this is weird, because i thought about it, and i remembered that oral sex

I just read a message that said SG had a reputation for bad live

1) apparently part of the sg vid shoot took place at the tattoo parlor on
pike st. someone i work with was driving by early saturday morning and
saw chris hanging out out front. i won't mention how close i live to this
place or shroom will move in with me. ;)

2) re peter cornell, he is 'lighter' than chris in that he's got sandy
brown hair and the sisters are blondish. as to the parents, i dunno, my
friend linda has a way of finding out all sorts of weird info and she
pointed them out to me at an inflatable soule last summer at the mural
ampitheatre in seattle center. i don't think they were 'together' but
they were both there. and linda's a 46 yr old adult, not prone to
fabrication. oh well.

AUUUUGGGHHHH!!!! You tease!! I'd make a groovy roommate! I always pay

I do windows, and I can microwave a mean burrito!! Everyone should have a

Ummm... puh-leeze excuse me people... I just got back from a killer show
(Stinkbug), and I'm a little inebriated. Just a little. But notice please
my excellent typing skills. Anyways... one of my mostest favoritest SG
thingies at the moment is that new vinyl I got a month or so ago. Screaming
Life on orange vinyl. Only the first 600 SL ep's were released on orange
vinyl. I think I'm gonna be buried with it. Ummm... my all time favorite SG
thingy is the shirt I had on when I touched (and tasted <sigh>)Chris'
sexy/sweaty body. It got a little bit of his sweat on it, and I never ever
washed it. Oooh... Funland's on the radio... gotta go. <kisskiss>

Oops, sorry SOMMSers. Nothingman already explained in

October 1994. (I should know to read all my messages before
I post.) If you can backorder the issue, do so. Aside from
the detailed interview content, the pictures are uncommon --
2 full page pix of Chris, 1/3 of the table of contents is a
goofy pix of Chris which is invaluable to would-be twisted
fork makers, 1 small but great band photo, 1 pix of Chris
and his lady love, and the best is a tiny, early live
performance shot of a scrawny, teenage, psychedelic Chris.

in regards to the first apperance of the twisted fork it did appear
briefly in motorvision during the interview section in the van. I also
have a bmf era poster were the fork can be half seen. so I guess this is

P.S. does anyone know a mail order or otheer place were I could find

Musically, SG are a consistently inspirational live band.
(Kudos especially to Matt.) Attitudinally, however, if Chris
is having a bad show, he takes everyone to the doldrums with
him. Same for Ben. BUT, the concentration and patience it
must take to perform... At the Armory in New York in 1994, a
boy made it onto the stage and lunged at Ben, who was next to
Chris in front of Matt's kit. A security guard snagged the
kids arm and rotated him, airborne, away from Ben. A second
guard gripped the kids neck like a cat would hold her kitten
and dragged the boy from the stage. Ben and Chris froze,
looked at each other startled, then strolled to their
respective usual stage positions. Extremely professional.

I love Led Zeppelin, but I really don't think they had even a fraction of
Soundgarden's ability to handle odd time changes. "The Crunge" is a cool
song in 5/4, but other than that, what Zeppelin songs make use of odd
times? "The Ocean" comes to mind, but even that's not much of a challenge
for anyone to follow. On the other hand, SG has got tracks like "Cold
Bitch" and "She's a Politician" that required a dozen or so listens
before I could follow the meter. They're both great bands, but (imho) SG
is technically superior.

An Interesting thread. I did that. My birthday was monday(4/8/69) 2 =
years ago for my 25th b-day I bought a ticket and went to seattle and =
fell in love. It was on the way from the Airport to the hotel I first =
heard about Kurt's suicide. I went to the memorial service at the city =
center and everything . I even got on TV. Everytime they play =
Courtney's letter the camera pans across the crowd. Look for the guy =
with the red sweatshirt and red B-Ball cap. THATS ME.
Seattle is cool. Tons to do. If you want city life go downtown. You =
want remote country life, drive a 1/2hr in any direction.

P.S. - Was anyone else from the list at the memorial?

It sure doesn't sound like a debate to me. Much more like a *discussion*.
At least it's actually about Soundgarden. Why is it stupid? What is "Fear
Factory?" What is "boils?" Or am I just having a bad thinking day?

Ross

P.S.--To keep it SG related, what do you guys think the b-side on the
first single will be? Let's hope it's not "Kyle Petty."

Subject: SG Museum Stuff & Contract

Some of the more interesting SG memorabilia 'From the
Collection of Susan Silver Management' that appear in the
R-n-R Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A., are the following:

     1. Well-worn 1979 Gibson Les Paul used by Chris Cornell in
the late '80s and the 'Louder Than Live' video (1989)

     2. Traditionally framed photo of Chris Cornell at 5 years
old (1969) This is, no contest, my own relatives included,
the cutest picture of a little boy grinning from ear-to-ear
I've ever seen. Makes me want to spawn a litter of my own,
but that's more information than you wanted, isn't it.

     3. Black Godzilla silhouette on white SG T-shirt (1988)
Musta been somebody's favorite shirt. It's faded and well-
worn, complete with holes. Godzilla began to disappear into
the now greyish-white T-shirt. Seemed too small for a man
to fit comfortably into. Maybe it was Susan's?

     4. Handwritten (with spelling errors) on 4 pages of ripped
out loose-leaf paper, is the original contract between
     Soundgarden and Sub-Pop Records (1987) I assume it's a
draft of the contract because the page with the binding
signatures was not included in the display. It took me an
hour to hand write 75% of the contract on two R-n-R Museum
programs, but I thought the content of the contract would be
useful as a template for the would-be indie label owners/
musicians on the list. Artists need to be versed in the
business side of the industry, so who better to get a lesson
from than SG, Susan Silver Management and Sub-Pop Records.

