I'm just trying to do my part!!!

Ok, all people going to lolla this summer, think about this one:
What song MUST sg play at lolla in order to make your life complete?
Only one song. If someone says bhs, i'll kill them. Or at least hire
nothing man to annoy them to death. I would be ecstatic if Sg went
through an entire set WITHOUT playing bhs. Could it happen? Ok, my vote
for the song they must play is BEYOND THE WHEEL. I must hear it live.
Else i'll just have to keep going to sg concerts until i hear it! And
that could get expensive.... -j

Lets say that Soundgarden has bronken up. And A&M being typically weedy
wesels that any corporate music business that it is has decided to milk
the last penny out of Soundgarden that they still can have decided to
release a double CD (because double CDs are the rage today eg. pumpkins,
2-pac etc). On one CD of course will have all the singles they
released;
Flower, Hands all over, Loud Love, Big Dumb Sex (b/c GNR covered it),
Rusty Cage, Outshined, JCP, My Wave, BHS, day i tried to live, fell on
black days, spoonman, and Superunknown. Hope I didn't miss any.
The second CD will be those special favorites that will cover the lenght
of their career that will be picked out by you and your special interests
and whims just because you liked them the best. 15 songs you get that
should completely cover their career but totally subjective.
My fifteen
1. Nothing to say - the introvert's theme song
2. Hand of God - early classic
3. Mood for trouble
4. Nazi Driver - I don't care if it tastes like poison
5. Head Injury
6. Mood for trouble
7. Ugly truth - overlooked it seems
8. I awake - it just grows on you
9. Full on Kev's Mom - dont ask me why, its just weird
10. Slaves and Bulldozers (live) the best song to hear live, Sg can
    really jam
11. Somewhere - the last song on one of the greatest sides ever (my first
copy of BMF was on tape
12. Searching with my good eye closed - the song just grooves, great song
to listen to when chemically altered
13. Limo Wreck - this song just grows on you, my personal fave
14. Mailman
15. Head down

Thats my subjective list of non singles to throw on the best of ablum.
Methinks this is the definition article subject so I understand why it
would not get many replies but some of yall might want more SU.

BLACK HOLE SUN! Kidding.. :> I like Black Hole Sun and all, but on the
Reading tape they just sound so bored with the whole thing, they're
probably disgusted with that poor song :( I wouldn't want them to fall
asleep in the middle of their set. So no Black Hole Sun. Hmm... I
would like to see them do No Wrong No Right live. But I think I'm with
you.. I wanna see em do Beyond The Wheel :>

Dear Clown;
A point of clarification. Apparently, you (and anyone else out
there that got unintentionally offended) mistook my little e-mail message.
Let me clear up a bit of information here.
I DON'T CARE HOW YOU DRESS. I care about fake people. If you've
worn LL Bean all your life, more power to ya. More power to ya if you've
worn thrift store hand-me-downs all your life. CLOTHES DON"T MATTER.
Clothes don't make the person. Which is my point exactly. These pouser
types think that if they look cool, then hey! They ARE cool. And that's my
point. My intention is not to rag on music fans who happen to be rich. I'm
not exactly lounging in the land of welfare, myself. I AM going off on
fakers. People who beat you up in middle school cuz you had long hair, and
laughed at you in the 10th grade cuz you wore boots instead of basketball
shoes/loafers. These are the same people who claim ---(PJ, SG, Nirvana, the
Dead, AIC, take your pick) for their very own. I can't tell you how many
times I've heard this from the pousers:
"Me? Uhh...I've always liked the Dead. Just no one knew it. Yeah,
that's it...this shirt? Oh yeah...umm..Yeah, I made it myself..."
       Or this one:
"Dude, Nirvana's sweet, man. They're the best. I love that song
Black. Oh wait, I mean Black Hole Sun. No, wait,it's Even-Fro. I mean,
Even-Flow. Yeah, dude, I've always been a fan."

I want to KILL these people.

Wear what you want to wear. If you're happy with yourself, cool.
I'm just ragging on people who dress/act/whatever a certain way so people
will think they're cool/alternative/grunge/etc. It's ridiculus. And you're
right-- you SHOULDN'T care what I think of you, and vice versa. It sounds
like you're for real. That's cool, I don't care if you wear
loafers/khakis/whatever. I DO care if you're a pouser, and you're not
sounding like one, so you shouldn't be offended. I hope you don't think I'm
"making snap judgements because of someone's income". As I've said, money
doesn't matter. Your personal integrity does. Your level of income has
nothing to do with your ability to appreciate music. So no matter how many
rock T-shirts these fakers buy, no matter how many bead necklaces they make,
how many imports they buy, etc., they're still LITTLE BAGS OF PUS in my book.

