Tower came through, amazingly, and was selling the vinyl
at midnight on Monday. I was at the front of a small line
(maybe 7 or 8 people). They had 30 copies of the lp, which
makes me wonder about published reports of DotU being limited
to just 1500 or 2000 copies. There are 5 Tower stores within
an hour's drive, not to mention the numerous other chains and
independents _just in this area_. A&M wouldn't exaggerate,
would they?:)

I GOT IT! woooOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooo

we didn't leave for tower until 11:15 -- ya know, *every* time i have
gone for a monday night midnight thingy, there have been like 8 people
in the store. but tonight we pull up and have to fight for a parking
place and the line is wrapped around the building.

they were doing a posies in-store too, but i didn't think it'd bring
out that many fans! we kept asking if there wasn't a separate line
for the SG people, but they kept insisting that there was only one
register and one line.

they also had to keep announcing that the cd wasn't out tonight, only
the vinyl.

at around 12 the line started moving forward s-l-o-w-l-y. *yawn* and
then 10 minutes later, mr. tower records walky-talky guy walks down
the line going "is anyone here NOT buying the posies?" and my hand
flies up, he asks me again, and takes about 8 of us straight inside
the store!

anyway. i got *two* copies, so if there is ANYONE who gets shutout or
can't find it, please email me privately and it's yours. sg fairy at
your service. btw, i can't believe it's only 1500 -- perhaps its 1500
for canada only, or maybe 15,000? 1500 seems mighty tiny... ?

also -- i have *TWO* side three labels! anyone else have this problem
or do i have a collectible?

really glad she currently has no neighbors above or next to her,

People at Tower in Bellevue WA said it was 10,000...

they had 90 copies, well it is 3 miles from Seattle.

Well how do you like that, JJJ has a DOTU album play and an interview with
the band and don't tell anyone!!! :)

At least I got the tape reocording :) And finally hearing some of the new
songs woooo :) It's soundgarden but I agree with who ever it was that said
'there's no noise' yeah seems a bit less the say LL, or BMF, but it still
sounds very cool :)

And best bit of the interview is when (someone can't say who) said Fuck, And
the band was like, hey, you can't say fuck on radio. Then the ppl asking the
questions (yeah SG fans from down here) Said 'It's australia, of course you
can' then it was 'Well fuck, J fucking J, motherfucking J radio fucking
rules :)
ahh damn funny stuff :) The band is a classic gotta love their sence of humor :)

New songs sound awesome, might check out the vinyl tomorrow :)

I heard the Premiere of DOTU on KROQ in LA last night and all I have to
say before I run out and buy the album on vinyl is, "FUCK YOU ROB
O'CONNOR". If you aren't sure who he is, read the May 30th edition of
ROLLING STONE ragazine, Rob Boy reviewed DOTU.

I'm not sure if we all heard the same broadcast of the Premiere but the
one thing I remember, at the moment, is that Chris was asked how he got his
voice to sound sooooooo cooool. Chris said, " I really don't know, I
don't think about it... I mean I don't gargle with razor blades or
anything...I just sing and not worry about it."

Oh, Chris!!! Talented, no drugs and he doesn't even gargle with razor
blades, he truly is the man of my dreams.

I'm off to Tower records just in case there is the slimmest chance that

against the odds that there would still be DOTU vinyls left. I got there,
and to my suprise, they actually had several left, and they didn't look
like they were going to disappear anytime soon. I mean, as soon as you
went up the escaltor, there they were in plain view. Hundreds of people
had been walking by all day, right past them, and there were still some
left!
Like I said, there were several left, so if any of you who are out in the
boondocks want a copy but can't get one, send me an email, and I'll
probably be able to get you one. Oh yeah, mine was $8.

bought one for myself.A friend who works at another record/music store
ordered 3 copies too.1 for himself and 2 more for me.So,if his order doesn't
get filled I'll still have one copy.
I'll use one to play and the 2nd. one will be left wrapped, the 3rd. one is
for trading
or selling.Wo,I am so excited.
My brain is mush right now.I just left a windows95 training class. This
mourning,I could barely, pay attention,I was so anxious to leave and get the
new record.
First,I went to Where house records, only to find out that they ordered only
1 copy and some one had already picked it up.But I did get some free
postcard with the Dotu picture
on the front and the back has some writing on it. It says "out may 21,Hear

My friend at Marshall Music also ordered me The import single Pretty noose.I
told him
to make certain to get the 4 track version with the interview.
I taped the radio broadcast of DOTU last night and it came out great. But I
don't think
all the songs from the album were played.

