we've all seen this argument before: 'if you don't like what I
talk about, then just use the d button'. this is a dumb solution to a
annoying problem.

it is true that this is a soundgarden list. but it was designed
with the intention of discussing soundgarden *music*. I'm sure seth
didn't envision a stupid and too-long thread developing over what chris
cornell might sound like when he's doin' the deed when he decided to
create this list.

if you were truly interested in soundgarden shroomgirl, then you
might start talking about them as a *band*, and not as chris the sexual
entity. try talking about what songs you like instead of dreaming about
dave navarro tongue kissing chris. I don't want to start a flame war on
the list, but be sure that most of us are more interested in
soundgarden's music than their collective butt.

Not wanting to create some sort of elite south of the equator society
here, but I'm going to have to back Carolyn up on this one. Schroom you
sure did give it to her on the list. I think most of us just laughed it
off when we saw the original post about Chris and Dave Navarro
, but when it turned into chris the sex god/ sex noises/etc.../etc.., it
gets a bit beyond the joke. It's not a matter of just pressing the old
'd' button and being finished with it, but the fact remains that we are
here to talk Soundgarden the band, not Soundgarden the live sex show.

If you really liked the music before you liked the *bodies*, why don't you
put some real input into this group?

As it is it seems you really are posting with your good eye closed.

dy.
First of all, this SOMMS/@mit.edu vote is coming along smoothly, but let's
set a final date for voting for Friday March the 22 at around 9 a.m.
Greenwich Mean Time. (since that's around the time I check my mail) Within 24
hours after that, I'll post the final results to the list.

In other news . . .
I went to the local kick-ass bootleg/futon/bong shop the other day and
checked out all the SG boots they had. I almost had to be carried out on a
stretcher. For every SG ROIO I couldn't afford, there were about ten pink
floyds I also wanted. One of the coolest SG ones they had, had Chris covering
a few Ozzy tunes (with that weird double-voice, metallic thing Ozzy does),
some Superunknown demos and a couple live songs. I swear, if my finances ever
get back into black ink, I'm going straight to Seventh Heaven to spend myself
silly.

Also, I finally finished reading that Soundgarden book. It mentioned that
Sara DeBell made a CD called _Grunge Lite_. She covered several Seattle
bands' songs as easy listening tunes. Among them Rusty Cage and Hunger
Strike.

Finally, the most incredible thing I learned, at which I almost needed that
stretcher again, was that when SG played in Dallas on the last tour, they
played Mind Riot ACOUSTIC!
Ever Since I have been a fan, this is what I have dreamed about! If ANYONE
has even an awful copy of this one song, PLEASE let me know!
Anyway, if this f#$king AOL browser will finally work, I'm gonna go check out
the new stuff on the web page. (Then I'm going to download Netscape to get
the family computer out of the dark ages.)

As the thread gets even less SG related I will add my bit :) It also works
the other way...knowing Fiona Horne from DEF FX (Aust. band) She definatly
gets clear of any male groupies that try to win on, ask her out, get back
stage etc etc. But if you are just a fan and nice to her, she is very cool :)
And I agree about the slut/groupie type... it just don't work cause after
all is said whoever you wanted to meet just thinks you are a groupie/loose
chick and thinks nothing of you.... I mean whats the point, it may get you
somewhere, but not much further. My personal opinion I laugh at em and say
nice try :) I guess it depends if they have personality to back it up.

I missed one of the posts related to this message. But if you're talking

they are quicktime movies of the 40megabyte variety. Theoretically you

From: jsimpson@mail03.mitre.org (Jamesetta Simpson)

>>If it weren't for us individuals, this list would be nothing.

How dare anyone say this. The individuals that made this list never
had to talk trash. The gave us good input. We had long talks about
the meaning of songs. Our favorite songs. Encounters with bands
(never sexual). And believe it or not a few times we even said just
how great the guys look, but that was it.. The list has been here for
almost a year now and damn we are here not because of individuals who
wanted to talk only trash.

By the way, there are over 400 individuals on this list, each and
everyone one makes this list something very special. It has never
been and never will be "NOTHING".

I have listen to this sexual line of talk for several weeks now. I
kept hoping against hope that it would just die. But no such luck. I
have not post on it for a personal reason. But I won't stand by any
longer and watch something that is so good be made to look bad,
because a few people can't control themselves.

