Yes - the videos, in that order repeated 3 times - 18 videos.

Towards the end of the ` concept ' video there's a shot of a woman lying in
bed. The camera pans left and down to show Chris Cornell sitting at the foot
of the bed.
The video ends with a closeup shot of an eye with the SG logo fading in and
out of the black part of the eye.

yeah, not wrong the guy has no idea what he is talking about :)
grouchy...well I think we deserve to all be, I mean what does he want? The
world does fairly suck most of the time, sometimes it's easier to just be
grouchy :) I know I relate to Chris's lyrics more then I do to some happy
pop Oasis or [insert other happy no thought lyrical band here] type of
thing. Maybe it's not good to yell at the world in that way, but what the
hell, it doesn't listen to much we do anyway. [I am happy most of the time
too :) just don't like things that happen i the world]
I think truthful is a good description, you can see the truth in alot of
what Chris is saying, once you work out what he is depicting.

I don't know, I think it's easier to get into then some of Superunk. I know
it took only about 3 listens or so and I loved it. Most of the other SG
albums have taken longer to get into. Could be just me having heard SG for
so long now I just love whatever it is :) But as for bandwagon jumpers, I
think Blow Up will be the biggest jump of all, it's another BHS waiting to
happen. In some ways it is good, in most ways it is bad. We'll all see in a
few months I guess. As for ppl jumping on after Superunk, I think it will
depend if they like the earlier stuff, how much they'll like the new songs.
All we can do is sit and watch the radio overplay songs again, but maybe
just maybe it'll kick hootie off the radio, now that would be a good thing.

I was playing around today, and I just happened to play something like this:

- -------------------------------

- -------------------------------
- -------------------------------
- -------------------------------
- -------------------------------
b=3Dbend

I'm pretty sure this is part of a SG song, but I'm not sure which one, BTW,
it's in standard tuning(the way I played it sounds right that way).

If you know what this is, please tell me.

I got up this morning and downloaded somms with my usual anticipatory
pleasure.Its
a fascinating daily read, and I enjoy it,and the usually thoughtful and
energetic insights in it.There was apost from a new person, curious about
learning more
about SG earlier stuff, and showing some enthusiasm. Then,a few posts later there
is a really snide reply...making fun of "the newbie".How fucking lame.Isn't
the entire point of this site to learn more and enjoy the music of SG?I
know it has given me new insights and has had me going back and
re-listening to their music.
So here is a person who actually gets up the nerve and energy to make an
initial contact, and someone who THINKS THEY ARE BETTER treats them like
shit. Now the poor guy is going to feel like a dork and either a:never
inter-act again or b:get hostile themselves, which are both sad
situations.Everyone was a "newbie"
at something once...remember that. This new person should get an apology.

huh?! this individual has obviously never spent any time in the midwest,
where i had the misfortune of being raised. i live in seattle now, and it
is about the most laid back, accepting place i've been so far. but maybe
this person does speak from experience. racism exists most everywhere; just
toward different ethnic groups...

>btw it's really a big deal that Eddie Vedder went to rodmans bday party.

no it isn't. that's just the news media making a big deal of it. as soon
as most of the PJ fans on the net found out that PJ didn't play a set none
of them really gave a shit. :)

someone else wrote the other day:
>How do you think it's [DOTU] going to appeal to a non-Sg person?

how do you define "non-Sg person?" judging from the way a few people here
rip on anyone who hasn't listened to them since the beginning i would
probably fit the description if that is the prevailing attitude here. i've
known about SG since seeing the "Outshined" video right around the time
Badmotorfinger came out, and liked them, but didn't buy a SG album until i
picked up Superunknown in a used CD rack a few months after it came out. i
didn't give a rip about "black hole sun" (that song seems to be the SG
version of Pearl Jam's "Black" -- everybody and their mother is a SG fan
after hearing it eh?); i got it because i listened to my roommate's copy a
few times and "let me drown," "my wave," "spoonman," "superunknown" and "the
day i tried to live" sucked me in.

