Just to add to this, I am from Minnesota as Geoff the onefellswoop
notes. Yes, it is cold and boring here. But I also specifically
remember in either a SG or PJ interview that they said that Seattle, as
well as most of Washington, hate California. They called people from
California "Californicator's", which I find extremely funny . . . I don't
know if this means anything to the song or not, but it's an interesting
side note.

Yes, in one hand lies the new Soundgarden CD DIGIPAK, in the other a Chris

sickeningly disappointing new Metallica single (I only got it for the

Life is indeed good.

I've just got the Hater album after 3 years of promising myself to do so - and
it's fucking excellent! You can definately see some SG stuff in there courtesy
of Ben, stuff similar to 'Half' and 'Head Down', and John McBain fucking rules.
Monster Magnet's 'Spine Of God' is one of the best LP's of all time IMHO and I
always wondered what happenned to him after he left.
'Blistered'. What a cover. Rockin' stuff...

We both made it. I don't think you told me who to look out for so didn't
know about the kickstand shirt etc. Oh well, another time. I think I
remember a dude in a kickstand shirt walking around :) I was the one in the
Sonic Youth shirt.
Jackhammer and me did meet up a least which was pretty cool, eventually
we'll run into everyone in brissy I guess.

BTW i got the digipack version, just seemed a cooler/different packaging the
the same old CD case. Yeah the digipack will probably get damaged quicker,
just means I have to take more care of it or something. It's cool packaging
I think :)

Yeah, the poor dude cooking up the top :) he cooked up a fair bit of food
for the small numbers, there was another one cooking at hmv I was told. As
for winning the prizes, no luck, we hung around utill the draw at about
12:45am or so, didn't win (the had 4 ppl drawn, trying to get someone that
hung around in the shop something to win, but it didn't happen) I don't
think a Justin got called out, and I can't remember Little Joe's name. So
maybe still in with a chance.

Yeah, artwork on the liner notes isn't that exciting, but oh well :) The
music is well and truly fine :) listened to it about 3 times I guess, didn't
like it that much, hmm it's ok, yeah not bad...then it hit like a sledge
hammer :) this is damn cool stuff :) Now I think its on perminent rotation.
Like everyone said I am singing along to Blow Up.... already!!!! How catchy
is this song!! Awesome stuff :)
Won't bore with further reviews cause I think we all agree this is one fine
album :)

Subject: SG on SNL

Okay, I know I'm probably the millionth person to comment on SG's SNL
appearance. It wasn't the best performance I've seen, but I get giddy
just thinking about it. I knew, along with PN, they would play Burden in
my Hand, or at least I prayed for them to play it. BIMH is not my
favorite off the album, but it does go down smoothly. I think they were a
bit intimidated by the fact the they were live on TV, being broadcasted
to zillions of people across the planet. And by the fact that the
notorious Jim Carrey was hosting. All in all I think they took it easy
and decided not to spend to much energy on it. I thought it was cool
that they were all on stage at the end of the show. It is tradition
that everyone be on stage at the end, but I have seen some bands or
performer not come on stage at the end. I didn't notice it while
watching the broadcast, but watching the video I noticed, Kim giving
Jim Carrey a big hug. 20 million dollars per movie and now a hug from
Kim, some guys have all the luck. All this aside, they were pretty good.

Now, how they looked is a totally different topic. I just have one thing
to say, "What's up with Chris' hair?" I realize it's thick, but did he
have to have it sticking up like that. My theory is, he was trying to
look as unattractive as possible. No mousse, no combing, just that "Fuck
it " look. Well, I hate to tell you, Chris. You FAILED. After awhile
me and my roommates started praying for camera close-ups. The hair just
made him look more fascinating. And one of my roommates, a fairly calm
and quiet young woman, kept talking about how good CC's strumming arm
looked. Chris wore black, no surprises there.

As for the SNL, it was the funniest I'd seen in years. I've heard rumors
that it may be the last show ever. The end of an era?