Look, I agree whole heartily with Carolyn and Toni. I think Chris is
one fine looking man, so is Ben, Kim and Matt. And I'm not afraid to
say they are great "Eye Candy". But damn, I'm sick of hearing about
some girl who may have kissed him, or that he is married to Ben. OR
someone's fantasy and obsession......

This is a mailing list for SG music, not someone's sex life. If you
want to talk about that go out off line. I've been a member of this
mailing list since day one - I became a member to talk music, tour
dates, share with other fans the good feelings this group gives me
when I hear their music. I have met great people and hope I have
started life time friendships with a few. In a few more weeks we will
have a new CD and we will have Lolla experiences to share.

So PLEASE, lets get back to the good threads that has made SOMMS the
number one mailing list on the Internet...

I have listened to TOTD alot lately.
I belive "Say hello to heaven" is one
of CC's best songs ever.
The whole album is really good not a bad
song in my belives.

On Reach Down there is a long guitar-solo
and I was thinking to my self is it
Mike and Stone that plays together or is
it just Mike playing over himself on the CD?
Did anyone on this list see them(TOTD) live?
If so how did they play it(the solo) live?

I have gone mad about the sound(in the solo)
that sounds like the world is falling apart.
I've also heard Eddie van Halen make this
sound and I'm really puzzled.
How do they do it?

If you don't know what sound I mean dig deep
down in your CD collection and pick up TOTD
put on song nr 2 and wait for 07:35.
There it is, it's not long but it's there.

If any of you know how to produce this sound
PLEASE tell me.

If you don't kown just sit back
and enjoy the _huge_ sounds and

Subject: WTD: Seattle - Wallingford District

Hey list!

First my non-SG matter:

Does anyone work or know someone that works in downtown Seattle? I need
some information about the Wallingford Business District. I know that it's
downtown. Somewhere near the University district? At least thats what the
classifieds from the _Seattle Times_ seem to say. I'm specifically looking
for someone to check the Seattle business directory (phone book) to get me
some information. Any other info is a bonus :-)

SG:

Everyone should rush out and buy the _Home Alive_ compilation! It's
extremely well put together! Even if you have the SG song (Kyle Petty),
Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd are the rhythm section to a great song by
Kristen Barry called "Joyride". Good stuff! Also, the sound of the disk is
incredible. The recording facilities in Seattle are definitely world class!

IMHO, the best song on the compilation is a cover song by Pearl Jam.
"Leaving Here". A Holland-Dozier-Holland classic. It's a great travelling
song. It also goes well with a couple Samual Adams while lounging on a
beach :-) It's got that surf feel to it.

The spoken word sections of the disk 'could' offend some people. It's
pretty graphic in it's details. But there is a "People Advisory Sticker" on
the front that sums up (rather well) why they did it. You can get detailed
information about the whole Home Alive movement by accessing:
http://www.sony.com/Music/HomeAlive or at http://www.homealive.org

BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! :-)

especially if it's only $14 bucks (2CD's) at a discount electronics store. :-)

back to the beach, um, i mean snowdrift,

This is quite true....The whole concept of "selling out" is pure bullshit
anyway...
If a band becomes popular, then they've "sold out." They're just doing what
they've always done, they can't help it if their new album is better than their
last album...that's how groups usually progress. Even though UltraOK and
LtL were
cool albums, they were by no means the best albums that SG wrote. BMF and
SuperUnknown were, which would explain why those two albums sold better.
The only time anyone really sells out is if they do a total 180. Like if
SG suddenly sounded like Yanni. Anyway, I wish for the day when some punk-asses
call me a sellout. Then I'd remind them that I had enough money to secure my
future by playing the music that I love. Motherfukers.

Time to add my .10, anyway sg themselves feel like appearing on snl would
be selling out. I think what they mean is that the producers of snl want
them to tone down they're act some. Remember that this album is supposed
to be more raw and unpolished then previous ones. Secondly, can you see sg
performing a song like "Beyond the wheel", or "4th of july" on snl? I
don't think that would fall into they're whole cheesy entertainment motif.

My thoughts on the t-shirt:

1. If we're going to put "Posting with my/our good eye closed" It should be
"my good eye" not "our good eye" As someone, I think Geoff, pointed out, we
cannot collectively have one big eye. Although that might be an interesting
starting point for a song, book, etc. What would we see with our one
big eye? But I digress. Personally, I thought the quote
from Kim was better-"Damn right I'm argumentative." But if everyone wants the
one about posting, who am I to say no?

