It's time to lift our kickstands and go into action people. No amount of
extra time is going to change the (almost) consensus we seem to have on
the shirt design. Looks to me like we have a short-sleeved, twisted-forked,
'16'-fonted, somms@mit.edu t-shirt in the winners envelope.

Let's get it made :)

Ok, people. I need a shirt. Come on...DECIDE!
Color? White or natural?
Design?
If someone doesn't tell me something soon, I'm gonna just pick a design
and get the damn shirts made. Ok, maybe not, but I'm bitter right now,

even collect money until I know EXACTLY what design we are gonna use.

ME>This is quite true....The whole concept of "selling out" is pure bullshit
ME>anyway...

You know, I have to agree. I don't listen to the radio, except when I
get in my car and I'm selecting a new tape to listen to, or if I'm
rewinding a tape, and I don't get MTV. So I don't know what's popular
or not. I just know that I used to hear Hootie everytime I get in my
car (because I don't put my tape in until after I start the car) and
that was annoying. I occasionally watch MTV at my school, and I always
see the same couple videos. Green Day and Alanis and a few others that
have become annoying (not that the Green Day and Alanis vids weren't
annoying in the first place). But anyway...I forgot my point.
Some people start to hate bands just because they are getting radio
play, and others love bands because of it. Just because they're
getting radio play doesn't mean they sold out. The radio changes along
with the music. Even if Sg would have made Superunknown 5 years ago,
it would never have been on the radio. I listen to what I like, and
people who listen to stuff to be cool annoy the hell outta me.

I don't think we can get long sleeves. Anyway, it will get more
expensive with the more options we throw in. If all the shirts have
the same design (which they will), and if they're all the same sleeve
length (which I think they should be, just to keep it
simple...considering I already have more than half the orders with not
one saying anything about sleeves...but DON'T start sending sleeve
length requests) then it will be MUCH less expensive than with all
these options. Ok, so it's not all these...more like, this one, but
anyway...
If you thinks it's too cold out, put on a coat and look for the other
fools with the shirt. Or else put a long sleeved shirt under it.
Geez, I sound like a mother.

Whoever started this thread, hats off.... My favorite non-musical SG moment
was during a show when Chris announced that they were giving one of their
guitars away that night, to whoever caught it! The local radio station (I
think KOME for those of you in the S.F. Bay Area) was giving away an
autographed one but Chris decided to cut out the middle man. He tossed it out
to the audience (very gently, he didn't want to hurt anyone) and naturally
alot of people went for it. A few minutes later he said something like "you
guys are still fighting for it, aren't you? Give it up! It's a piece of shit!
It was made in Korea." These guys were still fighting for it an hour later!
Favorite musical moment?? When the lights went down, curtain went up, and
Matt started rolling out the intro to JCP. Pure excitement and energy!!!

For everyone in Aust mostly :)

Ok disclaimer first cause this is a rumor and I am unable to prove it until
the next working day or later.

But what I heard...source was a friend that asked when buying tickets. So
asking the venue should give a good answer..thats why I am 50% sure this is
true.

OK all you Aussies fans :) Who is on Tour in May...no no besides SG...Red
Hot Chili Peppers.... ok well done......ok who else is on tour in May? well
I'll be if it isn't Soundgarden.....and well as rumors have it, aswell as
doing their own pure SG show, SG are backing up and doing support to the
RHCP!!!!! please note it's only what I heard...but I would not be shocked if
its true! They are both here at the same time...I assume they get along well
enough...why wouldn't the RCHP ask SG to join em for a bit??

All I can say is it'll be awesome indeed if it is true :) :) :) And I hope
everyone go RHCP tickets cause only Sydney and Melbourne so far have a 2nd
show..I think Brissy should get one...hope so. Tho i clutch my Chili pepper
tickets all the closer after today :)

bring the right clothes when ppl looked at me (I was in shorts/Docs/t-shirt)
and they had overcoats over overcoats, long pants/jeans jummpers...well you
name it :)
And then somehow we ended up in the snow...Hell I had to put TWO pairs of
shorts on. At least the Docs went well :)

am i glad I see SG in Brissy where I know it'll be take your shirt off and

Just a comment about the shirt that is getting the most votes..the fork
design I guess it's called. I do like the design on it the most...but it has
no front or back....I mean personally I would like the fork on the front and
the writting "Posting etc" and "somms@mit.edu" on the back.

