Don't expect Soundgarden, but it's worth the money. Matt and Ben don't
sing on the whole album. Ben plays the guitar instead of bass. The
singer is Brain Wood (maybe Andy's relative?).

Hater played a show in seattle on Halloween & Ben Shepherd is now singing

I don't know if you are joking, I suspect not but I don't think he meant John
Wayne as in "get off your horse and drink your milk", cowboys and Indians,
cliched western bullshit, I think he meant John Wayne GACY of raping and
murdering little boys in Chicago fame, some people eh?

You are indeed NOT the only person on this list who believes Purple is better
than Core. Sure Core has some great heavy tracks on there but I think some
tend to go on too long, as if they are just ensuring that the hook digs itself
into our brains, also Core is a more derivative album than Purple and hence
wears its influences on its sleeve more, regardless of whether it was a
calculated bandwagon jumper or not. Purple is a far more mature and original
sounding album, tracks like Vaseline and Interstate Love Song just burst out
of the speakers (well, they do mine!!), Vaseline is one of the most danceable
rock tracks i've ever heard, with some great drumming from Eric Kretz, i'm sick
of all these righteous fans slagging them off just because they think that STP
are fakers, to me they write amazing music, and ok, they may not have the
inventive, unique qualities that Soundgarden have and maybe came onto the scene
at exactly the wrong time to be taken seriously but they piss on so many other
bands in terms of songwriting ability and great singalong melodies that I have
to say to all you snobs out there, its you missing out cos' I know if you sat
down and actually listened to their music you would like it.

Hey all,

This weekend I wallowed in the blood and mud and I learned that I was a liar.
And I don't say 'one more time around' anymore.

If your curiosity is piqued, I'd love to invite you all to join me Tuesday
night December 12th in Edison, New Jersey, USA at the Landmark Education

Hello there list pals,
Since the list shuts down in two days I thought I would unleash my
thoughts on all 400+ of you. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to
hear the live version of Beyond The Wheel know that even though the
original one kicked ass the new version shits all over it. We also know
that the live version of Jesus Christ Pose shits all over the album
version. Does that mean in 7 years that the live version of Head down will
shit all over the studio one. It seems to be pleasant trend, hell it seems
like Room a Thousand Years wide gets better by the day. Anyway just a
weird thought I was having while screaming the words to beyond the wheel
at the top of my lungs last night. It's finals week and I am losing my
sanity. Btw has anyone heard Fourth Of July or Fresh Tendrils live, I have

I would just like to agree. TOTD is my favorite CD, every song is

opinion, it is some of Chris Cornell's best songwriting.

All those songs don't feature Eddie Vedder, except Pushing forward back.. I
reckon the best song of the lot was Hunger Strike (IMHO)

I don't know if this answers your question...

When I sent $8 to join the SG fan club (Knights of the Soundtable) in late
'93, I received a package in the mail including a band bio, a button,
stickers, and a CD entitled "Poncier" (like Cliff from Singles). This CD
has Seasons, a different version of Spoonman, Flutter Girl, Missing, and
Nowhere But You on it. There's no information on the CD cover except for a
phony address (the letter I sent there got returned). I don't know the
story behind this CD but I figure this was probably the most
official/professional version you'll find, since it came from the fan club.
I hear that all these songs are now available on various bootleg cds.
This is just my speculation, but it seems like these are just a handful of
songs Chris did by himself for fun. Who knows...

liked purple a lot more than core, because their song writing is so much
better by their second album. the songs are much more diverse on purple,
and aren't quite as 'butt-rocky' as core. not that core is an uncool

stone has gone on record as saying that matt is by far the best
rock drummer going around these days, and that he'd love to be in a band
with him. good to see that he understands :) as for him being better
than all the pearl jam drummers (isn't it a shame that you have to use
*all* in that sentence? pearl jam are turning into spinal tap or
something), I have to agree. but dave a isn't too far behind him in
terms of skill and sheer ferocity in live shows. which is more than can
be said for ole' jack :(

