No, no, no, no, no. Only Fell on Black Days is the video version, She
likes Surprises is the international LP version. My friend just said,
"here, want this?" Seeing the letters SOUNDGARDEN across the top
prompted me to grab it with all speed.

I know this is a bit out of context, but have you noticed how clever those
particular lyrics are? If you look the song as being about televangelism, then
these lines become VERY powerful indeed.. Have a think about it..

I can help with some of these..

4th of July (main riff)
This is tuned down to C.. I suspect it's CFCGBE (although I'm not sure about
anything other than the bottom 2 strings)

OK.. Bottom 2 strings only..

  (G#) (C#) (G)
F-3-3-3-3----3-3-3-3---2--2--2--2
C-3-3-3-3-2~-1-1-1-1-0-2--2--2--2 (repeat 4(?) times)

Over the verse play

F-3-3-3-3----3-3-3-3---2-2-2-2-5-5-5-5-4~-3-3-3-3----3-3-3-3---2--2--2--2
C-3-3-3-3-2~-1-1-1-1-0-2-2-2-2-3-3-3-3----3-3-3-3-2~-1-1-1-1-0-2--2--2--2

Then

F-5-5-5-5-4~-3-3-3-3-----7_5-5--7_5-7\-5-5-5-5-4~-3-3-3-3-----7_5-5----
C-3-3-3-3----1-1-1-1-0-0---------------3-3-3-3----1-1-1-1-0-0----------

There is another bit after that onvolving bends, but I haven't been arsed to
work that out yet..

Note: it is not necessary to tune down for this song, it will sound right on a
standard tuned guitar..

LIMO WRECK

This song is FUCKING HARD..

INTRO:

G-----5------5---
D-------3-2----0-
G---5-------5----
C-0-------------- (repeat)

Hint: use your 3rd and 4th fingers to fret the 2 G strings, so that you have
the index finger free to fret the D string..

INTRO (cont)
     Harm---- Harm-
G----------12--------5-------0---------0-------0-
D-------12---------5-------5---------0-------0---
G----12----------5-------5---------0-------0-----
C-10-----------4-------3-------8-7-------7------- (repeat)

Hint: use your 4th finger for all the harmonics.. It seems easier that way.

Verse:

G-7--------7-4--3-/
C----8--7---------- (repeat)

At some point in the verse there are heavily distorted unison bends played
over this, and there is also a part (I think) where it returns to the second
part of the intro.

Chorus:

D----3--2----------
G-6--3--2--6-3--2--
C-6--------6-3--2-- (repeat)

That more or less wraps it up, though I'm sure I left some out...

FRESH TENDRILS
(from memory, not reliable :( )

G----------------------------
D----12---12----12---12\11-0-
G--------------------12\11-0-
D-12---------12----0--------- (repeat)

G------------------------0-9/10-10-10-10---
D----12---12----12-12\11-0-9/10-10-10-10---
G------------------12\11-0-9/10-10-10-10---
D-12---------12--------------------------0-

That's all I remember, except that the chorus is NOT in standard power chords

OK, one from BadMotorFinger now..

HOLY WATER

G---7---7\-------------7---7\----------------------------
D---7---7\-------------7---7\-------------7-9------------
A-----0------------------0----------------7-9--(7_9_7_9)-
B-0--------3-5-6-5-3-0--------0-3-5-10-12----------------

The part in bracket is played VERY fast compared to the rest.. I'm sure you
can get the timing from the record better than from my spacing ;)

But this is unfortunately as far as I have got with this one.. But it's cool
anyway :)

NEW DAMAGE

drop D

G----------------0---
D--------------------
A--------------------
D-5--4--3--1-2-1---0-

Chorus:

D-12-12-12-12-12---11-11-11-11-11---10-10-10-10-10--5---8-
A---------------------------------------------------------
D-12-12-12-12-12---11-11-11-11-11---10-10-10-10-10--5---8- (Repeat)