As for the rest of your message, I agree (mostly). I agree that SG,
RATM, King's X, Belly, and Juliana Hatfield are cool. I can respect your
opinion that PJ bites. Everyone has their own tastes.
As for PJ=Eddie, well... Everyone in PJ agrees that Eddie is the
frontrunner. Stone said that Eddie was definitely the
philosophical/spiritual leader in PJ. So it's not like Eddie's suppressing
them. No one is arguing that there aren't other people in PJ besides Eddie.
If I do recall, there was that little thing called Mother Love Bone. Before
that: Green River. You think that people are just gonna ignore Stone and
Jeff's musical attributes in PJ? Get real. Look at Jack Irons--former
drummer for the Chili Peppers. Not exactly wallowing in obscurity, is he?
And what's this?--Temple of the Dog. If I can read the CD booklet (and I
can), it says Eddie sang half the lead vocals on 1 song and background
vocals for 3 others. Not exactly spotlighting Eddie, are we? As I recall,
the album was a tribute to Andrew Wood. Hey wait--isn't he from--Mother
Love Bone?! Oh my gosh!! People are recognizing the band that doesn't have
(gasp!) Eddie!!
Let's not forget the fact that Eddie, being the front man, is the
most easily seen (both literally and metaphorically). He writes the band's
lyrics--their prime source of communication. Think about it; who pops up in
your mind first when you hear of a band? Their drummer? Their keyboardist?
Or their singer?
Did you ever stop to think that maybe Eddie's not hogging the
spotlight? That maybe he was jumped on by the media? That maybe that's why
he doesn't want to be in the media? That he wants the emphasis on the BAND,
not him? Don't jump to conclusions. You don't like PJ musically, and I can
respect that. In fact, I definitely agree that there are bands out there who
are more musically talented than PJ (SG being one of them). But don't dis
the musicians as people just because of that. Eddie is the victim of some
things he can't control(ie., the media, MTV, pouser fakes, etc.). Give him
a chance as a person, if not a singer.

That's all folks. If there's anyone out there who would like to
comment more, just send a message to the Digest.

        One last time:
                I don't hate preppies.
                I don't hate rich people.
I do hate people who switch clothes/hair/music/ways of life
at the drop of a hat, just so they'll be cool according to
MTV.
As stated before, be original for once in your pathetic lives.

                        See ya, Dun

Only one song?! I cxan't do that. Ok, my favorite from Motorvision is
Little Joe, and I'd love to see them do it live. Chris' vocals are
pretty different (and better) on Motorvision (as opposed to Sceaming

I don't think that your average MTV viewer has enough intelligence
to realize that Metallica rules. I've never seen that typed.

Albums from Soundgarden and Metallica should come with warning labels :

1. Little Joe
2. All Your Lies
3. Mood for Trouble

5. Gun
6. Mind Riot
7. Drawing Flies
8. Room a Thousand Years Wide
9. Kyle Petty...

12. Come Together (even though it's a remake, it still rules)
13. Seasons (maybe a whole band arrangement?)
14. an acoustic Fell on Black Days (I can hope)
15. My new favorite song off their new album

Ok, so they're not all songs that have been done...yet. But I would
like too see it happen sometime. Ok, what Soundgarden song would you
most like to see Chris perform acoustic? I'd like to hear FOBD, Mind
Riot, and 4th of July. It would be interesting to see what Chris could
do to 4th of July to make it acoustic. I think it could be done,
though. The most interesting song acoustic? I would say Cold Bitch.
Tone down the vocals a bit to suit the acoustic guitar, and maybe
rewrite some of the guitar (just a little) and it would
be...uh...weird. Well, I play it on an acoustic guitar, and it doesn't
sound too bad. Imagine what Chris could do. Wow.

Just leave them to their miserable existence and go on with your own life.
They're posers 'cause they need others to approve of them. They beat up
other people in high school so they could feel superior. Now that the
tables have turned, it seems that the best way to put them in thier place
is to just ignore them, don't give them the recognition they crave.

Sure, but it seems to me that Eddie has made several personal choices that
thrust him further into the spotlight, not away. He loves to spout his
personal views on social concerns in the middle of a concert. We all know
he is pro-choice - he wrote it on his arm in magic marker during their
MTV unplugged appearance. Showing up to the grammys and insulting the
award was a surefire way to get media attention. These types of things
push me away from his music, and are one of the reasons I'm not the PJ
fan that I was four years ago.

I don't hate preppeis either, but some of them (I'm stereotyping now,
so shoot me), in my school anyway, were the jocks (again, I'm
stereotyping) and they were the "I'm cool, I get all the women, and you
better not get in my way or I'll kick your ass" kinda people. They
treated the women like shit, but yet the girls just kept going back. I
don't understand it. But anyway, they were running on all attitude,

because I was the loser, who just happened to be different and did my

But some of them annoy me when they roll around in their Benzos and
pretend they have the right to do whatever they want, even though
they've never lived here, and they're just visiting for a week. Sorry,
but I live in a VERY tourist concentrated area, and it gets annoying.
I don't hate all the rich people, just the ones who think they can do
whatever they want since they're rich.

