seattle on friday night and see the double bill of hater and do rag.
can't say what do rag sound like, but hater will be great :) everyone on
the list who lives in seattle should go, and then we can get a bunch of
reviews on the show.

Here's something that happened to me:
(sounds like some rehab story, I know)

If you check out http://www.nextron.ch/vtour/nka49a50.html
you might see in the corner of the street a very small
music store, the name: Musik Hug. It is a swiss store
in Basel.

I was there four years ago with two guys I used to play with.
We were in Switzerland for the summer holidays. In that store
we found two CDs that we had never seen before, Temple of the
Dog and (sigh) SOMMS.

I had the money to buy ONE CD, I had to choose between an
uncommon 2-disk copy of Badmotorfinger and something that
seemed like a strange fusion between Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.
I tought that the Temple of the Dog album would be something
very hard to find in the future and that was why I bought it...

Today I rip my hair off every time I remember that episode,
that's why I'm telling it to you, fellow listees. Perhaps
you can make me feel less guilty... damn....

						URBANO

PD: If there's anyone from Basel in the list,
ist das Musik Hug oder nicht? Ich bin fast
sicher aber ich weiss nicht. :^)

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may remember back in December, I (greg@sfa.com) said I was
leaving my old job and that I would be resubscribing as soon as I got
settled in my new job...

Well, I'm settled. And my new company *finally* has Net access, so I'm
back. I know I'm kind of out of the loop right now, so mostly I'll just
sit back and read. At least for a while.

As long as I'm here, I saw the sign-up for Lollapoluza. Isn't ANYONE
planning on going to the Charleston show on July 16? I've talked to
Jamie, and I know she's going. What about the rest of you in the DC,
MD, VA area? Nothingman? Kevin? Come on guys, sign up. How many
chances do you get to see SG and Metallica on the same bill? At this
point, I'm contemplating going to the Allentown show as well. (I'll
be on vacation that week anyway, so what the hell?)

O.K., enough prodding. One more thing before I go. I hear Nothingman
is the Keeper of the Shirts. Drop me a line, Nothingman. I'd like to
hear more. Oh well, gotta go.

Greg

I have a CD single called "Outshined" that has two versions of Outshined plus
"Girl you Want", "Show Me" and "Into the Void".
It was put out by A&M Records, so you should be able to find it at any good
record store (I don't remember where I bought it).

I'll have to agreed with ShRooMGrLz@aol.com about the lyrics in Seasons.

I think it's:

"If I should be short on words and long on things to say,
could you crawl into my world and take me worlds away"

To me, he's saying "If I start babbling, come shut me up with something
that will make me really think"

The other version:

"If I could be sure of the words there are more things to
say would you crawl into my world and take these words away?"

To me, it's too "wordy" (forgive the pun). That's not like CC. Then
again, this might be saying, "If I start to sound like I know what I'm
talking about, would you come shut me up?" Maybe!!

But like I said the first one sound more like something CC would write.
The truth is we can't really know, unless CC let's us know.

Well, I heard it on a radio program here in Spain and they said that it
was the first recording of that song and it would be mixed again.

The song is a half acoustic song; the main guitar is an acoustic guitar
but it is a normal song, you know, with bass and drums playing.

The man on the radio program said that it will be the second single and
the song is a kind of "Black Hole Sun".

That's all for now! I hope this will be usefull on our waiting for the
new album. See you!!

P.D.: Sorry for my english, i'm spanish!

Yep, this is what he's saying IMO. Same concept as 'The Day
I Tried To Live'...a man who wants to reveal himself in
unfamiliar environments, struggling to break from his
self-inflicted introverted world. In 'Seasons' he's hoping
relief will come from a friend's guidance -- from a
confidant he can feel both safe and daring enough with to
explore worlds other than the internal life he's become
confined by and dependent upon. Ooh, deep.

1) i don't know about the rest of you, but i hardly believe my local
alternastation when they say *anything*. they have been wrong more than
they have been right... i'm sure you all have heard stupid rumors.
they'll do anything to get ya to listen...

2) groupies: i still think anyone should be able to post whatever they
want to the list. if you find it offensive, delete it OR mail the person
and tell them why you think they are stupid, or flame them publicly.
peer pressure works better than anything.

and yeah, shroom, dressing like a you-know-what gets ya "stuff". but is
it the kind of stuff you *want*? i dunno. maybe it is, and this is not
a judgement call, but you're not a stupid grrl and it seems to me like
you'd really like to get to *know* chris, and not just in the biblical sense.

whatever. enough. everyone's gotta live their life and love the band in
their own way.