Can't to hear what the rest of you thought of the show.

Hey Shroom....

I have to comment on your statement about Ms Susan
Silver...and "how she probaly has a close eye on you" ...I myself
believe that Mrs."Cornell" is a very secure woman who does not really
have the time nor possess the personal insecurities to have have to
keep her eye on anyone commenting about wanting her hubby, Chris. I
also think that Chris is really secure with his choice in a wife, and
does not even look at other women....at least not in the way all us
crazed Chris Cornell lovers would hope he would. I'm sure Ms Silver has
heard it all before, ya know... how everyone wants her hubby. As far as
me jumping Chris,...I am not that crazed! lol. I don't have any desire
to attact Chris nor see him naked...Don't get me wrong...I think he is
a luscious GOD! But I'm alittle to mature to do anything execept shake
his hand, ask for an autograph, talk to him some.. or get a hug. Maybe
I am losing out..because I feel like that..but that's just me. I think
that Chris and and the rest of the band members would apprieciate and
respect me more for that belief.
As for my opinion regarding your comments about wanting Chris......I
have to say..."YOU GO GIRL!!!!!"

Hello everyone.I did subscribe to somms about 2 weeks ago and am having a
great time reading your posts every day.I have looked all over the web for
music sites, and we are all lucky to have seths page and this
sight/list whatever it's called.Most other one's suck.I don't have a
television, and have been missing out on the appearances you all have been
talking about...It seems that Cornells performance on SNL was weak, but they
where in a gross TV studio with a shitty soundsystem, and entirely out of
context.I imagine a singer draws a lot of energy from the situation, and
given such a lame one it would be hard to do a good job.The last time I saw
SG live was in Texas, back in 1991,and it was amazing. It's a shame they only
play huge arenas anymore, every one should have an opportunity for a more
intimate setting.Perhaps they'll do some smaller shows again someday. The
new album is amazing,I'm really into Rhinosaur, but my all-time favorite
song is still Mailman. However,a friend is sending me the somms cd,which I
havent heard, and I have great hopes for their cover of Into The Void.

As an aside, last night I caught Zeni Geva at their last show on the current
tour. They have a new drummer,a guy that drummed for Dazzling Killman, and it
was insane.I'll be deaf for days.
Frank Kozik

ps.After reading some of your topics I realize that the true way to riches
would be the manufacture of life-size Chris Cornell "Birthday-Suit" shower
curtains.I'll look into it.

Subject: Wolfboy...the schmuck

     SG intimidated by SNL? No.
     An inadequate sound system? No.
Uncomfy in an awkward TV atmosphere? Bullshit.

Chris just doesn't respect his own gift. He treats his
natural vocal ability like an afterthought and abuses it.
He knows damn well he should vocalize before a performance,
yet it was obvious he hadn't even hummed to himself before
SNL. And he was so apologetic and embarrassed a couple of
years ago when tour dates were canceled solely because his
voice caved (they opened with JCP on that tour - ouch!).
Nobody can enter screaming and expect their lungs to handle
it. Remember our discussion about whether SG suck live, and
remember I (& SG themselves) said they were 'an inconsistent
live band'. Well, it's Chris's fault. Do we need to call
Silver Mgmt. to ask Susan to drag him to the doctor by the
ear, so it can once again be slowly and carefully explained
to him in detail that he is being a very bad boy and
jeopardizing his career as a vocalist by shredding his cords
like we all witnessed on SNL. And I can't imagine the
cigarette he was puffing on during 120 Minutes helps any.
Wolfboy doesn't need a glass of water, he needs a swift kick
     in the ass.

As for the strained facial expressions - that's what Chris's
face looks like when he sings. It's always looked that way,
only he has been hidden behind the hair so long, most are
surprised when they actually get a look.