                               The Pumpkin Press

Last Updated: 5/13/96

If you were tuned into the live broadcast from Dublin, Ireland at iMusic, or
if you were there, you
probably already know about the tragedy that occured at that concert. If
not, here's some information
graciously submitted by SP fan Mark Greene:

I don't know if this is big news in the states but it's headline stuff
here in Ireland. There seem to be 10
versions of what happened in the papers and i'm sure mtv might
exaggerate it i thought u guys might
appreciate a first hand account of what happened.

The gig started off well enough with Filter playing their popular set.
The first suspicion we had of trouble
was just before the pumpkins appeared on stage.I was close enough to
the front, heat was unbearable but u
expect that, but it was far too packed and people were getting a little
nervous.

The first song was 'where boys fear to tread' which went down well, but
already first signs of serious crushing
were evident, with multiple nosebleeds etc... .however the real damage
everybody agreed occured during
the 2nd song, zero. It was unbeleivable, huge crowd surges and lots of
falls, and i don't mean just a few
people,a mean large sections of the crowd,it was during this a 17 yr
girl was critically injured.

After zero the concert came to a halt for about 10 mins with Billy
pleading with the crowd to stay back and let
the injured out. They promised to 'play forever' and 'until your ears
bleed' if the crowd would just calm down
and not mosh. You could here Billy saying something along the lines of
'mellow out' to the band, and they
played 'to forgive'.Normality seemed to be returning but a few songs
later Billy issued another warning that if
moshing and crowd surfing didn't stop altogether that the concert would
be over.

They played cherub rock, but after it,it was obvious that they had
received news of how badly that girl had
been injured and they just walked off.a few minutes later they emerged
instrument-less.Billy said that it was
over, and that he would personally sit there and wave goodbye to
everyone until the place was empty.D'arcy
was particularly upset,"Do You know that there is a girl back there
who...... " she didn't have to finish her
sentence we knew what she meant, the place cleared out quietly.

It's just been announced on the news that that girl died,as james said
"It's just a rock concert,not worth
     dying for..... "

The concert was held at 'The point' in Dublin, aprox 8500 there. There
were a few reasons for this
     tragedy.....

(1)There must have been loads of forged tickets..... it was just too
packed,it was crazy...

(2)There was no age limit,i mean,i saw kids there who must have been 10/11.

(3)However one of the worst things was the presence of metal partitions
in and amongst the crowd.....
Why couldn't they have had protective padding around the metal?????
They are a good IDEA because
they stop the tidal wave effect of a large crowd,BUT the only way the
effect is stopped is by someone
     crushing up against them...

(4)I've heard the pumpkins mention this......
When a band gets big, they attract undesirables......
Last night there were loads of 'concert-heads' who turn up for the mere
fact that it was a concert, and the
opportunity to stamp on some heads and break bones 'legally'....
The ticket system that SP have introduced in america may be annoying to
some people,but it prevents the
     psychos from attending....
we need a system like that here....

We all know the pumpkins will never play Ireland again.....
It's such a tragedy, they themselves said that the 2 Dublin shows they
played last year(I was at one, there
were only about 1000 people at it, pure fans.)were among their best....

     Mark Greene
     Dublin City University
     soma@nurse.redbrick.dcu.ie
     c1mgreen@compapp.dcu.ie

Needless to say, this is an incredible tragedy, not just because someone
died at a rock concert, but
especially because it could have been prevented with proper security
measures and by holding venues
responsible for injuries caused by the immaturity of the fans. Because of
this, we at The Smashing
Pumpkins Web Site are going to launch a net campaign to bring a halt to
"moshing" and "slam-dancing"
in all its forms. Watch this site for future details.

I used to be a list member last year for a while, but unsubscribed a few
months back. I just wanted to share my happiness with all of you -- I'm
listening to Down on the Upside RUGHT NOW -- it's spinning happily on my

Anyway, I didn't get to record the release/interview/Rockline special last
night, but I'm sure many of y'all did, so I was wondering if any of you
would have pity on a former list member and send me a tape of the show? We
could do a tape trade -- I have over 100 Soundgarden songs in my
collection, including some bootleg stuff and lots of songs only released on
vinyl.

