There's always going to at least one person who takes something too
seriously, and being the loud-mouth sum-bitch I am, I always have to
deal with it. But I don';t let those people get to me, no matter how
hard they try. But then again, I don't let deaths in my family get to
me. I guess I'm just a mean ol' bastard.

BT>You make all these comments about Heather's statement not being a joke.
BT>How do you know? Are you a mind reader? Perhaps it was a joke, or at
BT>best, a hypothetical answer to a hypothetical situation.

I probably would have said something like Heather did, if I would have
responded to this post. But if I REALLY found him laying unconscious
in a field, I wouldn't even think of it. I mean, we all say we would
do something in a hypothetical situation, but most of the time it isn't
anything close to what we'd really do. The first thing I would do is
flash my CPR and First Aid cards in his unconscious face (just to say I
did it), then I would make sure he's breathing and not in any serious
danger. Then, after I found out he's ok, then I'd probably stand there
in total awe, just because I have the ability to stand and my hero
doesn't.

BT>There was no reason for you - *especially* as the list administrator, the
BT>closest thing we have to an authority figure on this list - to have
BT>posted this to the list. It's like putting Heather in a public stockade.

Now, even though he's the head honcho around here, doesn't mean he
doesn't have an opinion. He should be treated as any other member of
the list, except with the authority to kick off people. That is,
unless he starts posting chain mail to the list. :) But, we as the
humble members of the list he so kindly started, should be considerate
enough to listen to his rules of the list. Seth has been on the list
the longest (I would guess so, anyway) so we should respect him as our
elder. :)

You know, Shroom's posts wouldn't be as big of a deal if everyone
wouldn't start these kind of discussions about them. At least they
have to do with the band. I find them entertaining and interesting,
usually, and I doubt many people would like the list if it were just
about the music. I mean, after a while, the old people would be bored
of it, and the new people might not be interested enough in Soundgarden
to stay on a boring list. So, if we keep it entertaining, we can draw
new listeners of Soundagrden into our group of "real" fans (as in, not
just jumping on the bandwagon....honestly loving the music...sometimes
you just have to give something besides Black Hole Sun a chance).

Oh no. Don't start really strict rules on the posts. I think as long
as we keep it Soundgarden related it should be ok. I joined the They
Might Be Giants list, and there are so many rules on that list. If you
send more than one message at a time, you get booted. But I don't post
to that list, because all the people seem to have sticks up their asses
and it's just not as laid back as this list. It's because of all the
rules. I haven't even read the digest from that list for quite a

gotten sick of this list. It should stay this way...

SH> Which as how it should be. It's all in fun. Jeez, but everything is
SH>taken SO seriously on this list. And if it's "easily dismissed" then why is
SH>it getting so much attention again?

It's because you post things that aren't always socially acceptable (or
some bullshit like that) and some people (like my mother) just can't
stand that. As with anything even remotely controversial, there is
going to be a lot of attention. If I wear two different colored socks,
I'm gonna get a lot more attention than if I wore two of the same. Or
if I joined a "Chris Cornell is the Sex God" list, and started talking
about Chris and how good looking his wife is, I would get a lot of
heat, most likely. It all somes down to what different people find
socially acceptable, and if you step away from that norm, people will
give it attention. I don't disagree with the controversial stuff being
brought up, it's all this other crap that goes along with it. I
usually don't post to stuff like this, and the message before this, but
it just had to get out this time.

7 Greed - Into The Void (Sealth): Actually argues _against_ this sin.

This is an interesting topic, but somewhat limiting.
I don't think that Soundgarden sings in general about sins. (Not to say
that that's what the originator meant)
Rathere, I think a lot of their (at least later) songs are about
Individualism, freedom, and a cycle of transgression/redemption.

My Wave: individualism that succeeds
Head Down: individualism that fails
TDITTL: ditto
Kickstand: success
Mind Riot: Redemption/freedom (Dammit, that's a good song)
Rusty Cage: Freedom
Outshined: Redemption/Freedom

Soundgarden cleanses me. It allows me to explode and vent the rage that
builds up all too often within me.
Their music's overall personal theme for me is catharsis.

both bhs and fourth of july seem to me to deal with apocolypse,
but apocalypse coming from two different sources. the lyrics to fourth of
july suggest to me the coming of nuclear destruction, the first verse
about the process of nuclear power being generated (shower in the dark
day, clean sparks diving down, cool in the waterway), the second the war
itself (and everywhere no-one cares the fire is spreading), and the last
about the survivors of the nuclear conflict (even though chris said that
the song is about taking acid).

