'...jack irons had played drums on about half of eleven's new
record, _thunk_, before leaving (ed. what a bastard) to join pearl jam.
soundgarden's matt cameron, who cut four tracks on the album after irons'
exit caught one of upchurch's early shows in seattle.

'that was the biggest surprise, turning to my right and seeing
matt there watching me,' upchurch says. 'it was kind of unnerving, but
matt gave me the thumbs up. he'd seen the audition tapes and helped pick
out the new drummer. and he came up to me after the show and said I was
the right guy for the job. that made me feel good.'

matt sings on the last song, sad mcbain (which is a very cool
song). I think the way that album goes is: if you wrote the lyrics to the
song, you got to sing it. as for him holding a guitar, don't forget that
he can certainly write a good song on one, although I don't think he
plays any on the hater record.

maybe steve will be able to best answer this question, but why is
the section of the stolen prayers bootleg with unholy war, heartfist (a
*long* song) and stolen prayer entitled 'songs for ozzy ep'? didn't chris
go out with the full intention of writing these songs for alice cooper's
record? I've been wondering about this since jaime made joe and I a copy.
was it a mistake on the part of the bootleggers?

 I still love him, though.

I'm absolutely positive I asked them about CHRIS' home phone number.
Who am I to question the person who answers? Besides... they WERE kind

YAH!!! Hey all you Seattle natives!! Let us know if you hear
anything!! I'd definitely max out my credit cards to go to that. Or to try
to go to that, anyway. Hell... I'd probably only get within 50 feet of the
building, and the security would see me, and shout "HEY!! THERE'S THAT CRAZY
SHROOM GIRL!! GET HER!!" And then they'd hog-tie me, and throw me in the
back of a patrol car all night, until Chris safely makes it away. I know
that SOMEBODY associated with the band is probably keeping tabs on this list.
I mean, they have people watching the AOL boards... so why not the list? I
still wonder sometimes if Chris or the rest of the guys might not check out
the page or the list on occasion. Ummm... watch... I'll try to get into
Lolla this summer, and they'll have my picture posted at all the gates "Do
NOT allow this woman onto the grounds... she is mentally deranged, and
obsessed with one of the bands. Call the police immediately upon sighting
her." <sigh> I just can't win, can I...

Not all the time... :-) Someone else must know the real reason...

 but why is
>the section of the stolen prayers bootleg with unholy war, heartfist (a
>*long* song) and stolen prayer entitled 'songs for ozzy ep'?

From the stuff I've read online...Chris wrote the songs with the intention
of giving them to Ozzy. Since to me they sound like stuff Ozzy would do. I
would assume Ozzy couldnt use them...so he gave them to Alice Cooper.

An interesting aside, their are two different versions of one of the songs.
I think it's "Unholy War"?. Comparing the Supermainstream and Stolen
Prayers versions of the songs....you'll notice that one is about 45 seconds?
than the other (help please). I only have the Supermainstream version...So
I cant make the comparison. But according to someone I ran into a year
ago... the intro is different and their are some other subtle changes.

>was it a mistake on the part of the bootleggers?

Bootleggers? Mistakes? Nahhhhhhhh! ;-)

BtW: anyone else have this problem acessing the radio nowhere server. I
click on Soundgarden, Song (whatever) and I get the audio only screen...but
my mouse cursor is an hourglass. And at the bottom it only says Radio
Nowhere Stream 2 (or something). It never says position and starts playing?
But, when I access the Xing server...everything works fine. Anyone, anyone?

Hey, Geoff Kleemola - the fact everyone else in the world thinks Winnipeg is
a piece of shit? Fine by me. You and I both know what a great town this is
and I'd rather have people stay away from it (except Soundgarden - although I
don't think they'll be coming here any time soon after their concert here Aug
8/94 - which seemed more like a junior high field trip - I felt so old...) -
its the planet's best kept secret. Read the editorial in Sunday's Free Press
and you'll get an understanding as to why.
As for Mayor McCheese (and your invite to the camping trip) - actually, I'm
going to Lolla at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver - but thanks for the info
regardless.
Oh - one more thing, Geoff - by referring to hicks - I meant some of the fans
at a Winnipeg Jets hockey game who wouldn't know a Soundgarden tune from an
Ace of Base one. Besides - I'm from Transcona (or Trashcona as its more
popularily referred) - Union hick capitol of the world. Something I take
pride in, BTW.

