I wonder if the ret of the band is into that. I know I read an
interview with Chris that said he's not the typical rock star because
he's happily married and drug free. i know he had an alcohol problem
but is over that ow. And I know every time I see Kim (in a picture, of
course) he's almost always holding a beer. But I never see Chris with
anything. Except in that Screaming Life book, there's a picture of
him, and there is smoke coming from his hand, which isn't in the
picture, so I assume he smokes (cigarettes, that is). I know Kim
smokes, and Ben seems like one of those by-theirself alcoholics. But I
doubt it. Hater did a song on the Hepilation album, and as we all
know, Ben and Matt are in Hater.

I think it's about three (?) brothers, and one of them went astray,
against their mother. The one brother would probably be Kevin, since
it's Kevin's mom they're goin' full on (duh! :). I can't remember the

I thought of it when someone asked me before.

Well, this is pretty weird. I was thinking about shaving my chest,
just because those blond hairs are long, but annoying because I just
hate chest hair (especially on females). But Then I thought I'd have
to shave about everyday because the stubble would catch on my shirt and
stuff. Then I thought, "Chris Cornell has a pretty hairless chest, I
wonder if he shaves it everyday. Surely that would get annoying after
a week or so." So it's funny that you said that.

OK.. Maybe it's just me who can't tune up a whole step. Anyway, when I found
that thing out about "no higher than a whole tone" it was in reference to
steel stringed acoustic strings (heavy guage).. So maybe light strings can be
tuned higher.. The only time I tried to tune up for My Wave I broke 2 G
strings :(.

Yeah, it doesn't actaully sound TOO bad, but you can't exactly play well on a
guitar with a big, wide neck and the strings an inch apart, when you're used
to playing a Fender Newporter.. Besides, I even suck with the Newporter :(

Did anyone manage to plug into that Inflatable Soule live internet

addie that Steve gave us and it said there'd be re-broadcasts, just to
keep checking. Maybe we should all do as Steven suggested to
me--contact Moe and see if they taped the thing.

If anyone is really curious about Inf. Soule, they are on the Blotch
Music site and someone told me you can order their CD thru Blotch.
They have 1 currently available and in about a month there will be a
second one. Addie is

I.S. has an email addie for anyone who'd like to contact them; it's

Inflatable Soule
P.O. Box 61132 all just FYI if anyone wants it
Seattle WA 98121

People have said they are curious about the band. I.S. does NOT sound
anything like Soundgarden. I had feared they were a Sgarden clone
before I heard their first CD. By the end of the first song tho, I was
hooked! They are rock, sort of folk rock, sort of hard to categorize.
The musicianship is amazing, and they are really fun to see live.

Hey, anyone else on the list familiar w/ any of the bands that Don
Allis posted? I can add a few to his list, just out of curiousity:

Diamond Star Halo
Give
50 Paces
Flake
Citizen Swing

Being from england, our seattle scene consists of SG, Pearl Jam etc. etc.
so basically i've never heard of any of those bands.. so what are they
all like? soundgardenesque? how big are mudhoney in seattle? or in
america as a whole? it seems strange that they've never really hit it
huge like SG, PJ etc. etc. I think they rock myself.. saw them at Reading
last year, and they're cool..

Hey Everybody,

I'm bored as hell right now so I thought I'd ask a question that has
been bothering me for a while. Does anyone know the maximum play
time of a CD single? I know full size CD's hold about 75 minutes of
music, and Soundgarden did an awsome job filling that up with
SUPERUNKNOWN. But just curious about the singles. Also, where is
the best place to look for singles?

Attention all drummers,

I think one of the biggest things that contributes to Soundgarden's
signature sound besides the guitars is Matt's offbeat Hi-hat opens.
He almost always opens the hi-hat on a downbeat, then closes it on the
next upbeat. It's so awsome, and it's especially apparent on Limo Wreck
and Fell On Black Days. In Limo Wreck he does a double, which is why
it's one of my favorite songs. Are there any other musicians or acute listeners
 out there who agree?

this is the most incredible news i have heard in as long as i can
remember. THE POSSIBILITY OF THE TWO FINEST SONGWRITERS IN THE PAST
DECADE PERFORMING TOGETHER ON THE SAME STAGE!!! i don't know if i can
take it.

does anyone have dates and venues for this tour? (unfortunately, i
live in the midwest and will probably get shafted on this deal like
most tours...oh well)

thanx for the info, mohit...you are truly an individual with good taste.

just imagine! chris and bob performing "girl who lives on heaven hill"
or "ice cold ice"...actually, i think chris's voice is very comparable
to grant hart's tone (far superior in power and range, but you get my
point) and the songs would work out beautifully...

anyway, later...

Did anyone manage to plug into that Inflatable Soule live internet
thing? Steven said he and a few others couldn't. I checked the site
addie that Steve gave us and it said there'd be re-broadcasts, just to
keep checking. Maybe we should all do as Steven suggested to
me--contact Moe and see if they taped the thing.

