well, kinda anyway.

afater I saw that article in ATN, i emailed it to my friend chris ("take
my camera and get down there!"). he went down around noon i guess, the
place was empty for the most part xcept for the vid crew, he overheard
LOTS of convo about story ideas and stuff, and as he relayed it to me,
"cc's name was invoked several times". ;) convo was like, can he do this,
is he available to do that -- my friend thought that it sounded like cc
was only going to be around for a few hours today.

he hung out in the area for about three hours, going back and forth, but
didn't see any sign of the band members or anyone else after the initial
vid crew sighting. ;( we thought about going back down around 8:30 but i
was fucking dead on my feet (i know, i know, that shouldn't be a reason)
- -- my logic being, it wasn't a performance vid, chances are they'd just
close the club anyway, all we'd get to see (*maybe*) is band members walk
in and out. big deal (well, to me anyway).

funny thing was that there was no one else hanging out down there -- i
guess ATN isn't that popular or something? i mean, it's the first thing i
read every morning when i get to work (after the computer news, anyway.
;))

interesting interesting interesting. will keep my ears to the ground &
report on any other interesting tidbits -- of course now i'm dreading
waking up in the am and hearing on the alternashlock station that they
played at the ok hotel tonight and allowed any fans in the area in, etc.
if i didn't have the day from hell at work tomorrow i'd have gone

i hate work.

There are two saxophones. A tenor and alto, I would guess. The alto
is what the squeak is before the second one comes in. And if you
listen close, you will hear both of them...the alto squeaking away,
while the tenor plays something half discernable over the sueaks.

PE>where did chris learn how to play the harmonica, cuz that times of trouble

I have a theory about harmonicas. I think people just say, "I think it
sounds cool, so I'll go out and get one." And then they just play
around with it. I don't think people actually "learn" to play it. I
have one, and I can play some pretty cool stuff, but I can't play that
solo, because he has a different harmonica in a different key, or
something. Anyway, it just takes a little getting used to, and knowing
where to blow and where to suck (it's getting disguating), and then you
have it. I dunno, though.

this one kid on my hall told me he didn't jive with the name badmotorfinger
because he thought it sounded, like, lascivious or something. i asked why,
and this know it all girl told me that a motorfinger is slang for a
dildo/vibrator. i told her that in all my years of using dildos (just
kidding,) that i'd never heard that. i have no reason to believe it
either. i mean, that double entendre shit might work for acdc, but sg?
whatever. i think a badmotorfinger is exactly what's pictured: a
sparkplug, or whatever car part that is. i don't know how that relates,
but it relates more to sg than a friggin dildo!
i thought satanoscillatemymetallicsonatas was really cool when i first saw
it written on the cd itself. i palindromes are cool (what a great way to
meet women as well.) and sg used a really cool as their title. i wonder
which one did it, i suspect it was kim.

i suppose that superunknown is just slightly more unknown than
ultramegaunknown. i think it goes magna cum unknown, kingdom of cum
unknown, summa cum unknown, ultramegaunknown, then superunknown. (i think
it's high time i 86 this joke.)

did anyone realize that the platters song "on broadway" and superunknown
have very similar progressions? i don't know if this relates to anything,

Hey Nothingman,

I THINK the banjo is played on Times of Trouble.....It's funny that you
mention it because I was just listening to that song this morning....Yeah,
it's gotta be one because I always thought it was an acoustic hooked thru some
wierd effects pedal.

Yes, cassettes can be recorded to computer - it doesn't require hugely
expensive equipment, namely cassette deck, soundcard and lead.

I can't speak for all soundcards, but generally speaking, most soundcards
(especially Soundblaster cards) for computers have a line input on the back
of them into which you can plug a stereo lead in, or a microphone socket
into which you can place a mono lead. These sockets tend to be 1/8" ie.
usual Walkman size sockets, so you might also need an adaptor as well as a
lead. A typical setup might be a simple cassette recorder with stereo 1/8"
lead hooked straight into lead-in socket...

Then it's a simple matter of recording. If you're on a PC there's tonnes of
programs on the 'net which will record from the input of your soundcard,
then you can fiddle with it, cut, paste, amplify, add reverb etc.etc. Spool
cassette through to correct spot, set software up, hit record on computer
and tape deck.

