Temple of the Dog, They Might Be Giants, Candlebox, Savatage, King's X,
STP, King Missile, Black Crows, Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie,
Beastie Boys, and many others. Oh, yeah, Vanilla Ice, too.

I've only heard him on Louder Love, and I love that album so much that
I don't really care.

JE>Who else misses Hiro from the lineup?

I liked some of the songs he wrote. The ones he wrote have the same
characteristics of the ones Kim writes, so I don't miss him too much.

LE>Does anyone else like Mudhoney or Green River?

Nope. In fact, I don't like Mudhoney at all. At least what I've heard
from them. I have a album that looks a lot like one of Mudhoney's

Hey

Has everyone gotten there Soundgarden Christmas card yet? If you didnt you
really should join the fanclub and get on the mailing list.

Well the card is really cool. Last time they sent a christmas card before a
release (ie Superunknown) It contained a preview of the new albums artwork.
That christmas card had the picture of the blurred, screaming face with the
inverted trees at the bottom. In the middle it had the text 'superholidays'.
 Neat!

This card is a picture of a fictional city landscape. It resembles the
skyline to seattle but it's different. The city appears to be on two
different tiers. The right side of the picture, which contains the 'heart'
of the 'scape, appears to be on a hill because it's elevated. The left side
contains smaller buildings in the distance and it's lower than the right
side. Both of these appear very real. The center contains my fave image of
the entire work. It's a shot of a major arterial running through the middle
of the city. There are 4 lanes. Two inbound and Two outbound in alternating
patterns. inbound, outbound, inbound, outbound (from right to left). The
inbound lane contains a red blur of the cars tail lights. That red glow
stretches all along the arterial. Then there is the blurred image of white
lights from the cars headlights coming out of the 'scape. This also
transverses all along the arterial. So what you have is a blurred light
sequence alternating red, white, red, white. Very, very cool! It appears to
be the image of electricity running through a conduit. The electricity being
the lifeline of the city. (ie the people) On the arterial you can even make
out those green highway signs. You cant read them...but you can see em. The
rightmost inbound lane contains 4 pine trees at the beginning of the view.
Could these 4 trees symbolize the 4 members of SG? I think so. The only
thing that appears fake in the center shot is the light posts. They appear
to be drawn in. They are projecting light onto the arterial, but the tops of
the post are dark. Next time I hope the designer remembers to make em
lighter and draw more of em.

It's nighttime, there are stars (or white dots) in the sky. There appears
to be a dence fog rolling in from the west (or ocean). And their are 3
objects in the night sky. A fake starfish shape behind the main buildings on
the right. a 'ying-yang' type symbol in the middle. It could be an S to
signify Soundgarden.

Then on the left is a Giant 'spoke-like' ship. It appears to be 'rolling' or
moving toward the center arterial. Could it be that it's planning to cut the
conduit of the city? I've seen the artwork for the spokes of the ship
before. I think? It was shown on the backdrops to the last concert tour.
The artwork looks like a F shapped pick. Or think of two F's back to back.

The whole spoke ship thing reminds me of Godzilla destroying the city of
Toyko in those classic b movies of the 50's and 60's. Now there is a song
that Soundgarden would sound great covering. A cover of Blue Oyster Cult's
"Godzilla"! Take a listen to BOC's live versions on _some enchanted evening_
or _ETI Live_. Good stuff.

This whole image is centered on an approximate 6" by 4" postcard. White a
white border appearing on the top and bottom. Sort of letterboxing the whole
image. The top border contains the words (in script) "Season's Greetings"
and the bottom text uses the superunknown font to say "Soundgarden"

hi Tim

Favorite album: 1. Screaming life (ep i know)
		2. Louder than Love
		3. Badmotorfinger

Favorite Songs	1. Little Joe, Tears to Forget, Mailman, Jesus Christ Pose,
		   Loud Love.

Favorite Band Member: Chris. He makes the band. Matt is the best drummer
alive, I don't care much for some of the songs Ben
writes(half and head down, I believe), and I've
never had an opinion either way about Kim except that
                      he's kind of arrogant but
                      what does that matter?

CD plus: I have it but have yet to find a computer to use it on. As for
the audio part, I wish it had new and/or different stuff.

Songs I don't care for: I awake, Head Down, Spoonman, a few on ultramegaok.

Unplugged?: I agree w/ Brian(?). Soundgarden,no. But Chris Cornell would be
wonderful. Nothing against the band (I love them) but
unplugged is the last thing I want to hear them do. However,I
think I would die of joy if Temple of the Dog could do unplugged

Other Bands that Sound Like Soundgarden:
GRUNTRUCK! definitely the vocals and some
of the music but they're missing something. I don't know.

My friend Jon always teases me and says "what's this Judas Priest shit?"
when he hears soundgarden. I'm failing to see the similarity.

There is a smashing Pumpkins song that I heard the other day and I
thought "god this would be a great sg song" I don't like the singer,
but the song reminded me of sg."

well that's it. someone write me...