Take Care,

I agree with your intrepretation on everything Gail. It was well thought

What is technical superiority? Really . . . is it that one band sounds
better than another? Or that they play better? Or they use weird time
signatures and odd ways of playing and sounding?

Time signatures and technical oddities (ie Blowing on the Strings ala

Oh I'm sorry, I have a bunch of private jokes that I always use and
99.9% of the planet doesn't get the joke. =) Okey, well, DDT is a
pesticide, as I'm sure you all know, but I used to drive a Plymouth
Turismo and I nicknamed it the DDT (for Dark Demon Turismo. Don't ask
how I got the Dark Demon part, that's even more complicated). And my
band has a song named after the car, and the song ended up being called
just DDT. And my friends and I think it's funny as hell to walk around
screaming "DDT!" in this high pitched voice....I guess you have to be
there =) I had to explain this to everyone. Sorry about that. And JCP
is Jesus Christ Pose, which (this is the Soundgarden portion of the
message) is my favorite Soundgarden song after years of deep thought
over this. Well, it's my favorite song until the new album comes out,
anyway =)

seems odd to me that the songs would have been originally written
for an ozzy osbourne album, because the songs fit pretty well (you would
imagine) into alice cooper's last temptation record, which was a concept
album. if they were originally ozzy's songs, then alice cooper must have
either changed his record around to fit in with stolen prayer and unholy
war, or it was one hell of a coincidence.

I was at the gym today and it was quiet, too quiet when suddenly I heard
a loud blast of distorted guitar(it was a bad stereo, but what the hell)and
on came Ugly Truth followed by the rest of Louder Than Love in its entirety!
This had to be the best workout of my life. However I think I've pulled
about four separate muscle groups because SG had me so pumped with
adrenaline I just didn't know when to stop.

Subject: 15 Songs & an Experience

Hi, this is my first post in 7 months and I'll probably not post again for
another 7, but I have to jump in with my list of 15 songs that would make a
great SG album. This is a pretty old thread but here's my picks (non-singles
songs, since I have exactly 1 SG boot):

1. Hands all Over
2. Gun
3. Get on the Snake
4. Beyond the Wheel
5. Nazi Driver
6. Incessant Mace
7. Slaves & Bulldozers
8. Room a Thousand Years Wide
9. New Damage
10. Drawing Flies
11. Holy Water
12. Limo Wreck
13. Fresh Tendrils
14. 4th of July
15. Like Suicide

My only other SG possession other than cd's is a 1989 ticket stub from a
dinky club in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where an 18-year-old version of me
got spit on by Chris Cornell. I don't remember a single song from their set,
all I remember is lots of black hair and the loudest live music I have heard
to this day. The stage was about as big as a king size bed and about as high,
and shaped like a triangle - no one could move around much. I was in the
front row and got totally squished by people crammed in behind me. It was
sticky gross hot in the club and Mr. Cornell did us front-row kids a favor of
drinking out of a water bottle, then spitting out what he didn't want on the
front row. I got a eyeful, thanks. He dumped the rest of the bottle on the
same front row. He was doing us a favor, trust me, I was close to passing
out. I haven't seen them in concert since. I only paid $3 for this show!

My vote for all-time funniest thread on this list was the Soundgarden
breakfast cereals. I can't walk down the cereal aisle now without imagining
rows upon rows of Big Dumb Chex....!

Hey All-
TOTD has been beaten into the ground by this list I know, and
I'm not helping the cause, but I was caught off guard by a snow/thunder
weird ass weather day Sunday. (In Nebraska, weird weather, no way!)
But I was driving, and I actually listened to the song. Listened
as in let it sink through all the layers of my cortex. Gotta say its a real
moving song. When Chris shouts "But this one has ended abrupt", then gives
a deep, affecting wail, it literally had my spine forming ice crystals.

just wondering if anyone thinks there might be some tension or
something as to who exactly is the headline act on the lollapalooza bill?
it was vasant's last post which made think abou tit: are soundgarden
going to be *the* headline act, or is it more of a joint billing with
metallica?

by the time the tour goes on the road, both soundgarden and
metallica will have new (and in all probability very successful) records
out, and I just wonder who the audience will be there primarily to see? I
know that most of the u.s list members will be rooting for soundgarden,
but is metallica going to be a much bigger drawcard for the organisers?