3) home alive: i don't know how you could find the spoken word pieces
"offensive", except for the fact that they discuss abuse against women
which is unfortunately not very pleasant. but the album kicks serious
butt and *ALL* of the profits go straight to the home alive organization,
a very worthy cause.

4) bad animals: they aren't closing, just phasing out the music
production operations of the studio -- the $$ is for post-production
facilities for video and there's more demand for that (or so they say).
r.e.m. are in there now, and i think they'll be the last band to work
there. however, it looks like stone gossard's litho studios is taking up
the slack anyway...

5) seattle: yeah, i live here. email me with whatever questions you
wanted to ask...

As much I like the sound of that realize that not everyone gets MuchMusic.
Canada although being the largest country land mass wise has very little
influence popularly with the rest of the world... (c: You probably get
American networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, etc... but I get no Canadian

I'm getting at this: If any kind Canadian (or Northern American they may get
the channel) can video tape these vids next time they air (I guess they
pre-announce this type of 'event') onto a standard US (well, N. American) VHS
player tape I'd be greatly appreciative & would gladly offer audio recordings
of any Soundgarden b-sides, demos, live shows, etc. that I have in my
collection.

Subject: 'All Your Lies' lyrics

OK OK... I've decided to do my best with the lyrics to a song that're clearly
incorrect as seen at Seth's web site.

All Your Lies (Music: Thayil, Yamamoto / Lyrics: Cornell)

All your fears are lies X 4

Clipless, falling, limping, crawling,
biting, fight back from dying,
endless ending,
comprending nothing of the scent's she's sending

loosely your fighting your cheating & lying
back in mine, you're known for crying,
wrapped like a cat with my head in a sack
I feel like I'm tied to a railroad track

and all 'o your fears are lies...

{repeat the lyrics 3 times or until your voices hurts too much to go on}

This was taken mostly from the version off the Deep Six comp... it's much
clearer lyrically than the Ultramega OK version. I also used various live
cuts of it to 'check my work.' Feel free to pick this apart & do what you
can with it.

By the way... does Cornell say something like 'back in my Taquito' during the
last refrain on the Deep Six recording? I've always wondered what he was
screaming... this is the only feasible guess that possibly comes to mind...
hehe... imagine that being feasible! (c:

Hello Kate. I have been on this list since November. And, although I
was a hermit for quite some time, also... I did appreciate the "soundganja"
thing. As to the rest... you know, it's strange, but alot of the people on
the list had more of a problem with me calling them conserservative, than
with me talking about CC.

>Some of us just don't seem to be as easily impressed with rock stars as
>you are.
Hmmm... now when, praytell have I ever said that I was impressed with
anyone besides CC? I don't recall saying anything to the effect of "Golly
gee... I surely do get all excited whenever (insert various rock star) gets
on stage and shakes his bootie! Boy oh boy I can't wait to get on that tour
bus so I can get into his pants!!" Honestly Katey, dear heart... why don't
you go back and read some of your digests again? The only person I've been
drooling over is CC.

>If someone from a "rock band" (even one I liked as much as I lik
>soundgarden), invited me onto their bus to party, I probably wouldn't do
>it.
What's this? Oh man!! You know what people? I must be PSYCHIC!!! Did
not the all-powerful Shroom predict this occurence of someone NOT getting on
the bus? Wow... now I can get one of those 900 #'s. I'll beat out Dionne
Warwick yet!!! Now Katey, why would you want to be outside, where it's hot
and miserable, paying for your own beer... when you could be kicking back on
a cool and plush bus, drinking free beer and smoking weed, without having to
keep an eye out for cops? But hey... that's your prerogative.

> I HATE being looked at like a groupie, and I speak from
>experience... having met several highly visible
>bands...
I feel your pain, Kate... but personally, I could give a shit less what
people think of me. No wait... I take that back. If it's people I care
about (parents, friends), then I give a shit. But if it's just going to be a
bunch of strangers, looking at me and saying, "<click tongue> Oh my gawd...
didyoujustseethatslut? Looook at the way she's dressed!!!" , I honestly
don't care. You see, I have excellent self-esteem. Other peoples opinions
don't affect me.