2. Color-natural is definitely a good idea. It's not the ordinary boring
white, but it's light enough to let what we put on it show up.

from what we have heard, it doesn't look like christie is going to
be on the new record. and ty cobb is probably also out, what with the
chorus of 'I'm hard headed, fuck you all'. but I did hear from a record

showed the track listing to on of the counter staff at our beloved skinnys
music store, and the girl behind the counter with the soundgarden tattoo
said that pretty noose was the one.

as for snl, my guess is that they will play two songs from the
new album, probably the first single and something else that they want to
roadtest. btw, I'm not sure that the title of the new one is as good as

Hi Shroom, I'm Kate. I don't believe we've met. Before you got here, I
introduced the term "soundganja". From the trailer you have on your
posts, it appears you are a partaker also. I'm telling you this for a
purpose:
the people who might have a problem with your hormonal homage to cornell
aren't necessarily all "conservative" (your word).

Some of us just don't seem to be as easily impressed with rock stars as
you are.

If someone from a "rock band" (even one I liked as much as I lik
soundgarden), invited me onto their bus to party, I probably wouldn't do
it. I HATE being looked at like a groupie, and I speak from
experience... having met several highly visible
bands... If someone invites you to their bus, especially if you're
all hootchied up, they think of you like a groupie and they expect you to
be very impressed with everything they say. They are GUYS. Talented
guys. (sigh) rich guys. But, they are guys. You KNOW what they sound
like when they fuck (sorry squeamish readers), because you've heard it
before. HOWEVER, if they ask you for your number, and call you in
LIttle Podunk, Kansas, while they are on tour in Los Angeles, then MAYBE
they actually want to know you. Other than that, they can get it from anyone. Who really wants that?
And is that the story you really want to impress people with? For
example, I know one chick who used to brag that she fucked Too Short.
WHY?? I would have been more impressed to hear that she met him and they
went bowling.

Am I making sense? I'm sure you'll blow me off as some schoolgirl... but
hold up. I find Cornell equally as fine and attractive as any other
hetero female with hearing and sight. But I wouldn't fuck him because I
don't know him. And, girl, your perversity is mild and mildly amusing.
Talk about what you want. The people around you will tire of it before
you probably will. eventually you'll find someone else to like.

Just something for you to think about. Sorry I got all preachy... I just
read the digests in huge lumps and certain topics just play themselves
out really fast.

See you at the concerts... good luck with the bands.

avail), JCP (I bet they will now... ever seen half of the scary crap on there
now?), etc but that seems a) impossible b) unrealistic & c) -add your
reason/s-. We need somehow to get a vid available... I'm not sure if sgkots
would offer anything like this... but imagine this: they must have all the
vids somewhere... tapes cost about oh... what $1.00 American, and they're
designed to aid fans as fans. I'd freakin' pay $30 for all 10-12 vids
they've made! (OK... I'm getting light-head, dizzy & upset.)

Now if any of you wonderful people out there have any ideas on how to help
organize my little idea feel free to speak out... either to the list or me
personally. I feel this is a worthy cause... definately something worth
fighting for.

Wow... I think I know how all those politicans feel...

Subject: EVEN MORE POETRY FROM SLOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!

Hello This is sloth again with today's poetry,
For Mayor McCheese who didn't like the last one,
Just because it wasn't about soundgarden, here is
another one about SOUNDGARDEN.

SOUND>

noise reverberates off the walls,
The shrill voice is drowned out,
by incessant feedback.
Every band starts somewhere.

With a name like noise and plants combined,
How could this Seattle band be found?
With dreams in their lives
And hearts aflame with musical hopes.

Then one day they struck a deal,
Subpop records filled the hole.
Thier album went well unknown,
But for now they at least had thier music.

Next a man from A&M heard them play,
He thought they were great.
He signed them up with a deal,
to make albums for real.

The band began to record thier songs,
Played guitars and smoked thier bongs.
Thier first A&M album sold a little more,
than thier last attempt.

Not enough to please the band,
They set off to tour the land.
They generated revenue,
and made many people fans.

Their second album went huge,
All the waiting paid off,
Badmotorfinger was it's name,
And it was dubbed a fortune.

With the band at it's peak,
They decided to break from the underground,
Into the SUPERUNKNOWN.
With hits like Limo and Black hole Sun
How could they go wrong.

This is the band I'll always love,
Untill the downfall of thier reign.
I'll stand by these men,
These men of SOUNDGARDEN,
Untill the world ends