I guess once the design is decided we can decided EXACTLLY what layout the
shirt will have. Or will this be too much organisation once again?

Anyone comments?

here's my vote (oh no, it's Foreshocks again) :>

shirt color: white or natural (hey, I'd love purple or something like
that, but I guess it's economically impossible).

sleeve length: short (I'd love long sleeves too, but then you couldn't
wear it in the summer, and that would also be too confusing for
whoever's making the shirts)

front: the posting with my good eye closed fork thinge

back: 'somms@mit.edu' (font 16, I voted for font 17, but I got 16 and
17 confused, so I did want 16 :>) across the back on the top of the
shirt (I hate it when there are words on my butt). If you have no idea
what I'm talking about, I'm sure you all own the Superunknown shirt.
Like in that postion on the back.)

Subject: christie and karaoke

hi,
someone posted a while ago that he/she didnt think "christie" would be in
the new album. well, in mtv latino (im in south america) one of the vjs
talked about the new album and gave some 8 new song titles that, according
to him, would be included. one of them was "christie..." (long title) and
the other one i caught was "karaoke" ("a song about all these new 'grunge'
bands that sound pretty much the same" as the vj put it). i didnt get the
other titles because i was doing something else and he said them pretty
fast, but he didnt mention "kyle petty".
about 2 weeks ago they were playing the "flower" video quite regularly on
mtv latino (i saw it 3 times in one week) so i taped it. but i guess most of
you dont get mtv latino huh?
i have been a huge soundgarden fan since 1989 when i got "louder than love".
i think LTL is, technically, the best album in music history even though my
favorite is "badmotorfinger" just because it was with me through a lot of
important things. i wouldnt be the same person i am now without
soundgarden's music.
my biggest frustration has been never getting hold of a SOMMS copy. ive only
known of 1 copy in my whole country (peru) and it was from a radio station.
i was friends with a guy that worked there and he taped it for me. but i
recently got the cdplus (thank god) and i love it. i cant wait for the new
album.

I have about 50 people on the shirt list. If you still haven't ordered
one, send me:

name
address (snail mail)
size

and then you'll be added to my list, which is the one that counts. :)

Soon I will be confirming that you ordered a shirt. You will recieve
the message you sent to me...the one with your name and all that other
stuff, so DON'T send it back to me. I will start this probably Monday.
I will let you know once again before I start so I don't get a
bazillion messages back.

On to more Soundgarden stuff!
On Motorvision, after Room a Thousand Years Wide, it looks as though
Chris is wearing glasses, and he says, "I can't see a fuckin' thing
anymore." I didn't know he wore glasses.

I also went to Philly this week, and I saw a CD in some little shop.
It was called Seattle something or other, and it had demos from a few
bands. The first two songs were Soundgarden, and they were Beyond the
Wheel (I think), and some other song I've never heard. Then it had a
bunch of Mother Love Bone songs, and then some Alice in Chains. They
were all demos. I would've loved to get it, but it was $25 and I had
$20 to get home on. If anyone has this, or has heard of it, tell us,
so I know what I'm missing.

that was awesome!! The man is a poet. Of course... he could sit there and

Ummm.... my fave SG moment would (of course) be when I touched Chris.
But other than that... I'd have to say that every concert I've ever seen
with them has been excellent. Even when they opened for <gag> GNR or
<doublegag> Skid Row. Although... yes, I'll admit it... at one time I was a
GNR fan. Although I NEVER listened to Skid Row. I think one of the most
embarassing bands I used to listen to would have to be Bon Jovi. When they

Hell if I know. I know this has nothing to do with SG... but if some of you

I agree completely. It pisses me off when people bitch about
"mainstream" bands. Of course... I guess I've been kinda guilty of it

decent band, in and of itself. But what I get mad about is how a year ago
they were playing local clubs (my fave is Trees), and very few people were
willing to shell out $3 or $5 to see them. I loved seeing 'em, though. Saw
'em every chance I got. But when they became popular... oh man... it got
waaaaay out of hand. All of the sudden they have a video on MTV, and they're
getting on the radio everywhere... and suddenly EVERYONE in Dallas is loving
them. Even my idiot friends who refused to see the Toadies at Trees, wanted
to see them in arenas!! The fucking Toadies... who couldn't even sell out a
club before they got on MTV... sold out THREE arena show here in Dallas in
December. THREE shows. And each ticket cost more than $15 bucks apiece?
THAT'S what makes me mad. Don't get me wrong... I don't begrudge them their

"Christie" and "Karaoke" are titles that seem to have been discarded
when it came down to selecting the final track list for the new
record. It's possible that these songs will appear with different
titles, but we may never know that.

