ME>describe some of the music we on this list like?

I used to look in the alernative section (it wasn't very big) and find
bands like The Dead Milkmen and the Dead Kennedys and Suicidal
Tendancies and stuff like that. Now when I look, I see Hootie and
Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots. The Dead Milkmen and others are
still there, but the section just grew so people who want to be cool
and label themselves as "alternative" listeners would see all this
other stuff. It just doesn't make sense. When I go to a music store,
I look in ALL the sections (that is, except country and gospel...yes, I
even look at jazz and classical sometimes).

ME>Let's trhow this one out to the list--Folks, if you had to label
ME>Sgarden's music, what would you call it?

Louder than Love and Badmotorfinger can pretty much be labeled hard
rock or heavy metal, because they are pretty heavy. I don't know where
they would put the other albums though. Maybe they need a Soundgarden
section. :)

ME>I cringe to think someone is going to stick them w/ the label heavy
ME>metal. How does anyone get into the hard core HM stuff, I've never
ME>figured that one out. Sg is simply too...something...to be a metal
ME>band. Clean, just off of center, stuff like that.

Yeah, but there are many kinds of heavy metal. If I look at my local
store, I see Savatage in the heavy metal section, and they aren't even
close to that death metal shit. But yet they are in the same section.
I've seen Soundgarden in this section at some stores, but (in these
same stores) Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots and the such are still
in the alternative section. It just has to do with what store you're
in and who classifies it. I know there shouldn't be classifications in
music, but if there weren't, it would be a bitch finding your favorite
music.

ME>Good discussion here! Let's keep it going!

Let's talk about the effect of cheese on the atmosphere now! :)

sounds like a pretty horsey lottery to me. the grand prize

They can talk about their musical integrity till the cows come home, but
anyone who has listened to the 'Hater' CD knows that Pearl Jam stole
'Spin the Black Circle' from Ben, Matt and the boys. Before its
inglorious demise at the hands of Eddie and the Wailers it was called
'Down Undershoe' track 6 and the Hater CD. Take a listen, it's uncanny.

If we send our money to Seth we'll never see it again. He's just using

I just listened. I think it's just a coincidence. It kinda sounds
similar somewhere around the chorus of Down Undershoe, but only for a
few seconds. I don't think Eddie and the boys rip off other people
just to get music, because they have written some damn good songs
(Black, Immortality, Go, anything off Ten, and some others I can't

JY> You know it's sad when even nothingman is not talking to us

I was gone, ok? Besides, my account ran out and I didn't have ten
bucks.

JY>Okay, here's a topic for conversation: What is the best song you've ever
JY>seen sg do live? My vote: Jesus Christ Pose or searching with my good eye
JY>closed. Also, I saw them do big dumb sex about 4 or 5 years ago and it
JY>was neat because they had this really long recorded intro part of this
JY>guy sayingfuck a bunch of times. It was so long ago, I can't remember what t
JY>point of it was but I remember thinking it was cool.

Also, I've never seen Soundgarden live. They never come out this way.
I'd have to drive at least 8 hours to get where they go, and I'm poor.
Oh well, one of these days....
If anyone hears about Soundgarden coming near Maryland (western
Maryland), be sure to post it so I know. :) Thanks.

hi here is a sumary of the Rolling Stone article for all of those
like me with out alot of money to afford the Web or the issue:
- -Chris Cornell makes a new wallet out of black duck tape during the
recording of each album. Matt has one but Kim doesnt.
- -they have been working on the new album since July, they have 17
songs
- - some are without lyrics but most are almost finished, "theres stuff
on this new one like nothiong we've done before"-chris
- -_more like the band live(raw and noisy), song "Ty Cobb" is like
stooges and Ramones , lyrics:"Im hard headed/ fuck you all"repeated
a couple of hundred times, the original title was "Hot Rod Death
Toll'
- -other songs in the running"Christi",Blow Up the Outside World",Boot
Camp","appel bite",Zero chance" and Karaoke" last song is about lack
of origianl music today and how bands copy each other "Soundgardens
challenge is to make music thats diverse and unique"-chris
- -no title yet, due in spring, very thorough work with a bookcase full
of raw tape
- - working on it in Studio Litho, in Seattle, owned by Stone Gossard
in his basement,"It gives me a good feeling that Stone is sleepng in
the next room"-jokes Cornell
- - no outside producer( altough Superunknowns Adam Casper is helping)
because they want alot of noise and producers dont like noise because
it makes them look sloppy
- -Matt says that Chris could mass produce the walllets at
Lollapalooza"the Chris Cornell signature wallet"(coincidence?????)
- -the end

