I don't know how many listers there are from Indiana, but the tickets for
the Indianapolis Lollapalooza go on sale today (May 8th) at 10 a.m.
To order online, go to http://www.ticketmaster.com/spotl/lolla/
I assume there's no rush since lolla probably won't sell out on the first
day, but I thought I'd send this anyway.
I wonder when the other tix will go on sale.

It's an organisation that supports the reform of Marijuana laws, in other
words, the legalisation of it. I'm not quite sure what the acronym stands

I saw Soundgarden open for Neil Young a few years ago in Jones Beach, NY,
when he was backed by Booker T. & the MGs. They were selling black hats
with the S-logo in purple on the front and "SOUNDGARDEN" written across the
back. $20 later, one was mine.

Anyway, with regards to an email that was sent from a person on this list
(sorry, I don't know the name of the sender, I have already deleted that
email) -- this person had mentioned that she received the double CD boxed
Soundgarden album for her birthday that included both Badmotorfinger and
Loud Love. I myself own the copy of the double cd which includes
BadMotorfinger & Superunknown. I have never seen this double cd (BMF & LL),
is this a mis type( perhaps you got the two albums wrong??) or does this
double cd really exists???? Does anybody out there know??!! If so, PLEASE
let me know!!  Thanks,

Whoa, whoa, whoa, nobody's changed any dates. The vinyl is officially
coming out on May 14, just as it has been scheduled for months. When
the vinyl is released, that means the album has been released. Simple

Laws.

I have an idea for a new thread while we wait for the new album. What
Soundgarden songs tell the story of your life? Mine are:
*Stray Cat Blues (teens and early 20's. I know they didn't write it,
but Chris sings it so great and it fits perfectly)
*Hunted Down (Drug induced paranoia, but some actual hairy stuff too)
*Rusty Cage (deciding to break out of the rut and make some changes)
*SuperUnknown (Having and raising kids - most days feel like this)
Maybe the new album will have some songs to add ( I haven't looked at
the lyrics for it yet).

Sommsters,
I have yet to see the PN video :( but I am still eagerly anticipating the
new album. I don't any of us has to worry about sg getting overplayed this
time and getting all commercial and cheesy. If they were headed in that
direction none of us would be calling cd stores and asking for the new
single and getting "Single I haven't heard of any stinking Single". I
haven't even seen any promo posters for it yet. I saw promo posters for
AIC new album for about 3 weeks before it came out. I have been watching
MTV vigilantly for the last 3 days and to no avail. I have seen the damned
(insert unmentionable band name here, something to do with water
breathing creatures) video 8 times. It's like the kiss of death, I have to
avert my eyes and change the channel when it comes one. Hmm... oh yeah I
know this is a little bit late, but the song mailman is indeed about a
psycho killer. Evidence backing up my claim, early on the superunknown
tour in the seattle area, Chris dedicates the song to a recently executed
insane mailman he said quote "I'm sorry they killed you chris" later on
the tour at a concert in texas Chris said "this song is about killing your
fucking boss" But you know what it doesn't really matter, when I hear what
a sg song is about after I have already heard it and it already means
something to me. The song just gains an alternate meaning, mailman to me
will always mean the girlfriend I had last year second semester of my
freshman year. But I Just know that to chris it is about a psycho mailman.
You know fresh tendrils reminds me of her too, to me that song means you
wait for something/someone and put with all kinds of crap to get it/her.
But when you finally get it, it's cool for like 2 minutes and that
everything turns to shit and you realize you have been fucked over. Anyway
thats enough of my thoughts for one day. If I have offended anyone with my
lengthy post feel free to send me a multitude of abusive letters.

"Yes I am riding you!! Oh I'm riding you!! Oh I am riding you all the

Yep. I'd have to agree with the Fell on Black Days, because I've
always seen that song as being a guy who's having a really bad
day...after day...after day. And things just keep falling apart. Oh
well, at least I like this list. And I also can relate to the Day I
Tried To Live, because of the first few lines, where it says, "The
words you say never seem to live up to the ones inside your head." I
always think how I'm gonna just say what's on my mind and I do, but
it's never as powerful as I thought it would be. Except for when it
comes to asking a girl out, because then I just don't say it, because
I'm terrified of girls. Oh well. And I also like when he says, "The
lives we make never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead." I like
that because I keep thinking what I'm gonna do with my life, and I
can't figure it out, and even though I'm smarter than hell (not that
anyone can tell, though) I still probably won't make anything of

Subject: Interpretations

I've been thinking a lot lately about the different interpretations of
Soundgarden's music (the lyrics in particular) that have been voiced on
this list. I was reading an interview with John Cage today, and his
opinions of meaning seemed to be extremely relevant to discussions about
whether or not "Mailman" is about a psycho killer, what list members think
it's about versus what Chris Cornell thinks it's about, etc.

Cage says that music should make the listener an active part of the
performance (which is obvious in light of his experiments with "silence"
or pieces like La Monte Young's "Compositions of 1960"), and that instead
of having a meaning, it should have all meanings. That is, the way in
which the listener participates in the song dictates its meaning. He says
that by removing intention from composition, the composer is more
expressive, in that instead of the composer conveying a definite meaning
to the the listener via the performer, the listener and the music become
active forces in defining a song.

This certainly seems to be the case with "Black Hole Sun," where Chris has
said that people keep trying to figure out what it means, but he wrote it
by just stringing together words that sounded good. Thus, it should have a
different meaning for each listener, based on how each listener involves
him or herself with the music, because it was composed without an intended
meaning.

Just thought I'd contribute something...

AAAUUUGGGHHHH!!! I had a nightmare last night!! I dreamt that I had
somehow managed to make it onstage during a SG show. I made my way over to
Chris, and somehow I managed to see down the front of his shorts. <evil
grin> OK... get your minds out of the gutter people... I just saw what kind
of underwear he was wearing. This is the SCARY part. They were Tommy
Hilfiger boxer shorts. AAAAUUGGGHH!!! I DESPISE that Tommy line of
clothing!! It's so.... preppy. <sob> Someone hold me...
One last thing... no wait, maybe two... Is ANYONE else in Dallas going
to the Rehab Lounge on Monday night for the SG "Pre-Release" party? And my
mostest humblest apologies to everyone who has been writing me and not
receiving responses. I've barely had time to check my e-mail, much less post
or write letters. Please oh please forgive me? Pretty please with Chris
sans shirt on top? (picture it)
                     <kisskiss>
will always mean the girlfriend I had last year second semester of my
freshman year.

Oh I am riding you all the
waaay!!!!!" (Insert monolithic thayil riff here) Love this song it's one
of the few sg songs I can sing without hurting my throat.
