Hey Soundgarden fans! Being new to the list, i would like to get a
general idea of what you guys like about Soundgarden. So if you guys
could kindly fill this out for me it would be appriciated! I will
make spreadsheet with all of the final results.

2 Favorite Albums:
Badmotorfinger and Superunknown.

2 Favorite Songs:
My Wave and Black Sabbath tune they put on the bonus CD that came
with Batmotorfinger.

Favorite Band Member:
None.

Rating of CD+-(with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest)
Have not seen this yet.

2 Songs that don't make your fancy:
Kickstand and ?

Do you think Soundgarden should do an Unplugged performance?
Would be nice but I don't think MTV will ever let it happen.

and finally......

What other bands would you say sound like Soundgarden?
Temple of the Dog(HA!)

1.Albums:
Superunknown
Badmotorfinger

2.Songs
Hands All Over
Outshined

3.Band Member
Chris

4.CD+
1, because it doesn't run on my cd-rom drive, and there was no way to
know if it would run without buying the product. Also, I already had
all of the songs on the CD.

5.Non-favorite Songs
Circle Of Power
FOPP Remix-Like the original version, though.

6.Unplugged
Soundgarden, no. Chris Cornell, yes. He'd be great.

7.Other bands
Hmm...this is a tough one. Black Sabbath is the only band that
really comes to mind.

Good questions!!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!! I read the book by Chris Nickson a while ago. And
you are exactly right the author didn't get anywhere near the band or many
people that even knew them. I wondered if he's even been to Seattle!! I
learned a little about the early years that I didn't know but other than that
not much else. I think the British press picks the "band, person or whatever"
of the moment and lavishes praise on them (Oasis being an example) and they
like to slag everyone else it seems to me. As with Soundgarden maybe they
just don't get their "American" sense of humor!-T

Sure i'll fill it out :o)

I think I would have to give it a 10 concidering it has a video for
kickstand.

>2 Songs that don't make your fancy:
Hmm I only have one: One Minute of Silence. (would that count?)

>Do you think Soundgarden should do an Unplugged performance?
Possibly. Some of their songs would sound good unplugged. But let's be
realistic could you see any of them sitting playing acoustic for an hour? I
couldn't. Maybe Chris or Matt but not Kim and definitly not Ben.

>and finally......

I can't think of any.

You're very welcome :)

S0>>Favorite Band Member: Chris ( It's Chris Cornell what more can you say?)

Well, you could say he writes the best damn songs this side of the sun,
he has the best voice in the galaxy, he's backed up by some of the best
musicians ever, and he wears a fork. Also, he has a great sense of
humor. :)

S0>>2 Songs that don't make your fancy:
S0>Hmm I only have one: One Minute of Silence. (would that count?)

Nope. It's by John Lennon. Or at least he was the first to call that
blank space at the end of the tape something.

S0>>Do you think Soundgarden should do an Unplugged performance?
S0>Possibly. Some of their songs would sound good unplugged. But let's be
S0>realistic could you see any of them sitting playing acoustic for an hour? I
S0>couldn't. Maybe Chris or Matt but not Kim and definitly not Ben.

I dunno. I could see Kim doing it. If he trimmed his beard, combed
his hair, put on little round glasses and wore nice clothes, I'd bet
he'd look really smart and sophisticated. So he wouldn't have his
feedback and stuff. They probaby wouldn't play those songs anyway.
But Ben...he'd trash the stage before the finished the first song.

S0>>What other bands would you say sound like Soundgarden?
S0>I can't think of any.

Someone mentioned King's X before, and I'd have to agree with them. I
just didn't think of it when I filled out my survey.

S0>>Thanks!!
S0>You're very welcome :)
And welcome again.

happy new year, all.

i think my resolution will be to write one of my famous 10+ page
breakdowns in response to every issue addressed on this group
(remember the pj vs. sg debate?)...ok, maybe not. :)

well, let's get right into it...

badmotorfinger and superunknown.

> 2 Favorite Songs:
yow...well, how about loud love and fell on black days. oooh, what
about room 1000 yrs wide...and head down...and...and...jeezuz. ok,
stick with the first two.

> Favorite Band Member:
hmmm...how about chris.

> Rating of CD+-(with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest)
can't help you here.

> 2 Songs that don't make your fancy:
half and i awake.

> Do you think Soundgarden should do an Unplugged performance?
definitely. i'm not going to hold my breath though. but the day i see
head down unplugged is the day i can die and be truly happy.

> and finally......
>
> What other bands would you say sound like Soundgarden?
well, this is difficult to answer. if you're talking about just tone
(guitar sound, how vocals and instruments are miked, etc.) then i guess
you could bring up other bands like stone temple pilots, helmet, maybe
even bush. the problem is that musically, soundgarden is far superior to
all of these bands and their style really isn't reflected by any other
band on the market today. i think you have to go back to the likes of
led zeppelin to find a band with the experimental nature and diverse
musical style of soundgarden. does that answer the question??? :)

later...

"Guess who just got back today?
That wild-eyed boy that had been away...
Haven't changed - Had much to say
But man I still think them cats are crazy...
They were asking if you were around
"How you was" and "Where could you be found"
I told em you were living downtown
Driving all the (people) crazy." - P. Lynott

FYI: The introductory music to SG's '95 tour of Europe was "Jerry Garcia's
Finger".

Survey's: I love survey's :-)

2 Fave SG albums: Badmotorfinger and Ultramega OK

2 Fave SG songs: "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Flower"

Fave SG member: Eric Johnson

2 Least Fave SG songs: Black Hole Sun and Spoonman

Rating of CD-Plus: Incomplete or "I". Would someone like to donate a couple
SIMM 4M chips to me :-)

The Unplugged thing: NO They should not. The (present: hint, hint) music
doesnt conform to an unplugged performance. When Kim does his Peter Buck
impersonation and throws away his electric guitar to play a...sitar, acoustic
guitar or mandolin: Then they are ready for an unplugged performance.

Bands that sound like SG: Hmmm where do you start:

Smoked Tempah Pierogis
Silverhighchair
Helmet (Just the one song "In the Meantime")
The band that did "Fool's Shine On"
Kingdom Come
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Jimi Hendrix
Beatles

And a cast of thousands that are just learning how to play a guitar.

I think that's it.

Seth,

I'm sorry to report, but Chris never wrote out the lyrics for the Ultramega
OK album. We can only guess as well as you to what he is saying. There are no
lyrics for Screaming Life, either.

Subject: alternate recordings

i know a lot of cds have been mentioned with alternate recordings of SG
songs, but i found one called "deep six". it has a bunch of seattle bands
on it, i think all of them from sub pop, and it has versions of tears to
forget, heretic, and all your lies that are different from the ones on
the albums/soundtracks. i got them for a friend for christmas (giving is
better than receiving) so i haven't heard them yet, but he says they're
really quite swell. anyone else heard of or seen this compilation. it
also has like green river (and a really freaky picture of jeff ament with
hair like axl rose had in the welcome to the jungle video. blah), among
some of the other really obscure seattle people.