I'm not a member of the mailing list anymore so e-mail any responses to

WOW! I'm listening to Ty Cobb -- amazing! Our old, loud, raw, intense
Soundgarden is back!

Before I end this message, I have to say "HI SETH!!" and again, Seth,
you're doing a perfectly thorough and incredible job of maintaining the

Wasn't well publicised, was it? You think a major event like this would get

Me too!!! I'd transcribe the interview for everyone to read, but have no
time at the moment...sorry guys! My favourite out of the ones I heard was
Never the Machine - absolutely brilliant at stuffing any attempt you have at
toe-tapping and head banging by completely obliterating any sense of rhythm...

last night while listening to LTL and reading the lyrics sheet it struck me
finally where i had heard something similar to 'full on kevin's mom' before.
last summer on gordon elliot (talk show) i recall two friends and his mom
being on the show because the best friend had slept with the kid's mom and
'now things have changed.' could this just have been an ingenous plot by two
soundgarden fans to get on national television and live out their favorite
band's song and get free hotel stay??? the mind boggles. btw, does anyone
actually know if there is a 'kevin' or if the song is just a fictional story?

It's funny to talk to people who haven't heard the brodcast. I tell them
things like Chris is quiting soundgarden to become the next scatman, and they
believe it. I tell them that the next time you see the band, ask them to
autograph your butt 'cause they like that, and they believe it.

Did your radio station ever mention anything about winning a trip to Seattle
for the radio brodcast, 'cause someone told me that you could win it through
some radio stations.

Subject: different radio thing

I didn't listen to the Rockline thing but I listened to an
alternate local radio interview with the band where they also played a
lot of the new album. When asked if Kim really made Billy Corgan cry,
they said that he made him call his therapist all night. They were
making fun of Billy Corgan a lot. When asked which of their earlier
stuff they liked best, if any, someone said Gish and then someone else
replied in a high voice "Don't say that, it'll make me cry" and it was
funny. You'll just have to trust me. It may not seem funny now, but it
was. They were also "Dissin" Perry Farrel with a capital D. When asked
about how they felt when they heard that Perry Farrel was leaving
lollapalooza because it was so mainstream, they said HE was mainstream
and that he was capitalizing on other bands. They also mentioned how
it was nice to sell millions of records and not be considered really
"mainstream" by most people. AND (there's more!) they challenged
listeners to come up with another song that uses the word "firivorous"
(sp?) which is in Never the Machine Forever. Before that was an hour
where they played a bunch of rarities, including Come Together, Fresh
Deadly Roses, and Exit Stonehenge (really cool). Some interesting
facts: No Attention was going to be on Badmotorfinger, but it didn't
sound right, then it was going to be on Superunknown, but it still
didn't have that "live" sound. Tighter and Tighter was also going to
be on Superunknown, and they play a dobro on Burden in My Hand (I
think it is). My favorite songs on DOTU (slang!) so far, Dusty, Never
the Machine Forever and Rhinosaur (although I don't like the solo).

fisto!

Well children... I went to that lame SG listening party last night. I
think I was the only real SG fan there. Everyone else (all preppies) showed
up for the free drinks, and talked through the CD, and videos. The music was
heavenly, the Rockline thing was groovy, and I got toasted. I'm sure they
showed the PN video, but I don't remember it at all. I DID see the video for
"Flower", though. It had some good footage of the band at the beginning and
end of it, but the "live" footage kinda sucked. There was one shot of Chris'
face in profile that just about drove me crazy. He is BEYOND yumminess.
 <purrrrr>
Anyway... I took like thirty million posters and cards. Oh, and they
gave us those little CD insert/book thingys that have the lyrics in 'em. So
now all I need is the freaking jewel box and the CD!! I'm about to go and
pick up the vinyl, and Request magazine.
I STILL haven't seen Pretty Noose!! Damn me straight to hell. But I'm
going to make another trip to my bud Shane's place in hopes of seeing the
thing. Ummm... what else? I'm finally caught up with my e-mail, I THINK.
If anyone has written me, and not received a response by now... write me a
quick note and tell me what an inconsiderate beotch I am, and I'll get right
back to ya.