.wav files are those usually recorded through Windows, or at least a PC. .au
files I think are associated with Silicon Graphics machines. Generally,
either will be snapped up by the listening public, as there are utilities to
play either type...

Subject: Web page ideas?
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

I was looking at the list of things I said I was going to complete in
January for the unofficial SG page and now that it's April, most of
those things are done. The only things I haven't done yet are make
video clips and implement a chat room. I don't intend to do the chat
room, because I seriously doubt it would get used much, and if people
want to talk Soundgarden they can join this list. I *will* do video
clips, that I promise.

Does anyone have any ideas for cool things they would like to see
added to the page? The FAQ is in the works, and though it was thought
up a long, long time ago, it looks like it's going to be done soon,
thanks to some brilliant friends. I was also considering adding a
guestbook, so maybe I'll do that this weekend.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the page belongs to all of
us, so if you have ideas, tell me!

JCP should not offend anybody religious, according to the band. So your
friend shouldn't be offended, but he/she probably will. The song is from
Chris' perspective looking at all the entertainers who use the 'Jesus
Christ Pose' in videos etc. If you read/listen to the lyrics it makes
perfect sense:
And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ Pose
Arms held out
Like you've been carrying a load
And you swear to me
You don't want to be my slave
But you're staring at me
Like I need to be saved
In your Jesus Christ Pose
Arms held out
In your Jesus Christ Pose
Thorns and shroud
Like it's the coming of the Lord
And I swear to you
That I would never feed you pain
But you're staring at me
Like I'm driving the nails
In your Jesus Christ Pose
And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ Pose
Arms held out like it's
The coming of the Lord
And would it pay you more to walk on water
Than to wear a crown of thorns
It wouldn't pain me more to bury you rich
Than to bury you poor
In your Jesus Christ Pose

Seth's website has an audio in the multimedia section in which the band,
mainly Chris, explain the song.onefellswoop

We don't get either of those in Australia, but they sound like breakfast

if anyone had trouble reading my last post, sorry about that. left out a
few words here and there. guess i'll have to open the window next time i
use wite-out. oh, wow! i'm listening to mood for trouble right now, and
remember when i was talking [incessantly] about that 'even flow' rhythm
that groups 4/4 as 3-3-3-3-4? well, the really cool groovy middle part of
mood for trouble does it too. that rhythm really jives with me.

i was playing organ in a catholic church today (i'm not catholic myself,
though), and the focus for today was none other than the cross, and all i
could think of was JCP. i wish i could have launched into it on the organ,
but alas, i never bothered to learn JCP for pipe organ. that would score
big points with the priests, if i played it though--especially if i tried
to sing along. i'm picturing it now: lightning striking down through the
roof, and right into my spine. sheesh. the thought is almost as bad as
the time i showed up late to play friday stations, munching a big mac. boy
did they stare at me....like i'm driving the nails.

you just want me for my temple of the doggy-style.

I came home from painting Mr. Champagne's house to find a tape that
someone on the list so graciously sent me: Pretty Noose. (Eric, THANK
YOU! it sounds great). Anyway I know you've been pining for a decent
review of it, I've listened to the song six or seven times so far, and I
want to write a good one (I've been thinking about this for an hour).
Unfortunately I don't have the lyrics figured out yet :( I'm gonna try
to do my best to do that tonight, but I suck at lyrics :( But here's
the best review I can do, under the circumstances.