Okay, let me make you day a little brighter.. I was talking with a guy who
scouts for new sounds and bands for a record company. He told me the new look
in bands is going to be horns and bigger groups (not your standard 3 or 4
members). Sort of big band era sound.. So Mr. Nothingman, you may get your
wish..

I just read that Rolling Stone article on the web page and from the
sound of it this album is gonna be nothing short of amazing... (well we
all know that Soundgarden itself is capable of making nothing short of
amazing music, but reading that article makes me want to scream PUT THAT
DAMN ALBUM OUT NOW!) hehe I can't wait.. from the looks of the article
Kyle Petty might go on the new record, too.. it's gonna be so cool...
haha I'm gonna be scared to listen to it while driving or I just might
suddenly look down at my speedometer and see the lil orange thinge
pointed at ninety.. woohoo.. ok I'm gonna shut up now :)

Subject: req:lyricsTO "seasons"any1?

does anyone know the exact lines/ lyrics
Cornell SINGS on "seasons" from the singles album
and if this song is published on any other CD?

if you're sure you know , could u
please e-mail me at oyvindrp@sum.uio.no ?

for a long time I thought he sang:

" So the night's a long warm daze..."

which I thought was pretty cool and still do

until someone wrote : "summer nights and long warm days" in a lyrics
section of
soundgarden homepages

which I don't think sonds all that original

what's the correct understanding of what a "daze " is anyway?

I have the feeling one tended to put ones own "feeling" into it
depending on if it was the 60s'- 70's or 80's .

(please 'xcuse the "lingual flow of" english /american, I'm from Norway)

again , please e-mail me at
oyvindrp@sum.uio.no

if u know the answer to any of the above. thanx in advance, Oyvind R-P

That wallet thing in the Rolling Stone Article is weird. Does anyone
think it signifies or represents anything? I think it's weird because
Jim Morrison used to do the same type of thing. He used to keep his
credit card and driver's license and stuff between two pieces of
cardboard in his back pocket. I can't remember exactly what it
signified, but it had something to do with the idea of capitalism and
possessions and stuff. Strangest life I've ever known.

> But do tell what other shirts you have...

Are you sure you want me to tell you what other shirts I have? It might be a
little boring. Well I guess I will though.
Ok I have the one with the cover of the cd on it.(The normal one) A paint
splash one with the concert dates on the back. The one with the spark plugs
through it and the embroidered SsUoPuEnRdUgNaKrNdOeWnN shirt. One that has a
foresty thing all over it and it has soundgarden really big in yellow. One
that says soundgarden and in the letters there 's a bunch of circles so it's
kinda of like a hypnotizing kind of thing. It also has an eye on the sleeve.
I have a maroon shirt that has soundgarden embroidered on the front. The
green kickstand shirt. A yellow shirt that has a question mark on the front
inside of a superman kind of thing so it looks like superunknown. It also
says soundgarden superunknown on the back and it has that soundgarden
superunknown embroidered thing on the sleeve. One that has the picture from
motorvision on the front and it says the wreck is going down on the back. One
that says soundgarden in red and has the badmotorfinger logo embroidered
above it. A shirt that has the badmotorfinger logo in grey and it's kind of
puffed out. It also has the concert dates on the back. I also have one that
has an indian dancer on the front and the concert dates on the back. One that
has an army tank thing on it with a monster in it. (it's really weird) I have
another shirt with the badmotorfinger logo on the front and it has it
embroidered in the back too. I also have a baby doll shirt with a diamond
glitter logo on it and it says soundgarden in the middle. Oh and I also have
that on a normal white shirt. Well that's about all I can think of. I also
have 4 shirts and sweatshirts that people have made for me and I also ordered
3 more shirts. Well I hope I didn't bore you. :o)
