HI okay I just had to tell everyone just who Jason Everman is. He was
this minor freak who was recruited for Nirvana just before "Bleach"
was recorded he paid the $606 that it cost and so in a kind of
thanks, he was listed as Nirvana's drummer during "Bleach" athough he
never actually played on it. He toured with them for about one
season and then [quit/was gently but firmly asked to leave] because,
as Kurt said "He banged too much and in all the wrong songs. It was
screwing up the balance" [this was meant as a joke but I think it fit
the bill nicely] anyway, I am firm believer in the power of Billy
Corgan but only because I like the noise he makes[you know, he sings]
I don't care about the personalities of the musicians that I like
nearly as much as I need to like their music. I have never been
"Cool" or "In" I simply like the music I like and defend to the death
my right to like it. Whoever said Here is No Why was about Trent
Reznor, I listened to it twice and thought 'my god, their right!!!'
and then it hit me that my best friend had tried to tell me this for
weeks. . . okay I'm done. Are Soundgarden ever going to come to
Western Canada? Is this a possibility? Wow. bye, Starla.

Someone said Shannon Hoon was weak. Oh my god. . . that man had the
voice of an angel [I'm not dissing Chris' either] has anyone listened
to Carseat? New Life? The Duke? or ANYTHING on their first album?
they make music like it is something that they can really say
something through. My friend was really good friends with Shannon
and Glen [Graham] and she knew them for like 10 years. To have
actually talked to SH you get this kind of energy that can either be
close to heaven or lower than I knew was possible. I must admit,
they are rather odd and do not fit the bill of most bands, I don't
really even consider them punk but they make beautiful music and when
Shannon Hoon died, my friend went to see his family and when she saw
his baby, she cried. Maybe he wasn't what people expected from a
punk rocker but he WAS an amazing person and certanly NOT weak. Like
anyone's going to believe me you had to know him and see him make his
music in person. Starla

Subject: Lollapalooza? Well, okay...

Just a comment. Someone said that they heard that Soundgarden may be playing
at Lollapalooza, again, this year?! Personally I'd rather see them at one of
their own shows where they weren't limited to a 50 minute set like they were
in '92, especially if they're promoting a new album. Don't get me wrong, I
loved the set they did back then but it was too damn short and I didn't get a
chance to see them last year so I'm ready for a "whole" show, not just a
short set. I'll take whatever I can get though. By the way, why do I (we?)
keep getting these unsubscribe requests from people? Is this typical? Forgive
me, I'm still new to this list. Also, are there only twenty or so people on
it? That's about the number of people I see posting anything.

Well unfortunately i don't have bleach yet. But he was listed as a
drummer? If this is so, our boy has a little diversity of his own....
(i said diversity, not talent).

I like that a lot myself. And his lyric writing is pretty good, imho.
And so is his music writing. he does so much...

they can play in Keenan Stadium, which holds more people than our nice

I've gotta agree, this would definitely be a good thing.

And on a totally unrelated note, the indy boy inside of me hates the
overplay of bullet with butterfly wings, but my mind tells me that i
would rather have the masses contemplating the oh-so-true lines such as
"the world is a vampire" and "despite all my rage i am still just a rat

its got nothing to do with greed at all glenn. if soundgarden
happen to be releasing a non-album track at any particular time, I bet
most of us would say that we would want something new, and not something
that has been previously released. surely you can understand that those
of us who have already heard kyle petty would want to hear something more
recent (more importantly, something we haven't heard). vice versa, I can
understand that you would be happy with basically *anything* you haven't
heard before.

in any case, I thought someone said that it would be kristin, not
kyle petty at all. was it a typo that started this thread?

Subject: responses
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

ok, here it is: this is a soundgarden mailing list, so let's try to
keep the material at least _somewhat_ related to soundgarden, okay?

i am aware (believe it or not) that there are other bands out there. i
know that nirvana, faith no more, mr. bungle, smashing pumpkins, blind
melon, and guns n' roses either did or do exist. i would even go so
far as to say that some of these bands are excellent (my favorite
album of all time is by one of these bands). i believe there are
mailing lists or newsgroups for almost all of these bands (except
perhaps mr. bungle) -- and there you will find many people who share
your interests!

here, however, (and this is a response to the person who asked if
there were 20 people on this list) you get to discuss your opinions
about SOUNDGARDEN with 356 people (yes, there were more than 460
before the holidays, but many have not resubscribed yet).

i can understand that nirvana is related to soundgarden via jason
everman. comprisons of the voices of chris cornell and other singers
are more than welcome, but when we start arguing about whether or not
smashing pumpkins suck, i think we've strayed a bit far from the
point.

