No kidding...A little SG in the backround when I'm doing homework makes it a
lot easier, even if I put it on soft, the music still gets me going. I was
suprised when I tried it becuase I usually would get distracted when I popped
in any other bands...

Ok peoples... I know that I'm like the ONLY SG fan in Dallas... no wait.
There's one more. But FINALLY I've found out about a damned listening
party!! If, out of the 400+ other lister, there's more Dallas fans, listen
up kiddies....
It's going to be at the Rehab Lounge in Deep Ellum (2614 Main St.), on
Monday, May 13th (yah... one freaking day before the vinyl is released).
Stuff they've got on the flier announcing it... (if this isn't coherent,
fuck it... I'm NOT sober, just got back from the Reverend Horton
Heat)...:::::
- - Hear the NEW album.
- - Check out the never-before-seen SHORT FILM.
- - See every Soundgarden VIDEO made. (finally I'm going to see Flower!!)
- - Be there to hear the band LIVE on Rock-Line.
- - Win a Soundgarden CD collection, video collection, or short film. (I want
the video collection, dammit).
Then it's got a bunch of crap about winning a trip to Lolla.
"Here's how... Prove YOU are the biggest fan by joining our scavenger hunt!
Simply bring in any object related to any SOUNDGARDEN song... the more
objects you bring, the better your chances! Examples: Pretty Noose- noose,
Rusty Cage- wire, Loud Love- loud mouth spouse!"

I WANT that video collection. Wish me luck, peoples... cuz I'm going to
do everything I can to get it. If only they were having the freaking
listening party at Trees. AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!! Ok... I'm going to pass out now.
 Love me, bye-bye...

Politics, pork and profit in Pennsylvania:

Just last year Shuster Chrysler (run by William and Robert Shuster,
sons of Transportation Committee Chair Bud Shuster) spent more than $1
million to move to a prime new location in East Freedom, Pa.: a choice
spot on Route 220, renamed in 1989 as the "Bud Shuster Highway." So
now, Shuster's sons are selling cars right on the road named for their
father. The new Shuster Chrysler is also benefiting from federal
highway funds that Congressman Shuster helped send to the district. It
is located right at the junction of Route 220 and Route 36. And Route
36 is currently being widened in an $8 million project; 80 percent of
that $8 million is federal money. The road-widening work is being
undertaken by New Enterprise Stone and Lime, a local company that
admitted last year to making illegal corporate contributions totaling
some $69,000 to Shuster's campaign and agreed to pay a $150,000 civil
penalty. (Timothy J. Burger, "Shuster Intervened for Sons' Business
Partner", Roll Call Online, April 27, 1996)

I just got my issue of Guitar today, n there was a lil blurb about
Soundgarden in it. Here it is:

Soundgarden: On The Inside

Soundgarden's Down On The Upside had just crossed our desks at press
time, and you should be able to pick it up in a few weeks. Recorded at
Seattle's Bad Animals and Studio Litho over the course of 1995, the
album is a lot noisier and more layered than previous offerings from
Kim, Chris and the boys. Ranging from the wah-drenched first single
Pretty Noose and blisteringly Beatlesque Never The Machine Forever to
the ambient Applebite, the record clocks in at 66 minutes over the
course of 16 cuts. Thayil, in particular, lets loose with psychedelic
guitar and a wall of sound that shows a newfound level of detuned
experimentation.

Blisteringly Beatlesque.. thats the same thing they said about black
hole sun..

I glad you said this Ben I was afraid my old ears were to blame for me
thinking that. Maybe it has something to do with us sitting 6 ft. from the
big ass speakers. Although at times it felt like the music was crashing
over me. It will take me several listens to be able to formulate an
opinion on the CD. But I don't think I (or most of of on this list) will
be disapointed!! There were cuts that just reached out and slapped me
upside the head! Or was that you, Ben!

This is my biggest complaint! Why don't bands treat their fans to
listening parties??! The only reason I got in is because I lied that I
worked for a record store. The people there go for the freebies. Ben and
I were probably the only rabid Soundgarden fans there and that's a shame!!!
I think Soundgarden should invite us all to Seattle for a listening party
and concert! The first annual Seth-a-rama, or Sommsapolooza. If they give
it we will come!!!!! Toni

Aaah! I can't believe so many people hate Circle of Power! I love it! Dare
I say it's my favorite song on the album. Ok, maybe not, but it's second
only to All Your Lies. Hiro's singing is so bad, that it's good! Oh, love
that riff.

My friend, who also loves SG, made a wallet out of only duct tape. Isn't
that so cool? Duct tape: practical...and elegant.

When I was driving yesterday, I saw a hot dog shop called LITTLE JOE'S.
They have Vienna hot dogs, and other fast food stuff. Great name, dontcha

If it's like the MTV I use to know when I was in the US, It'll be on once on
Monday and then very hour for the next few weeks....Tho is might only apply
to Hootie songs and such....But with MTV I think you have a good chance of
catching in quite a few times.

How about Australia...any bets that RAGE will have Pretty Noose on this
Friday night (the new release night) or maybe next week...should be soon.

Chris Cornell thinks the new Smashing Pumpkins disc is truly fantastic. He

problems remembering all the new songs from the new SG disc). He thinks

Enrique Olavarria isn't able to transcribe all of the interview with Chris
Cornell that lasted more than 45 minutes, and I don't have time to
transcribe it.
Chris speaks about the new disc, about why it has been delayed in
editing it since the beginning, how they produced it, and he also speaks
about his influences. In fall, they will come to Spain. In the interview,
there were questions by fans of SG, and Chris's opinion on the discs of
Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis. In addition, he chose 5 songs from the new
disc for us to listen to during the interview (No Attention, Applebite,
Pretty Noose, Burden In My Hand, and Dusty).

It was fantastic.

Subject: New Album
From: Ben Timberlake <btimlake@nwu.edu>

As I was typing up the new album lyrics, I came to a few realizations.

1. It seems like there are a lot more songs on DOTU written in the first
person than the other albums. It seems this would indicate that the
writing has become more personal, and hopefully even more emotional. Not
that it needed any more of that, let's just hope it's not too much of a
good thing!

2. Some of the music from the listening party started coming back to me.
I have been singing 'blow up the outside world' to myself all day. Of
course, I can only remember bits of it, but I can't even come home from
work and listen to the cd. I *really* need this album soon.

3. The boys definitely know how to begin and end an album. Pretty Noose,
which most of us have heard by know easily lives up to Flower, Ugly
Truth, Rusty Cage, and Let Me Drown. Boot Camp differs a little from
other ending songs (esp. Like Suicide and New Damage) in that, it cuts
off a little unexpectedly. But after a few listens, I'm sure it will make
vastly more sense.

According to Kozik, "It's going to world premiere on MTV Monday, and
is supposed to go into 'heavy crush rotation' thereafter. Whatever the
fuck that means."

So if you miss the premiere, it sounds like you'll have plenty of
chances to see it later on.