Hi! This was the first time in years that I actually watched SNL. Well,
seeing as I had to suffer through that whole show, it would've beem nice SG
sounded a little better. I (like most of you) thought that Chris sounded
nervous when he sang Pretty Noose, there were even notes at the begining
that sounded a tad off key. I'm glad he sounded so much better for Burden
In My Hand. But, ooh lordy, the hair???? It's kinda a "Hi I just got
out of bed" type of look don't you think? Oh well, we'll see what he does
to his hair for Lolla... I couldn't help but laugh at all the funky faces
Matt does when he's drumming, it's so cool.

Totally un-SNL related:

Okay, for those of you who don't know, Muchmusic is having this type of
love/sex type of weekend next week. On their homepage, they have a poll
for people to pick one of their top 4 or 5 choices of sexiest male/female
singer and male/female band. I went in to take a look, and for one of
their sexiest males, they had Chris Cornell. Of course, I'm voting for
him. Whoever wants to go and their vote (you can vote again and again...)
for Chris, just go to their webpage:

then click the Muchmusic logo, then you'll see a place that's sponsered by

Yah, Susan's probably like the most secure person in the WHOLE world.
Why? Because Chris isn't just a God... he's a freaking SAINT. Saint Chris,
heheheh. I'm sure the woman barely even bothers to acknowledge the rantings

You're not losing out on anything! If that's the way you think, then
more power to you!! Chris and company would definitely respect & appreciate
your sentiments much more than mine, 'cuz I'm the type of fan they DESPISE.
Heheheh... I can't help it, though. If I met Chris, his music would
probably be the LAST thing I'd be thinking about. I'd be too busy undressing
him with my eyes, and trying to touch him. Chris'd hate me!! Not only would
I offend him with my lustfulness, but I'm such a smart-ass I'd probably end

"Wolfboy's" hair... if he really is growing it back out... let me fall to my

Somebody, don't remember who, posted their Top-20 SG songs. I felt
obliged to do the same.

1. Into the Void
2. Hunted Down
3. Loud Love
4. Black Hole Sun
5. Flower
6. Jesus Christ Pose
7. Mind Riot
8. Like Suicide
9. Ugly Truth
10. Outshined
11. Stray Cate Blues
12. Burden in my Hand
13. Rusty Cage
14. Angel on Fire
15. Gun
16. Hands All Over
17. FOPP(dub)
18. Limo Wreck
19. Hand of God
20. Head Injury

Those are just kind of off the top of my head. While thinking of those, a
couple of the worst SG songs came to mind. Before you flame, "worst" is a
relative term. SG is far superior band to any other around; a bad SG song
is infinitely better than anything Green Day has or ever will put out.

No order:
Spoonman; Little Joe; I Awake... hmmmmm that's about all I can think of.
Flame away.

talking about his dad, and how he wrote the song "Rooster" about him. I
guess Jerry's in town to go fishing with him and his cousin Les (what a

talking about how his dad served 3 terms in Vietnam (36 months). I guess
he's still something of an army type person (or whatever you'd call him).
When they go fishing, Jerry Sr. is in charge. Jerry was joking about how

OK...first off, I'd like to agree in how Chris sucked in PN. I think none
of us will know what was it: no confidence in his voice, nervousness, or
just plain lack of warm-up.

Second off: I bought this magazine of Guitar and there's an interview
with Def Leppard(hey, I bought it, might as well read all it's got.)
Ok and check out these exerpts from the article:

Phil Collen: "There's great new stuff coming around, something from
another generation, and I think you've got to embrace it and try to
understand it. I like Soundgarden."

Vivian Campbell: "I don't have a sympathetic ear for a lot of thrashy
bands. I really like Soundgarden because of the quality of the
songwriting, Chris Cornell's voice, and the production.

Do any of you guys really think the guys said this?? Yes!! Even Def
Leppard(which I don't like.). It makes me think of the wide range of
listeners the SG must have...C-Y'all!

talking about the PN video (when Chris said that there wereno nooses on it),
Matt said how they couldn't put a world blowing for Blow up TOW OR HOW
THEY COULDN'T POSSIBLY MAKE IMAGES FOR BURDEN IN MY HAND. Matt started to
crack up but had to move on 'cause Chris and Kim didn't pay any attention
to his comment.

