*WARNING : GRATUITOUS MENTION OF CC AT THE END*

well, i managed to catch the video, surprise, surprise, surprise. i usually
miss these things for a few days.

it was neat -- not amazing, but certainly a high-quality vid. very cool to
play 'hey, i know where THAT is' while watching the video (whaddya want,
i've only lived here a year, i still think the space needle is cool too ;-> )

can't tell if kim's a decent pool player or not ;>

and that LAST scene on the bed... ohmygoodness. <pant pant> how can a guy
look so good just SITTING there?

on a lyric-related note, i'm really enjoying the 'kiss the snake goodnight'
line. most of the buttrockers will assume (heh heh) that it means one
thing, while to the rest of us once again he scores with yet more biblical
imagery.

can't wait until next week...

I just saw the video again for the 3rd time. This time I saw the BMF logo.
And right after I did see the Ultramega OK logo too! So whoever posted and
said they saw it, you weren't the only one :)

BTW, have you ever noticed how on like MTV, they always play SG in the
background (ie Outshined, Rusty Cage, Jesus..) but they rarely play SG
videos. And when they do you have to be awake like at 2 am to actually catch
a glimpse of it. Thats always ticked me off.. anyways. What's the director's
email again??

Subject: Pretty Noose vid!

Just saw it on MTV!! That twit Kennedy didn't even MENTION that
it would be played, but she made sure to announce that Everclear
and some other lame band were coming up... idiot.

Anyway, I glanced over at the TV, in the lower left corner no less,
and my eyes beheld what they were aching to see : "Soundgarden /
Pretty Noose" I immediately went for the volume, but instead (and
I just KNOW some of you have done this once in your life :) hit the
channel button... and am transporte to something like channel 63...
ok, calm down, get back to MTV. OK, there we go... Pretty Noose!

This was kind of a double-benefit for me, since I've never heard the
song before, so I'll give my first impressions on the song and the vid...

As far as the video, you can kinda tell it was edited... it doesn't
seem to "flow" correctly... personally I thought "Black Hole Sun"
was a better video... not too many shots of the band, except at the
beginning and end... the start has all the members at a bar, some
shots of each individually... later on there's a scene where the cops
throw some guy up against a car (almost positive it's Chris Cornell)
later on there's a picture of the band that shows for about 10 seconds,
then blurs away... one thing I really liked was at the very end...

the last scene is the close up of an eye... right before the video ends,
you see a blue Badmotorfinger logo in the eye, then it spins out from the
eye... after the BMF wheel fades, you see the SG logo from the UltraMega OK
era (ya know, the "S") come out of nowhere and disappear into the eye...
I like little touches like that... i was like, "hey cool! the BMF logo!"
and, "wow! the UltraMega logo!!!" Unless anyone on this list was also
watching the video, I'm probably the only viewer that knew where the "S"
logo came from... :)

As far as the song... well... I'll need to hear it a few more times.
It did not strike me as a good opening track, like "Let Me Drown",
"Rusty Cage", etc... good song, but didn't grab me instantly... I got
into it more as the song neared the end, after the solo...
now I REALLY can't wait to get hold of the album...

Subject: PRETTY NOOSE single and questions from Hungary

      Hi everybody|||||||||

My name's Szabolcs Olah a big big big big big big big big big
big^10^100^ (t here is no 'endless' sign in the keypad) SOUNDGARDEN
fan from Hungary (Eastern -Europe). I'm a noo guy here, I've just
joined a month ago, but now I felt that I have to grab my electronic
pen.
I read the last few digest and some asked about the Pretty Noose
single, bes ides I've only dreamed about hearing the new song(s)
because in Hungary not eve n the Radio stations (though there are
bunch of'em) haven't heard about the Pre tty Noose (and the 24th of
april AIRPLAY date ) I phoned the hungarian Polygram record label (the
A&M distributor in Europe) they could tell me a big nothing, they had
thought that they gave new infos to me when they said:"It'll come out
in middle may" I laughed myself to the floor||| (and I couldn't even
download t ha wav files from the web page coz of it was so so so slow,
and after a while t he netscape gone to the Nirvana (not the band
haha).)
So you can imagine how I was shocked and surprised when I walked in
the MCD record store just for looking around (and to know even if the
new Pantera is av ailable or not yet) and MY FACE fell off, and my
eyes spinned a circle when I s aw at the NEWCOMERS RACK THE PRETTY
NOOSE SINGLE (I've read in the last digest that an english gentleman
has the limited. for him: HOW?and how does it look li ke ?
My Preety Noose single is white w/ red SG sign, and with the band
members in bl ack (looks like litografy - Chris Kim Matt and Ben)
It has the Applebite an An Unkind and an Interview (8 minutes) on it
But WHAT THE MOST SURPRISING was that the guy who sold me in the store
said tha t they had it now for one and a half week (SINCE the 28,29 of
APRIL) and I don' t know why couldn't the Polygram man tell me the
release date of the single. And it's very ironic (don't you think
hahahaha) that I still can't here Pretty Noose 'coz I bought it in
Budapest where I'm studying at the BKE university, an d I can listen
to it only when I'll gome home to Miskolc (where I live) on Thur sday.
I'm so down. (and sold out haha)
I go to listen to fell on black days (my fav besides JCP,
Spoonman, HALF , 4th of July, Rusty Cage Mind Riot, Slaves &
Bulldozers (ooh it's so doom|), H ands all over, Somewhere, My
Wave,Toy Box, I could write down at least all the titles of the SG
songs.

