I once read an article (melody maker??) that said it was about some kid
wishing the sun would swallow the earth or something. I can't see what that
has to do with the video, except maybe that bit at the end when everything
goes fucked. It seems like a case of the video and the song not being *about*
the same thing.

On the subject of shirts, has anyone ever seen this shirt that says "Alice in
the Temle of Pearl Garden"?(combining the logos for each of the bands) I have
only ever seen one shirt like it other than mine, and I only know of one shop
where you can buy it. Can you people outside the UK buy it? I thought it was
pretty cool, as long as you like all the bands :)

I'd like to start of apologizing if fucked up messages appear on here from
me. My program i use to access won't let me use backspace, i have to use
delete...sometimes i accidentally use it.(sorry) Anyway, i just would like
to say that i think it is incredible that people 30 or 40 listen to SG. I
never really thought about it, but i just look at my dad and think "why not
Sg...why Diana Ross?!?!" So i would just like to say "wow" to you oldied
who love the same stuff as us. Keep it up!
As for the CNE concert, i had a tear in my eye and felt proud to be a
Canadian when Eddie and Chris said that this was a beautiful country and if
they ever needed a safe, nice place to live they would come here (yeah, i
wish!). Thanks guys! I just wish they would need some temporary safety
more often (sigh).
Lisa, i have ONE SG t-shirt...you are a goddess! I love this shirt, though
because it is a real funky concert t-shirt with the purple and green and
yellow pattern on it. I'm sure others have it also, but it is one of my
prized possessions (my bf..actually ex-bf as of two days ago...hates it and
never wants me to wear it, even though he was there with me at the
concert..MEN! (?)) I just can't wait to get another concert
t-shirt...pleeeeease come soon!!

lates,
jen

p.s GREG - about the PJ song, my ex heard two new songs on The Nerve (if
nobody's heard of it, it is a wicked all alternative station out of Buffalo
i think..95.5 and 95.1). There is a PJ cd that was just released that has
only two songs on it i guess. It is called something-"ball". I'm not sure
if that has anything to do with the Neil Young cd "Mirrorball" that they
are on or not. I guess they are great songs..haven't heard them myself.
I'd also like to say that i am glad to see another PJ fan on here that can
take sides with me in case of flames. :)

Colorado (brrrr!).
I, myself, live in Portland. Is there anyone else on the list
located in the "Bever State"? Gawd, I get a lotta shit about that. If any of
you are interested lets get a SG gathering together sometime? Hell, we could
probably get some Seattle/Washingtonians to come too. Post up if you are in
the region.
If people are interested in a gathering send me a message directly

Subject: my dissertation on selling out, or something

i was talking to a friend of mine last night who writes for one of the
local papers and is in his own band, and we both agree that selling out
is just the opposite of what a lot of people have been implying. i feel
that green day sold out by continuing to make the same music over and
over and over, ad nauseum. soundgarden has continued to move in a
direction that defines what music is today, and how people will react to
it. soundgarden doesn't write their music to please other people, other
people kind of jump on the bandwagon. superunknown was nothing like
badmotorfinger was nothing like louder than love. before that, the albums
still show an evolution, but not to the degree of the others listed
above. so much of what is popular in music today isn't determined by
talent, but by the record companies themselves. good bands like sloan,
among many others, attain only limited success and popularity, while
bands like collective soul, who lack creativity and integrity, get shoved
to the top because their label dumps tons of money into them. what gets
played on the radio is pretty much determined by the record companies,
who gets a contract, who stays with their contract, who gets their
records released, these are all determined by the record companies, not
the bands, and certainly not the public. i just fail to see how
continuing to evolve in new ways is considered selling out, especially in
soundgarden's case, where they didn't follow anyone else's lead, but
actually determined the way music would go. there was never anything out
there like superunknown before it came out. now that i have gone on ad
nauseum...

So cool to hear about who Kate McDonald is and where those lyrics came
from. I can't remember who posted that, but thanks. It makes me glad
that I'm on the list. It adds depth in a really personal way to a song I
already liked. And her name's Kate. you gotta love that.

Frizzle Fry-- yep, that show would be the one. It was technically my
first concert, too. I mean, the first one that I really wanted to be
at. Heaven for me, noise ordinances or not. We snuck in early to that
one, and army crawled across the top knolls. After watching sound check
for a while, and watching cameron watching the soundcheck from the upper
walkway... he went down and told on us and they kicked us out. Oh,
well. It was an honor.

Pop Tart Dan-- Hey, Humboldt! I'm here too! Are there any others??

This is just a little teasing to the person who had that theory about the
"Louder Than Live" video. Why would the fact that Susan and Chris don't have
kids mean he's bi? Think about it: Chris has been touring for a good part of
the past few years. Susan managed not only SG,but AIC too. When would they
have had time to raise a child? I suppose they could leave it to a nanny, but
most modern parents don't want the nanny to have the main childrearing
responsibility. Today, the nanny is more like a babysitter than a substitute
parent. As for Jason Everman, if Chris were into guys, I think his taste
would be better than that. Have you read the Nirvana biography "Come as you
are"? Everman was once a member of Nirvana and their impressions of him were
not favorable. Kurt thought he acted like "a peacock on amphetamines".

BI>people kind of jump on the bandwagon. superunknown was nothing like
BI>badmotorfinger was nothing like louder than love. before that, the albums
BI>still show an evolution, but not to the degree of the others listed
BI>above. so much of what is popular in music today isn't determined by
BI>talent, but by the record companies themselves. good bands like sloan,
BI>among many others, attain only limited success and popularity, while
BI>bands like collective soul, who lack creativity and integrity, get shoved
BI>to the top because their label dumps tons of money into them. what gets
BI>played on the radio is pretty much determined by the record companies,
BI>who gets a contract, who stays with their contract, who gets their
BI>records released, these are all determined by the record companies, not
BI>the bands, and certainly not the public. i just fail to see how
BI>continuing to evolve in new ways is considered selling out, especially in
BI>soundgarden's case, where they didn't follow anyone else's lead, but
BI>actually determined the way music would go. there was never anything out
BI>there like superunknown before it came out. now that i have gone on ad
BI>nauseum...

That's what I've been telling people for years...

AU>boy are you an idoit!!!! Pearl Jam ripped off Nirvana.
AU>Liking Soundgarden should help you realize that they and Nirvana are the onl
AU>two TRUE alternative pioneeres. Pearl Jam is a great Top Forty alternative
AU>group. Wake up Mr. Seattlr
AU>e!!!

I never knew what Nirvana was. But I don't think Pearl Jam is writing
songs just to get on the radio, like some bands do. I mean, how much
do you hear Pearl Jam on the radio? I don't hear them much, except for
a couple select songs. They write some good music that deserves to be
heard anyway. Not that Green Day shit that doesn't deserve all the
attention. Don't get me wrong, I think Pearl Jam is a bit too
overrated too, but they deserve it more than most bands...like Green
Day and NIN. Do you really think all those cheer leader preppie people
REALLY like NIN that much? They're just jumping on the bandwagon to be
"cool."
