jealous of us?...uh...DON'T...! I mean, we did the new CD thing, the "whether
or not AIC will tour" thing, the "how to get your non-AIC friends into
AIC"....now we're helping this teeny-bopper decide if he should dump his
girlfriend because she'd rather listen to Mariah Carey instead of AIC...

The one good thing is that the messages all come from the same sender. Maybe
different people posting, but the address is the same. It's easier for me to
weed out my personal email from the mailing list...then BAM! I get on this
mailing list and I get...all of you! ;-)

Advice to teeny bopper: DUMP HER! No girl/boy could possibly be worth
putting up with if you have to listen to Mariah Carey...

All mailing lists I've been on and have seen people on have the same
elements - the idiots, the unsubscribe messages, the questionnaires, the
repeated threads - but the good things make up for the bad things easily,
with great characters, trades of live boots and most importantly, you learn
all about a band you love - and more. Every mailing list I've been in has
introduced me to more than just the band in concern. I've learnt about many
other bands, either through the list itself or through talking to the people
on the list (thanks Carolyn!).

Coming from the one address does have its benefits - but I like the setup of
this list. I have an idea of who is likely to send out
interesting/humourous/informative or personal mail, so they get priority in
reading if my time is short...

>Ah well..it's Dead Bird Day..better get back to the relatives..."Hey Grammy?

:> Is this why the list has been so quiet over the past few days? Has
everyone in America nicked off to have Thanksgiving?

Note to everyone on the list: if you have a chance to see Henry Rollins
live, do so - I've never seen a more powerful performance in my life. Maybe
not as musically interesting as Soundgarden, but Rollins has a charisma that
is second to none...

Subject: soundgarden on the wall...

that reminded me of a similar experience i had. about a year ago, i went
to a fraternity (fraternities are typically classical rock listeners
around here) and on someone's wall was written "i know i'm headed for the
bottom, but i'm riding you all the way." i was so excited and i asked the
guy i was with if he had written it and he said no and neither had his roommate
so i made him ask around to see who had written it but he never found out.
although this was at mit, i don't think it was seth, because he doesn't
live in a fraternity and to my knowledge, does not frequent that one.
by the way, seth, i'm talking about tdc, so if you know anyone who
might fit the description in that house, let me know. it was so
random, it was written in the midst of other such graffiti gems, like
"women suck compared to bong hits." and it made me feel like at least
there was someone else at the school who listened to the same music i
did. it made me feel really good when i found out that the coordinator
of the list was at my school too.

Subject: The Devil?-Yet another controversial question about SG

There has been talk on this list of some picture in which Chris Cornell
looks like Jesus. Now I have a huge black and white picture of a long
haired and bare-chested Chris and I must admit, even now with his short
hair (picture in Rolling Stone), I've always thought that Chris went out
of his way to look sinister and excuse me if I raise some hackles here,
rather devilish. While this could just be wishful thinking on my part, I
started thinking about the very anti-Christian sentiment in some SG songs
and I really do think I've hit upon something.
First let me say that I apologize if this has already been discussed on
the newsgroup and second I'd be interested in knowing if any of the band
has ever brought this up.
OK. Here are my examples. All of Holy Water (Holy Water's rusting me...),
Wooden Jesus (the consumerism and hypocrisy of religion), 4th of July
("down in the waterways, where the baptized drowned... Down in the hole,
Jesus tries to crack a smile, beneath another shovel load") and of
course, Jesus Christ Pose ("But you're staring at me like I- like I need
to be saved! and of course later, like I'm driving your nails.) It seems
like they may only be against the hypocrisy, intolerance, and consumerism
that seems to follow Christianity. Just my $.02.
Let the flames begin :-)
Just playing devil's advocate,

I've also learned from my dad who listens to a lot of classical
music that some compact disc players cannot handle cds that are over
about 60 minutes or so long. classical cd companies have problems with
this because their type of performances are generally very long (I'm sure
I didn't have to say that, did I?). but I do know that chris was glad to
find out that the technology (the compact disc) would allow them to put
16 songs on superunknown, which comes to about 71 minutes if I'm not
mistaken, and that they wouldn't have to cut some songs out.

but I wouldn't be surprised if one day cd+ becomes the normal
format for music releases. the companies could basically do away with all
that nasty artwork on the front of the cd (we're already half-way there
with the move from albums to compact discs and cdc), and could just throw
all the linear notes up on the cd itself. but then again, this probably
won't happen, or at least not any time soon. I personally would prefer
just the music, especially if cd+ releases are such half-hearted efforts
as alive in the superunknown seems to be. maybe the band should have
consulted us. we could have told 'em what to put on there :)

I don't really think they sold out, we all have to remember they work for
A&M records, and from A&M's stand point they want to make money. They want
everyone to sellout. Since soundgarden owns the complete rights to all
they're songs, and continue to produce music however they please. And are
not in your face all the time doing lettermen appearence etc. etc.. I mean
they had the number one song of 94' despite the fact they also dissapeared
off the face of the earth during that time period. I bet A&M loved that,
they did not do alot of self serving promotions. So I would not worry
about, it. They are only selling out if they're music suffers because they
are trying write catchy songs. Although a catchy song in 17/8 would be an
accomplsihment. I think listning to those songs in those time sig's uses
more neurons in the brain thats why the general public doesn't like them
    that much.

I identify with this... I went through a Catholic school until college and I
definitely have some pessimistic views of the whole religion scene. I mean,
it just never did anything for me, or alot of my friends who were dragged
through it with me. You see the hypocrisy 1st hand, 'do as I say not as I
do' etc etc. I identify with Wooden Jesus in the way he sings "i'll cut you
in, on 20% of my future sin" as in the money scandals religion has pulled
off, especially the Catholic religion.

There are a lot of people who are sceptical about religion because its
pretty much fucked up the world, look at Ireland. Doesn't mean that
Soundgarden are worshipping the devil or anything like that...

In my view the lyrics are very fitting for the religion hypocrites and those
who push others to be the same.
