Probably the same - has Chris actually gone through puberty yet? The only
guys I know of that could ever reach the notes he does were castratis (and
it doesn't take a wizard to figure out how they reach those high notes)

Imagine Chris as a child? He starts into a rebellious mood to the tune of
Rusty Cage, if his mum gives him a lecture he goes with Jesus Christ Pose,
if he's looking for his teddy bear after someone has given him a black eye
he starts singing Searching with My Good Eye Closed....

Don't mind me...I'm crazy

Nope, I doubt it. It was a tribute album, so I doubt they'll do
another, unless another close friend dies. I wish they'dget together
for at least a few new songs too. I love 'em. Although it was really
Chris and His Band of Pearl Jam Except For Matt. If Chris wasn't in
that band it would've been nothing. Speaking of this topic, I think
Soundgarden wouldn't be the same if any one member left, but it would
be most lacking if Chris left. Ok, now before you shoot me, listen.
Who writes just about all of the music? Who writes most of the lyrics?
Who has the voice that can stop a rhino at 30 paces? I know there's
no drummer like Matt, and no guitar player like Kim, and no bass player
like Ben, but they could be replaced easier than Chris. It might be
lacking in that area a little, especially if Matt left. I guess
drummers are hard to come by. But I would never want to see any of
them leave, because I think they're all freakin' awesome.

Yeah, he's pretty damn good. But Dream Theatre's songs have tons of
fucked up timings in a song that's 10 minutes long (at least) and
Soundgarden crams theirs into 4 or 5 minutes. I guess that doesn't

To anyone that says that Sg would be sg without Chris Cornell. Just listen
to Temple of The Dog. True chris wrote the songs and yes they are
beautiful songs, but it's nothing close to soundgarden. I personally would
prefer to hear those songs done by sg but I don't forsee that happening in
the future. It has taken me about 3 years to really like totd, because I
don't like Mike McCreedy's guitar style. I liked him on Mad Season's album
but not on totd. I don't know if it's the way it was produced or what.
But the fact is it's not sg. Just think about it; without Matt, Ben, and Kim
we wouldn't have the songs "Jcp", "Slaves and Bulldozers", Room a thousand
Years wide, "New Damage", "Head Down", "Limo Wreck" , "superunk", "fresh
tendrils" , "Mailman", "hands all over", "I awake", "flower" etc.. etc..
the other guys don't write as many songs as chris but just like chris they
always write great ones, that become sg classics. It's just a question of
quantity. The one thing you can defintely say about chris is that without
him we would have to wait longer for new sg songs, and I know no one wants
that. Sg is like a puzzle remover a piece and the picture is ruined, we
are very lucky that they found ben after hiro left. He has really
contributed alot musically. Okay that is enough of my ramblings.

fits great with Chris, because they both have the wit and charm and
stuff like that. Kim could also be Yosimite Sam. And Ben kinda

I didn't think so, but I thought I missed something. I remembered an
interview where Chris said that he didn't want kids yet, because it
wouldn't be good raising a kid in the kind of environment that he's in,
and with him and his wife always apart because of their jobs. He said
he might have kids eventually, though. Hopefully, he doesn't decide he

Yeah. That's what I'm trying to say. It's just that I think each of the
guys accounts for 25% of the finished product. Imagine how different it
would be if Scott Sundquist had stayed in the band. Or Jason Everman for
that matter. I mean, the *only* way SG could have gotten the vibe of
"Badmotorfinger," for example, was with Chris, Matt, Kim and Ben. It
wouldn't have worked with any other combination. True, Chris writes most
of the material, but I don't think the other three guys are exactly
replaceable, if you know what I mean. I know that's not what you're
trying to say, but I think Matt, Ben and Kim deserve just as much credit
as Chris for making SG what it is. IMHO, at least.

Well, let's just see, shall we?

On the four major albums (I will deal with _Screaming Life_ and _Fopp_
separately), there are 51 songs, the music for 25 of which Chris
Cornell did not write. Granted, that's less than half, but when you
exclude "Smokestack Lightning" and "One Minute of Silence" because
they're covers, you wind up with Chris Cornell participating in
writing the music for a MINORITY of the songs in Soundgarden's
arsenal.

As for the early EPs, the combination reissue does not have music and
lyrics credits, but be sure of this: Cornell did NOT write the music
for "Hunted Down," "Tears to Forget," "Nothing To Say," "Little Joe,"
and "Hand of God."

So, even considering that Cornell may have written the music for
"Entering," "Swallow My Pride," and "Kingdom of Come," that means of
the 10 songs on the reissue disc, he wrote the music for at MOST those
three, excluding "Fopp" because it's a cover tune. So tack on another
5 out of 8 songs not written by Chris, and this brings the totals to:

Songs with music written by Chris:	27
Songs with music not written by Chris:	30

Soundgarden 101 will teach you about "Room A Thousand Years Wide,"
"Slaves & Bulldozers," "Flower," "Incessant Mace," "Hands All Over,"
and "Limo Wreck" -- these are generally recognized as staples of the
Soundgarden diet. Chris did not write the music for any of these.

