Hey everyone...

I know others have mentioned this subject, but I was listening to the new
album last night, (as usual)

and after "boot camp's" dramatic and ubrupt ending, I just sat there and felt
this intense feeling of utter aloneness...

like I was the only person left in the world, after the music was gone....

That song is so great, but yes I wish it was longer. On the other hand, how
could you change a song which can invoke that kind
of emotional response? Isn't that what good art is about? Anyway, just some
thoughts foer the hell of it...

Last week, my uni. rock society (I'm president for next year!) held
a rock/indie night in the SU night club and when they played pn, I was
of couse bouncing all over the place (I'm well known for being the society
sg freak!) But my point is that many of the people who were around me were
extremely impressed with the song, esp. Chris' vocals which they felt
were amazing (as if we don't all know that) I think that pn was an
excellent choice for a first single because it showcases much of what sg
do best - chris' voice, the lilting, powerful riffs, etc.

Sorry everyone - I occasionally have this need to babble!

Sommsters,
Why are some of you calling Su a pop album? Seriously I know Bhs was a
huge hit, fobd and spoonman, got some radio play but they weren't huge
hits. I think that in the case of sg if you hear them on the radio twice
in one week, it's like it's being overplayed because where not used to
hearing it. The only reason su was popular was because of the success of
one song out of 15 bhs, plus the fan base they built up from bmf, remember
the album debuted at #1 thats the people who fell in love with bmf. I used
to watch MTV and listen to the radio all the time when bmf came out and I
never heard a single song from it. I heard bmf right before su came out
because a friend had it, if su was a supposed pop album, it would have
been rusty cage and outshined the album, since those were there most
successfull singles to date. Bhs is such a change from traditional sg at
the time that who in gods name(except god of course) would have known it
would have been popular. I think people are confusing music that people
see beauty in and just like, from catchy pop songs that were designed to
stay in your head and just grow on you like mold because you hear them so
much, and that you forget about in few weeks from great music. When I
first heard the foo-fighters big me, it just was so catchy I'm tapping my
foot to it, and when it was overplayed I would find myself watching the
video for it, despite the fact that I don't like the ffrs or the beattles
and that is the most beattle sounding song this side of atlantic ever
written. But hey know that it's not being played I really could care less,
however even when bhs was being played to death I wanted to hear it more
so I bought the album, and I still love that song. That is the differrence
between pop and good music. Pop is fed to you and you just swallow and
when it's no longer fed to you, you don't hunger for it. Good music never
leaves you satisfied and keeps you hungering for more. So lets stop
calling pop things that a large number of people like, it's only pop if
it's sole purpose is to sell records. Hey and another thing why the fuck
is that everytime a band writes a rock song with a melody it's copying the
beattles? Have these people ever heard of Jimi Hendrix? Songs like
"Angel", "The wind Cries Mary" , "Castles Made Of Sand" need I go on? Just
about any blues song, which the beattles were copying btw, the isley
brothers tunes, who the beattles toured with and covered there songs and
made money of them. There the greatest contrived pop band ever, John did
write some decent lyrics in the late seventies and they had that whole
psychadelic stage, but really they were just the Hootie of times past,
seriously songs like bunghole bill, yellow submarine, hold your hand,
Jesus Christ if Hootie is around for 10 more years my kids are going to
hearing that they were some of the greatest songwriters of all time.
Arrgh! Okay I'll shut up know.

P.S. If anyone wants to flame remember this "I pay no attention
because I'm hard headed so fuck you all"

AIC and SG are both managed by Silver Management, so yes, they're
pretty closely related, and the fan club material has been known to
overlap.

Yes I got the post card in the mail, but......someone in the postal system
took my neat little sticker. Could there be a fan of SG in the U.S. Postal
Service and if there is could "Mailman" be his favorite song???

There was a little blurb in the Chicago Sun-Times Friday about
Lollapalooza tickets going on sale and guess who's picture was there.
They had a good sized picture of Soundgarden. What I couldn't
understand is if Metallica is headlining, why did they use a picture
of Soundgarden? Is Soundgarden a bigger draw in this area or did they
just not have a picture of Metallica in their archives. Anyway, I
thought it was neat that our boys out ranked Metallica on this one.

The *original* IRC channel for Soundgarden fans -- and specifically,
members of this mailing list -- is #somms, which you can access on any
Undernet server. Let's use it. Attached is the official list of
Undernet servers that you can use (and more info is available at
http://www.undernet.org). For each server name listed, append
".undernet.org" onto it and that's the full name (for example,
"ann-arbor.mi.us" should really be "ann-arbor.mi.us.undernet.org").
Keep in mind that although this is the "official" list, there are more
unlisted servers that are just named by their locations (for example,
brisbane.qld.au.undernet.org and boston.ma.us.undernet.org both work,
but they're not on the official list).

Hope to see some of you on IRC soon.

If you already have BMF and SU, then it'll be pretty useless to you...
however, the Superunknown CD included in the box is the non-US release,
so it includes "She Likes Surprises" as track 16...