Soooooo, here's the reason why I suspect Matt is the same as the
one on Rockline: He laughed at the idea of putting images to Burden...
And the only thing that would make me laugh at that is KNOWING that
Cameron had a pretty nice interpretation of Burden...

I think a hair/pop band like def leppard would wish that they
could write quality music as well as soundgarden can. it's good that
they realise good music when they hear it, but it begs the question: if
you like songs like mailman and she likes surprises, how can you sing

I sometimes wonder how that demo version could actually be a demo
of fell on black days. it doesn't really bear much resemblance to what
ended up on superunk, the only similarity being most of the chorus, and
even that is different. a while back I read a couple of articles that
talked about fobd, and how it was more of a pop arrangement than anything
the band had previously recorded. I don't listen to much top 40 music
(unless we're talking pn at 24 with a bullet), but the demo version
sounds very unlike a pop song. does anyone think it is actually just a
different version, something they were just fooling around with? maybe
something they actually recorded *after* the superunk sessions?

I have read to many shitty reviews of DOTU, and its pissing me off.
Its so blatantly obvious that the reviewers are only listening to the
album once and judging it from there. It takes a few listens before
one can even begin to understand where the band is coming from on each
album. Soundgarden are not "one-hit wonders" like much of the crap on
the market today... they are not a shallow band - SG has depth to
their music. Every time I listen to a Soundgarden album I notice
things that I have never noticed before that make me respect and enjoy
the music even more. There is just so many different sounds and ideas
coming across in their music that even if you listened to an album 100
times you'd still find new things to catch your attention. Basically
I'm just sick of reviewers that listen to SG and expect to be
impressed and awed the first time they hear a new SG tune, thats not
what SG's music is all about.

well check this out in the beggining of the song the close captioning says

sure this is what the lyrics on the record says even though im not 100%

also noticed some funny comments while on close captioning ("electric guitar

As you all know, my fav is Ben.

I don't have sexual feelings for him (I'm Hetro) but I have to
say this: I knew it all along!!! Ben is being the hailed as the real
innovator for this album, and rightfully so!

Look at this list:

Face Pollution, Somewhere, Head Down, Half, etc . . .

These are the tracks that really pushed the limits on the previous
albums. It's really easy to see that Ben has become an important part of
the creative process. (BTW, does anyone have a demo version of Half?)
It's weird but Soundgarden ussually has an innovative bassist (can't
include everman). "I Awake" is my fav LOL track and Truly rocks.

Chris may have the killer vocals, Kim: the killer licks, Matt: great
rhythm . . . but Ben writes the music that pushs the band. Flame Away!

This all makes me want to restart the work I was doing on my Ben homepage!!!

					always random,

Ben thought to put "Stray Cat Blues" on Somms and thank god he kept the
band from doing a song for Kiss MY Ass (KiSS Sucks, they're 4 Human
Gimmicks [ie. Bobcat Goldthwait] that ButtRockers enjoy like ACDC).

good call. ben has, in my mind, made soundgarden a better band.
not to say that their rise wasn't affected by kim, chris and matt's
musical development, but it seems to me that their music after louder than
love made a big leap into something that was very different to what they
had previously played, probably for the most part because of ben's input
and influence. not to knock hiro, because he was certainly cool, but I
think ben outclasses hiro in most respects.

can any bass players (or guitar players for that matter) say who
out of hiro and ben is actually *better* on bass? are there any list
members who prefer the hiro-era soundgarden to the ben-era soundgarden?
as much as I don't like half, I'd rather listen to head down or dusty
than most of the stuff hiro wrote for ultramega or ltl.

Subject: Soundgarden fans (def leppard)

So people are wonderinfg what other bands are fans of Soundgarden...