>If someone invites you to their bus, especially if you're
>all hootchied up, they think of you like a groupie and they expect you to
>be very impressed with everything they say. They are GUYS. Talented
>guys. (sigh) rich guys. But, they are guys.
I repeat people... "hootchied up" is nothing more than a label for a
chic that's dressed for the elements. Well, in my case it is. Yah, I know
there's tons of girls who put on the microscopic skirts and dresses, and wait
out by the tour buses for the bands... but I don't do that. I don't own any
slinky dresses, or other "hootchie" stuff. I wear bikini tops, and shorts.
It's too fucking hot outside in the summer, especially here in TX, to wear
anything more. During the winter, I don't wear anything more prevocative
than my brother does. But I've been called a hootchie so many times... I
think it's funny as hell. So, back to my original saying... dressing like a
hootchie gets ya stuff. I didn't say I WAS a hootchie... I just said that
dressing LIKE one gets ya stuff. I don't go hang out by the buses, unless
it's a band I really like, and I want their autographs. But since I've been
classified a hootchie, I don't bother to try to change anyone's opinion,
because I don't care. I have chosen to defend myself here, though, for two
reasons. One, I do have some friends on this list whose opinions I DO care
about. And two... I'm on spring break, I have no studying left to do, and
the clubs don't open until 9pm.
Oh, and another thing... I think it's wrong that you should classify ALL
guys in bands as only wanting one thing. I've met quite a few really nice
and decent guys who aren't even interested in getting naked with every
attractive girl they see. Many of them are just happy to hang out and talk
about life, while getting drunk and high. I don't know which guys you've
met, Katey... but let me be the first to assure you that not all guys in
bands are players. So here's a piece of advice for YOU... don't be so quick
to stereotype people. Just because a girl is wearing a bikini top doesn't
mean she's a hootchie or groupie... and just because a guy is in a band, it
doesn't make him into an only-one-thing-on-his-mind, sex-driven pervert.
There's a word for people like you... prejudiced. That's a terrible way to
be, Kate.

>You KNOW what they sound
>like when they fuck (sorry squeamish readers), because you've heard it
>before.
Now THIS is funny!! Sorry to burst your bubble, Katey... but the only
band people I've had sex with are guys who've been local, and been my
boyfriends. Somehow I doubt you're going to believe this, but I've never had
sex on a tour bus. None of my boyfriend's bands have been THAT popular.
Tour VANS on the other hand... well, that's another story. But if you're
going to be so kind as to classify my ex-boyfriends as rock stars, well then
I guess you're right, I do know what they sound like when they fuck. One
more thing Katey... why are you so concerned with my sex life?

>HOWEVER, if they ask you for your number, and call you in
>LIttle Podunk, Kansas, while they are on tour in Los Angeles, then MAYBE
>they actually want to know you. Other than that, they can get it from
anyone. Who >really wants that?
Hmmm... sounds to me that someone here has has some experience in this
matter. C'mon Katey... spill your guts. Share your feelings with the group.
Well... whether you choose to or not, it doesn't matter. I've never given
my phone number to anyone in a major band, whether they asked or not. All I
want from bands are autographs, photos, and on occasion their beer and weed.
Like I said before, the only person who I'm impressed with is CC. And
before you start accusing me of thinking I have a snowball's chance in hell
with him... let me assure you that I'm already fully aware of that. But it's
not going to stop me from drooling over him. Or talking about him.

>And is that the story you really want to impress people with? For
>example, I know one chick who used to brag that she fucked Too Short.
>WHY?? I would have been more impressed to hear that she met him and they
>went bowling.
What story are you referring to? Meeting bands and hanging out with
them? Drinking and smoking with them? And who the hell is Too Short?

>Am I making sense?
     Very little.

>I'm sure you'll blow me off as some schoolgirl... but
>hold up. I find Cornell equally as fine and attractive as any other
>hetero female with hearing and sight. But I wouldn't fuck him because I
>don't know him.
Well, congratulaions!! Who ever said you had to fuck him?

>And, girl, your perversity is mild and mildly amusing.
>Talk about what you want.
Well, if I'm mild and mildly amusing, why are you freaking out so bad?
I always talk about what I want. I do what I want, I say what I want...
what can I tell you? I'm a hedonist. The world is my playground. Kate, you
need to relax more. Don't take everything so seriously!!

