AAAAUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!! Just like everyone else, I bought the soundtrack
to SFW when it was released ('cuz of the CC acoustic number). But believe it
or not, I've never seen the movie until tonight. The intro is the coolest
ever!! It's the first time I've ever sat through the credits for a rented
movie. I like the way they did it. It reminded me of the video for Jesus
Christ Pose, except no Chris Cornell running around half naked. But you
wanna know what really pissed me off? When that guy grabbed that awesome SG
poster off the wall, and smashed it over his head. What a waste of a groovy
poster that would have fit on my wall so perfectly!!! And I like the way
they showed part of the vid for JCP. Ok... I'm through babbling. The movie
was good. Thank yew.... thank yew...

When I first hear Half, I didn't like it a whole lot. I liked the

My lips are shakin'
My nails are bit off
Been a month since I've heard myself talk
Only advantage this life's got on me
Picture a cup in the middle of the sea

And I fought back in my mind...
Never lets me be right...
I got memories
I got shit
So much it don't show it...

Oh, I walked the line...
When you held me in the night
Oh, I walked the line...
When you held my hand and cried

On empty shells seem so easy to grab
Got all these questions, don't know who I could even ask
So I'll just lie alone and wait for the dream
That I'm not ugly and your lookin' at me

And I sent you to bed...
Oh, in a little while I'll see now
If just once I could feel love...
Oh, stare back at me.

Oh, I walked the line...
When you held me in the night
Oh, I walked the line...
When you held my hand at night
Oh, I walked the line....
When you held me close at night.
I paid the price...
Never held you in the right

My lips are shakin.......

Yes it's true, Eddie Van showed up for a few minutes...
If you watch Letterman at all, you'll notice that Paul and Co. frequently
play PJ songs; especially Black.
Anyway, Dave says lets get this done right, and out strolls Eddie!
He sang Black for a few, then walked off. Dave asked why the heck he just
left. So, Eddie walks back in, shakes Dave's hand and leaves again.
It was rumored that he was in town for the last Ramones show (besides Lolla)
That's my version at least...

Eehhhh....I don't know about that. I'd say that the "we" in the song are the
voices in your head...your mind, soul, religion, anything that is a part of
you. With all of these things weighting you down and making you choose these
huge moral decisions and scary thoughts arising if you do something bad,
it's easy to lose track, get depressed, and most of all, put your head down.

Head high... got to smile is more of an "Ignore what puts you down. Get rid

That song is called "Endless, Nameless" and no, it's not very rare. They've
performed it at a few concerts, but decided it wasn't worthy of an entire
track in it's name. So, hey, there you go. If your Nevermind CD DOESN'T have
it...it's worth more, actually. The ones w/o are the earliest releases.

Well..he can speak for me anyday. I'd have to say that Half is just Ben
trying something new. It's experimental. If you're trying to say that the
band is experimental, well then yeah, it epitomizes the entire band and
album. That's not Ben's best work, that's not the best song on Superunknown,
that's not the best Soundgarden song. I don't care about your opinion there,
and rarely do I say this, but if you think Half is their best song then
you're very wrong.

Half is a song that they tried something new with, but they didn't
experiment with new sound, new percussion, anything that makes a song great.
I bet Kim didn't even break a SWEAT while playing that song. If you want to
say there's a song that epitomizes Superunknown...it's Superunknown. I don't
think you can label the band to any song at all. No...you can't.

If you want to label them to something, I'd say Earache My Eye is
better...or maybe Into The Void.

Last night I was bored because I should have been studying before I went to
this party. So, I dug up a fork I had "borrowed" from the food service here
and a pair of pliers and made my own 'Chris Cornell fork.' IT RULES. People
were asking me all night what it was for and what it meant. I of course
answered with glee, "The end of all humanity and mankind as we know it."
I based its design on the fork Chris is wearing on the cover of this book I
just picked up. I'm sure most of you have seen it or have it. It's called
Soundgarden: New Metal Crown, by Chris Nickson (218 pgs, $10.95 US/$15.99
Can., St. Martin's Griffin). It has a pretty good discog. I haven't
finished it yet, so I don't know how much info on the new album is in
there. Its copyright date is 1995, so probably not much.

Have we decided on a t-shirt design yet?

something yet? Don't forget this list is just so we know who wants a shirt
& what size they want. We have yet to decide who is going to organise the
printing of these shirts, and how we're going to collect money for them, etc.

Get your thinking caps on, everyone! :-)

NEWSFLASH: Just read Nothingman's generous offer for getting the t-shirts
made. Nothingman, I think we could all kiss you! (Shroom, you'd be in
that, wouldn't ya?! better give him a triple <kisskisskiss> rather than
your usual double, next time you write) :-)

I for one think the off-white colour (natural as many have suggested) would
be fine. Comments, anyone???? I say if Nothingman is prepared to collect
money, that we take him up on his offer! Below are the list of who wants a
shirt - check the list, make sure it's right, and then I can email
Nothingman with the final numbers. Then we can GET TO IT!!