So, was anyone else there at the broadcast? I was. It rocked!!!
Prior to the broadcast, we had a listening party. The album is SO good! Also,
we got these lyric booklets.
We got to have a "meet and greet" session after the Australian broadcast and
it was extremely awesome!
In case anyone thinks that it was at Bad Animals, it wasn't.
Well, if anyone wants more details, let me know!!!

By the way, Matt looks real good in person. Real good. He's nice too!

OK, it is still conceivable that there are 1500 copies... They
probably just sold them all at once... my copy is on black vinyl, if
there is another color out there then that probably means that there
is 1500 of that color. Whoever said they had 3 side three labels...
you do have a misprint. The album is fucking awesome :)

NO>	Ok...Of those of you that have only listened to the Rockline thing.
NO>Which one was your favorite song??? Mine was Never the Machine forever.
NO>Dude, that song made me say: "Pretty Noose who???"
NO>Well, that's all, C-y'all in the Superunknown!! =-)

My favorite last night had to be Blow Up the Outside World. But, I
just got the vinyl, and I listened to the first record. I heard
everything up to Never Named, except Ty Cobb, just because I wanted my
mother to hear Blow Up the Outside World, and then my dad came home,
and the only record player in the house is in the same room that my
dad's favorite TV is, so I had to leave because my dad is big and scary
and tells me what to do and if I don't do it, it hurts. He brought me
into this world, and he can take me out, and it doesn't matter to him,
because he can make another one look just like me. So I figured I'd
record it on tape tomorrow and not argue. I REALLY wanna hear Ty Cobb,
though. That's only becase I skipped it. So anyway, my favorite song
would have to be Zero Chance, although I like Pretty Noose more and
more every time I listen to it. And I like the guitar in Rhinosaur,
but it should be harder...I mean, it shouldn't be as clean as it is.
And I haven't heard any Chris wails. Louder Than Love had a lot of
those, and the other albums have had enough, but this one just doesn't
have any, so far, anyway. There better be at least one, or I'll be
pissed. I'll have to...ummm....listen to it more. Yeah, that's it.
And I must not notice solos too much, because I've heard Rhinosaur a
lot, and I haven't heard that solo yet. Isn't that the one that was
critisized because it was too butt rock? Oh well.

Guess what guys, today is May 14th! That means today the new
Soundgarden LP comes out, and today I got it! After calling most of
the record stores in my area, I finally found one that had two copies
left. As fast as I could, I was over there and was buying both of
them. The new album is awesome! It might be their best one yet.
While I was there, I was also luckey enough to be able to pick up a
copie on the Pretty Noose box single with the poster. That is really
neat, too. However, I had a couple questions.

1) On the single, it says Limited Edition. I was wondering how
limited?

2) I know that you all have been talking about how both singles say
number 2 out of a 2 cd set. Then sombody came up with a number one,
but there is still two numder 2's. Does that mean that there are two
number ones?

3) And finally, is the vinyl really limited to 1500 copies, or did I
read it wrong?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

thanks,

I finally saw the entire Pretty Noose video today on MuchMusic; it's the
current buzzclip, which means HEAVY ROTATION!! The video is amazing!!
The colours and shapes and the way they flow and shift is incredible.
I am promptly going to email Mr Kozik and tell him to go with the video
thing. The video is unedited. I don't see why it is edited. The
"murder" scene" has the chick lying on the bed, under the covers. You
can hardly tell she is there unless you look. MTV is completely
backwards. I'm listening to the US radio show right now. They just played
the Canadian one. I will make some audio files for Seth to post as soon
as possible. Terry David Mulligan is also interviewing Chris and Kim on
the next MuchWest. (3:30pm Sunday) I saw part of it on FAX on monday. I
will make clips of that interview also. Also, I'm not sure how many
people know, but you can order the Vinyl version of DOTU from CDNOW. I
have a copy ordered from there, and the local Musiplex called me tonight
to tell me they have a copy on hold for me for tomorrow! So far
everything I've heard from DOTU sounds really good. I can't wait to play
it LOUD. That's all for now. Everybody go out and blow up the outside
world.