>The people around you will tire of it before
>you probably will. eventually you'll find someone else to like.
<sigh> Yah, well, some of them already did tire of it (go back and
re-read your digests, darlin'). I have already announced TWICE that I would
calm down my CC posts, although I won't stop with them altogether.
Eventually I'll find someone else to like? That's quite possible, but I've
been in my CC "phase" for about 6 years now.

>Just something for you to think about.
     Laugh about, you mean.

>Sorry I got all preachy... I just
>read the digests in huge lumps and certain topics just play themselves
>out really fast.
Don't worry... I forgive you. I welcome all debates, whether they're
about me personally, or about anything. Except for politics. I don't
discuss politics with strangers.

>See you at the concerts... good luck with the bands.
Hmmm... I spend most of my time in the pits. Maybe we'll bump into each
other! =)
Anyway... to recap... I'm not a groupie. I'm not saying that if CC came
up to me and said "Hey Shroom... let's get naked." I'd say no. But like I
said before... I know that's NOT going to happen. And if I ever get so lucky
as to meet him, I'm not going to proposition him or anything. So my advice

offend you for being the way I am... tough shit. Deal with it. I'm not
asking for your acceptance. And your whining about it isn't going to make me
change. But I do know who my friends are on this list. And I can respect

Hey, does anyone know what album No Attention is on. I am pretty sure

year and it kicks everyone's ass all over the place.

Subject: Can't we all just get along?

I just wanted to mention a couple things: the Chris Cornell-is-a-sex-god
thread has died, but a new thread has replaced it:
Let's-Argue-About-Your-Chris-Cornell-Fantasies, and it kinda sucks,
cause we're all Soundgarden fans, you know, and we shouldn't fight
amongst ourselves. We should all band together :> I don't know about
anyone else, but absolutely NO ONE I know personally likes Soundgarden
(they all say they do, but their cds sit and gather dust, oh well) so I
turn to somms@mit.edu when I wanna talk about just how DAMN excited I am
that the new album comes out in TWO MONTHS TODAY! and I'm gonna see em
THREE TIMES this summer!!! Woohoo!!! Now, I talk to Shroom a lot, and
I think she's the shiznit :>, and I do think Chris Cornell is attractive
(that's putting it lightly) and I didn't mind her posts at all, but it's
really nothing to get upset about. In my opinion, anyway. My theory is
if you're sick of this thread, why don't you introduce a new one?
Instead of arguing and keeping the subject hanging over the list, simply
CHANGE the subject. Make a post like "what's everyone's favorite song,"
or something like that, I know it's been discussed before, and I don't
know about anyone else, but my favorite Soundgarden song changes every
five minutes :> Right now it's "Jesus Christ Pose." I'm trying to
think of a really good question I can ask you, fellow Soundgarden
mailing list members, instead of this bickering. Sure, it keeps your
mailbox interesting :> but I for one get incredibly upset by flames,
dunno about everyone else.. Maybe I'm overreacting.... blah... Well
I'm gonna take off my "foreshocks the peacekeeper" hat and ask what
happened to that deadline for the shirts? It's tomorrow :> Are we
gonna keep tallying votes for a while or are we gonna take the votes we
have and go on that? Hmmmmmmm........ ARGHIE! I can't think of
anything! Sure, you go and try the subject, but you can't THINK of a
new subject! That's foreshocks for you :> Ok, this is kinda lame but
it's the only thing I can think of at the moment :> What's your
favorite Soundgarden moment? It can be at a show, on TV, in a song, in
an interview, anything. Mine is probably when I saw them in Rochester,
and Chris lifted up his shirt and screamed "SHOW US YOUR TITS. MALES
ONLY PLEASE." Hehe :> Course, when he ran down the bowling lane on
Headbangers Ball and kicked the pins down with his feet, that was cool
too. Ok, well I'm gonan shut up now.

My favorite soundgarden moment is probably when they were bowling during
Headbangers Ball. I like the whole show but the best part is when chris is
jumping around behind Riki Rachtman and he keeps ducking down and poking his
head up on the side of Riki. It's too great. Ok I just thought I'd mention
that.

