I really think we should have 'somms@mit.edu' on the shirt. How
mysterious is it to have just SOMMS on there? Any real fan is just going
to think some guy has made a cheap rip-off t-shirt of the e.p somms, and
any non-fan isn't going to care enough to ask. If we have the full
address on there people are going to want to know what it's all about.
That to me has more mystery.

After all it is supposed to be the
mailing list t-shirt, shouldn't we have something that defines it as such?

Blind dog and myself have been thinking about turning part of our
obscure, distant and rarely-visited homepage into a Soundgarden boot
trading centre. It seems lots of us have plenty of cool shows on tape and
it would be good to get together some sort of a framework for seeing
what's out there and knowing who you can trade it off.

Anyone who might be interested, post and tell us. It should be very
simple to set up.

Now I feel really depressed... I always related sex to a Bad
Religion-style.... not too flamboyant (simple... 4/4 measures... no key
changes), sorta rhythmically 'thumpy' (high hat on 1, 2, 3 & 4 with
snare/bass on 1), no wild stuff (no solos please!) , loud & 'moany' (big
chords/drums & all the 'ohh ahh'ing from the other band members) yet

Hey all! HAppy Monday!

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth about this supposed Matt Cameron
message on our lsit. It's HIGHLY dubious that it's our Matt the
drummer. Good journalists that we're trying to be, Lin and I
double-checked some things....which consisted of calling Guitar World
journalist and Sg friend Jeff Gilbert and running the message by him.
He was laughing his butt off. Matt and Chris are in LA mastering the
new album...ie, Matt's not in Seattle now. He does know computers,
according to Jeff and does surf the Net. Concrete Foundations or
whatever that is released song titles already--Jeff is to email me a
list as well, which I'll post as soon as I get it! And we'll be seeing
Hater on 3/22 at the OK in Seattle...so I'll just ask Matt myself! And
any photos I take I'll send to Seth to scan for his page!

Ok... I know this really isn't worth posting, but for some odd reason I
feel like protecting my already questionable reputation on the list. For the
record... the previous statement attributed to me was a post that I found on
the Soundgarden newsgroup. It wasn't even from an AOL subscriber. I don't
know how many of you kiddies subscribe to the SG newsgroup, but it can be
pretty entertaining. Although not quite as much so and the NIN newsgroup, or
the Pearl Jam newsgroup. It seems alot of people think that Eddie Vedder was
on coke when he attended the Grammy's recently. I don't know why I'm telling
all of you this. Anyway... I'm going to go back to bed, as I am officially
on spring break, and have absolutely no use for consciousness at the moment.
In fact... I'm probably not even coherent right now. Oh well... <kisskiss>

Web-based voting system for the shirt. There's a link to it from the

and make selections for the shirt design, sleeve length, text, and
font, and then hit "VOTE!" to submit your vote. You will then be shown
the current voting totals. For those who just want to see the current

So what info do you have that suggests that it isn't from Matt? There's
nothing in the message that suggests that it isn't from him. Nothing you
mentioned, deb, contradicts what "Matt" said. Just because Chris and
Matt are in LA mastering the album does not mean he did not send a
message. You know of course that you can send email from anywhere in the
world. The message did not even mention Seattle. If anything, Matt
might be more likely to be browsing the web in LA; since it is not his
home, he would be more likely to be bored. Anyway, I am going to reserve
judgement until there is more info. Many of us would like to believe
that the band is watching and approving, and the rest are afraid of being
a fool. The message is highly ambiguous. Of course anyone can claim he
is Matt, but so far we have no proof that he is NOT, (ie. errors, flaws,
fallacies) unless someone has some other info. Later...

Hello!
I am a Spanish Soundgarden Fan and I have some questions:

I read on a musical magazine that the band made new songs for the
Superunknown album and I wonder what happened with the rest of the
songs that they didn't use for BMF. I mean, maybe these songs are
as good as those which were included on the BMF album. Are these
songs lost or have they appeared as b-sides or something?
I know that the band wanted to do new things, and they didn't want
Superunknown to be the BMF second part, but it would be interesting
to have all these lost songs on a compilation album, like Smashing
Pumpkins did on Pisces Iscariot.

Secondly, I'd like to know which are the effect pedals that Kim Thayil
uses on songs like Outshined and the BMF in general.