on the other hand, black hole sun (imho) deals with a different
apocalypse altogether: that of judgement night. the lyrics sound to me
like chris wants some spiritual force to come and get rid of all the
garbage in the world. lines like 'won't you come, and wash away the rain'
or 'times are gone for honest men' give me that impression.

limo wreck and new damage are a lot like these songs also, where
chris thinks or imagines the whole world coming to an end (at least that
is how I interpret them)

I didn't think that my post was a personal flame. I was merely
pointing out that her idea to waltz up and cut off some of chris cornell's
hair was (imho) a dumb idea. the post (if you were to read it) was purely
and entirely personal opinion. it was not meant to begin a flame war, but
you and heather saw fit to start calling names. no, I don't think I'm a
god, and I'm sure ross doesn't think so either. I would have been
perfectly happy to entertain any and all replies to my post privately, but
I guess you couldn't help yourself.

> as hell aren't going to stop, unless Seth steps in and says we can't talk

you really don't think that most posts to somms should in some way
concern soundgarden music shroom? there aren't many lists who allow as
much leeway as this one has in the past. seth has not really defined any
terms of agreement as per what should and shouldn't be said on the list,
and that has probably slowed us down a little.

little joe and I are currently completing the faq sheet for
seth's page, on which he is going to set out some clear boundaries on
what should be posted. I don't know exactly what he is going to put in
there, so it could go either way. if he feels that posts such as yours
and heather's are ok, then I'll live with that. but if he says that it's
unacceptable (and as the list creator, maintainer and pope he has more
right than anyone to judge on those sorts of matters, and surely everyone
can see that), then I hope you can deal with it. I've posted this to the
list because I think it involves everyone. some rules are going to be
made, and we all have to either live by them or get the hell out.

just one more point. this is the internet, understood by all to
be the bastion of free speech and zero censorship. but I'm afraid that by
their very nature, mailing lists cannot be founded on this. I'm sure you
all understand that a mailing list is created with one overall design: to
talk about a particular topic of common interest. our topic of interest
is soundgarden. imho, if you feel that you have the right to post about
any small thing or big thing that passes through your brain on a mailing
list, then you are missing the point. free speech only works to a certain
extent on a mailing list, and especially on a musical mailing list such
as this one (ie. what the hell has oats squaring off against wheaties
got to do with soundgarden?). also, this list has a fairly long history
behind it. if you can't abide by that history, then maybe you are in the
wrong place.

any private and direct comments welcome.

What the fuck is this about "rules" and "censorship" on a mailing list?
I think you guys haven't been listening to soundgarden ENOUGH if you
starting to bring in ideas of who should keep their mouth shut when.

Of course, as already said, I agree with Seth's post concerning all this
stuff, but nonetheless I believe that was only a recommendation and a
communication not a laying down of fucking RULES.

What the hell, aren't we going for true expression?
Haven't you listened to enough lyrics that screamed at you about the
world which cuts off people's tongues and limits freedom of speech and
limits self-expression? This is Soundgarden we're talking about, not
some anal retentive band that makes music according to a formula.

Therefore, I am very much hoping that any communications involving what
people are allowed to say on this (having something remotely and vaguely
or deeply to do with sg.....) will be at best strong recommendations and
not fucking laws.

so now a little words from our sponsors:

"for all of your kisses turned
to spit in my face
for all that reminds me
which is my place
for all of the times when
you made me disappear
this time i'm sure you will
know that i'm here" ---who else but?

please, let's not kick the dog while it's down, or whatever. give shroom

had if for 65 bucks, but the place I bought it from only charged me $20. I

It only took me a friggin' WEEK to get through all the search results.....!!

Dig this, they played PN on national Radio today.
I know you all dont give a shit about that but
it was reviewed on the program.
The radio-program is called "Flip or Flop" and
there are always three famous Swedish musicsians
on the show. They listen to 3 new songs and
try to predict if the songs are going to be hits.
They are usually right but this time they made a
big misstake IMHO. They thought PN was NOT going
to be a hit. I think it easily could make a third
place on the singlelist and when the album is released
it is going to be nr.1 on the albumlist. RATM was
nr.1 for a week so why not.
Oh, and the stupid musicians said that they liked
Black Hole Sun but I guess that is the only SG song
they have ever heard.

Comments on this anyone?

That's fine, Justin. But would you be so kind in the future as to
consider other peoples feelings when you choose to insult their posts? What
was the point of doing it on the list? Couldn't you have just kept the
insults to private e-mail? Honestly... I can't see how claiming that
someone's idea is "dumb" in front of the whole list isn't a personal flame.

