They did the same thing at Brixton.. They got someone to sing "God save the
queen" and Kim Thayil tried to play along to it (heh heh heh) sounded like
Kurt playing star spangled banner, excpet it sounded a bit more like god save
the queen than that, if you get what I mean..

Ok, you're probably right. My mom judges everything by the title or

"Gonna kill your mother" which would be bad, except he says, "put down

Hmmm..... OK. How's this? At any given time, whatever SG song I'm

P.S.--If Matt and Ben are staying in your basement, you'd best start

Sabbath? only the most innovative band in the early seventies. some
would say Led Zep, but they were a heavy blues/rock band, not "heavy
metal" as BS was. (not that Zep was no good...they kicked ass) Sabbath
owes most of their greatness, in my opinion, to Tony Iommi for writing
simple, but incredibly killer riffs on the guitar. Also, the tuned down
thing, half step or dropped D, is used extensively by SG. (dropped D I
mean). i think that Electric Funeral and Paranoid and Sabbath, Bloody
Sabbath are the best BS efforts. Not that I am dissing Iron Man, or War
Pigs or Fairies WEar Boots, or geez, any other Sabbath song. Oh well
they rock and I'm about out of breath, so...

Mudhoney's "Touch Me, I'm Sick" was originally released the summer of 1988
as a SUB POP 7". The reason there is a song called "Touch Me, I'm Dick" is
because of Mark Arm (singer/writer of Mudhoney/Green River/+ 20 other known
side projects :-). The people putting the _Singles_ soundtrack together
wanted to use the song "Touch Me, I'm Sick" (the definitive Seattle
anthem)...but sir Arm wanted too much money to release the rights. I
believe the figure was 20 grand. Anyway, Citizen Dick (Matt Dillon +
members of Pearl Jam?)? recorded a version of "Touch Me, I'm Dick" (which is
a parody of the original) that can be heard in the movie.

They can't play "Hands All Over" on the radio here for that very reason.
Despite the fact that the song is about the environment, and the lyrics are

Well, turns out, after an ACLU court victory, for now, the "indecency

C.O.C. is a Raleigh, N.C.-based heavier-than-grunge band that used to be
kinda hardcore. They have five albums but only two are on major labels.
Their punk/hardcore album "Technocracy" was decent but "Animosity" is
better. Neither of these sold that well. "Blind" got the band more
well-known since it contains better musicianship. Their latest release
"Deliverance" is their best-seller by far but it has a new lead vocalist,
Pepper Keenan who is also in a side-project called Down with Phil Anselmo
of Pantera. The band is kind of Soundagarden-like but they are more
Sabbathesque. To prove the point, they are on the Sabbath tribute album
and do a pretty good job.

I recently received a list of songs from A & M records that could count=20
as Soundgarden covers even though they were never recorded. The band=20
played everything from funk, pop, reggae, metal, and classic rock to punk=
=20
when they were tryin out new bassists to replace Jason Everman. The list=20
is as follows

Lynyrd Skynyrd --- Gimme Back My Bullets
Simple Minds --- Don't You (Forget About Me)
Van Halen --- Sinner's Swing
Van Halen --- Hang 'em High
Bob Marley --- I=A0Shot the Sheriff
Husker Du --- Ice Cold Ice
Sex Pistols --- Belsen Was a Gas
Sex Pistols --- Pretty Vacant
The Replacements --- Takin' a Ride
Black Sabbath --- Sweet Leaf
Led Zeppelin --- When the Levee Breaks
KISS --- Detroit Rock City
ACDC --- Girl's Got Rhythm
James Brown --- Spank
U2 --- Bad
New York Dolls --- Chatterbox
Velvet Underground --- All Tomorrow's Parties
Slayer --- War Ensemble
Hearse --- The Rending (a song stolen from the band Tear)
Cream --- Politician

The old press release says that they played these songs to test out the=20
range of the bassists and because they liked these songs. I'm sure they=20
played a lot of other songs but the record company didn't bother to=20
include them on the list. =20

Yeah it is by Mudhoney, but Sonic Youth did a great cover of it!!!!! it's on
a Mudhoney/Sonic Youth album both covering each others songs! Mudhoney's
version of Death Valley 69 (that song you hear at the end of Smokestack

COC - there was a previous post about them that pretty much summed up their
discography... I think Blind is better. there seems to be more emotion in the
singing. "Deliverance" has more of a heavy southern rock feel to it.

The new album- i think "jock titles" would be fine....I really don't think a
song called Ty Cobb would be very popular, especially since Chris says 'fuck' a
few times.. "Kyle Petty" already kicks ass.

new bands to check out:
*Replicants - features members of Failure, TOOl, and Zaum. it's an album of
covers (even the cars) but its pretty cool.
*Stabbing Westward - yeah yeah, this is their second CD and it kicks ass.
Anyone who likes NIN, Filter, Pop Will Eat Itself, this is a MUST BUY.