What do you think about the differences between BMF and Superunknown?
I think that the songs they are doing lately are a bit more "commercial"
that those great songs on the BMF.
Of course, the new songs are excellent too and I love them but nowadays
it would be imposible to hear a song like Jesus Christ Pose on the new
album. Anyway, forget that, God save Soundgarden!

P.D.: I've heard a song of the new album called "Burden in my hand"; it's
GREAT!!!

Soundgarden has turned down an appearance on Saturday Night Live! They
feel it's all wrong for them, they're too heavy a band and they wioll
not sell out like that.

Anyone want to bet that PJ will sell out and do SNL again???

Well, I'm at least one female on the list who is not a potential
sg groupie. They're my favorite band and no doubt chris is hot but
that would just ruin it. I'm not sure if I'd even want to meet chris. I'd
sure like to see him up close, but the only thing I'd get out of
meeting him is just being able to say I met him. What is there to say
that he hasn't already heard? Damn, I'm getting pessimistic.
If I were a guy on this list, I could probably do without all of the
chris fantasies. Damn, I'm a female and I could do without them. I can
never get a guy to admit to having fantasies about him, but I'm quite
sure it happens.
So I'm just going to say one thing and then I'll shut up (tee hee). That part
in Louder than Live during "I awake" (I think) where its all blurry and chris
is down on his knees and rolling all over the floor at the end of the song,
and he's singing "remember... I love you, love you".. oh god...

I dont get you.
Is sell out equal to appearing at SNL?
If so, why? I mean it's a great show(sometimes)
and I dont think Sone Temple Pilots was selling
out when appearing at the show.
It depends on how they act, and playing some
songs on TV is not to sell out.
I would have loved Soundgarden at SNL.

It's really great that someone brought up the topic of musicians and sex,
because I as well find it uncannily sexy when a musician of any sorts is
really into what they are doing. I'm a musician myself...I play a
variety of instruments in a lot of different things from orchestras to
jazz bands to my own rock group (where I play bass) and brass
quintets...the feeling that one gets, at least in my little world, when
involved in a musically intense situation, totally parallels a great
orgasm. There's nothing like completely losing yourself to a song.
Well, there's my 2 cents. And, I also agree with Shroom. Soundgarden is

I was under the impression that the term 'selling out' referred to
changing one's sound for money. ie. Large record companies saying "We'll
give you so much money if you make an album like we say". In other
words, compromising artistic integrity just to make money. I think
anybody who knows anything about Soundgarden, knows that they will never
do that. In many interviews, the band states that they always wanted to
make money making music THEY enjoyed, and that was what they were doing.
Making a public appearance does not constitute selling out, unless you
change your lyrics or compromise in any other way. I can't think of any
songs Soundgarden have done which compromised anything. All the hair
frarmers sang all these sexual innuendo-filled songs in the 80's, and SG
came out and said "I'm gonna fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, you...". The song
was basically pointing at them and laughing, but still - no compromise.
Soundgarden has maintained from the beginning that they would never
compromise, and maintain to this day that they will never compromise. EOT

I will make two comments first:

1. I see that sometimes people quote "Posting With Our Good Eye

2. I've just checked out the web page to look at the fonts Seth has

But that aside, I agree with you, Deb. I'm getting to the stage of not

I get your point here, Chicka. What's good for the goose should also be
good for the gander. - or should that be the other way around? :-)

As for a female reaction, here's mine: Firstly, I don't particularly mind
some sexist comments. Hey, I'm female, and I like to be paid a compliment!
:-) And secondly, I like admiring men's looks. There would be nothing
worse than to not have any guys to perve on! BUT I would just like to let
you know that while Shroom might have lots of support from some females on
this mailing list (she mentioned that there are lots of other Chris perverts
who have emailed her), that not ALL of us are so obsessed.

Isn't such obsessive talk the kind of stuff we giggled about when going
through puberty? I like to think I'm past all that! :-) I would much
rather read posts to the list about non-such-Chris-worshipping-childish
topics.