>it was not meant to begin a flame war, but

I never called you any names. I just said that you were too serious.
And c'mon, Justin... insulting someone publicly is liking begging for a
flame war. Think about it. Your insult wasn't much better than calling
names, either. Dumb, Justin? Yah... that's waaaay above grade-school
taunts.

>I would have been perfectly happy to entertain any
>and all replies to my post privately, but
>I guess you couldn't help yourself.

Why is it that you think that you can just insult someone publicly, and
then not expect a public response to it? If you would have kept your insults
private, then the replies would have been private, also.

>you really don't think that most posts to somms should in

Of course most of the posts to the page should concern the music,
Justin. And if you'll notice, there is an abundance of music related posts.

>there aren't many lists who allow as

Which is, IMHO, what makes this list the best one ever.

If that's how you feel about it, fine. But I don't think that we've
been "slowed down" at all. And what exactly have we been slowed down from?
Is there some kind of destination we should be looking for?

Seth has already stated MANY times that there are two cardinal rules on
this list.
1. No chain letters.
2. No posting consistently off-topic.
That has been spelled out to me by the man, himself. And I sincerely
appreciate his being so open-minded about it. But if he decides to change
the rules now... there's nothing I (or anybody else) can do about it, now is
there? I'll have to deal with it. As will everyone else. But somehow I get
the feeling that this won't be a very happy list anymore...

>some rules are going to be
>made, and we all have to either live by them or get the hell out.

My, but aren't we the forceful one? It almost appears as though you
have exclusive rights to the list. There's 400+ of us here, Justin. Perhaps
before any rules are changed, then some kind of poll should be done... so we
can see what the general consensus of the list is. That sounds fair, I
think.

That is understood perfectly, Justin. The Soundgarden Mailing list.
It's kind of hard to miss...

Opinions... that's what this is all coming down to, isn't it? Your
opinion is that only SG's music should be discussed. My opinion is that
anything concerning SG can be discussed. I can understand your disgust with
the oats vs. wheaties post. But that has already been chastised and
dismissed.

>also, this list has a fairly long history
>behind it. if you can't abide by that history, then maybe you are in the

A history of what? Flame wars? Just kidding... Seriously though,
Justin, we ARE all discussing SG's music. The other posts are just for fun.
If you're upset about having to delete posts, then I'm sorry. But how long
does that take? A couple seconds? Are you really that miserly that you
would deny some of us listers the enjoyment we get out of our fun posts, just
because you have to take a minute to delete posts you don't care to read?
That's not very fair, in my opinion. Can't you be a little generous here,
Justin? It would be extremely appreciated.

with all due respect, i don't think that's accurate. i'm not trying to
impune your experience on the net, but i've been on many, many lists, and
i run two right now. the only thing i've ever banned is *&^% virus
postings, personal boot lists and outright abuse, racism or sexism.

on the other hand, i fully agree with you when you say that this is
seth's list, therefore he fully has the right to mandate the type of list
it is and to set out guidelines for posts. *HOWEVER*, he has not done
so, and until he does, people can post as they like within the existing
guidelines.

it's not easy to be the boss, it's not easy to set down rules and stick
to them. i know seth has the best intentions of the list at heart and i
will support him in his decision. if i don't think i can stay on the
list within his new guidelines, then the choice is really simple:
leave. no one forces you to stay on this list.

ok, ok, ok... first, i want to say that deb must have read my mind b/c
what she said was what i was gonna say but she beat me to it-- good
job girl! i agree w/ you 110% i've tried really hard the past couple
of days to keep my modem shut during this flame war, thinking it would
start to calm down after a few harsh comments, apparantly not. and
then when seth got involved and you guys started arguing with him over
it, i decided enough was enough. so here i am, jumping on the flaming
bandwagon adding my 2 pesos.

i can see where seth is coming from... to an extent. it is HIS list
and he reserves the right to do basically whatever he wants with it.
and i can see how he would want the threads to remain SG related. and
how he would want to keep these incidents to a bare minimum,
*however*, i have seen nothing wrong in anything either shroom or
heather have posted.

we all know that chris is very much aware of his sexuality, he's known
that since SG's inception, and if he's going to flaunt it, flaunt it,
but you've gotta realize that if he does (which he has) every girl's
tongue is going to want to be up there...... it's called lust, and
it's ingrained in every person i've ever met. so how can you guys sit
here and tell us that you want to keep the discussions SG related?
they fucking are SG related. and even if all we did was talk about
the meanings of the songs, we'd STILL be talking about chris and sex.
it's that simple.