in addition to being an exceptional drummer, I admire matt's
ability to write music. especially the songs he contributed to
superunknown, like mailman, limo wreck and fresh tendrils. there aren't a
lot of bands around that have drummers who can write such good songs, and
the overall sound of soundgarden's (didn't that sound bad?) music would be
very different. not to overlook what his drum sound does for the band.
chris may have written the main riff for jcp, but I'm sure that he didn't
figure out that wacky drum beat :)

not a weird thought at all clown (btw, do you come in a christmas
edition, with pull-string and realistic ho-ho-ho sounds?). there's a lot
to be said for playing old songs, when it comes to soundgarden. I'd
wager that if they re-recorded screaming life, it would sound about ten
times better, and not just because of mixing and more production. those
songs are really raw (not that that is a bad thing) and it sounds like
chris is only just getting used to using his throat after jumping down
off the drum riser :)

so yeah, it is a pleasant trend. they must have more skill with
and control over their instruments these days, and can get more out of
the songs, especially the ones they recorded seven years ago. I know that
I'd rather listen to littlejoe done live now than I would listen to that
godawful first pressing :)

I remember hearing people say that they were Pearl Jam rip offs, but I
don't think they sounded too much like Pearl Jam. I mean, they are in

I absolutely LOVE that album. Chris and Eddie together on Hunger
Strike just kicks ass (Chris on first verse, Eddie on second, and both
after that). Eddie didn't have much to do with the writing, though.
Although I don't think he could've hurt it any. Pushin' Forward Back,
and Hunger Strike were the only ones Eddie was in (I think, but I still
haven't heard him on Pushin'...). I love that part in Reach Down where
Chris sings that 4 part thing. He just wails over himself! Times Of
Trouble is the greatest. "If somebody loved you and left you for
dead..." That's a great line. All Night Thing has the coolest tinkly
piano in the background of the secnd chorus. It gives me chills. Call
Me A Dog...wow. Just shows how much of a gentleman Chris is. "When
it's my time....I'll call you beautiful, if I call at all." Well, so

Ok, here's mine:

Little Joe (kicked ass on Motorvision)
Loud Love
Gun (I love this song, besides, Kim said that when they play it live,
Matt gets carried away with the tempo and plays so fast that the rest
of them can't keep up. That would be cool to see...my favorite band
mess up. :)
Big Dumb Sex (so it's silly. It still rocks.)
Rusty Cage
Jesus Christ Pose
Drawing Flies (I can't get enough of this song)
Mind Riot (blew me away on Motorvision)
Fell On Black Days (something like the video version)
Let Me Drown (this would be a freakin' awesome opener...gets attention
fast)
Something from Temple Of The Dog, like Your Savior. I think
Soundgarden should release this themselves.
Maybe even Kickstand, and a few others. It's really hard to decide,
because I like so many songs. I think the first part is a pretty good
one though.
Oh, I forgot ULTRAMEGA OK!
They definately need to play Smokestack Lightning (even though it's not
theirs)
and that song before Beyond the Wheel (not the 665->667 thing, but the
second song, I think. It just totally left my mind. Anyone have the
lyrics to that song?)
Well, I think that just about covers everything that Soundgarden has
released. :)

I dunno...Chris was the original drummer in Soundgarden. Kim and Hiro
were the guitar players, and Chris was the drummer and singer. He
decided drumming was limiting his vocal ability, so they got Matt.
Chris has been playing drums since he was 15, although I'm sure he's
not as good as Matt. I also hear Matt's pretty good on guitar. After
all, he did write the music for Room a Thousand Years Wide, and that
riff just rocks. That would be cool to see Matt playing the guitar,

I think that when a singer writes a song, he or she generally
leaves it up to the drummer as to how the drums are going to be played.
and even though chris does have a history of playing drums (and I'd be
very interested in hearing just how good he is), he would in most cases
let matt make up his own mind on the percussion side of things. the same
would hold true for ben and his bass. I read that ben wrote the bass
line for fell on black days, but he doesn't get any credit for it on the
record (the way it should be). so considering that the whole band gets
credit for jcp, the drums were probably matt's domain.