Soundgarden are still hard at work at Stone Gossard's Litho Studio in
Seattle recording their follow-up to 1993's Superunknown. As you might
suspect, they're producing it themselves. At this stage in the
recording process, the group is keeping song titles to themselves, and
hasn't yet settled on a name for the album. A June release is
   expected--but don't hold your breath.

Metallica, Patti Smith, Stooges, Soundgarden For Lollapalooza'96?

Addicted To Noise exclusive: Metallica is at the top of the
Lollapalooza brain trust's list to headline this summer's traveling
festival. The dream lineup would also include Patti Smith, a reformed
version of the original Stooges (featuring the one and only Iggy Pop,
natch), Soundgarden and, get this, Waylon Jennings. While a
Lollapalooza spokesperson tells us that no formal offers have yet been
made to any artist, we understand that feelers have been put out to
the appropriate parties. We also hear that Metallica are being courted
heavily, and that if they agree to sign on for the tour, they want to
pick two of the bands that will appear on the main stage. And who do
the boys in black want to perform with? Soundgarden and outlaw country
star Waylon Jennings. "That very may well turn out to be the lineup, "
said a source close to the action. "On the other hand, remember last
year everyone was talking about Neil Young, Snoop Dogg, and a reformed
   Clash and it never happened."

The reason I got into Soundgarden a few years ago was because of
Rolling Stone magazine. I know it's not British, but I'm saying it
anyway, so LISTEN! Anyway, I read a reveiw of their next album
(Superunknown, it was their next album then, anyway) and something just
drew me to it. I rushed to the store (after it came out, of course)
and bought the Superunknown tape (I didn't have a CD player. I'm poor,
ok?). I listened to it once and I didn't like it a whole lot. Then a
while later (a couple weeks) I listened to it again and I loved it. So
I bought Louder Than Love (still tape, I was workin' on the CD player
thing) and it was cool. But I didn't like it as much as Superunknown,
but now I like it a whole lot more than I did then. I think it's close
to the top on my best album list. Then I bought all the rest of their
albums (CDs, of course...except Ultramega OK, but I was poor then too.
Soundgarden on tape is better than no Soundgarden at all). It took a
while to get used to each album, but after a few listens, I loved every
album. now I have a hard time picking my favorite (right now it would
have to be Louder Than Love, of course I'm listening to
Badmotorfinger). Anyway, the moral of the story is: If there's a
piece of cheese on the floor, and the nutcracker is in the car, don't
hesitate to look in the fridge for more beer.

Definately. If it weren't for him they'd have about two albums and Ben
singing. Or Kim, but then it'd all sound like Exit Stonehenge.

JY> Matt is the best drummer alive,

...in the Superunknown, of course.

JY>I don't care much for some of the songs Ben writes(half and head down, I

I dunno. Some of his songs aren't bad. And he's not a half bad singer
either. He's no Chris, but, hey, who is?

JY> and I've never had an opinion either way about Kim except that
JY> he's kind of arrogant but what does that matter?

No. I can't agree here. I read an interview about his guitar playing,
and he said he's confident about it, and he knows he's pretty good, but
he knows he could be a lot better. He said it different, though, and
it sounded much more...what's the word...unarrogant...you know... he
is a hell of a guitar player though. You can really notice his ability
when you see him on Motorvision. He's great.

JY>Unplugged?: I agree w/ Brian(?). Soundgarden,no. But Chris Cornell would be

Wow. The thought of a Temple of the Dog unplugged......

JY>My friend Jon always teases me and says "what's this Judas Priest shit?"
JY>when he hears soundgarden. I'm failing to see the similarity.

Rob Halford's scream kinda sounds a bit like Chris' (when he gets
carried away I mean). Not that Rob could even come close to matching
the ability of Chris though.

JY>There is a smashing Pumpkins song that I heard the other day and I
JY>thought "god this would be a great sg song" I don't like the singer,

If you listen to Smashing Pumpkins (the harder stuff, and ignore the
singer) and then listen to White Zombie (mostly stuff off la
Sexorcisto, and again ignore the singer) the guitars and drums sound a
lot alike. It's amazing how much a singer can change the whole sound
of a band.

Room a Thousand Years Wide kicks ass. Also Mind Riot and Drawing

Well, right at this moment Black Crowes are blasting on my walkman... And
in my pocket there is Mad Season and Portishead. But I listen to whole
range of music. From obvious Pearl Jam, Smashing PUmpkins, Alice In
Chains, to blues classics, to some heavier stuff like Pantera or Megadeth,
to some punk bands and to unlikely choices as Counting Crowes, Paul Simon
or Annie Lennox... So, I guess you can't take me as your average SG fan.

Here's a entry from todays Music News Of The World, in online rock

Metallica, Patti Smith, Stooges, Soundgarden For Lollapalooza'96?

Addicted To Noise exclusive: Metallica is at the top of the Lollapalooza
brain trust's list to headline this summer's traveling festival. The dream
lineup would also include Patti Smith, a reformed version of the original
Stooges (featuring the one and only Iggy Pop, natch), Soundgarden and, get
this, Waylon Jennings. While a Lollapalooza spokesperson tells us that no
formal offers have yet been made to any artist, we understand that feelers
have been put out to the appropriate parties. We also hear that Metallica
are being courted heavily, and that if they agree to sign on for the tour,
they want to pick two of the bands that will appear on the main stage. And
who do the boys in black want to perform with? Soundgarden and outlaw
country star Waylon Jennings. "That very may well turn out to be the
lineup, " said a source close to the action. "On the other hand, remember
last year everyone was talking about Neil Young, Snoop Dogg, and a
reformed Clash and it never happened."