as for blind dog, i have a lot of respect for him, but i don't think
he was entitled to chew the shit out of heather because of something
she said. none of us will ever agree on everything, hell, we STILL
can't decide on the damn shirt!

how about this for a new thread to calm everyone down a bit: what drew
you to SG, and why? out of the kazillions of bands out there, what's
so special about SG to you?

for me, it's the fact that i can sit down put on any SG and *just
listen* they're the only band i can listen to without having to be
doing something. it's in the way everything fits together so
perfectly-- they move me. they're the only band who makes me cry the
first time i hear the new single b/c i'm so excited. the way chris'
voice lends itself to the rest of the music. i'm convinced that for
some reason, god thought he'd have some fun and put the most talented
musicians in rock history in the same band, so people like us could
enjoy life a little more.

wow, i'm being so uneloquent tonight, oh well, i'm tired. i need some
iced tea....... ummm, oh yeah, wasn't the theme of this list: damn
right i'm argumentive? just checking.

...and you'd be right, it IS a pretty cool thread! This is one of the
best I've seen in a while! Here's my picks :

> 1. Pride
"Flower" : to me this song (sorta) is about a girl that is really really
full of herself...
or "Jesus Christ Pose" : deals with people who think they are more
important than everyone else...

> 2. Lust
"Big Dumb Sex" : what else??? :) well, that's just physical lust,
the most important kind... :) but I suppose that lust for other
things, like money or power, would fall under Greed or Envy...

3. Avarice
"Power Trip" : the need to be in command of everything...

4. Sloth
hmmm... "Outshined", maybe? kind of about being down, having no
desire to change anything... I feel like there's a better example,
but whatever it is, it escapes me right now...

5. Gluttony
"Hands All Over", if just for the title... implies taking more than
what is offered... ("hands all over the inland forest, in a striking
motion trees fall down like dying soldiers"... see what I mean?
BTW, in case anyone cares, that above line is one of my all-time
favorite lines of lyrics, not just SG, but any band's...)
"Fresh Tendrils", too... ("give me little bits of more than I can take")

> 6. 7. SHIT !!!
I'm pretty sure that this isn't one... but I guess that "Exit Stonehenge"
would be the winner here...

6. Anger
there are several I thought of for this, but the one that keeps coming
back is "Mailman"... "Gun" was a close second... "Kyle Petty" finished
thrid...

7. Envy.
maybe "Power Trip" again... he is using the word "want" a lot, implying
that he wants to be what others are... there has to be a better one here
too, but for now "Power Trip" was the most relevant one I could come up
with...

Wonderful message, mopha, or whatever your name is (sorry).

OK, but thanks so much, for putting the old THREAD to bed (don't get too

her question was : how'd we get into soundgarden in the first place? which
is a great question!!!

well, first of all, the name is compelling enough for anyone who's really
into sound and music. the beautiful thing is is that as soon as you hear
a song you realize the band really is a garden of sound, especially if
you listen or go to one of the concerts. They throw in all this wacky
stuff for your ears and it's beautiful.

Soundgarden is great because they are such an individual to themselves, i
mean: the band has such a great individual identi , yet they totally
complement (or upgrade, or give something worthy to) the whole rock scene.

And, i must tell you folks that i think chris cornell is kind of an
enlightened fellow. but, naturally, we're talking about the whole band:
so, well, i think it's a pretty fucking enlightened band!

also, i love them because i think they are intensely hard-core, which, i
must tell you, turns me on (in a kazillion ways, not just sexually) in a
big way. and, listening to them makes me happy...

i could go on forever, but i won't, since i've been posting too much

Well, what do you know? All the harassment of the official Web people
has paid off (kind of). They've added the "Pretty Noose" lyrics, and
this is what they say:

I caught the moon today
Pick it up and throw it away, all right
I got the perfect steal
A cleaner love with a dirty feel, all right
Fallout and take the bait
Eat the fruit and kiss the snake goodnight

Common ruse, dirty face
Pretty noose is pretty hate

And I don't like what you got me hanging from (3x)

Let your motor race
Pick it up and get this mother gone
Out from far away
The wooden stake this thing has got me on

Diamond rope, silver chain
Pretty noose is pretty pain

And I don't like what you got me hanging from (4x)

Common ruse, dirty face
Pretty noose is pretty hate

I don't care what you got
I don't care what you need
I don't want anything

And I don't like what you got me hanging from (6x)

There's some of this that still doesn't strike me as true. For
example, I hear more than two syllables where the official lyrics say
"Our from" (as in "Out from far away"). It still sounds like "I've
fallen far away" to me. Does anyone have other problems with the
lyrics?