to answer the question (as a "non-Sg person"), i like DOTU. not as much as
superunknown (which is a helluva lot) but that may change soon. as with any
album i really love it will have to grow on me, as great albums have a
tendency to do. i'm the biggest fuckin' Pearl Jam fan in the world but it
took weeks before i was sucked in to each of their albums. same with
soundgarden so far. i picked up louder than love a while back and didn't
care for it but maybe it's time to give it another spin.

and regarding dave ferman's review of DOTU, mattlaw@cogs.susx.ac.uk
mentioned:
>There are a lot of points he made which were pretty fair, but it wasn't fair to
>criticise the lyrics just because they weren't in a style the reviewer
appreciated

and i agree completely with this assessment. i do think the guy missed the
boat but i have to say that most of the overreactions on this list were
every bit as funny as dave's "i don't get it" review. :) back in the good
old days when reviewers and rock mags were few and far between those words
may have meant something. but now?... the music journalism biz is flooded
with way more people than is really needed, which means to stand out a
person has to rip on a band in the most unique way their tiny mind can
conjure up.

really, who gives a shit what these people say. you know what you like.
buy it. go to the shows and give these people (the non-musicians) the
indifference they deserve already.

to the digesters: sorry for the long post, but at least i didn't quote an

i dont know if you know about this..but here is what i found at mtv's
website, a review of dotu under the sonic stew section at:
http://mtv.com/music/stew/ss01.html

With Nirvana gone and Pearl Jam holding out on us until later this
summer at the earliest, the burden falls to the final member of the
Seattle triumvirate to slake the grunge-thirsty masses. At this point, most
sane band's toes curl under at the slightest hint of being classified as
grunge, but Soundgarden was a reluctant member of the tribe even back
in the day. And rightfully so--beyond their fear of a flannel planet,
Soundgarden's music always went down more like molten metal than
bitter acid. Perhaps as a way to affirm their roots, Soundgarden opted to
produce this record themselves, and Down On The Upside noodles and
sludges and wails in ways more reminiscent of those Soundgarden is
frequently compared to, like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. And, like
the great works of those bands, this record is meant to be consumed
whole, not bit by delicious bit. We'd lay our bets on "Burden In My
Hand" or "Boot Camp" as the second single.

there is also a really cool morphing picture thing there if you guys want to
check it out. sorry for the long post

Subject: Re: Don't be a dick...

Don't be a dick is right. I think the "ripping" of the "newbie" in
question WAS totally unjustified. Unfortunately, it happens too often
on this list.

I hopped on board the Soundgarden bus (so to speak) back when
Badmotorfinger was released. I hadn't heard "Rusty Cage". I'd heard
"Outshined" and didn't care for it (which I still don't...). A
friend, however, had recommended the album to me, so I bought it.

Please, slap me on the wrists, someone. I was bad. I jumped on the
bandwagon.  Eeek.  {dripping with sarcasm}

Yes, I also became a certified HOOKED SG fan with the release of
Superunknown, simply because of the sheer power of the material on it.
I went looking for more material, found it, and I now own Louder Than
Love. I'd own more, but I'm poor. :)

NOW, my point (I did have one) is this: this newcomer is me, a few
years ago. I looked for more Soundgarden stuff, and I found it. This
is exactly what this guy was doing, before he was needlessly beaten to
a pulp by a rude, thoughtless post.

Yeah, there's a FAQ. But, like many others here, ON THE LIST, I
didn't read the damn thing until 2 months after joining SOMMS. So why
thrash someone for asking something? Wouldn't it take a hell of a lot
less energy to simply answer it? It would also take a lot more TACT.

I sincerely hope that the "newbie" posts again. I know that after
such an outburst, I might have been frightened away, but I wasn't, and
I've since become what I hope is a valued member of the list.

In the meantime, best wishes to all SOMMSers. Long live free speech
and human decency.