Then

G-----5-----5-----0---
D---5-----5-----5-----
A-3-----3-----3-------
D---------------------

Variations on main riff..

in place of 5-4-3:

A---1-3
D-5----

A---1---
D-5---3-

Also:

G-------------------------
D-----------3-5-----------
A-3-2-----3-----1-3-------
D-----5-3-----------3-5-0-

This song is actually a lot easier to play tuned to DGDGBE (like Fresh
Tendrils) taking this last thing into account, but it doesn't make a whole lot
of difference :)

Hope this satisfies, sorry I couldn't come up with anything else on your list
:)

Although I'm sure I posted some tab for Beyond the Wheel earlier on

supposed to look like Chris Cornell (and he did so I actually didn't
change the channel). One of the other guys looked like Kurt Cobain.
They totally stereotyped the Seattle scene portrayed all of them to be
grungie scumbags who suck playing music. In the end of the skit they
were actually signed to a record label.

It was so funny. Did anyone else see it?

Listen to Estranged on Use Your Illusion 2. It's freakin' awesome.
Well, except for the wussy vocals at the beginning (ok, it's
Axl...wussy lyrics all the way through). I mean, it sounds like he's
trying to cry. Real singers don't cry (in the songs at least). :)
Axl may suck as a singer, but he's a hell of a musician and a pretty
good piano player. And Slash kicks ass on the guitar...but he's not
quite a Kim Thayil. I don't like most of their music, but I have to
admit I do actually like some of their songs. Oh well, I also own a
Vanilla Ice CD.

I'm not disappointed that I asked about misheard lyrics! I laughed my
ass off about the florist. That's great. More, more! I need more!

As for my input... I remember hearding my first soundgarden song "birth
ritual" and being amazed. "What the HELL is he saying?" (Didn't
understand a word, sir.) But I sang along anyway. I'd like to assert
that I thought the first part of the the song was this:

"Lie-a lie lee lah. Ava nabadha." Sing it loud, sing it proud. I am
still not convinced of the words, even after reading them somewhere.
Unless they came from the damn group, I have no faith in someone else's ears.

Subject: wallets and seasons

I think that Chris making a wallet really isn't all that bizarre. He's
in a studio for god's sake. I'ts boring sometimes. I think it
symbolizes and respresents that he's making a wallets out of duct-tape,
presumably to hold his money and credit cards and pictures of me. Does
it have to mean anything more?

About seasons... I've always sang it as:

Summer nights and long warm days
starving as the old moon falls
and the mirror shows another face
another place to hide it all...

but who knows, maybe I'm on crack.
Love, Kate

The versions are the same from the album. Toybox is a good song if you like
the Ultramega Ok album. Does anyone else have the 3" mini disc of flower ?
It was a great find.

I have a question: Does the Flower E.P.
which includes: Flower, Toybox, and I believe All Your Lies have
alternative versions of Flower and All your Lies, or are they the same as
the UltraMega OK ones. And is Toybox a quality song. Maybe I am
asking the wrong people that one.

BACKWARD MESSAGES on track 665 on the UltraMega?
Wow! this back-masking thing is really sweeping everybody, even
here...we just had a TV station do a rundown on the mostly rock songs
..well, some priest or pastor was the main culprit..he backmasked all the
tapes he could get his hands on..I never really watch this show, but when
i passed by it and saw the "Rusty Cage" video..I said, "Hey!! those
fucking guys r airing Soundgarden!!!" and then from there i stuck on.

Well, most of the bands, interviewed (who they claimed had satanic
messaged on backwards) said that if you backmask a tape..you must be
really sick, or you don't have anything to do at all..and what you wanna
hear comes out, it's mainly how you interpret it.

Well, backmask or not...I still listen to my CD's and tapes the regular way.
Why would i wanna buy that stuff if I didn't enjoy the songs eh?

Mike