So that's the story|(morning glory hahaha)

Besides I'm going crazy coz I think I won't see the noo video soon (we have MTV
coded- only sound yeah, I will be in front of the Tv all day hearing
just the sound and seeing the colored and junky stripes, and lines) I
have here only VIVA zwei VIVA, (I'm totally fed up w/ german speech)
MCM Euromusique, and the hungarian Tv, that's called MTV too- it's so
funny. (Magyar TeleVizio) So please drop me a line where can the
mortals see Preety Noose??????? I collect everything (sound materials
and tabs, I collect almost all the intern ational US Guitar magz)
especially limited everything (CD-s singles, rare singl es, mixes
(Spoonm, Rusty and others) vinyls Ep-s Videos, so on ) So if anybody
wants to write to me then do it immediately|

And I'm a musician too, I have two band, with my 'main' band that I'm a gutarri
st/singer in, we play pantera like, and seattle like grooving music with Cornell
type (and the guy who sang in the VAI band I don't know his name)
type vocals in it, we play live Spoonman with percussionists (I do the
cowbell, and the .. I don't know its name in english, sorry),
Outshined, Fell On Black Days acousti c (just me) w/ some Tool and
Pantera. The band's name bLUNTEd. ( In the other band I'm just a
featuring musician, I'm the singer, we play Drea m Theater like
progressive music) If anybody interested in our materials (DAT, CD
casette either bLUNTEd or after@all (it's the second band)) please
contact m e|||||||||1

I hope I didn't bore you||||

(if yea I apologize for it and I won't write to the digest any more)

Well, apart from that I must say the video doesn't have anything
EXTRAordinary but it is way cool and is more pleasant(sp?) to look that
other videos going around...

Well anyways, somebody asked when does CC makes that Vedder "moking"

I've got both versions of the UK PN single along with the box that
came with the version with Applebite etc. The cover of the box has
"part 2 of a 2 CD set" written on it. The other single, the one with
jerry garcia's finger on it also has part 2 of a 2 cd set written on
it (does this make sense?). Were they boxed wrongly? Is there a part

I just have to say how much mystery lingered in the eyes... all these
brilliantly colored eyes... green, red... all so spooky. But the climax of
the vid for me is when the Bmf wheel gives way to what symbolizes Soundgarden
for me... that Sg-thingie as someone called it. The early band symbol
occasionally pops up (have it on my Kickstand tee I got in 94) but it really
reminds me of Ultramega OK & how much passion I got from listening to the
album in my youth... ok ok... I'm still a kid at 20 but much more way (hehe)
back then. It's one of the few symbols I sorta want embrazened on my body...
just that tatoos seem as such a permanent thing... I can't even decide where
I want my life to go. I guess I'm saying this: I greatly thank the director
for including that in the vid... inside of the eye (eyes are my fetish.)

Geez... that made as much sense as my essay final in religion. Sorry for the
mis-direction. I better go & um.. do something... laundry maybe. Hm... I
miss the outside world. I need a vacation.

Subject: to look a saint in the eye...

I bought the latest hot metal magazine this morning, because it
has soundgarden on the front cover, and a nice article with them on the
inside. most of it is rehashed history-type stuff (sundquist, sst, blah
blah blah), but towards the end, kim (who did the interview) says some
stuff about dotu. here are some of the more interesting parts:

(about metallica and lolla) '...they more or less said that, 'if
we are going to do the tour, then soundgarden will be doing it with us.'
not so much in that it will be a lollapalooza tour but in that it will be
a metallica tour, and we really enjoy touring with them. we had little
interest in doing a lolla tour as such, but when it became a metallica
tour, then we were much more interested'.

'basically, producers, the role they have with us has primarily
been as a recording engineer anyway. they are not going to make very many
creative decisions. also, when they do make their suggestions, rather
than just spending all that time negating them, we could just go ahead
and do what we were going to do anyway.

'I think mostly the idea was to have natural sounding drums
<yahooing .ed> and not go in for the overdubs so much, because
superunknown, although it is a really good record and we really like it,
I think it might have sounded a little bit slick for us.'

...where on superunk's the day I tried to live cornell sang 'I
wallowed in the blood and mud', on down on the upside's dusty he tells us
'I think its turning back around/and I think I like it'. does this mean
the band have given up their territorial pissings? 'I think there is
definitely an anger there,' thayil counters. ' I think lyrically there
still might be that anger there, but it might just be less angry in terms
of the typical heavy soundgarden songs. we've definitely done less of
that'.

(more on dotu) 'we anticipate that it will do well, ultimately
we'll have to wait and see. I mean they are a different batch of songs
and it's hard to second guess what is ever going to happen in the
states...we just try to be natural and concentrate on what we like doing.
there's no demand that we make another huge record, well I guess the
record company probably doesn't feel that way, and they probably want us
to make another huge record, but we just want to do what we do - and do
it as well as we can'.

Just a tad on the vinyl release:

I recently found the flower E.P. on vinyl (it wasn't a reprint, thank
god, and you guy's help on that). I didn't open it of course, (I have
the CD so why waste it) but I still think of it as my pre-DOTU present to
myself.

Anyways, I was talking to the guy I get my vinyl shit from and he said
that the distrubtor he works through made it sound like the vinyl may be
postponed and asked him if he wanted his order to wait for it before he
sent it. I hope to hell it isn't postponed. I have 2 copies waiting for
me, (1 cause I am impaitient to hear the album, 2 cause I want one to
collect and hang on the wall {vinyl makes good decoration}). Well, I
hope I don't get my ass flamed off for collecting, cause I really do
listen to the music. Anyone else hear of vinyl delays?

On a side note, me and a friend have been getting a band together. He
produces small time area bands and was helping host a campus area band
fest. Of course, knowing the SG freak I am, he let me play SG during the
intervals. How precious the faces of the people were when they heard
"Half" (my fav). It made me think. A lot of people own SuperUnknown,
but how many of those people actually explored the whole album? The