Subject: Re: Soundgarden Digest, Friday, 8 Mar 1996

I have to majorly disagree with you people who are trying to get all
these masturbation references out of sg's lyrics. Now, first of all,
i've always thought of kickstand as this song that basically parodies all
the bands like aerosmith. Not musically, mind you, but lyrically.
"Come stand me up"
Could be taken two ways:
1) whoever is being spoken to is needed to help the speaker back on to
his feet
2) give me an erection.
"I go the words to come together"
A cheap ploy to get whoever the speaker is talking to to come over or
something.
"I got the urge to rid your trike"
Let's have sex.
and the rest of the song to me basically just sounds like the speaker is
trying to convince someone to have sex with him, except for this line:
"My mother says that it's alright."
Which i take to mean this: "Ok, let's accept this blatantly physical kind
of love, because that's what everyone's done in the past and this
standard will allow me to have sex with you."

But maybe i'm seeing too much into it.

And, what the hell does the word SUN have to do with masturbation?

"Damn right, i'm argumentative" -Kim Thayil

Subject: list stuff
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

Just wanted to keep everyone informed...

The list once again has more than 400 subscribers. I expect that it
will get much larger when the new album is released, but by that time
we will hopefully be using...

Listserv! I found out that Listserv now runs under Win95, which means
I can run it off of my computer. For those of you who have never
participated in a Listserv-maintained mailing list, there are really
cool features like:

- - you can subscribe and unsubscribe yourself at will
- - you can put your account on hold if you're going on vacation
- - digest compilation and distribution is automatic
- - you can switch between individual messages or the digest by yourself
- - troublesome people can be prevented from subscribing and posting
- - bad addresses ("host unknown," "no such user") are automatically deleted
- - you can retrieve files (e.g., the FAQ) via listserv commands

And of course, there are a million other features that will make the
list run more smoothly and reduce errors caused by my bumbling. It's
COOL.

Anyway, I anticipate leaving the list the way it is for now, until I
get some time (setting this up is going to be a decent amount of work,
and I want it to run smoothly on the first shot), which probably won't
be for a couple of months. Hopefully, I'll deal with it before the new
album comes out, so new subscribers and old subscribers who want to
leave because there are suddenly 150 messages every day can help
themselves. I also need to have a bake sale so I can buy this software
(did you think this was freeware?)... anyone like fruitcake? :)

Yes and Yes. Exit St. he is just singing like one of those deth metal
hosers and on Kyle Petty it sounds like they ran it through an amp with
the reverb cranked up and some other shit done to it. My friend showed
me how to do it so it sounds tinny (like it's coming through the radio or
something) but i forgot how.

What the hell good is a SOMMS CD in a sealed long box anyway? Unless
your one of those collector types who ruin things that are fun and turn
them into a business (i.e. baseball cards...used to love 'em, but then i
couldn't afford 'em!)
Gregg

give it to someone who will play it and appreciate it

Subject: shirts - updating again

I just remembered I had a headache last week. It's gone now but it must
have taken a few of my brain cells with it.

Firstly, Jamesetta offered to have our t-shirts made some time ago.

Then Urbano suggested them being done in Mexico.

And just recently Nothingman offered us his time & willingness.

So what will it be, folks? Which of you three still wants to take on this
huge task?? Can perhaps two (or more) people do it to lessen the workload?
Say, one person give his/her address for us to send in our money/money
orders to, and the other person organise the puchasing and printing of the
t-shirts?? Many hands make light work, so they say.

Don't mind me, I'm just a bit behind the times down here...........

picture this, how about Chris and Weiland together? Pretty good, huh?

BT>answered with glee, "The end of all humanity and mankind as we know it."

I made one about two or three years ago (the big bad THC monster made
me not remember), and I've been wearing it everyday since. People
don't know me without it. And when they asked me what it meant, I
said, "I dunno." because I didn't. Now they all know it's from Chris
Cornell, or at least know it has something to do with Chris Cornell.

BT>I based its design on the fork Chris is wearing on the cover of this book I
BT>just picked up.

I based mine on the one he's wearing in a Reqest magazine picture, but
I'll bet it's the same one. ;)

BT>I'm sure most of you have seen it or have it. It's called
BT>Soundgarden: New Metal Crown, by Chris Nickson (218 pgs, $10.95 US/$15.99
BT>Can., St. Martin's Griffin). It has a pretty good discog. I haven't
BT>finished it yet, so I don't know how much info on the new album is in
BT>there. Its copyright date is 1995, so probably not much.

I looked for that book (and any book on Soundgarden) and I didn't find
anything, except Screaming Life. And I finally saw Kim without his
beard. Now I know why it was so hard to find before...he doesn't look
a bit like himself without it (now that didn't make sense). It's
pretty pathetic when there are eight-bazillion books on Aerosmith, and
none on Soundgarden.

BT>Have we decided on a t-shirt design yet?

I wrote something about getting the shirts made, but haven't read any
replies yet.