I've been keeping track of somms-owning somms-list-members and as
of 2pm, April 20, 1996, there are 37 list members that own somms, that I
know about. If anybody else has a copy, email me preferably with the word
SOMMS in the subject. I'll only count genuine copies, and assume they are
on CD unless you tell me. (there are some on vinyl I believe)
A name followed by (+1) indicates that that person also know people who
own it. I know one person myself. A number in brackets without a '+'
indicates that they own that number of copies. Clear? I hope so. See
you down on the upside.... (list of somms owners follows)

The list of owners includes:
Laughing Boy
Kelly Christa Jones
Seth (+3) (including 1 radio-only promo)
Chris Mackenzie

Jennifer L. York (+2)

Well, I hit about six used places in Chicago today and made some decent
finds. No SOMMS, which I was mainly after. I described it to the store
guy as "sort of a holy grail for Soundgarden lovers.
I did find Superuninterview for $24.99 So I bought that. I hope it's
worth it. I probably should have consulted other listers first, but oh well.
I also found a Screaming Life Vinyl (used) for $8.99. It looked like it
was in pretty good condition, but I shied away from moving into the vinyl
arena. This store had a bunch of SG vinyl stuff: colored vinyl, singles,
etc. I don't know how rare those are, but I thought they were cool to see.
I also watched Motorvision for the first time last night. I wasn't quite
in my right state of mind, but it definitely rocked, so I dubbed it on
tape and can now listen to it on my walkman (if that guy whose car I left
my walkman in ever gets back from jazz fest).

Subject: List hierarchy?

I guess since I'm a relative newcomer to this list I must have missed
something in the past regarding Heather's posts, because I found her Chris
unconscious post to be totally harmless. What is the big uproar about? I get
the feeling that she's being harassed for a reason other than this post, and
since I don't rank as an "original" member I don't have a clue what that may
be.
I agree with Ben that you shouldn't have gotten involved with this one, Seth.
Blind Dog wasn't the one getting flamed, in the beginning, and I felt that
this heroic defense of him was unnecessary. I do feel that Heather and Blind
Dog should have taken this fight to personal email, since their flames seem
pretty personally motivated. I don't buy that BlindDog's devotion to SG
brought on this attack. But none of that matters. What matters is that we
all have the right to disagree with each other, and to say so if we do. But
to be vicious and hateful is wrong, since everyone's opinion and thoughts are
valid whether we agree with them or not.
I love this list and, as Deb has said, it already feels like family. Cliche
as it is, can't we just agree to disagree, and discuss things like civilized
human beings?

> yes, the list is for the discussion of the music, but >i think that
>many people here will agree with me that one of the >reasons they joined
>the list was to hook up with other fans & connecting >shared experiences.

That's real true, Caryn, that was the main reason I was excited about this
list. Who else can we talk about this stuff with.

Sorry, just had to add my two cents.

the kind of song which seperates the truefans from the loosers! Then
there is An Unkind-this one is short and sweet, but it just rocks! Holy
shit I cant believe it. The interview at the end is like 8 minutes and
it is given by the band Eleven! wow.....Hey are anymore singles comming

Hey, wait a sec. I get the jokes, but this gets me thinkin. I like the idea
of pairing Chris and/or SG with a female vocalist....that could be very
cool. Personally I loved "Right Turn" on AIC's 'sap' and the
oh-so-overplayed-but-still-dear-to-my-heart TOTD song with Eddie, but there
must be some 'chick singer' out there who's seriously able to match Chris
for power and soul....besides me of course....

...Oh, hi. I guess I didn't introduce myself. Jessie speaking. I've been
quietly absorbing this list for several weeks now and on the whole have
enjoyed myself immensely. I tend to come home after a hard day of work and
scroll mindlessly thru this list....I don't have a t.v. so this does
nicely. Compelling characters, interesting info, and the soap opera of
flame wars (so strangely addictive!).

I've loved SG only since TOTD came out, so I'm sure I'll be very unpopular
on this list and just retreat back into my shell after this one attempt.
HOWEVER
I would be interested to see if anyone has similar yearning to hear a
collaboration with a female voice.....and I will sign off forever if anyone
suggests Miss Morrissette because that girl really bothers me (I wish she'd
learn what 'ironic' means, for one thing).
Maybe Johnette Napolitano? She's got a good pair of lungs. She's finally
left Concrete Blonde, now, too.....I always thought her voice was too
interesting for that style.

one more thing....sex and rock and roll have been tied together for awhile
now. Don't deny it.
Yes, it's dull to harp endlessly on the lovely bod of the lead singer, but
you can't convince me that his voice is not incredibly sexy and emotional,
as well as kickass and manly and whatever else people hear.
Finding out that he looks as good as he sounds was an added bonus for me,
no more or less exciting than finding out he is very articulate and
intelligent in interviews, unlike many musicians. (In fact, i was quite
surprised and pleased to read the "I dislike groupies" thing. It's about
time a rock star felt that way.)