Oh, I almost forgot: Cornell didn't write the music to "Heretic,"
"Blind Dogs," or "Kyle Petty, Son of Richard" either.

But that's Chris against the other three. So he's still the majority
if you account for all three instead of the three as one.

SA>	Songs with music written by Chris:	27
SA>	Songs with music not written by Chris:	30

Still, three people wrote 30 songs while Chris himself wrote 27. He's
still got more than any other one member.

Alright. I agree, but I was just saying that the others could be
replaced EASIER than Chris. There are a lot of guitar players out
there, they might not be as good as Kim, and the sound might change a
bit, and it might not be as complicated, but with tge reast of the
original band, it wouldn't be that bad. And most of the songs Kim
writes resembles the ones Chris writes, which is why their styles
compliment each other so well. If Ben left, there wouldn't be those
diverse songs like Half, and Head Down. But remember, the bass player
has been replaced before, and it didn't have any badeffects on the
band. In fact, it had many good effects. I think if Matt left it
would make the biggest impact (other than Chris) because his drumming
is so....what's the word.....I can't think of the one I want so I'll
stick with freakin' awesome. But if Chris left, there wouldn't be
those 27 songs, and there wouldn't be a kick ass singer and Soundgarden
would be lacking a lot of lyrics. I know it would change the way
Soundgarden is if any one member left, I was just stating that Chris
does write some great songs and lyrics, and if he left Sondgarden would
probably be no more. And Soundgarden is unique because each member
puts their own things into each song, no matter who wrote it. So I am
agreeing with the ones who say they would be different if someone left
and was replaced, because it would probably be pretty hard to find
someone who has the talent and ability of any of the members. Ok, I
think I'm running in circles now, so I'll stop.

I dunno about that one - sure Mike Patton writes the lyrics to the songs,
but most (all?) of the music is not Mike's. The Real Thing's music was
written before Mike Patton was even decided upon as singer for Faith No
More... The integral members, the long standing members of Faith No More
(and Faith No Man as it was originally known), any of whom without which
Faith No More could be no longer, are bassist (Billy Gould), drummer (Mike
"Puffy" Bordin) and keyboardist (Roddy Bottum), who met way before Jim
Martin or Chuck Mosely even came on the scene...

Comprimise - you couldn't have Faith No More exactly as we know it without
Mike Patton - but that's like saying Faith No More wouldn't quite be the
same without Jim Martin (note the change in guitar styles between Angel Dust
and King For A Day..Fool For A Lifetime)...

Sorry to be picky...

Jackhammer.

Useless trivia for the day - Courtney Love was one of the very first singers
for Faith No Man and she was actually Roddy Bottum's girlfriend for a stint...

Surely Chris writes more than any one band member.. Half the songs is still
double his fair share. You can fiddle with the statistics as much as you like,
but you can't take away the fact that Chris is the biggest contributor to the
band in terms of song-writing.. That's not to say that he IS soundgarden.. If
ANY member left, they would cease to be the same band.. Look at the difference
between the pre-Shepherd soundgarden and the present one..

I am new in this club that you have here. Just want to say that I love
Soundgarden too. Maybe not as much as some of you seem to, but I do have a
love of music and I want to be more informed about it all. I guess I will
have to stay posted.

I live about a half an hour away from Seattle and I guess I could do
it, except I don't
have anything to tape record anything with and I don't know anything about
uploading
anything to a website so nevermind. Pretend you didn't read this.

are you sure about this one? I thought there was no way the
album was going to be out before the end of may. maybe you are thinking
cd+ or something? otherwise, let soundgarden produce their own albums
every time, if it only takes them two weeks to mix :)

Subject: Interview?

Here's the meat and potatoes kids:
My english teacher (David Pink) knows the saxophonist
from BadMotorFinger quite well (Scott Granlund). He saw
that I was listening to CD's everyday and asked what I was listening to,
of course it was SG. He then related he know Scott and is in the
process of getting his phone number or e-mail address (hopefully so I can
give it out easier) so I can do an interview. It would really be cool to
have an inside take on the creative process and if it all pans out I
would like to get questions for the interview through the list.
Admittedly he is an obscure interview for our purposes, but he was in the
recording studio and we weren't.
Any questions you wish to ask I will sort through (hopefully this
pans through). Just put the word QUESTIONS in the subject line so I can
compile them with relative ease.

		Sincerly,
Aaron (hey, ummm, Scott, I play sax too, duh)

That was from the Melody Maker, June 10, 1989. I found it with all the
magazine articles on Seth's page. Is this really the way it happened? I was
under the impression that SG persuaded Matt to join them.