If anyone is really curious about Inf. Soule, they are on the Blotch
Music site and someone told me you can order their CD thru Blotch.
They have 1 currently available and in about a month there will be a
second one. Addie is

http://www.blotch.com/blotch

I.S. has an email addie for anyone who'd like to contact them; it's
soulefc@aol.com

and they do have a PO box

Subject: HYPE!

Found this at one of the Sundance Film Festival web sites. The link can be
found on the Sub Pop Web Site, but it doesnt work. You have to delete the
hype.html from the URL then resubmit it. THEN, you have to click reviews or
documentary reviews...

- -----------------------------------------------------------

Flannel. Facial hair. Assorted pierced appendages. This is the world of
"grunge" -- at least according to the media. Doug Pray's HYPE! takes an
exciting look at this subcultural phenomenon and the meteoric rise of a
musical genre. The film is a part of the documentary competition at this
year's Sundance Film Festival. HYPE! showcases the music of bands like
Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana (with a rare clip of their first public
performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit), and lesser known bands like Gas
Huffer, the Fastbacks, and Coffin Break. Featured along with the bands are
interviews with Seattle luminaries including Sub Pop Records founders
Jonathan Poneman and Bruce Pavitt, Nirvana producer Jack Endino, Pearl Jam's
Eddie Vedder, and photographer Charles Peterson, whose pictures and stories
give some fascinating insight into the "Seattle-sound."

The musical performances in HYPE! look and sound great. They give the film
its edge and energy. But HYPE! isn't really a story of the bands, the music
or even Seattle. The film is an examination of how a new artistic movement
becomes a trend, and goes on to have a major effect on American culture.
Grunge's infiltration into society is manifested through fashion,
advertising, and even language. From countless magazine covers, to a
flanneled-up Larry "Bud" Melman chanting, "Thanks phone Dude" in the
1-800-Collect commercials, and an amazing New York Times list of
"grunge-speak," HYPE! calls attention to just how derivative our society is.

The film probably won't appeal to the Michael Bolton set. You have to have
at least some appreciation for loud music, if not specifically the
Seattle-sound. And, while Curt Cobain's suicide was touched on briefly, more
attention could have been given to how that event permanently forged
grunge's niche in music history and into the American mainstream. On the
other hand, more content would have made the film too long, and most viewers
will understand the significance of that tragic event.

In recent years, several dramatic films have taken somewhat satirical looks
at the media's effect on culture. But this is a true story, and the
ridiculous realities the film uncovers makes this film even more powerful
than many of its predecessors. HYPE! may be the definitive story of grunge,
and also the final one. For now.

If anything I'd have thought that it would accentuate the tightness of the

I'm not sure of Kim's fascination with them, but to me, they're pretty
cool. (only heard a song or two...quite heavy)
Soundgarden was playing with C.O.C. a few years back (1991) in Germany.

Well, i only have their album deliverance but i would reccomend
it. Some of the songs are very soundgarden-esque, especially
Albatross. The singer doesn't have a voice like CC, however, but
then, who does? I have heard that their album Blind kicks
Deliverance's ass, but i haven't been able to check that out yet. -j

It seems general knowledge that Chris Cornell wrote
"Seasons", "Spoonman", "Fluttergirl" . . . etc as a joke. Jeff Ament
wrote the titles on the back of the Citizen Dick album from "Singles" and
Chris wrote songs for the titles as a half joke. But my roommate Todd,
who is very dear to me, brought something up:
Did Chris record "Touch Me, I'm Dick" from the
song listing? And if so, can someone please inform me.

			Thanks,

Subject: KISS

Does anyone out there dig KISS? I know that Matt does, at least. I read a
funny story about him in the "Matt Cameron Feature" issue of _Modern
Drummer Magazine_ shortly after _Superunknown_ was released. Matt said
that he and his friends were really into KISS when they were growing up,
and one of the first bands he was in covered a lot of KISS songs. In
fact, he said that his mom made authentic KISS costumes for the whole
band. They even put on face paint before their shows! Anyways, they drew
a fairly large following (for a *kids'* band, that is) until they got a
threatening letter from KISS' management. This particular letter said
something along the lines of "we'll sue your pants off if you impersonate
KISS again and make money off it." So that was the end of that. I just
thought it was funny. I mean, Matt pretending he's Peter Criss?

P.S.--Blind Dog, I sent you a copy of this article a couple of months
ago. I don't have the original here with me, so if I'm leaving anything
out please fill me in. Thanx.

C.O.C has had a couple of different sounds, but for the most part, they
are pretty much a basic kind of heavy metal band. I have two of their
CD's, Blind and Deliverance. Blind is OK. It's kind of Metallicaesque,
but definately not as good as any of Metallica's stuff. Deliverence is
much better. It's hard to say what it's like. It's sort of grunge-like,
but it still has a hint of the Metallica-type metal sound.
								Max.