I got this really wicked import of SG called Fortissimo, and Jason Everman

Anyway, onto the CD.

There are 8 tracks, namely:

Beyond the Wheel
Get on the Snake
Hunted Down
I awake
Gun
Big Dumb Sex
Big Bottom
Earache My Eye

It is 38:19 in length, and a recording of a concert somewhere. The only
location listed anywhere is on the cd itself which says it was made in
Italy.
The last two tracks are absolutely wicked. I was wondering if these tracks
are on any other cd worth buying? Also, the pictures of Chris and gang are

Well thanks to anyone who read this, and answered my question.

bootleg call nosebleed which he is on the cover of w/ the band. If his

the Reading festival) about an abusive relationship. It benfits a
worthy cause to bring women home alive late at night after the death
of Mia Zapata(did i spell that right?). Anyway it will also have a
song from (gasp) Pearl Jam so check it out.

Some of you may remember a little idea I had: the Soundgarden Mailing
List Member Directory, a Web page devoted to us, in order that we all
get to know each other better, since this mailing list is -- when you
think about it -- the closest thing to an oniline fan club that
Soundgarden has.

The page should have photos of everyone, and descriptions, etc., so
you can check them out and then if you see someone at a show, you can
say hello or whatever. Like one big dysfunctional family.

The good news is that I've gotten my lazy ass in gear and scanned the
photos of those of you who have sent them to me -- at this point,
there are only 9 pictures in the directory. I know many of you have
submitted personal descriptions, and I promise, I'll get to those
soon.

For now, the Member Directory is at http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/list
- -- which is not linked to the rest of the Unofficial SG Page. Please
take a look, submit descriptions, send me pictures, etc., and
remember, I'm not letting this idea die no matter how much you ignore
me, so you might as well participate.

Well, I love the Black Crows. I love Portishead. I still listen to
rap. And the obvious ones, too. I, too, like blues. BB King is the
greatest. And no matter what anyone says, the 80s still rule. Annie
Lennox had that cool boo boo boo boo aahh-ah song (ok, so she stole it,
it was still cool). I also own To the Extreme by Vanilla Ice. Damn,
I'm smooth. I guess I'm not an average Soundgarden fan either.

Jason Everman played with Nirvana for a while, then went to Soundgarden
after Hiro left. He was asked to leave by the band because he didn't
fit in. Chris said he was like a typical rock star. he loved the
spotlight and totally clashed with the rest of the band. They had
known Ben from something before, so they asked him to be their new bass
player. I have Louder Love, which was released sometime after Loud
Love (duh) and Jason played on this.

Matt wrote Drawing Flies. It does kick ass though. I've noticed that
generally, when Kim writes a song, it's pretty heavy and guitar laden
(hey, he's a guitar player. I'd do it too). And when Hiro was in the
band, his were pretty heavy too. Chris writes all kinds f stuff, so
I'm not even gonna start on his, but his heavier ones sound similar
(style wise) to Kim's. Matt seems to be pretty diverse, for a drummer
(no offense to drummers, but they don't usually write too many songs),
too. I think it's pretty cool that Chris playes guitar and drums, and
Matt does too. It's just great that they can all share what they think
about they different instruments. That's probably one reason they do
so well together as a band. Well, back to the styles. Ben's songs are
usually slow and drudgy (is that a word?). Either that or it's Half.

I like SP, but Billy is weak on some of the vocals. Rob Zombie sucks
as a singer, but it fits well. Kinda like Les Claypool with Primus.
Can you imagine Primus with a real singer?

I think the original is by Devo, but I could be wrong. They did it at

Great idea, but how big should the pictures be? Like the size of my
drivers licence picture, or wallet size, or great, big,

i have a rusty cage cd single and big bottom and earache my eye are on it,
it's some sort of limited edition of 5000 copies from england...the cd
itself looks cool, i think it's tree bark, and the package is similar, very
brown and autumn looking...btw, rusty cage is the 'edit' version...

Hey Nothingman, what do you mean about Primus having a "real" singer?! I
couldn't imagine a more appropriate voice than Les's when yodeling along to
some of their songs! The voice may not be outstanding, but the voice fits the
group and the attitude. Just like Soundgarden. Could you imagine someone else
singing their songs??? How about Billy Corgan whining away on "Fell On black
Days" or Courtney Love screeching to "Slaves and Bulldozers"?! I'm in no way
comparing Les Claypool's vocals to Chris's, there is no comparison. I'm just
saying that alot of people relate the group to the singer and to his or her
sound. With a different singer, it might not be the group that you that you
love now.

Doesn't matter. If you email me a file, I'm going to resize and crop
it as necessary. If you send me a real photo, I'm going to scan it,
and then resize and crop it as necessary.
