catch AIC on Letterman a
few weeks ago? It was cool). I was hoping that Metallica would play a
bit of Soundgarden though, and they didn't which was disappointing.
Also it's frustrating that the proper Pretty Noose video hasn't been
screening, especially considering that there is no censorship on the
ABC (maybe it's something to do with the violence cut down after Port
Arthur).

Load is a real cool album I must say (sorry Seth)

I didn't catch that Pretty Noose thing on the State Of Origin
DefSonic, probably because rugby is boring (except the fights of
course)

Sommsters,
I second the emotion on the fact that Chris doesn't string random words
together. I write poems occasionally when the mood strikes me, and I have
them locked on my computer, my best friend saw one once and I kinda told
her the same thing, (sorry ava, since your probably reading this) It's
just really hard to let people look through you like a open window. So I
really respect Chris for being able to do that. Dotu really reminds me of
Loud Love for some reason, I think it's because 1) Both albums are just
straight forward rock, well as straight forward as sg can be, saying that
sg is straight forward rock is like saying that John Coltrane was your
every day average sax player. 2) Songs like Tighter and Tighter and
overfloater remind me of Loud Love and some of the basslines on the album
remind me of power trip. Another thing I remember a common comment that
dotu doesn't have a slaves and bulldozers. or a btw . fourth of July in
terms of a superpowerful sg song. I say to all those people just listen to
boot camp at around three in the morning when your the only one awake

So basically, since I have Fresh Deadly Rarities, I have all of those SOMMS
songs on that album, except Slaves and Bulldozers, which I have a 16:37 live
version of (with the cool PJ "Alive" rendition) on Somewhere - Live '92....

I guess I don't feel so badly now....

Thanks for the responses...

For those of you who must travel to the great nation of Texas to catch Lolla,
please stop in Dallas first, go to Deep Ellum, find Shroom in the gutter, and
check to see if she is still breathing.. : )

Then travel 3 hours south to Bryan Texas, sister city to College Station,
home of Texas A & M University were reportedly I spent 4 years obtaining my
first degree....(kinda hazy..)

Well I checked back with that website, and they have that in stock although
it didn't give me any numbers. Just thought I'd say that, if there are any
true colectors on the list.

The song is a previously unrealeased "live" version of My Wave,
a somewhat appropriate song for a Surfrider bene disc. It was
in the new issue of Surfer. A lot of other good bands will make
it worth picking up tho: Beastie Boys, a new 7 mary 3, a new Helmet,
PJ cover tune, shit some others i can't remember.

When I turned on the stereo one morning, I decided to listen to DoTU.
So PN starts playing, and the intro sounds kinda low, so I crank it a little.
I'm standing there, brushing my teeth, when all of a sudden a sonic BLAST hits
me as CC starts singing. Did anyone else pick up on this Big vol. increase
when they listened? Of all the times I heard PN on the radio, I never
noticed that.

I actually thought that this album was different in that chris
sang almost *all* of the vocal parts. on previous albums, matt and ben
would do some backups, and chris would sing the main vocal track, maybe
layering on some other minor stuff. but on dotu, it seems to me that he
sings just about everything, and that the rest of the band had very
little to do with the vocals at all. chris laylers his voice tracks so
that in many songs (overfloater and tighter come to mind) he is actually
singing harmony with himself - an entirely different approach to his
multiple vocals on fourth of july. in some songs (with the aid of
headphones), it sounds like there are a coupld of chris clones :) not to
mention that he showcases a few of his different vocal styles.

I remember someone saying earlier that there is no real screaming
on dotu, and that chris and the rest of the band had mellowed out. I
agree that the screaming is kept to a minimum, but it is still there;
especially on tracks like never the machine, tighter and blow up. I just
like the fact that he is showing off his ability to sing in different
ways. his singing on burden is *great*, and gives a real depth to the
song (if he screamed it in a jcp fashion it just would not be the same).
just some food for thought.

coolest quote for the week: ben shepherd on soundgarden's
relevance to grunge - 'bart simpson has more to do with it than we do. I
just say that we're a loud band'. perhaps sg should have been on the
homerpalooza episode?

In the NME article of May 18,1996 it says "when he (CC) was writing lyrics
for "Down on the Upside" he decided consciously to look back at his
childhood for the first time. He will point to the songs-"boot camp" and
"never named"- but is as tight lipped when it comes to explaining their
content as he is about any other song on the album." I
think some of the songs come from emotions or experiences that prehaps he
has had but I would like to think that Chris' life isn't as painful as some
of his lyrics suggest. Toni

Bryan is near College Station in Central Texas which is the home of Texas

Ahhhhh, the gutter. Such a wonderful place to be!! I'll be somewhere
in the vicinity of the 2700 block of Elm St. Try not to step on me, though,
please. ;)

>I think some of the songs come from emotions or experiences that

Hmmm... understand that this is not in any way, shape, or form to
belittle Chris or his lyrics... But I've known a couple of damned good poets
who've had relatively easy lives, and yet have written some the most
soul-wrenching poetry you'll ever read. You'd think that these people had
been to hell and back during their time... but getting run over by ruthless
old people wielding killer shopping carts in the supermarket is about the
extent of their problems. Some people are just talented writers. But
again... this is just a thought. I have no idea of what Chris' life is and
was like.

One last thing... have you people noticed that this "trendiness" thing
is getting just a tad bit out of hand? I was at a clothing store the other
day, and I saw these mass produced shirts that said "Trendy People Suck."
Hmmm... so if there's thirty million people running around in these shirts,
what does that make them? And during the last few years, anything mainstream
has started to be labeled as "trendy." People (LOTS of people) are trying to
be cool by claiming to hate "trendy" things. So it's officially cool to be
anti-trend, and everyone's in on it? Now wait... doesn't that make it TRENDY
to hate trendiness?? What the hell's going on here people?!? Ummm... I
think I'm just going to hide in my closet with my music until this whole
thing blows over. Oops... I mean hide in my gutter. Someone let me know
when Lolla gets here. I have to buy a "trendy" shirt before I go, so I can
be cool, too...
                              <kisskiss>
                                               Shroom
(Totally obsessed with Chris Cornell... loving it...
and not giving a flying rats ass if it's trendy, or not.)

"He's going to bungi jump from his penis!! Is that cool, or what?!?"
