Subject: Lost Angels, Strings, Shows, Django

1) i am the only person i know who is in possesion of the Lost Angels
soundtrack. Found it today & bought it. I have been extensively
searching record sotres and asking around for two months. Does anyone
know how many copies of this are in circulation? (Is it really as rare
as it seems?)
2) i was looking at an old guitar school magazine and there was a
reference to Kim in a Dream Theater transcription. The author was
explaining tuning the low E down to low B in order to be able to play
"Caught in A Web" in the right octave. The author then proceeds to tell
you what any person who has ever tuned a guitar could tell you, than when
you tune this far down, the strings get looser. He says that to
counteract this, use thicker strings. "Soundgarden's Kim Thayil, who
regularly tunes his top string to B, uses .060 for his top string."
I also know that Kim uses Ernie Ball's The thickest Ernie Ball's i've
found end at .052. Anyone know where i could get my hands on some Ernie
Ball's in the .056-.066 range without having to pay 12 bucks for a set of
bass strings?
3) Why would anyone ever put nin before sg at a show? I have seen nin,
and i wasn't even in the 'pit, but still if they had been the opening
band, i would not have the energy for another band afterwards. Also, the
two styles of sg and nin don't fit together. Think about it, imagine
soundgarden covering a nin song. What would they do? Yeah, both bands
have dark lyrics and require difficult drumming, but the music just
doesn't fit or contrast well enough to be the same show.
4) Oh, remember the thread about sg doing covers? How about
"Djangology" by Django Reinhardt?

Ok people you can all go back to your day jobs now. -j

you seem to forget that there is ample video, photos, a game, NEW MUSIC (be
it incidently) and all for $16.98 at Circuit City...
and isn't there also a music only ep that sells for $6 and it has a song
not on the CD+ version (Jerry Garcia's Finger) ?

I read the MTVonline transcript that Steve was kind enough to send me
- -- that was some funny stuff. Anyway, it turns out that the official
transcript was available already, so I grabbed that from AOL and have
made it available for your perusal via the Web page (or, for those of
you who don't want to add your hits to the counter, you can find it
directly at http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/mtv.html).

I haven't yet had time to compare Steve's log to the official file, so
I'm not sure if this one was doctored before it was released to the
public, but for some reason I think it's probably legit...

About this CD+ ripped off thing...first of all, if I remember from the
reading of the AOL chat room transcript from before the release, Chris said
(or SowndGrdn or whatever it was) said that they did it for free. Does this
mean that they don't get any duckets from its sales? If not, then I think
releasing a CD+ with some kick butt video and other stuff (when it works) and
an affordable ep with those rare tracks and a bunch of abstract noise is a
pretty decent thing to do for free. It seems that despite all this talk about
Mrs. Silver ripping off the true fans, that the band not only made available
some hard to get material, but also gave the fans something to do while they
wait for their new album. Think about some of your statements again in this
light.
Secondly, remember that us, probably being some of the more diehard fans
of SG around that most of us have all of these tracks somewhere, whether it be
from import singles or vinyl or whatever. So, of course it seems like a waste
of $. But there are a lot of fans, some may refer to them as "lesser," but
that isn't necessarily true, that have never heard "She Likes Surprises" or
"Like Suicide" acoustic. So take it easy; I think $5 isn't too bad to pay for
some rare material that may never have been heard all on one CD. They could
have easily only made those tracks available on the CD+, and then pissed off
those people who don't own computers and still have to shell out $20. Anyway,
there's my $100,000.02 worth.

I don't think Susan Silver was trying to rip off anyone. From what
I've heard Chris Cornell say about how he hates to rip off his fans, I
don't think he'd let his wife do something like that. besides, I think
we're all forgetting that the music industry is a business also, and if
it weren't, there would be a lot of us that would never hear
Soundgarden. It took me a while to hear of Soundgarden because I live
in a rather secluded area where we don't get things as fast as others
(I still have to go outside to shit...just kidding). I have to drive
an hour just to find a music store with import CDs , and what they do
have, I already bought. I like the CD+ because I can see my favorite
band anytime I want, live and all. the only time I have been able to
see them "live" is on the Motorvision video, and I had to order it
specially because no stores around me carried it.

Dear friends:
I was thinking the other day about Alive in the Superunknown...
You guy are all complaining about the CD+ being sell at $20. Imagine it
here, when it comes out, the disc will be sell at about US$30. And added
to that we just had this fucking devaluation on the peso which made
everything double its price.

	A practical example:
Before the peso fell, you could buy 4 CDs for N$200.
Now, you can buy 1 (one) CD+ for N$240.

						That hurts.

OK, I have heard lots of people saying the cd+ is really good, lots of
people saying it sucks, lots of people saying they can find it, and lots of
people saying they can't find it. I am one of those that can't fin it.

Does anyone know if it has been releases in Canada yet? If so, does anyone
know what sort of stores it can be located in?

I have checked around town a few times, and noone even knows that
Soundgarden has put out this new cd+. Very disappointing I must say.

Any help would be appreciated.

From: jsimpson@mail03.mitre.org (Jamesetta Simpson)

I received this piece of info from a friend.... I know someone out there asked
about Kate McDonald and the credits, so enjoy......

Jamie

Kate is Hiro's girlfriend...she left a note on the kitchen table one
morning and it read 'Woke up depressed. I went to work. Don't worry, its
not your fault. You have a good day, remember, I love you. Kate'. Well
Chris came over later to get Hiro and saw the note while he was waiting
around. He noticed the lyrical opportunity and snatched it up. There was a
little discussion in the studio as to whether to credit anything to a
non-band-member, but of course, the words were hers.

Now, I don't own AITS yet, but I would (and will) gladly pay $20 for that
CD when it is available in Canada. I don't have She Likes Surprises yet,
I've never heard the acoustic version of Like Suicide, and I think the
video version of FOBD is a billion times better than the album version,
and you get a bunch of multimedia stuff to boot. (no pun intended) I
can't see how you could question the integrity of the band this way. The
fact is a new CD is not yet ready, and they wanted to give their fans
something to hold them over. How much do you think they get from each
disc? They're not like Guns 'n Roses who start a media blitz and throw
out a bunch of crappy b-sides every time their heroin stash gets low.
There hasn't been a big campaign to sell this CD+, it's FOR US! That's
the way I see it. Anyone else?

I saw SG open for GN'R on December 9, 1991, in New York City. At that
point, I had never heard of Soundgarden, and I thought they sucked. Go

For those of you too new to remember this added bit of work that the
listadmin assigned himself, check it out at

(and no, it's not been changed since last time I ranted and raved
about it) and fill out the form with all kinds of interesting
information about you and then send me a picture and then we can all
be one big dysfunctional badmotorfamily.

The Member Directory will be updated soon, soon, soon. I thank all of

redo the Web page (those official people aren't the only ones who can
use Photoshop), I will add them.

Hey Seth,

You shouldn't just say a band "sucked" and not give justification.
Since we're the same person, why I don't I just tell everyone what you
meant?

All you remember about Soundgarden from the show was that they sounded
like a whole lot of noise. You remember them playing Jesus Christ Pose
and it being completely unintelligible. You were just anxious to see
GN'R, as pathetic as that might seem in retrospect.