3/4 of the contract is as follows:

     1. This contract is made between Jonathan F. Poneman and
Bruce Pavitt, acting as Sub-Pop Records (hereinafter
referred to as "Sub-Pop") and Chris C., Matt, Hiro & Kim
(hereinafter referred to as "Soundgarden") Sub-Pop hereby
employs Soundgarden to render personal services for Sub-Pop,
or in Sub-Pop's behalf, for the purpose of recording and/or
     making phonograph records.

     2. Sub-Pop reserves the right, at their election, to suspend
the operation of this contract if, by reason of sickness,
injury, accident or refusal to work, fails to perform
hereunder in accordance with the provisions hereof, or if
due to any other cause not entirely within Sub-Pop's control
or which we cannot by reasonable diligence have avoided, we
are materially hampered in the recording, manufacturing,
distribution or sale of records, or our normal business
operations become commercially impractical. Such suspension
shall be upon written notice to you and shall last for the
duration of any such contingency. At Sub-Pop's election, a
period of time equal to the duration of such suspension
shall be added at the end of the then current period of the
term hereof, and such period and the term hereof shall be
     accordingly extended.

     3. Sub-Pop agrees to loan Soundgarden three thousand dollars
for the production and manufacture of phonograph records
(see #5). This money shall be redeemed at a royalty rate of
%100 until the $3,000 loan is paid in full to Sub-Pop. From
that point on, all profits derived from the sale of
aforementioned Soundgarden record shall be split evenly
     between Soundgarden and Sub-Pop.

     4. Sub-Pop reserves the right to use and to allow others to
use Soundgarden's name and likeness, and biographical
material concerning Soundgarden, for advertising and purpose
of trade, and otherwise without restriction, in connection
     with services performed.

     5. For the purposes of this contract the terms "records" or
"phono records" shall include all forms of recordings
manufactured or sold primarily for use as home
     entertainment, (tapes, CDs, etc.)

     6. Sub-Pop shall authorize and supervise all art work and
promotion with regards to aforementioned Soundgarden record.
To this end, Sub-Pop shall provide $1,000.00 for promotion
     of aforementioned Soundgarden record.

All money used for production, manufacturing, promotion and
distribution will, hereafter, be referred to as advance.
Advance money for maxi 12" will be itemized as follows:

     1) recording $2,000
     2) art design $500
     3) shipping $250
     4) promotion $1,500
     5) manufacture $3,500 (for 2000 units)

Items 1-4 are recoupable once, manufacturing costs will be
recalculated and accounted for as they're accrued.
Manufacturing costs will be deducted from the gross sales
and will be adjusted according to fluctuations in
manufacturing costs. Sub-Pop retains the sole right to
determine how many pressings will occur. After
manufacturing costs are deducted, Sup-Pop will pay
Soundgarden 20% of the remaining net profits. This will be
determined on a wholesale cost of $4 per unit. Unit cost
may be adjusted according to manufacturing cost
fluctuations. Sub-Pop will owe no money on cutouts or
     promos.

     7. Sub-Pop reserves exclusive rights over the music featured
on any Sub-Pop release, for three years from actual release
     date.

     8. After that three year period, Soundgarden is free to use
the songs in any other recording project, the actual
masters, mixes and recordings of these songs and the use
thereof shall remain exclusively Sub-Pop's for commercial
purposes for 10 years from the actual release date. Sub-Pop
retains the right to manufacture any record in its catalogue
for an indefinite period of time.

     -Vikki :)

Note: Even if you are starving on Cornflakes and water,
never sell your publishing rights. Clean toilets. Wash
windows. Anything. 'Cause if one of your songs hits like
Whitney Houston's version of the Dolly Parton penned 'I Will
Always Love You,' you will toss yourself off the tallest
building in your city. If the kids need medical attention,
however, sell only a percentage of the rights to a given
song, so you will still retain some royalty rights. Also,
make sure a clause is included in the contract that the
record company is required to release and promote your
record, say, three months after you provide them with the
product. If you don't include this, it is their prerogative
to never release your work, which they now own, so you can't
pitch it to another record company. Good Luck.

		<LIGHT GOES ON IN SARACEN'S HEAD>

Folks the idea is fine. Obviously the Cream O' Wheat guy would
slaughter the poor peacenick Mr. Oats... but you are thinking too small.
No, in this media saturated world you need something that would grab
peoples attention, something slick and sick at the same time. Thus, we
should promote the Breakfast Cereal Unlimited Kombat Federation... Just
think, it could be bigger than WWF and Hulk 'a' Mania rolled into one. It
would be a full contact martial bloodfest between our favorite cereal
characters. The Trix Rabit, Lucky from Lucky Charms, Captain Crunch,
Honey Bear..., etc. Each would have their own martial arts style (you
figure them out). Put them in an arena and let them fight till one gives
or can't continue the fight. Now, you must be asking how does this tie
into Soundgarden? Well, we just have to provide a sound track for all
this Mega Violence... So, each character must have a Soundgarden tune
that they fight to or plays upon entrance and winning a match... (You
decide which). Hope this makes this thread relevent or just makes it go
away... have fun kids.

here in australia the bside to both outshined and spoonman (first
singles from their respective albums) was cold bitch, and as much as I
like that song, I hope the trend doesn't continue.

what would be cool, considering that it is probably going to be
released before the album, is a demo version or two of songs that are
going to be on dotu. normal versions of songs like rhinosaur or never the
machine forever would be good, but wouldn't be so good once the album
came out.

yonks back there was an article that said they had 30 or 40 songs
written for the album, so there must a lot of bside material floating
around (songs like karaoke and kristie). my personal favourite would a
soundgarden cover of the hater song down undershoe. ben should have saved
that song for superunknown :)