FIRST: Soundgarden is a mucisians band. Other good bands like them
(i.e. Metallica, AiC, King's X, Ramones, Monster Magnet and Paw).
They combine great mucisianship with awesome lyrics and a creative
intensity that is rivaled by few (see Monster Magnet). People admire
Soundgarden for their music and they way they "made it". They started
out in the shit-holes, building a small local following, and staying
in control of the directions they were taking.

SECOND: Soundgarden will never be a "music reviewers" band. <insert
Chris Mackenzie post eh? *"Strange Brew* movie reference> There is too
much depth and meaning to Cornell's lyrics to understand everything in
a week's time and write a review. The music is too intricate to pick
out everything in one or two listens. And people who write about bands
are too often listening to crappy music in the background when they
write it <insert Hootie and the Fishblow song... anything, they all
sound the same, or Green Day, or Alanis>.

THIRD: With all of today's technology's, more people are tuned in to
TV and pop culture media. So, when eMpTyV, SPIN <this is NOT an
alternative mag people>, and Rolling Stone say bow to bands mentioned
in previous paragraph, the people do, because most people are so
gullable and basically stupid. If you told them Darius Rucker (of
Fishblow fame) was gay, they would burn his CD's, but they liked him
before?

FOURTH: ok.. you people lookin for some more good bands--->Monster
Magnet, Paw, Hum, Pop Will Eat Itself, Melvins, Supersuckers.. well.
just ask anyone on the list. Most have good tastes. Check in with
Stephen at Buffalo... he's a phreaky dood... i don't know if Perlman
still listens to butt-rock or not ;)

ok, i'm done for now

I don't know about buttrock, but he has been raving about some

where they use different instrumentation to your regular guitars and drums

WARNING: PERSONAL REBUTTAL FOLLOWS...

Heheheh... just kidding!! You know I love you, Seth. Why haven't you
posted your picture to the page yet? You promised us it FOREVER ago!!
 Ooops... off track, sorry... ;)

So what are you trying to say here? Chris' sexy body does nothing for
you? Heheheh... Ok, I 'spose that multiple posts in one day about his sexy
body is too much for some of you? I guess I can deal with that. It's just
that when someone gets me started, I can't help but run with the topic,
y'know? And that shower curtain thing... mmmm... I'll shut up now. ;)

>There are only so many times I want to listen to you
>solicit opinions about "Chris' sexy body" and I think that number of

    Yah, it's an oldie BUT it's a goodie!! I can't help myself Seth!! I
plead voluntary insanity, 'kay?? ATTENTION PEOPLE: FROM NOW ON WHEN I
"SOLICIT" OPINIONS ON CHRIS' SEXY BODY... E-MAIL 'EM TO ME PERSONALLY!!!
Heheheh... is that better? I can imagine all the Shroom hate mail that was
flying across the phone lines today!! Heheheh... ain't life grand??!!?

>You claim to have received tons of mail from people who feel the same
>way you do, so I don't see why it needs to be repeated on the list day
>after day after day.

Ummm... I'm trolling for other Chris lovers!! Every single day we get
new people on the list, and I want to talk to 'em all!! Besides Seth... "day
after day after day"... that's a SLIGHT exaggeration. I don't post
everyday!! ;) But when I do post, I like to make 'em count. And
honestly... do you people REALLY care about my top twenty SG song list? And
do you REALLY want to read my opinion on the new album (which is absolutely
amazing). I can't say anything really different than what everyone else is
saying (and I certainly couldn't say it as well as most of 'em).
Besides... I don't like to suck the soul out of my music all the time by
over-analyzing it. I'm more on the list for the comic relief. Of course,
quite a few of you don't share my humor... so apologies for the MANY posts I
did today. I usually don't post more than once a day, and I don't do it
EVERY day. Heheheh... I just had a really good day!! I'm.... ummmm...
sharing!!