Subject: How I got into SG... by Shroom.

Once upon a time... long, long ago, there was a girl named Shroom. She
was trapped in a world of MTV, Bon Jovi, <gag> Skid Row, and Guns N Roses.
Oh, how she pined for an escape from the hairspray that was threatening to
suffocate her. Then one fine fall day, her older and wiser cousin Rod came
for a visit from California. What a glorious day that was!! As soon as Rod
walked through the door, Shroom took off running towards him. Rod threw out
his arms in anticipation of a hug from his favorite cousin... but Shroom flew
right past him. Incredulously, he watched as she almost ripped the door off
of his car, and started digging through his music collection. It was almost
as though she sensed that something very special was waiting there for her.
Rod just shook his head, and greeted the rest of Shroom's family. After
about a half hour, he headed out to his car, to visit Shroom (did I mention
that she was his favorite cousin?). He went around to the passenger side of
the car, moved about thirty tapes which had been inspected and discarded by
Shroom , and sat down. They sat in silence for a few moments, contemplating
some local California band which has long been forgotten. Then Shroom looked
at Rod, and announced "Rod... all of your music sucks shit." Rod looked back
at her, nonplussed, and said "Shroomy... YOU'RE full of shit." They
discussed some favorite bands for a little bit, the main one being Mother
Love Bone. Rod had introduced Shroomy to the music of Andrew Wood a year or
so earlier. Andy being Shroom's god and all, they listened to some MLB boots
for awhile. This was a happy time, because all was well in the world... Andy
hadn't died yet. Eventually Shroom had had enough of the sucky California
bands, and announced that they should go inside and have some munchies. Rod
agreed, and then as they were about to get out of the car, he remembered the
tape he had just gotten. He told her to wait for a minute, because there was
one other band he wanted her to hear. He pulled out two tapes, which she
immediately snatched from his hands. "Who the hell is Soundgarden, worm-boy?
I've never heard of 'em. Another sucky Cali band?" Rod just smiled, and
put one of the cassetes in the player. Suddenly the car was filled with the
most wonderful sounds Shroom had ever experienced in her life. She just sat
there with her mouth open for a minute, as she listened to the lyrics... "If
you've got some time to kill, slow resistance wins the war..."
And the rest is history. Shroom confiscated the two tapes her cousin
had (LTL and Ultramega OK), and listened to them non-stop for a year. She
had finally broken out of the depressing musical gloom that she had been
stuck in, and she lived happily ever after. Well, at least until March, when
her God passed away. But eventually she got over it. It was alot easier,
because Soundgarden had taken over as her favorite band, and Chris Cornell
had sung loops around Landrew, becoming her favorite singer (although Andy
would always have a special place in her heart). And of course, eventually
Shroom found out (with considerable delight) that Chris was not only a
wonderfully talented guy, he was a totally delicious babe as well.

How the hell can anyone say that seth does not have the right to dictate
in anyway what gets put on the list?

No one said that he did not have the right to dictate "in any way (I'm
pretty sure that isn't one word) what gets put on the list." Several
people, including myself, pointed out that Seth had not set down any
rules as to what could be posted.

I don't think some people appreciate the amount of work he puts in so
that we can sidle in and read our mail each day. It's a list for the
benefit of all of us, but it would not be here if it were not for him.

And we are thankful for it.

at no time has he tried to limit the enjoyment
of anyone on it.

But you certainly have. Together, you and blind dog are the Comstock
of the soundgarden mailing list. Doesn't that make you feel
important?

Listen. If I wanted to be bossed around, I'd be living at home with my
mother. I don't. You can conclude from this that I don't want to be
bossed around, especially not by you. Do you undrstand that *yet*?

In fact it has been frustrating at times that he has not
stepped in to stop some threads.

Frustrating? You don't know about frustrating. Frustrating is being
bossed around by a boorish windbag like you.

I thank Seth for not stopping some threads. You wouldn't be saying
this if he had stepped in and not allowed you to post one of your
messages, now would you, little man? Of course not. The posts of the
lowly, coarse peons who do not understand your All Encompassing Theory
Of Soundgarden are the only ones you want stopped.