In any case, the track list that I sent to the list a week or so ago
is official. You can see it for yourself at the official SG site.

I think the ideal color would be a real dark red(burgundy, crimson,
something like that). White and black are too bovious of a choice. And
besides, a dark red shirt would would help list members spot each other
easier at shows than a white/natural shirt.

My favorite SG moment?

It was during the summer tour in 1994. I was standing in the lobby of
Palmer auditorium in Davenport, Iowa, having a beer and smoking a
cigarette while Eleven finished their set. Matt and Chris were standing
outside right behind me next to the bus. A girl nearby sees them and
freaks out. She rushes to a nearby door and pleads with the guard to let
her out to get an autograph. He agrees but says he wont let her back in.
She yells to Chris to come to the door but he tells her (laughing the
whole time) that if she wants it she has to come over to him. Pissed
off, she turns and storms back in to the lobby complaining to her friends
what assholes the band is.

Oh well, I got a good laugh out of it.

I'm sorry but I feel rather irritated after reading Thursdays's digest.
Little Joe and Blind Dog, who died and left you in charge? Who in hell do you
think you are, dictating what other people should post to the list? While I
might not have the same feelings as Shroomgirl does, your posts offend me a
lot more than hers do. Your effort to suppress free speech is far,far
more offensive than any question about Chris Cornell's sex life could be.

Did you get some mail from Seth the rest of us didn't?
Mail in which you were told you could not post about anything but the music?
I thought not. This list is about Soundgarden-people can post anything they
want about Soundgarden. If it's about them it's on topic. If you don't want
to read it, don't. Last I heard, Seth was the one who decides what goes in
the digest or not. Those of you who have been complaining, you are not the
ones in control, so stop the whining. We have something called the first
amendment, remember? Someone said that the list was for the discussion of
Soundgarden's music, nothing else. Really? I don't remember Seth saying that.
Refresh my memory- perhaps it was so long ago, it just slipped my mind. Yeah,
right. I know damn well there is no such rule.

 Everyone, if you were
intimidated by what's going on, and didn't post something you wanted
to, please don't be afraid of some narrow minded souls, go ahead and
post. The wide variety of topics and responses is what makes this list
enjoyable. Shroom, you can post graphic sex fantasies about how Chris
Cornell did you doggy style and I won't complain. Because I realize,
unlike some other people who shall remain nameless, that you have as
much right as I do to post what you want. I wouldn't want you telling
me what I should or should not post, so I won't do the same to you.

Yes, they (Lolla) seem to be avoiding major markets/venues this year.
Part of it is a desire to avoid reserved seating/shed type venues,
after all the problems with bands that weren't Hole or Cypress Hill
playing in front of empty bowls while people looked on from the lawn
last summer. I don't have the Toledo TM number handy, but could look
it up if needed. Also, everyone might want to know that the Saugerties
Lolla. appearance seems to be out, at last at that venue, and that the
Jul. 15 Allentown show might actually be at a place called Atlas, about
100 miles to the NWW. All this is still tentative, of course.

I haven't seen them live either, so I guess my moments are similar to
this, except I'm usually driving in shitty late night snowy weather,
with Temple of the Dog or Fell on Black Days blasting, with me
screaming along with it.

Well said. I agree totally. You just saved me some typing.

I'd be *VERY* surprised if this is true. Touring their own album, backing
the chilli peppers, allegedly doing SNL on May 18 and getting back to do
all the Lolla dates. It would be cool, but damn unlikely.

Would you like a soap-box to stand on?
Or maybe a bill of rights to recite to us:

Or how about you just try and keep up to date. blind dog and myself
were only replying because of the way Shroom treated our neighbour,
Carolyn, on the list. Mentioning the (at best) dubious nature of
Schroom's posts was simply an aside to this.
If that sort of topic does it for you, then we are obviously operating on
very different wavelengths. I signed up to talk about the band, not to see
a thread about tongue-kissing and sex noises turn into the flaming of one
of my fellow Australian list members.

Why? Was that going to be the subject of the twenty-first message you
sent to the list today?