Hi there everyone. I'm new on the list and I must say that all of
this that's going on is pretty interesting. For the record, I respect
everyone's right to say whatever they want--as long as they don't go out of
their way to make life suck for other people. Anyway, that's not the real
reason I'm writing this message.
I was first introduced to Soundgarden when I heard the song
Outshined. Naturally, I loved the song and looked into this group called
Soundgarden. One of my friends had the album Superunknown (this was around
December 1994), so I borrowed it. This has got to be one of my favorite
albums of all time. (At the moment, my favorite song is Superunknown).
Anyway, I recently got Badmotorfinger and am becoming increasingly
interested in Soundgarden. I have the songs on the Singles Soundtrack
(Seasons and Birth Ritual, right?), the Pearl Jam broadcast stuff, and
Temple of the Dog. I like what I'm hearing. My question is: What should I
get next? I think older Soundgarden stuff is a little different so I want
to know what I would probably appreciate most in light of the fact that the
majority of what I've heard is their recent material. Any suggestions?
Your help is appreciated. I like the idea of a mailing list like
this. I wonder if there is one for Pearl Jam fans (I'm a big Pearl Jam fan
as well). Anyone know? Thanks again.

with all the other pigs

One more time around
might do it
One more time around
might make it
One more time around
might do it
One more time around
The day I tried to live

And I learned I was a liar
Just like you

One more time around
One more time around

I think anyone should be able to write whatever they want to write about SG
and SG related stuff, regardless of what others on the list think. I get a
charge out of the Chris Cornell as hunk posts because where else can you talk
about that kind of thing. Unfortunately most of my friends and relatives
have not been enlightened and most barely know who SG is, so I love being
able to communicate with all of you who are so into them, no matter what
anyone chooses to write about. I really love this list and would hate to see
it ruined by petty infighting about something so stupid. If you see a post
you aren't interested in, just delete it.

A lot of bands do it. I know the Beatles used to do that. They'd
throw a party with just the Beatles and a lot of chicks that someone
affiliated with the band went out in the audience and found, and then
each Beatle would pick a few and take them back to their rooms. This
happened after just about every show. And one time, John Lennon was
nervous before a show, because he didn't have his drugs or something,
so he had someone go find him a chick, and he raped her to calm himself
down. He did that right in front of a bunch of people. What nerve.
Anyway, this is Soundgarden related because the Beatles were one of
SG's influences, although I'm sure Chris doesn't rape women.

Bang. It's ok, I'm not, too. But I annoy people with these kind of

It will be a lot sloppier than from the CD. I played the videos
through my player thingy from the CD (without starting the CD) and it
saved the video (or whatever I tried to play) to my hard drive, and
then played it. It was slower and sloppier. But you can also listen
to some of the songs that are just put on there, without having to look
at whatever it does. Like the songs from the picture gallery thing. I
think maybe these are some songs (or demos) for the new album. Doesn't
sound a lot like Soundgarden, but still does. Just like they described
the new album. Ok, that's it.

Ok, I think someone took this a little differently than I meant it. I
meant that if it weren't for our individual opinions and views on
things, there wouldn't be anything to discuss. Right? Right. We
would all hear a song, and go, "Oh yeah, it means this, and I think
it's cool." But we all have our individual opinions, so we can keep
discussing things, and often the same thing over and over again,
because another individual subscribes and starts a new thought about
it. But anyway, I didn't mean anything negative, I was just defending
everyone who has an opinion that hasn't been accepted. Well, even
people who have an opinion, which would be anybody with a brain.

But we all (maybe not all, but most) want to know EVERYTHING about
them. I know it made me think Chris was even cooler when I found out
he snowboarded. Not because snowboarding makes someone cool, but
because *I* snowboard and it's just a common interest we share. I'm
sure a gay fan loves to hear people say Chris is gay, not to be
perverted (maybe...) but because he can identify with it. I'm a
straight male, and I like it when people say he's not gay, because I
can identify with that. But anyway, I want to know the gossip, too,
but I don't want that to take over. The music is still the key...and
it should prevail over everything else, because that's why we all love
'em, right? Right!

But anyway, sorry about that earlier statement...it wasn't meant in a
bad way.

Well, the first step is getting noticed, and that would work. Know what
I mean. If I want a chick, the first thing I do is make sure she
notices me...so i do something stupid that no one else would dare do,
and she'll laugh at me or come over and tell me how stupid it was, but
it accomplished my first objective: get her to talk to me. And then
the conversation goes from "you're so stupid" to "so you like
