I was looking over the artwork of the last three soundgarden
albums last night, and I noticed a couple of things. in the cases of
louder than love, badmotorfinger and superunknown, the covers seem to be
more interested in proclaiming the name of the band in big or bold
letters. ltl has that huge 'soundgarden' down the side in black on
yellow, bmf has a big red 'soundgarden' at the top, and superunk has
that white simple-typeface 'soundgarden' at the top also. on all these
albums, the title of the actual record is either not on the cover at all,
or plays a secondary role to the 'soundgarden' banner. this is kind of
interesting, considering the attempts that the band have made to retain
some kind of anonimity. on the last two records, blurry photos have been
the weapon of choice (even on the bmf/somms interior photo matt and ben
don't look like themselves. I would even go so far as to say that ben
looks more himself all blurred up on the cover). I also read that the
video for spoonman was made with a conscious effort to keep the band's
appearance a little 'under wraps', or at least understated, by using all
those cut photos and real big closeups. is it odd that they should
emblazon their band name on the cover at the expense of the title, and
then want to hide their faces?

just a couple of other things about the bmf/somms cd. I never
noticed that chris has a topknot in the interior photo (much like the one
layne has on the photos from the mad season record). and I'm not sure if
this is solely a somms thing, but I noticed a little circle at the bottom
right of the spiral on the front cover. it has some little doodle thing
in it, but buggered if I know what it says.

it would certainly be a new and decidedly radio-unfriendly track
for soundgarden to relese this as the first single from the new album.
sort of like 'rape me' by nirvana (which had moist vagina as the bside
btw). the song wouldn't sound the same if there were beeps or pauses all
the way through it, and it would obviously take away from the song.

did you here it on jjj here in australia fellow queenslander?

Nope :) no edits :) that's why it ways even cooler :) It was played on
the national youth radio and they don't edit anything. It is the best
radio station we have got :) Even if it's not that great some of the
time, but if they play Kyle Petty :) I am sure there will be more when

It would be nice to see ANY soundgarden videos.. I have to stay up all night
to stand any chance of seeing a cool video. To the best of my knowledge,
Spoonman has been on once, Black hole sun once, The day I tried to live once.
(Apart from clips) The only other related thing was Hunger strike, which was

If my memory isn't wrong again, it was
Alice In Chains + Mark Arm (IF that is his name,

The name of the band was Alice Mudgarden.

The description reads "One of Seattle's oldest nightclubs,
The Vogue, used to be host to Sub Pop Sunday showcases.
This photo of Chris Cornell, taken in 1987, is from one of
those early performances". Price $15.00 U.S. The other
item is a set of 8 postcards 4 1/4"x6" (also limited to

Mudhoney, TAD, Green River, and Soundgarden. The
pictures are real small but it looks like the one from
Soundgarden is Chris and Kim. It says it is only sold as
a set. Price $8.00 U.S. Just thought someone might

I agree. Somewhere, face pollution, and head down are great songs - they
really get into me. But for some reason half gets under my skin a bit.
Don't get me wrong, I think there is something to be said for whatever he's
doing, I just don't follow it too well. It's almost like he shoulda been
collaborating with John Cage on that one. Alie.

Yep, I'm with ya. Ever since the first time I heard head down I've had
like, some attachment to it or something, I dunno. But it does mean
something different to me than most songs do. It's like when you're feeling
shitty or self-conscious or weird about something, and you're all closed up
about it, and then you hear the song and it's like he's right in there with
you, and it's like you and him against the world. Ok, maybe that was a bit
much, but I'm having a hard time trying to say what I mean. "Words you say
never seem to live up to the ones inside your head", eh? Anyone else? Alie.

Bouncy bouncy! I heard it on the radio a couple of weeks ago too. It was
so great that I started freaking out in my living room, bouncing off the
walls and the ceiling and shit. (I don't have a car) And then my mom had
to give me a mild sedative. Alie.

C'mon now, you CAN'T be serious. I don't think anyone in their right mind
would make a whole song about masturbation (except GD, but they suck). I
would never make one of my
songs into an ode to spankin it. That would degrade the song. I think you
guys are reading way too much into this.

Clown's comments of the day.

I'm sorry dude but I don't like Moike McCreedy's guitar playing. He just
seems so structured, his solo's don't really impress me and he just seems
to go along the lines of "insert solo here" secondly I don't like the way
he played on totd. But I loved the stuff he played on Mad Season's "Above"
album. As for the guy that said that Kim Thayil is the worst guitar player
in the world. Please go to the hair farm, just because he isn't playing
    flashy solo's and isn't in love with high pithed e-cord solo's doesn't
mean he sucks. No one plays like Kim does that alone makes him one of the
better guitar players of this era, secondly I don't think any of those
other guys can write like kim. Finally none of those buttrockers are
playing songs like cold bitch. 64th for 5 minutes or 3/4, 4/4 5/4
consecutively. Or how about 15/8 for five minutes. Basically those guys
play crap, and in case you haven't noticed almost all of Van Halen's songs
    sound basically the same.

Chris once said that it was because he thinks people get sick of a band
after seeing their faces a bazillion times on MTV, so if they kept
their faces off the screen, they might create some sort of anonimity so
that people won't know too much about them and get sick of 'em. Maybe
that's why we don't see them in Hit Parader every month like Pearl Jam
and Green Day. This could also appeal to the people who think, "Well,
this band is too popular and I see them all over and on MTV all the
time, so I won't like them anymore. Well, that's probably what he
meant in the first place.

SE>me thinking, what is your favorite SG video?

I've never seen the Hands All Over, or Flower, or Rusty Cage, or
anything else older than Superunknown, except Jesus Christ Pose. You
see, I live out here in the middle of nowhere, where people didn't hear
of Soundgarden until a few years ago, and it's still hard to find
videos and rare stuff. And I STILL don't get cable, so I don't get to
watch the ever so cool (snicker) MTV too much.
But my favorite would have to be Fell On Black Days. I love that song,
and they play it even better in the video. And the video is just so
simple it rules. I can't think of any other way to put that song to a
video. And Ben's close up at the beginning (where he looks like he
just got outta bed) sets the mood for the whole video.

Yep. He's really a snowboarder, and so is Eddie. They went to some
snowboard special event thingie somewhere in Washington, I think.
Well, I KNOW they went to some special snowboard thing together, but
I'm not sure where. But, does anybody know if he really skateboards?
How about any of the other members? Does Kim do anything besides drink
beer and play his (many) guitars? How about Matt and Ben.

I've never been to Lolla either, but I'll be sure to go this year.
With Soundgarden and Metallica and all. I'll beat up the guards at the
door to get in if I have to. Hold up the whole show and kidnap
Soundgarden and then have them play a whole show just for us. Every
song they've ever made, of course. ;)
Anyway, I was just wondering who lives around me so I might know who
I'm looking for when I go to Lolla. I live in western Maryland (USA,
for all you out of country people...of course, you are in your country
though...I'll shut up now). I'm sure there'll be a show around
Wahington DC somewhere, and I'd go to that one, unless there is one
closer.

I have a MLB tape, and it's not titled. It was released after Andy
died, and it is purple (the cover). It's not titled either, and it
does have a lot of songs that are on Apple. Maybe it's just a reissue
of Apple, but I dunno. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have 17 songs on it,
though. And mine was only $5.98. :)
