my girlfriend made me realize something the other day when i went
into a music store to buy some picks and look around the store and see what
they had available. when i was walking out a couple of other people where
walking out with new sets of strings mumbling things like, "yeah, we need to
practice," and, "when's our next gig."
she made me realize that there are thousands (if not millions) of other
guitar players out there, and there is someone that will always be one step
ahead of you in the competition. so that's why i feel that a true musician
should learn to play more than one instrument (maybe three or four different
ones would be good). For example, when soundgarden first started off chris
was the man behind the skins (drums), and he was also the vocalist (your
voice is considered an instrument of music). another example would be dave
grohl (from the foo fighters), he's played the drums, bass, guitar, and sing
(not at the same time of course).

Did anyone else see Soungarden at the Reading (U.K.) Festival last year ??

They cancelled their '94 appearance due to Chris having vocal problems, and
I was just wondering what the general opinion of the set was ?

They seemed to me to be a bit lacking in the enthusiasm department (which
isn't typical of their live show, very out of character).

Anyway, they played a song I've never heard, right at the end. It was kind
of a dark arpeggio effort, without vocals... possibly a demo track from the
*NEW* album ??? Can anyone shed some light on this ???

Also, does the SG CD+ have a U.K. release date ?

Take it easy...........

About 8 or 9 years ago europe had a "hit" called "the final countdown".
They then managed to sink without trace, sort of. They lacked talent or
originality (talentless but original might have got them a second hit -
I'm thinking of Right Said Fred). Since that single I have heard almost
nothing of them.

Firstly, whats happening to the list? to start off with, there were only a couple of messages and now in the last two days its got back to the normal level - are there like loads of people who've just got back or something???

As for lyrics that I've got hopelessly and utterly wrong - the are just too many (blush).

Finally, as for David Anderson

It was the instrumental Rondo of the Beatles - "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"
which segued into a massive swirl of feedback with chris screaming "Your
football team SUCKS!".

Hey

Well my web page is finally finished and the URL is submitted to Yahoo!
Sorry for those of you not using Lynx, Netscape or Mosaic.

Anyways...I set up a neat little "writer(s) of the month" section. If you
know anyone that would like to have thier works put on my page. email me and
we can set up space on my web page. I've alloted 200k+ of space for
portfolio's.

"Works" means articles, reviews, short stories, zines, essays etc. Anything
'entertaining' or insiteful that has never been published. I would like to
add that I wont have time to type stuff out. So, the work must be sent to me
via email.

I have no 'set' plans...so comments are welcome.

Used to be, Alternative seemed to mean anything out of the mainstream.
You know, the punks, the grungies, the bands that would never be played
on Top 40 radio, that only the fringe of the population knew about. So
I'd have to say it's an alternative to the mind-numbing, boring,
repetitive mainstream stuff alot of us may have grown up on! Why
wouldn't a band want to be called alternative? How else do you
describe some of the music we on this list like?

Let's trhow this one out to the list--Folks, if you had to label
Sgarden's music, what would you call it?

I cringe to think someone is going to stick them w/ the label heavy
metal. How does anyone get into the hard core HM stuff, I've never
figured that one out. Sg is simply too...something...to be a metal
band. Clean, just off of center, stuff like that.

I agree--anyone can listen to any music, any band, and it shouldn't
matter what imaginary lines you're crossing. I like having unusual
(tho I suppose to some boring) musical tastes, b/c of where I work and
what i do, no one expects it of me. I'm in contact w/ teenagers 5 days
a week, and when they find out what I listen to, that I know Live, and
Sgarden and PJ and others, they're stunned. It's fun!

Good discussion here! Let's keep it going!

later...deb

I have one that is white with the dark forest all across the middle of the
shirt. From one sleeve to the other on top says Soundgarden in large bad
printing and across the bottom says Superunknown. Back and front are the
same. The lettering is red and reddish purple. Who was on the list that had
something like 27 SG t-shirts???? There's the person you need to talk to.