>You've made your point, we all know you love

Move on to WHAT? You mean there's more? Heheheh... Just kidding!! But
like I said... I get off to the information and comedy... not to the serious
stuff (like you weren't already aware of that). Can't stop my CC sexy body
posts!! A million apologies and stuff!! ;)

>AND NOW, THE LISTADMIN SPEAKS...

I know... and I love ya for it, Sethmeister!! You've created THE
coolest list and page on the 'net (HA! Another newsflash... damn, I'm
smooth!!). I love this list!! (Brown-nosing never hurts, right?) ;)

>But you know how I feel personally.

I'm fully, totally, 100% aware... and I try REALLY hard to control
myself 'cuz of it!! Heheheh... it's weird, but alot of the time I forget
that you're younger than me!! It's like I'm on a playground that's being
monitored by adults, but this is cyberspace (which could also be known as the
Twilight Zone)... so everything's straaaaaange, y'know? Backwards. Maybe
I'm just regressing, INSTEAD of getting mature. Isn't that great?!?

Northcut >-Shroom, you're REALLY sick!!

Now THERE'S a real newsflash!!! Maybe that explains my dog skull
collection? Ummm... never mind.

Anyway... to recap: I'm SORRY I posted so many times today, and if you
people want to talk Chris' sexy body with me... e-mail me personally, so as
not to offend the serious people!!!

My understanding is that Chris presented it to the band a long time ago,
and the band didn't like it, so they didn't really do anything with it.
That doesn't really explain why the recording exists, except that it is a
demo. I think they are both great songs.

Yes, this is pretty fucking ridiculous. But my feeling is that it is
not a band decision -- perhaps not even a decision the band knows
about -- but a decision on the part of the management or the record
label to preserve their interests. What I don't understand is what
interests they need to protect that necessitates aiming corporate
lawyers at a company that has managed to make itself into quite a
success story by using the Web, presumably by offering a ton of
records online, not because its name is The Sound Garden.

The main problem is that corporate lawyers do not know thing one about
Internet law (the Internet being a lawless medium, for the most part),
and that as the forwarded press release pointed out, Internic assigns
domain names on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are actually
people who have made quite a bit of money by registering domain names
like www.mcdonalds.com and then asking the company to purchase the
domain name from them for huge sums of money. And guess what? There's
no law that governs such matters.

So I would guess that the outcome of this will be nothing but negative
publicity on the band, something they really don't need right now, and
the domain name situation remaining exactly the way it is.

I'm trying to get more information about the situation ASAP.

YES! I knew it reminded me of Zeppelin and now that you mention
Gallows Pole, thats it! Good call.

As I sit here waiting for tomorrow to come so I can finally get
Dotu, I've been thinking alot about this list and I just have to do
some gushing. Seth is always thanking us for helping to make things a
success, but I want to thank Seth and everyone on this list for making
this period of anticipation an exhilerating experience for me. If it
wasn't for this list I'd be waiting in that weird void that I know
most if not all of you have experienced where you feel like you're the
only one who really knows who Soundgarden is, much less cares about
what they do. But with the list I've been able to share it with all of
you and I don't feel alone anymore in this passion for SG. It is so
cool to know you're all out there and are as excited about this album
and everything Soundgarden as I am.

I think we're being a little hard on Chris regarding his performance
of Pretty Noose on SNL. Granted it sounded bad, but who knows why?
Maybe he just wasn't warmed up (I know every band I've ever seen in
concert takes a while to get warmed up and really sound good). SNL
also seemed like a strange setting to me, after having seen them live
several times. It seemed like the lights hurt Chris' eyes or something
and he did seem nervous. Geez, imagine how he must feel! I swear, I've
seen them live 5 times and I've never seen them give a bad
performance, but sometimes it takes a few songs to really get warmed
up. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now.

8 1/2 more hours before I can get my sweaty little hands on that CD.
Is anyone going to check out the live chat?

Caryn, what does this mean. I know nothing about this kind of thing,
so can you tell me what you know?
