The Kickstand shirt is green. Not just any green, but weird green,
kinda puke green or booger green. Anyway, it's darker, off green,
green, if you know what I mean. The tricycle is sparkly purple, though.
I would have to say that Chris' favorite color is black. And for some

I think Ben is a hell of a musician, but he does seem kinda weird. I
never hear him talk, and he's never in interviews. I always see Chris
in interviews (because he's so awesome) and Kim talks a lot in them,
and I've even seen Matt in a few, which is rare for drummers to get the
sppotlight. But never Ben. And we have all heard some pretty nasty
stories of spitting and flippin' off the fans, which doesn't seem like
the Soundgarden way. Chris is always so positive about the fans and
says how much he wants to keep us happy and keep doing stuff for us and
not the media or the money. But Ben doesn't seem like that. Maybe
it's just that young'un rebellious stage that we all go through. ;)

So far I like the idea of a list t-shirt. It would be very cool 'cause not
too many people in my town would have one.

The ideas I liked:

color = purple or green, or grey (white and black are definitely out for me)

SOMMS not the extended version

Twisted Fork.

Posting with my good eye closed.

My idea. Twisted fork on the left breast where the pocket should be, SOMMS
under it, and on the back Posting with my good eye closed.

Sound like a good idea?

Don't you hate it when your favorite band decides that it's going
to release all of it'd B-sides on one album. I somewhat despise that
because I'm out kicking my butt around from record store to record
store just looking for that exclusive import that will shine in my
collection and after I spend $20.00 on a stupid single, that is 99%
album tracks and 1% rare stuff, I find out that if I had waited a week
later I could have gotten an entire album of rare crap. Practicallity
aside though I'm a bit of a snob and I take pride in knowing and
having more rare band crap then the other guy, who doesn't care
either way,so when these special B- side albums come out my entire
stock pile is useless.
Take the once phenomenol but now bastardized song "Girl U want"
for example. It first appeared on Somms( as far as I know ) and then
it showed up once again on one of the outshined singles and then after
a long rest it came back on a Fell on Blackdays single as some kind
of ultra rare track. This really pissed me off because the entire
exclusivity of having this song in my collection was a farse. No
longer was I prised and idolized as a demi-guru of soundgarden lore.
In other words I protest the multiplication of rare tracks on
exploitative ventures. Sure bands are exploitative by nature but hell
why not give the hard liners and demi-gurus something exclusive to
hold onto. That's my peel on the shamm what's yours?

Im pretty sure that a mellotron was the only way you could use samples
back in the olden' days.. It used small pieces of tape on each
individual key (it was a keyboard instrument) each with a different
recording of the desired instrument on it. Apparently the results were,
and still are very pleasing, but they phased out of popularity because
of the sheer hassle of running and maintenence compared to modern
methods of sampling. Don't you just wanna scream from the brightness of
enlightenment?;)

Having consulted my personal psychiatrist, I can formally announce that
this bass players particular neurosis is that he takes NO POO. I belive
that it's a fairly rare affliction amongst bass players. The bass player
in my band also suffers from the same problem..

I think that it's one of each (a six an a twelve). But when it builds up
near 3/4 of the way through it could be layered with others....
Nevertheless, in its own way, the power felt within that song is equal
to any full-band recordings they've done.

Someone wanted a vote, so here's mine too:

If not black, then grey or green or purple. SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!
IE, not white either!!! I like the gold idea...I know there's a "burnt
yellow" or gold color.

I like the twisted fork idea. I also second what someone said--can
anyone on the list draw? Well enough to do that?

I like the idea for the slogan Posting with my good eye closed, and I
like the idea of the web site addie being on there. My thoughts are
what happens when Seth leaves MIT? The list addie will change, right?
Seth, thoughts on that?

Let's keep it simple yet somehow get it identified with Sgarden, but
we'll have to be careful we don't violate any copyright laws on that,
so I think that means any logos they've used are out unless we get
permission. So where onthe shirt can we at least put the Sg name?

How soon can we get this moving if we're really gonna do it??? My
concern is that I'll only be on the list until early June and then I'll
have to leave until September or later!! :( So someone needs to check
silk screen places for prices, etc. and I agree on the # of tees as 100
too! No, wait, I retract that....we'll need to get a count and then
say here's the # and that's all.

Further comments??? Let's do it!

I think She Likes Surprises is a really cool song, but
I don't think it would have been the best way to end
Superunknown.

BTW, as far as titles for the next album, I'm pretty
sure it's NOT gonna be Infamous Sports Biography. In the
Rolling Stone article (I think), one of the band members
just said that title as a joke, since they already had
songs called Kyle Petty and Ty Cobb.
I also hope they change some of the song titles. While
I'm quite sure that the songs will kick ass, some of the
titles just haven't grown on me. The only one I really
liked out of the group (aside from Petty and Cobb) was
Blow Up the Outside World. Sounds like something everyone

I was sitting here (like uninvited company, of course) in front of
Photoshop, getting ready to make up some designs for the list t-shirt,
when it occurred to me that I've never seen Chris' twisted fork. Can
someone please describe it to me in detail so that I might try to
recreate it as an image?

thanks,

I was just thinking that everyone has a favorite quote and they
are all good (of course they are, it is Soundgarden after all) so I think
the shirt slogan should be more obscure. Something only the fanatics
would understand. ...never get us anywhere but dead..