As for fonts, I like the one that looks like the plastic label-maker

way. Otherwise it is not differentiated from the e.p. named somms. And

Um i hate to bring up this who looks like Christ debate again, but i have
to say that i was watching Sam Beckett's film "Film" today in drama class
and there was
a picture on the wall with big eyes, long black hair and a long black
beard. The nail that held the picture threw the wall was through the
characters forehead. I said "It's Kim Thayil!" as soon as i saw the
picture. Later on, our teacher told us that this picture was sposed to
represent christ as well as some figure in the eastern religion
zoroasterinism., or however you spell it. -j

Is it just me, or does this song have the most inherently frightening
riff i've ever heard? It's slow, but it doesn't make me feel sappy, it
scares me. Even when i'm the one playing it. Anyone else know what i
mean? Also, it seems to me that playing sg's music on guitar is unlike
playing any other bands songs. It seems like sg's songs flow together,
and the next part of the song springs from the part before. When i play
other band's music, it seems like their songs are just pieces slapped
together that happen to fit. Well, maybe i'm hallucinating right now,
but this is what it seems like to me. -j

Yeah, they'd already soldout beforehand. -j

hmmm.... i have to agree, i know what you mean about the songs flowing
together, it's like every time one part finishes, the next part has already
begun and you are just...i dunno, magic i guess. especially in FoBD. cold
bitch gives me the creeps. okay, this is VERY controversial but i have to
say it.... the only other band i've heard that does the flowy thing is [this
is gonna be scary] hole... [NOT even comparing them to SG in any way] i just
think that a lot of the songs on Live Through This and a few on Pretty on
the Inside and Beautiful Son sound like they have that same thing going....
okay, let the flames begin!

Well... at the risk of further ridicule and flames from some of you
people... I'm going to post something else I found on a newsgroup. The NIN
newsgroup, to be exact. ATTENTION ALL AOL-HATERS: THIS DID NOT COME FROM
AOL. IT CAME FROM THE NIN NEWSGROUP. Sorry, 'bout that, but it seems that
there's a bunch of people out there who despise AOL. I personally don't care
where people get their posts from, but I thought I'd announce that it was
newsgroup related, anyway. Ok... back to the post... I guess some chic wrote
in to it, and requested that someone send her Trent Reznor's e-mail address.
This person wrote back, and expained to her how it would be impossible for
just anyone to get Trent's e-mail address. But the person was so kind as to
list two different ways to go about getting Trent's address. I suppose this
would work for Soundgarden, just as well. Not, of course, that I'm
suggesting it. But the post was funny as hell. Here's an excerpt:

>so, with that in mind, I have developped two idiot proof methods of
>extracting the info out of our very own Rez-toy.

>method one - the socially acceptable method.

>step 1: go to all shows which feature those Nails of 9" in length

>step 3: see if you can be that one in 6 trillion drop-in-a-bucket who
>actually makes person-to-feces contact with the man himself.

>step 4: talk to Trent

>step 5: become his best friend (disclaimer - Bloodynuckles Inc. will not
>be held personally responsible if this step is found to be impossible due
>to personal idiocy and incompatibility)

>step 6: ask him for the address

>Method #2 (the non-socially acceptable method)

>step 1: repeat steps 1-3 in method #1

>step 2: when you see Big Daddy Trent, immediately pull out your trusty
>semi-automatic Uzi, and blow the brains out of all security looking
>personnel on the premises.

>step 3: tackle Trent to the ground, pull out your knife, and threaten to
>slice off his phlanges one by one until he tells you his e-mail address.

>WARNING: it is not guaranteed that Trent will wish to correspond with you
>after you have used this method.

>good luck, and happy e-mailing!!!!

Ummm... just thought I'd share that with y'all. You're welcome. BTW...
how many Matt impersonators do we have e-mailing the list currently? I know
it's a long shot, but I wouldn't be a damned bit surprised if the real Matt
is e-mailing us. In fact, I'd say it was about time someone from the band
acknowledged
our presence(s), and Seth's excellent web page. Although that first "Matt"
letter was kind of simplistic. I'd like to think that the real Matt would be
a little more articulate than that. Well, it's something to think about.

Subject: A Kick Ass Poem

This is a poem about Chris that I wrote for fun:

He's a guitar genius,
A voice straining great.
He stands alone as one who's known,
The fame that lies in wait.

His band Plays on with heart,
The drummer drums with speed.
His world is torn apart,
By fame, fortune and greed.

His fans all chant the tunes,
That go down in history.
They surf the pit like wild baboons,
They shout with love and glee.

His identity erased,
By the need to rebel.
To ever change to stay the same,
His name is Chris Cornell.

If you liked the poem, please feel free to give me some feedback.