I read somewhere that metallica was the band that the organisers
most wanted, and that consequently they would only play if they could get
soundgarden to play also. so I guess that there won't be any sort of
bickering between the two bands (although as much as they wanted sg to
play, I read that the only contemporary band they feel is their peer is
alice in chains). but who will come out of the tour as the most popular
band: soundgarden with what we hope is going to be an absolutely kickass
album, or metallica with their new offering (which is supposed to be a big
departure from their first couple of records)?

Subject: sharing my good news with my soundgarden buddies

Hi folks. Yesterday afternoon I went for a job interview (I'm looking for
work elsewhere as I'm moving to a new district in four more weeks), and was
offered the job. To celebrate, I wandered into a music store to spend some
cash. What better way to mark the occasion of getting a new job on 15 April
than to buy the new Rage Against The Machine's album due to be released
world-wide on that very same day? So that's what I did. Also came outta
there with 4 other CDs.

Now I'm waiting..........waiting...........for 21 May. For on that day not
only will I be buying Soundgarden's new CD, but I'll have a double reason to
purchase it as it will be to mark the occasion of STARTING my new job - yes,
I begin on 21 May!! :-)

What a coincidence.

Any further news from any Aussies about Soundgarden touring Australia?? I
have the feeling they WON'T be here in May as we first thought, or we'd have
heard something by now. :-(

BTW, if you like RATM's debut album, you'll like their new one. A bit like
AC/DC - like one song, you'll like 'em all.........

OF COURSE it's a big deal if Chris has side burns now. Where HAVE you
been? Heheheheh..... ANYTHING that concerns Chris is a big deal. Ummm...
especially if it has to do with any body parts. ;)

Ummm... yah, I want to know about this too. Maybe I should write sgkots
again. Maybe this time they'll slip up and tell me Chris' car's license
numbers. Heheheh... stalking is cool. JUST KIDDING. Don't freak on me
people... I live too far away from Seattle to effectively stalk him, and he's
leaving to tour by the time I get out of classes for summer anyway. But
there's always next year... ;)

Wait... maybe I can. I'm psycho. Ummm... I mean psychic. Ummm...
Newt Gingrich? Spuds McKenzie? My aunt Charlotte? Ok... I give up. Who is

Here's an interesting new rumor that my friend Ezra started today. He
works at CD Warehouse, and I was up there today purchasing a new SG poster.
Anyway... he was trying to convince me that Chris had quit Soundgarden to
become the bassist for Weezer. This really ditzy looking chic in the store
was like "What??!!? Ohmygawd!! I can't believe it!! I love them!! Does
Chris play on Weezer's new album? Oh wow!! Wait until I tell everyone!!"
Then she took off. Heheheh... so somewhere in Dallas there's a bunch of
bowheads running around thinking Chris is in Weezer. That's too funny!!
Oh my thighs!! The Chili Peppers are on Letterman!! Dave oh so yummy

Dave... Mmmm... ummmm... <big wet slurpy messy kiss> Ummm... I didn't say
that. Ummm... thank yew and goodnight!!! <kisskiss>

Definitely Metallica. They're *way* more commercial than SG to begin
with. They're still a great band, but I think they've definitely lost
their "underground" image.

I found something else on streamworks, my connection isn't fast enough
to use it though (hey seth I know you have a T1 (ISDN??), check this
out!).

1. Click on the "xing" button, if you just d/l streamworks then that is
the only icon there, I know previuos versions have numerous
	buttons.
2. There should be something that says "picsets", select that and click
	"search"
3. The word "soundgarden" appears with some other stuff, select that
magic word, don't forget to cross your fingers.

If anyone can get this working please send a note to the list telling us
what it is. I'm hoping its a pretty noose vid clip or something.
