We could have a problem if Nothingman is sending out the shirts.
Compulsive poster as he is he'll send eight copies of the shirt to the
first few people and everyone else will miss out.

You must be psychic or something!! I was just going to ask if anyone on the
list has read it yet. I picked it up last year, and it was a decent read.
Not very great information wise, though (for a die-hard SG fan, that is.)
Really the only thing I got out of it was that I was right about Bruce
Pavitt being on the video date thingy in the movie "Singles". But if you
don't know a whole hell of alot about SG, it's a goldmine.

Sorry, but I have to back Jamie on this one! The Presidents are way
cool to see live and after seeing them at Pain in the Grass this
summer, I got the CD and enjoy it when I want a happy, good-time
listen! These guys play a 2-string bass and a 3 string guitar! Wasn't
at all sure I'd like them live, but I'm so glad I saw them! So, Adam,
have you seen them live yet?? Sure, their music may seem "fluffy" next
to Sgarden, but I can't say they lick the floor! They have to be seen
to be believed! IMHO!

so, does anyone in Seattle know where Spoonman hangs out, and if they

I'd like to say thanx to the wonderful people who loved my idea at
Mercyhurst. I'm from around Meadville if that means anything to you.
My cash flow isn't the greatest so I'm looking at NRM or
Flipside(used records) for all my music. I proposed this project so
that when I have some funding I can get Soundgarden rarities instead
of some bands new album I've never heard of that can't even be
compared to Soundgarden.

I have no access to getting shirts made but would be willing to help with
money collection since I have a secure mail box in that the mailperson has
to slide it right through the door into the house. Where my ugly big eared
brown dog awaits snarling!! I also live close to my bank to do whatever
transactions need to be made. I also could help with the mailing (although
I live no where near Maryland and Nothingman) Should we also set up a
voting address if everyone has sent in whatever designs they intend to
send. I could also do that if necessary. Let's get this thing rolling so
we all can look stylishly Soundgarden! T

Subject: tori and sg...

here's an interesting concept that bludgeoned its way into my
pea-brain last night...

i dug up some old dub tapes of mine and was listening to 'em...a bunch
of timeless classics, y'know: husker du, pixies, replacements,
etc...when i stumbled across tori amos' version of "smells like teen
spirit."

first of all, how many of you have heard this? i don't know how many
tori fans are on this list, but i myself am a HUGE admirer of her and
her music, and this song just epitomizes her versatility. (pick it up
if you can...i think it can be found on the "crucify" ep...)

ANYWAY...my point: wouldn't tori sound fantastic covering sg? i'm
thinking in particular: fell on black days, like suicide, mind riot,
possibly chris's seasons (hmmm...i'm trying to visualize older
tunes in a piano format but i'm having a hard time thinking of
anything that would work...gun? loud love? sheesh, that would be
interesting...heh heh, how 'bout beyond the wheel? :) ) all of these
are more "chord-oriented "tunes that i think would lend themselves nicely
to a little creative progression work by tori. hell, she took "teen spirit"
to a whole new level, and that's a song that wasn't exactly written for
the piano. :)

any thoughts? damn, i'd better get back to work since i'm on the
clock here...university employment is the best thing since twisted
forks. :)

later...

I don't have a clue, but sometimes I wear those little ball chain
thingies on my wrists just for the hell of it. In fact, I wore them
for two years without taking them off (ooo, gross!). Now my left wrist
is much smaller than my right. Maybe he's wearing them just for the
hell of it. Probably wearing them so we'll ask. I've seen some other
guitar players wear them, too, so maybe it has something to do with
that.

I thought they looked like...uhh..when you rip the bottom edge off of a
shirt, and it kinda curls some. I think it looks like that. I did see
it tied somewhere once, but it definately wasn't leather. The knot was
to small to be leather.

And the best thing is the next line but I don't want to ruin the
kick if you don't want to.
I would love to hear your interpretation of the statement.

Hey everyone out there,
I found the Soundgarden book that Ben spoke of, and I've been
reading it, and I'd love to hear what some of you think of it. I'm a
little disappointed myself. First, the publisher accidentaly put approx. 30
pages of another novel in the middle of the book where the part about the
"Louder than Love" recording/touring is supposed to be! Also, it read to
me like a bad Rolling Stone article, by someone who maybe didn't really
know Soundgarden but figured if they used enough catchy rock journalism
lingo it would sell copies. I shelled out $12 for that book and I don't
feel I know any more about Soundgarden than after I checked out Seth's
site. And there's no info on the new record, sad to say.
I can't believe I'm going to be in Europe the summer SG does
another Lolla tour!!!!

Read: "Seth's site" reads like a bad Rolling Stone article. I figure
if I use enough catchy rock journalism people will visit.

Actually I think they're not so 'fluffy'. TPOUS are a band with a
sound very of their own. Sure, they're very VERY influenced by Primus
but what the heck, every band has theyir own influences. I bought the CD
because Carolyn and Jamie said it was cool and it is. And...

Uhh... I think since Kim played with them, it makes the same sense to
talk about them as to talk about AIC's SAP or Hater or other bands
alike.

Well, there's this band named Soundgarden, and they wrote this song,
which started as a joke for a movie called Singles. The song was called
Spoonman, and it is loosely based on a guy in Seattle named Artis (the
spoonman) He is called this because he plays the spoons really well.
The song was released on Soundgarden's album Superunknown. I hope this
clears it up for you.

Could someone please tell me the names of the mother love bone albums out
there? I have the double CD set with capricorn sister and some other song
on the second cd. One of them is called the "shine version" I think. The
other cd has 17 songs on it and a medley of chloe dancer/crown of thorns.
Does this album have all the songs from the other albums.

meant to say was, that I found your site interesting and informative, and
I found the book like a bad Rolling Stone article. I really didn't mean
to cause any offense. I love the site and I love the list.
Sorry!

Subject: Vedder, The Long Road

Kate Mercier, where are you? Some time ago (the morning after, in fact)
Kate told me about Eddie Vedder appearing at the end of the Letterman show.
She described it all so well. She is the perfect person to enlighten you
(whoever it was who asked the original question recently) on what happened
that night.

While we're speaking of things Vedderish, has the OTHER version of The Long
Road (with the Pakistani guy singing - well, wailing like a cat that's had
its tail trodden on is more accurate) been getting a sickening amount of
airplay in other countries? Or is it just us (Australians) who have to put
up with it? I bought the Merkin Ball CD - with I Got ID and The Long Road
on it, and love both songs. But now this damn other version is thrashed so
much...........I'm beginning to dislike The Long Road. I believe this other
version (with the Pakistani) is from the soundtrack to a movie. Just out of
interest, which version gets played more in the States?

Oh, and to get us back on the Soundgarden track - Sunday night on the radio
(Triple J) something was announced that I've known for a while now, thanks
to this mailing list. That SG's new album is going to be very different
from Superunknown, that it will have a very raw & unpolished sound, and that
it will be released on 21 May. Isn't it nice to know we get to find out
this sort of information earlier than the rest of the world?! :-)

It's worth pretty much what you can get it for. Not many people know
that it is a rarer find. I paid $15 from a so-called record collector.
Obviously the guy didn't know what the hell it was, otherwise he
would/could/should have charged more. After all they were selling the
Superunknown singles box for $25 there(worth $6.99US retail). My self, I
was willing to pay $30-$40 in excellent condition. Supposedly it goes
for over $75 in and around Seattle.