All this shit that we have been seeing lately is just that *shit*.

Have you ever heard the saying "One man's poison is another man's
food"? It seems appropriate here. What you don't like someone else
may, so it's pretty rude and insensitive of you to characterize what
someone else has written as "shit". How would you feel if someone said
the same about what you post?

 If
this what gves you enjoyment, I'm sorry but I think you are in the wrong
place.

Do you have any idea how pompous you sound? *You* think someone else
is in the wrong place? According to who, you and blind dog?
I think you're the one in the wrong place. Your snide carping is
definitely casting a pall over this list.

By making the points he did seth is merely trying to protect the
enjoyment that your average list member derives from SOMMS.

Have you spoken with so many people on the list that you know what the
average list member wants? Thought not. Unless you really have, it's
pretty presumptuous to speak for others.

 It is not
just an isolated incident in my opinion that has caused him to do it, but a
constant barrage of basically off topic posts.

Like yours, where you insult people?
Have you been paying attention? As there are no rules, if it's about
Soundgarden it is on topic.

 I myself am sick of
opening my inbox and deleting all but a handful of messages every day.

Jesus Christ and all the Saints, save me. YOU'RE SICK??!! You
ridiculous, overblown, cretin. YOU'RE SICK??!! So am I! I am so
fucking sick of you. You have no idea how much.

As for the stupid lock- of- hair post brought to us by the ever
scintillating Heather/Schroom tag team....it's dumb.

little man, no one forced you to insult me.

The saying I quoted above applies to this as well. It may seem dumb to
you, but that doesn't mean it's dumb to everyone else on this
list. Can you understand that?

 Blind dog got up and
said what a lot of other list members could not be bothered saying.

Really? Again, this is pretty presumptuous. How do you know that a lot
of other list members feel this way? How? I'm curious-are you relying
on the psychic network, or are you in contact with all 400+ members of
this list? Of course you aren't. You're projecting your wishes onto
other people. That's a nasty habit you seem to have.

 True
it has lead to another on-list flamewar but he, like Seth and myself see
that
something has to be done to stem the tide of bandwidth wasting
crapola.

Have you ever broken your arm trying to pat yourself on the back? You
are so smug and self-congratulatory that I want to wring your neck.
"Seth and myself see that something has to be done to stem the tide of
bandwith wasting crapola." It's Vastly Superior Man, come to save us
all! Just shut the fuck up. If you don't like it, don't read it. Is
that *really* so difficult? Is it? The rest of us have to delete your
griping, don't we? So you have to do the same. Big deal.

 I
don't see how you could possibly call into question his posting to the
list in the light of what you two generally contribute. It is always on
topic and interesting and often provides information to the list that has
not been heard before.

Why thank you for being so chivalrous, I didn't know you had it in
you. Seriously, though. When I read this, the picture that comes to
mind is of a rooster, strutting around the barn yard. But you know
what they say-one day cock of the walk, the next a feather duster.

"I don't see how you could possibly call into question his posting to
the list in the light of what you two generally contribute." I can see
your nose in the air, sneering at those who are so misguided as
to-shock, gasp-post something you don't like to the list. The full
horror of it!

In the past there was never a need for a defined set of rules, i think we
benefited from the fact that Soundgarden fans are in the most part fairly
intelligent. Oh well i guess a bad apple had to come along eventually.

Aw, don't be so hard on yourself.

This is why people who know what they are talking about are standing up
and saying what's what.

Oh, God! Save us, please, from this pompous, narrow minded twit!
Please, no more. We can't have done anything so bad as to deserve this!

I can see the 'bill of rights' flames flooding
my mailbox but hey, some things have to be said.

Yes, some things do have to be said. I'm beginning to appreciate how
frustrating it was for my mother when I was a child and she had to
repeat things over and over before I got the message. You're doing the
exact same thing. To quote my dear mom- have you lost your fucking
mind?! What is wrong with you? How many times does this have to be
repeated? You are so hard headed!

I'm going to try one more time.

1) You are not in a position to dictate what will be posted to this
list. Period. No if ands, or butts about it. (Wasn't it your pal blind dog
who posted saying that he had a "Seth given right to post
to the digest"? I laughed *endlessly* when seth cut him down and
put him in his place. Now if he'd only do the same for you)
You and blind dog seem to think you have some special
privileges that the rest of us don't. Guess what? You don't. Can't you
get that through your thick skull?

2) Something you don't like someone else may like. This seems pretty
obvious, but you haven't caught on yet. So characterizing other posts
as "shit" or "crapola" does nothing except insult people.