i realize that we need something to talk about, since many of us
'old-timers' have been talking for many many months, and are out of
new material. nobody wants to hear me say 'i added this, that, and the
other thing to our web page' any more. hey you relative newcomers,
speak up! let's hear what you have to say. when the new album comes
out, i can imagine the traffic on the list is going to skyrocket, but
until then, i'm sure we can come up with some good soundgarden-related
discussion.

for example, geoff suggested that someone try to put together a
soundgarden screen saver. can anyone do this? i seem to remember the
earlier versions of after dark actually coming with tools to make
custom screen saver modules -- anyone know what i'm talking about? i
suppose we could try to make an sg 'desktop package,' with a screen
saver, wallpaper, sounds, etc. we have a start -- the windows
wallpaper that i made (which doesn't look as good to me now, months
and months after i made the files) is on our web page, and i'm going
to turn the bmps into picts, so mac users can have them as well. the
'my wave' sound clip is excellent for assigning to windows functions,
and i imagine it would be good on macs, too.

well, i assured blind dog that i would try include something in this
message other than administrative crap, but i'm afraid i haven't done
a very good job.

i might as well mention that unsubscribe requests are to be made to
SAPERL@MIT.EDU, not to the list.

Dropped "D"(or that's what I hear) The chords are so bizzare! If you help
me you WILL be accredited in my Home-page of SG TABS. If you want a

include some non-released tracks like Kyle Petty, my version(in normal

Nothing new, but from the HotWired archives:

On the first Lollapalooza concert tour back in 1992, Eddie Vedder of
Pearl Jam and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden challenged each other to a
gentleman's duel: who could drink the most stomach bile. Not just
anybody's bile, either, but sickening, green foamy beer bile pumped
from the stomach and out through the nose of Matt the Tube, a member
of the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, also performing on the tour. The
disgusting contest continued all summer long, until eventually Vedder
won.

Subject: hello all!

i've been playing guitar for a couple of years now, and i'm just
looking for someone who shares the same musical influences that i do. i
know a couple of people who play music, but i just can't seem to find the
right people to play with (maybe because i only know about three or four
other people who play music).
i used to be in a band called Tribal Sex, i'm sure no one has heard
of us (because quite frankly, we sucked! but, we did have our moments)
there were five of us in this little band of ours. well, anyway it didn't
last. non of them liked the same type of music that i liked. and i kept my
feelings to myself, all they ever wanted to play was 'originals'. and i
didn't completely agree with that. i believe a band has to feed off of
other (good) bands that already have great music (alice in chains,
soundgarden, drown, prong, self, stp, etc....) and then when they can at
least play a 'cover' tune well enough that someone else who listens can
actually say, "you played that anthrax song pretty good" or what ever.
ok, ok, ok. all i'm trying to say is........... I WANT SOMEONE TO
PLAY WITH!
i don't mean it in a perverted way (unless your a woman..... just kidding)
i've been wanting to join a band that can play good music and still have a
good time doing it.
or even someone who can hold a note. well i just wanted to get that off my
chest.

actually no, you may be the only 'drummer', but not the only
'person'. i play guitar. but i enjoy playing the drums (whenever i have
access to some) when i don't, i play 'air' drums with what ever i can get my
hands on!
i read an article where a musician said that you will never have a
good grasp of the true meaning of melody, until you learn to play the piano.
and in the same article he stated that you will never have a good sense of
rhythm until you learn to play the drums.
matt is one of the greats...... you should try listening to the tea
party's jeff burrows (i believe), he does some very good work as well. i
saw them live, here in san antonio, and they were unbelievable!!!! at the
end of their set all three members of the band were playing purcussion
instruments! it was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
a great band is one who can play great music, and at the same time
put on a great show. for example drown, they are so energetic in concert!
all of the band members were shouting the lyrics, it surprized me how great
of a show they put on while on tour with prong (another great band that puts
on a good show!)
soundgarden has some of the best music around, but i only wish that
they would move around more in concert: jumping, kicking, yelling, that kind
of stuff. i have badmotorvision and they performed better in the video that
when i saw them live....... (maybe it was because i was trying to pick up my
bodyparts off the ground in the mosh pit most of the time! i don't know).

Smashing Pumpkins (BC, in fact) are overrated? How come? You judge a
musician solely on his technical abilities? Lemme guess, Yngvie Malmsteen
is your ultimate musician? C'mon. Technical ability by no means equals
artistic value. Billy Corgan's strenght isn't in his guitar slinging (and
he lakcs nothing in that deparment, BTW), but in his songwriting and
production capabilities, and I bet you can't deny that with a straight
face.