Take care everybody,
Glenn

if anyone's ever seen or read it.. it's this car that is restored (a hot

one of them over by itself... and it just keeps killing people, and
well, it's a hot rod.. hence the "hot rod death toll" connection.. oh

wow... I really like "Switch Opens"... great lyrics, love the imagery...
sounds like a song demo, with the way the band is kind of playing around
before the song kicks in...

my least fave is, and I'll probably take some heat for this, "Zero Chance".
I don't know. I don't really like the way Chris sings it, and the music is
sorta average. The occassional drumrolls are, to me, annoying...
I think Zero Chance is less-SG (if there is such a thing) than Switch
Opens...

I haven't seen that episode that ya'll are talkin about but just a

Didnt someone on this list say that that was something like Ross Perot

Yeah this video does exist and I have a copy. It was put out by polygram
as a promotional thingy.
However I was pretty pissed off cause the advertisment by the record
store in a local street mag said it was an "80 minute" video. So having
already bought the digipak on the day it was released I now have 2
copies of the LP and 3 copies of all the videos I already had on tape. So
much for thinking that in the 80 minutes I would get something great.

Sidenote: As far as digipaks go in terms of quality the Oz one is pretty
lame. Digipaks are supposed to be special, and this one is just
different, not special. No extra art or anything.

i do have an axe to grind....

the only album I can't listen to all the way through w/o skipping
songs is "superunknown" I usually start it with "fell on" (i.e. i skip
the first 2 songs) and i usually skip "spoonman".... i just don't like
those songs.

do you really think so? for me, those two solos are the most
opposite on the whole record (ie. the best and the least best). the
rhinosaur one, which still doesn't really grab me, is a big play-fast
break, without much (imho) kim's normal 'tonal-emotion' (I just made that
horrible phrase up. where do I pick up my music journalist's
certificate?).

as for tighter's solo, I can't think of a sg solo I like more. it
kicks my ass every time I hear it. kim puts *so* much emotion into it, I
can see his face contorting. *that* leadbreak comes from recording the
album yourself, and trying to have fun while doing it, because I can't
remember anything that good off bmf or superunk. also, kim, ben and matt
are so tight (pun possibly intended) that it makes me wonder how other
bands can even bother to get out of bed and record :)

btw seth, the lyrics for burden on our page are wrong. the line
is 'follow me into the desert'. I know its a typo, but after all, I am

jumping on the bus is just fine and dandy glenn. it's jumping on
and off that irks me (does anyone care?). its cool if you get into a band
relatively 'later' than other music lovers. I myself am just getting onto
the strains of tool and veruca salt. I only started listening to
soundgarden in 1992 when the bassist in our incredibly short-lived band
lent me badmotorfinger, and now I am absolutely hooked. and now you have
gone on to explore their earlier albums (I recently bought ultramega),
which is more than cool. it shows that you are taking an interest. and
thus the distinction is made between people who are genuinely interested
in buying albums and actually *hearing* music, and the people who watch
mtv religiously, buy all the latest hootie (hootchie?) and green day
singles and jump on every bandwagon in sight as soon as some dinky song
makes the charts.

hoping not to sound to gushy, but you are glenn. and to that guy
who got blasted for not knowing everything, my advice is to just go out
and buy the albums. you will not be let down.

I think that, although the reference is biblical, that the statement
itself is sexual. Eat the fruit - make love(or whatever sexual act you
want to insert, no pun intended)
and kiss the snake goodnight - literally, kiss the
tempter (is that a word) goodnight when you're done.
This whole song strikes me as being about a sexual temptation that is
seen as a mistake to follow through with. Well, that's what I think.

I jumped on the bandwagon after the Superunknown and so did most of
my mates. After buying SuperUnknown just because I liked Black Hole
Sun and constant listening to the album I began to like every song
on the album. Then I was at the markets after a few month of the
release of SuperUnknown in Australia and I bought some of the old
live sg CD's. They are great but poor quality. I bought DOTU last
monday (the first day it was released in Australia) and couldn't stop
playing it in my car, at home and at Uni. I thought it was shit hot,
however not as cool as the old stuff.
I think most people who jumped on the bandwagon after SuperUnknown
will enjoy DOTU.

I heard sg is coming to Australia in September, can anyone confirm
this??