One album that has it is Fresh Deadly Rarities, which I just acquired

I'm not one who likes to answer non-SG related strings but...I think Rush
has really gone down hill in recent years. I like that song where they
say "In and around the lake..." and that other one that jams that

I think some people missed some sarcasm in my question. I wasn't
seriously asking what 'alternative' music is. (I'm not that sheltered)
I was just wondering what people thought the term meant. I just don't
get why so many people are buying into it. I just call soundgarden
musicians. They make music. The reason I don't buy into the
classification of bands is because that tends to classify ME.

In regards to boots. I have a few but my favorite by far is
'Digging the Garden'. It has 13 tracks all recorded live from
the 'Motorvision Tour:
Searching With My Good Eye Closed (excellent)
Mind Riot
Outshined
Jesus Christ Pose (excellent as always)
Room A Thousand Years Wide
Rusy Cage
Little Joe
Slaves & Bulldozers (at a whopping 12:51)
Hands All Over
Big Dumb Sex
Gun
Beyond the Wheel
Somewhere
The disc says Made in Italy by Razor's Edge. Hope this helps.

I have a disc called "Loudest Love" that has the song "Come Together". It is
a Japanese Import and came with a lyric sheet in Japanese and English. The
song tracks are:

1. Loud Love
2. Hands All Over
3. Get On the Snake
4. Heretic
5. Come Together
6. Fresh Deadly Roses
7. Big Dumb Sex (New Version)

It also came with a cool chrome decal. This was the second SG disc I bought
after BM/SOMMS.

That would be me. :o)

I have one that says black hole sun on the back and has a weird picture on
the front.
One that has a question mark on the front and says soundgarden on the back.
A tie dye badmotorfinger shirt.
A white shirt that has the band on it from 95 and another white shirt that
has the band on it from 92.
A bright red shirt that has the blurry picture that's in the superunknown
case on the front and soundgarden is embroidered on the back.
A glow in the dark shirt that has the words to superunknown on the back.
A long sleeve shirt that says soundgarden down the sleeve and has an indian
dancer on the front
A badmotorfinger shirt that has the logo in purple and has a gun on the back
and one that has the logo in red on the front.
A white shirt that has the ultramega ok logo on the front. Oh and a gray
shirt that has the animal collage that's on their tour poster on the front
and the ultramega ok logo on the back.

Well those are my favorites. I have a lot more so if anyone wants to know
what other shirts are out there just tell me. :o)

That's amazing =) I envy you, you have an Ultramega OK shirt... My claim
to fame is I have this Superunknown shirt that I've only seen in one
store.. it's black, and on the front it says SsUoPuEnRdUgNaKrNdOeWnN
and the Soundgarden part is white and embroidered in and the
Superunknown part is just printed on in grey.. nothing on the back... oh
yeah and I have the Badmotorfinger shirt with a really messed up
Soundgarden logo and the Badmotorfinger wheel and the spark plugs on the
front and an embroidered Badmotorfinger wheel on the back.. of course
you probably have those =) But do tell what other shirts you have...

Thats awesome... I saw em in Rochester for the Days We Tried To Live
tour, and I think the best one was, hm, Jesus Christ Pose, too =) they
OPENED with it and I was standing there, and suddenly I was on the floor
=) Some guy helped me up.. if he's on the list, probably not, thank you
!
They didn't do that for me at Nine Inch Nails =) At that concert I had
people stepping on my face.....
But I got more bruises at Soundgarden than I did any other show =) Tad
opened, and that was my first moshpit... I almost died =)
oh that reminds me I saw NIN twice, the second time I got stepped on,
the first time I was there, standing next to this guy, and I look over
and it was the spitting image of Matt Cameron... I almost died =) It
wasn't him, I'm pretty sure, but Soundgarden could have been passing
through, because they were on tour kinda around there... yeah, right =)