P.S.-I don't suppose you and blind dog could get into therapy
*together*? You both have the same issue to deal with-you and
he have this overwhelming desire to be the ones in control.

'Nuff said.

Soundgarden content: What would the members of SG think of little joe
and blind dog's attempt to censor others on the list? Would they
approve? Somehow, I can't picture any of them being in favor of
censoring someone else's speech. Wasn't that why they did Cop Killer
at Lollapalooza? They were disgusted at the attempts to try
and silence Ice-T because some people didn't like what he was
saying. Why don't you meditate on that for a while?

It's pretty funny that there are maybe a few people on this list who
have ever met the members of Soundgarden, yet we all refer to them by
their first names. It's just weird how we seem to "know" these people
after listening to, and studying their music for a long time. I mean,
we really don't know these people, yet we feel we do. Maybe that has
something to do with the honesty of their music. We all seem to have
our own ideas about what they are like in person (and most of our ideas
probably are similar to each other's, from what I've heard) and about
their personalities. I wish I could meet them someday so I know what
they are REALLY like. I really doubt I would be disappointed, but I
wonder if they would be as I expected. I know we can't know people
from their music, but we can (and do) set ideas in our minds from their
music (and interviews, etc.). I don't claim to "know" them, but I do
know I can identify with a lot of their songs.
Ok, tangent (but Soundgarden related). I was just thinking about the
band (as you can read), and since I have never seen them in person,
when I think of them doing something (like reading this) they don't
seem to be real. Even after I do see them live in concert, unless I
meet them, they probably still won't seem real to me. I guess I'm just

Heha.. =) anyway, I posted this before, so if you already read
it, delete it. But if youre new to the list, and really bored, then you
get to hear All About How I Got Into Soundgarden.
Anyway, the first time I stumbled upon Soundgarden's name was in
1990 when I watched the movie Pump Up The Volume. The camera shows all
of Harry's tapes, and Louder Than Love happened to be one of them.. I
sat there thinking "wtf is Soundgarden.." and the name didn't come
across my mind again until two years later..
It was a day in April of 1992 when I bought a Circus magazine in
the local shop 'n save. I stole my dad's car and drove around for two
hours the same night, and i was 13 at the time, but that's not relevant
to the story ;) Anyway the Circus had an interview with Soundgarden in
it, and me, being grounded for stealing the car, had nothing better to
do, so I read it. And I thought it was kinda nifty.. how they
absolutely raved about them.. and then one night in May of 1992, my dad
went to pick up his bitch from work.. this was around eleven.. so I
plopped down on the couch to see what was on MTV. Headbangers Ball was
on, so I figured the chances of seeing a decent video were pretty good.
Then Soundgarden came on. The video for Rusty Cage. I saw
"Soundgarden" in those neat lil white letters at the bottom of the
screen and thought to myself, "cule.. now I get to hear Soundgarden" and
well, I was so impressed by Rusty Cage, it's impossible to describe how
impressed I was. I was blown away. Abso-fucking-lutely blown away.
I've never had a reaction to a song or a band like that before or since.
It was like I'd found everything good about music in that song. I
thought Rusty Cage WAS music, man.. I was all "WTF? I've been listening
to DEF LEPPARD when there has been a band like THIS around???" I was
completely unexposed to good music and Soundgarden blew it wide open for
me. Well, then I was talking to this stoner asshole kid in my home ec
class, and as it turns out, he had a dub of Badmotorfinger, and he let
me copy it for which I was ever so grateful.. I thought it was amazing..
Slaves and Bulldozers especially caught my fancy.. I took it to Houston
with me for the summer.. and I bought everythin I could on Soundgarden..
there was this Rolling Stone article that I found that without it, I
would have been the dumbest Soundgarden fan on the face of the planet in
1992.. I thought Badmotorfinger wastheir first record til I saw that
interview.. I read it and I was interested in buying the rest of their
records.. that stoner kid I told you about had all the Red Hot Chili
Peppers tapes, and I thought it would be cule if I had all the
Soundgarden tapes.. so I went out and bought em all.. and I wasn't
disappointed by any of em.. I got a lot of shit for being so huge into
Soundgarden but it hasn't stopped me from listening to them. And I'm
still proud to say that I'm a goddam Soundagrden fan.. I always will
be.. and excuse me for spelling it Soundagrden.. I do that a LOT..
Jackie O O O OH PLEASE DON'T DIE! Uh huh.
And that car of my dad's I stole? I own it now =)
I'll shut up.