It starts with this slow, jangly guitar riff... just Matt on the cymbal,
a bass note, and the guitar riff, which sounds like it's being played
with a bit of wah.. It reminds me of Alice In Chains' "What The Hell
Have I". There is some other guitar playing some notes underneath this.
Then the band kicks in. Chris is singing this kinda high. The song is
kinda heavy, not like Slaves And Bulldozers heavy but The Day I Tried To
Live kinda heavy. It sounds like Matt is playing quite a bit on the
toms. There's also a guitar solo in it, and the background vocals in
the chorus is Chris's voice, I think. It's not a very fast song, but
it's not slow, either. The best I can do is say in tempo, it falls
somewhere between Spoonman and Black Hole Sun. I'll try to figure it
out with Mr. Champagne's metronome on Tuesday. Certain parts of the
song.. the rhythm the guitar is playing reminds me of (call me crazy)
Nirvana's "In Bloom". Of course, you all are probably gonna hear this
and shoot me or something :> The chorus is "And I don't like what you
got me hanging from" repeated three times. I'm trying to figure out the
background part, the singing part anyway.. oh, he's singing "hanging
from" in the background. Well, you all know that I'm a complete idiot,
and the fact that I've been hanging around Mr. Champagne and sniffing
paint fumes since 10 this morning doesn't help :> I'm gonna go try to
figure out those lyrics now.

Ok, this is what I have so far. Notice, I'm still working.. and I'm
also terrible at this :(

Pretty Noose

I got the something something
Pick it up and throw it away, all right
I got the perfect stand (?)
Clean it up with a dirty feel, all right
Follow up and fake the pain (?)
Eat the fruit and kiss the snake goodnight
something something, dirty face
Pretty noose is pretty hate (?)
and I don't like what you got me hanging from
Letting your motor race
Pick it up and get this mother gone (I don't have a clue.)
Something something far away
Something something something something
Something something, something else
Pretty noose is pretty pain
and I don't like what you got me hanging from
Pretty noose, dirty face
Pretty noose is pretty hate (?)
and I don't care what you got
I don't care what you need
I don't want anything
and I don't like what you got me hanging from

The ones that I'm pretty sure of are the lines "pretty noose is pretty
pain" and "clean it up with a dirty feel" and "eat the fruit and kiss
the snake goodnight", also I'm sure of the end part. The line that I
interpreted as "pick it up and get this mother gone", well, I think
that's a result of paint fumes. :> also I think I got the second line
right. Not very good, I know :(, but Chris is singing this a lil higher
than I thought, also I really suck at this. Hopefully I can make more
progress...

ok maybe i'm a retard or something but I barely heard pretty noose
for the first time tonight in my car (ON THE RADIO) of all places....I was
driving home enjoying the sun and this song comes on 91X. I thought it
was excellent thus I kept listening. Then I thought, "wow, this really
sounds so much
like sg" but I didn't think it was because it was a song I had never
heard. DJ never said who it was (idiot). I ran inside my casa and
called the station - low and behold it was Pretty noose...I asked him if he
was going
to play any other new stuff from the new album and he asked what was it I
had to hear....(would he actually have a copy of the new album already?)
I asked him to play me anything and I would be a happy camper :) (which
actually is an underestimation) He basically told me to keep listening
tonight and wishes are on their way....So I plan on sitting here like a
dork, playing darts, drinking lots of beer and waiting.....(of coarse
recording!) Well, I just wanted to share my happiness..sorry for the
rambling. This is probably the only place I could go and ramble about
this and people would actually understand...I guess this goes to show
that not all DJ's are idiots. Actually, I should wait and see.....Have a
good one...Maritza

Ok. The shirts will cost $8.00. Now I just have to get the postage
(for sure postage) and we'll be set. I will post more about it later

Missing's also available on (boot cd) 'Supermainstream' which I've seen only
once in stores (Bill's Records & Tapes in Dallas... but he's awfully
expensive) & 'Cliff Poncier' (sp?) available on a booted 7" (I think) which
I've only read about.

I figure Cornell wrote this entire song (as well as recorded). Jeff Ament
set the song titles & Cornell wrote the songs: leading to Seasons, Nowhere
But You, Spoonman (check in Superunknown's liner notes), Fluttergirl and, of
course, Missing. He did all of these around the time Singles was being cast
(my guess) but I'm sure everyone already has figured all this out... Does
anyone else admire Cornell's ability to rock on the coffee cans? (c: (That's
what it sounds like he's playing on the Spoonman from Singles.)

Ah... today at work (record store) I was playing Badmotorfinger & some moron
said & I freakin quote, "my mama is better than Soundgarden." I sorta

How many days until DOtU is released? 46 I think... Pretty Noose hits radio
in just a few weeks and the single'll be in stores shortly thereafter. I'm,