Personally, I don't think anyone -has- to draw. Can't you just scan the
image somehow directly off a photo? I think that would be better than
some boring line drawing...

I have always felt the same way. I mean why would a shedding dog cause
the grass to grow greener? I know at my house where ever the dog pisses
or shits the grass grows greener. Is there anyway we can find out for
sure?

Well, the Web page is not maintained on MIT's server, so that address
is not going to change (though I wonder if it's even appropriate to
put the Web address on the shirt... I'm obviously biased, so that's
not for me to decide). As for the list, there are (as far as I can
tell) 4 things that might happen:

1. I graduate and someone else takes the list, and hopefully they like
the name SOMMS, so the list becomes somms@someplace.else

2. I graduate and someone puts this list on a listserv, and hopefully
they like the name SOMMS, so the list becomes somms-l@listserv.someplace

3. I graduate and remain at MIT to work, and hopefully I like the name
SOMMS, so the list stays somms@mit.edu

4. I graduate, leave MIT, and no kind soul takes the list, so it dies

If we were to just put "SOMMS" somewhere on the t-shirt, that would at
least cover most of the bases.

Has there been any word on whether Soundgarden's video for "Flower" will
be on MTV's 120 Minutes or not?

Ghoul's "Bucket of Xiao" is a great video with live clips of Ghoul's cool
and unpredictable stage antics interspersed with shots of GG Allin on
stage, Charles Manson in prison, Sid Vicious cutting himself on stage
with the Sex Pistols, and a lot of other cool and rare bands' live
footage. The song is about a small-time band making it big and then
breaking up and the members ending up living worthless lives, like one of
the members kills someone (perhaps an allusion to Sid Vicious). Check out
this video---it is occasionally on 120 Minutes too.

I agree with Seth. SOMMS List is enough to go on the t-shirt. No need to
clutter up the shirt too much. If people want to join the list they'll do
so anyway, not because of seeing it on someone's t-shirt. And I kind of
like the idea of us being a small group - we don't want the whole world
joining in on the bandwagon! - so let's just keep it simple, at SOMMS List,
or just SOMMS.

And "Posting with our good eye closed", of course.

And a twisted fork on it, with the word Soundgarden somewhere.

And any colour but black, white or grey. (good idea of someone's to decide
on the colour afterwards - let's get the design right first).

Maybe Deb could find out the copyright side of things as far as us using the
name Soundgarden on a shirt? (after a rethink, I agree - no logos to be
used). If we are not using this shirt as a money-raising venture, I suspect
we'd be okay - we'd only be charging each person who wanted a shirt enough
to cover costs.

I look forward to seeing a design on Seth's web page!

I like Ozzy better on vocals not only because I think the music and
lyrical content were better than the existing Sabbath with Dio but also
because his voice, perhaps not the greatest in range, portrays the images
and emotions of the songs better than Dio's for his songs or in general.
Ozzy, also is a superior showman. I have Sabbath's "Live at Last" and
Ozzy's solo live albums and his concerts are unbelievable. He gets the
crowd riled up, tells 'em to go crazy, and expresses his love for
the fans and says he'd be nothing without them. This is a stark contrast
from the new Sabbath who knows that it was once great and still thinks it
is. Iommi's egomania, perhaps warranted at one time, is what made him
force his friend Dio into the band and Ozzy out. He thought he was the
band because the music was so good. This, as we see in rtrospect wasn't
true. A similar situation occurred with Van Halen. After "1984" David Lee
Roth thought he was the band so he went solo and had mediocre success at
best. He didn't realize that Eddie Van Halen was the musical and lyrical
impetus that allowed Roth's crazy vocals to come out well. As we see,
Eddie can make this successful with Sammy Hagar as well. Don't get me
wrong though, I ike Van Halen with David Lee roth so much better than
with Sammy but both are really awesome. This, however is a totally
peripheral issue.

GROTE'S OFFICIAL SOMMS SHIRT PROPOSAL
- -------------------------------------
grey shirt.

long sleeves.

black and red screen printing.

front: on left chest, big black block letters: SOMMS (positioned where
       a chest pocket would be)

back: In big red italics and in quotes: "Posting With My
Good Eye Closed" (this is a fantastic slogan, by the way)

The slogan would run in a fairly slim block, i.e.

"Posting
 With My
 Good Eye
 Closed"

The web page address would run vertically on one side of the
block and the list address would also run vertically on the other side
of the block. Both would be in black plain type.

(another option would be running the addresses in a circle around the
slogan block...come to think of it, that might look a lot better...one
address on the top of the block in a half circle, and the other on the
bottom in a half circle...separated by dots on either side of the
block)

oh well...may the best idea win...

does anybody know a good option for producing these shirts? i may be
able to get a good volume deal on screen printed shirts, if need
be...

is obviously illegal and if we even speak about it to anyone it might

You can see it in the Black Hole Sun video, and you can even see it in