Now these people are the worst. I know so many people (girls

skaters and wear baggy cordouroy pants and tight weird colored shirts,
and tons of make up and chains and shit like that. And they would
NEVER even think of associating with me, or even the more radical
looking ones. But now that they've changed, they won't associate with
me now, because I'M the faker. Like they've been that way since they
were born or something. I can't stand it. It just pisses me off. And
they all of a sudden love NIN and Soundgarden, and I'M the one who
jumped on the bandwagon. Oh well, maybe someday I'll think of

To whoever sent README,

A1) You spell "jeolous" as "jealous".
B1) You spell "new" as "knew".
C1) If you knew anything about grammar (ie., spelling, run-on
sentences, etc.), or the history of PJ, or the history of Temple of the Dog,
MAYBE you would have a valid argument that people would consider believing.
Obviously, such is not the case.
        C2) To those not well-versed in PJ's history;
When Jack Irons sent Eddie the tape marked STONE GOSSARD DEMOS '91 by the
band then known as Mookie Blaylock, he wrote Mamasan. This 3-song
mini-opera included Alive, Once, and FOOTSTEPS. Two weeks later, Ament and
Gossard flew Eddie up to Seattle, where he arrived with 5 new songs,
including "Black". A week later they were renamed Pearl Jam. After a few
club dates, PJ signed with Epic Records. At the same time that they were
being signed, Temple was being recorded. Thus, "Times of Trouble" came
what?--a couple MONTHS after Eddie had already written "Footsteps" with
Stone's demo tape? Well guess what, buddy? Recorded history just blew your
little theory out of the water, didn't it?
C3) To anyone out there who is still skeptical about the seniority
of Footsteps, check out PJ on the Rockline radio show (October 1993). A
caller specifically asks which of the two songs was written first. Take a
leaping guess what Jeff Ament said. That's right!--Footsteps!! How about
that? Gee whiz--Jeff Ament. I know he's a member of the band, but I don't
know--I think he's lying. Yeah, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I
think "Times..." came first.

Yeah, right. As they say; SMOKE ANOTHER.

So I guess "the urban legend you purport as truth" is, well, WRONG.

Thanks for playing, but we'll try again later, won't we?

If you don't like Eddie/PJ/Footsteps, that's OK. Everyone has their own
opinions. But don't try to justify your tastes with contrived half-truths
(or in this case, zero-truths).

No one is claiming "Times..." sucks, so settle down there, buster.

Any other thoughts from anyone?

I've often wondered about that before... but who am I to question Chris
if he wants to run around half naked? I just count my blessings when he
does. Actually, I think he's mellowing with age, or else he's realizing that
he's kinda-in-way-but-not-really pulling an Eddie Vedder when he says he's
not a sex symbol and doesn't want to be one... but he's showing us his sexy
body anyway. Provoking people and then whining about it is not good. Not
that I would ever accuse Chris of whining, of course. Y'know... he really
doesn't take his shirt off that often anymore. Although I'm hoping that when
they play the TX date, it's gonna be so hot and humid he'll pass out if he

amen. temple of the dog is part of my dorm's vocabulary now. i've had
people threaten me that if they hear say hello 2 heaven one more time, that
i'm going to say hello to heaven.

i like the chorus to 'all your lies' as well! one other great aspect is
that 'he didn't' is in 10/8. i'll tell you, rhythmic creativity is a dying
art these days, and sg is one of the only bands keeping it alive. just
wondering, does anyone else notice that songs that are in 3 or 6 are really
easy to like right away? like seasons. i listened to it for the first
time a couple of weeks ago, and listened to it a second time right
afterwards. and a third time. cuz it's got triplets! triplets are cool!
or 'elderly woman buttering her bread and fly fishing in a small town' (i
forget the actual name) from vs. i love that song! it's got triplets.
and 'say hello 2heaven'? triplets. i think chris cornell may look at 4/4
as "been there, done that. i'm chris cornell, not spacehog. let me write
something that kicks ass." and it works *every time*.

Well, it's like when you feel good about something, or when you're good at a
sport
or music or whatever, you like to do it and play the sport in front of
people and
show them you're good...kind of an ego trip, right? CC prob just feels good
about
the shape he keeps his body in, so he doesn't mind not having a shirt on.
Plus, it gets f*cking HOT! The stage lights seem like they can melt
you sometimes.

Sorry about that.
It better be a b-side, tho. If not, I'm going to give the 4 of them the biggest

Subject: Chain letters! We don't need no steeking chain letters!

This is NOT a chain letter. One day I was sitting at my computer, with a bunch
of SG tunes rambling through my head, when a thought hit me. I realized it
was probably a great idea! It will make people infinitely happy! (well, mostly
me). and Here's what it is:
Everyone who receives this letter sends all of their Soundgarden rarities to
me. This includes bootlegs, b-sides, demos, the whole nine. Then, they
forward the letter to 20 of their closest friends, this time adding a group
of their
choice to the header. (i.e. 1. SG 2. SG & NIN for the second tier
3. SG, NIN, & Mad Season for the third tier and so on...) This way I become
the man with the largest music collection on Earth!
Okay, okay, you're probably saying "Hey Gregg, what's in it for me?"
and I say "Absolutely NOTHING! But you will feel GOOD!"
Thank you,
Gregg

(Just kidding....if you wanna send me some boots tho, feel free to tell me!) :P
