You can send a hundred thousand messages to somms@mit.edu while I'm
gone. Normally, mail sent to that address would automatically get
distributed to all of you. While I'm gone, it just won't go anywhere,
because I'm just going to unsubscribe everyone -- I will send a

Being from Minnesota and all, Soul Asylum would rock. Saw SA
this summer as they lauched their new tour. Caged Rat rocked and I would
love to see them jam with Soundgarden. (Being from Minnesota and all,
maybe the artist formily know as Prince would play along, that would be a

Hey All-
I recently noticed some of the reasons people are unsubscribing on my
mail list. Some of the more dim-witted people are saying this is a
damn talk show, instead of a valid discussion of music, BULLSHIT!
I draw my analogy to biking and beer for this, there're
way too many bike magazines out there that tap in the technical aspect
of biking, and there're a lot of groups out there who only want to talk
about the technical aspects of Soundgarden. I would like to learn guitar,
but for now, I look at this list as a list where people share their experiences
listening to Soundgarden. There's a mag. out there called BIKE magazine
that operates in the same format, articles of people's experiences with
biking, beer and how they're associated.
I may be rambling, but this is probably the only list that deals
with this certain end of the musical spectrum. If you don't like it, piss
off.
And a possible topic to get the pearl jam debate out of our systems,
favorite place to listen to Soundgarden
Just a thought
Peace

Unfortunately i had to tear that stereo system out and sell the car. I
loved my 87 escort. So now i guess my favorite place to listen to
soundgarden is....at a concert! Don't get me worng, i don't mean while
the band is playing. I watched Fathom (local band, friends of mine) open
for someone the other night and after their set the owner of the place
played BMF trhough the PA. Me and Fathom's bassist were in heaven. I
think we both destroyed our vocal chords singing/screaming along. Fathom's
drummer told us that he heard us while he was backstage. The PA speakers
were twelve feet nearer to backstage than we were. But maybe at a
concert with the band playing would be cool...but only if the band is
soundgarden. But i would settle for a soundgarden tribute band. (Anybody
know of any of these?).
But i guess if the owner of the place doesn't play sg, at a concert
would be a little difficult, so my third choice would have to
be...er.....er.......In my room back at home where i can turn it up as
loud as i want to as long as no one in the house is asleep and i'm
completely free to scream along w/out my fear of 'disturbing the peace'.

Right. I doesn't exist for well over a year now. But, back-log is still
available somewhere. I recommend it, good reading...

It just set me adrift on memory lane. That was the first INet musica
addres I found... The kind man behind it explained to me that the digest
is no more available, and pointed me to other resources, which in turn
led me to Garden Of Stone, the single greatest mailing list on the face
of the planet, ever. That was somewhere around the beggining of '94...

A big hello to all present GoSers...

Apparently you're new to the list because like two weeks ago I was
getting 80 messages a day w/ lists of acoustics songs and covers for the
band to do on an unplugged. I don't even want to open up that discussion
again but there are tons of great songs for them to do and although there
have been some not so great bands do uplugged sessions I feel there have
been many more that have.

Yeah. Anyone knows what would they simbolise? There are numerous 'dog',

Green River, MLB and PJ (Mookie Blaylock) are all very different bands
that only have Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament in common. The music and
everything else is distinctively different.

Also true, and also irrelevant. All members of PJ payed their dues in
other bands.

Besides, this list is (and I'm really sorry to bring this up) is inferior
to Pearl Jam lists I've been on. Garden Of Stone and 5against1. Those
were real cyber communities of people who share a common interest. On
this list, every other message is powered by hate, not love. I'm really

Hey-
Ok, my favorite place to listen to Soundgarden was in this pizza
bar, it was a bar that was practically financed by the Univ.
Rugby team. Anyway, I had a couple of ales in me and the guy started
playing Badmotorfinger. Aside from me, my best friend and the employees,
there was maybe 2 other people in the bar.
I didn't dig Badmotorfinger when it came out initially. Everything
that I thought Soundgarden stood for and was so good at, was in 'Louder
Than Love' so my BMF tape was gathering much dust. I really didn't start
listening to it again until after I picked up Superunknown. Anyway, after
another Boulevard Wheat Ale, Jesus Christ Pose came on, then it was
'Searching with my good eye', I was just bowled. I never realized how
creative and how tripped out the CD was. By the time 'Mind Riot' ended, I
was kicking myself for only playing that tape 3 or 4 times since 1992, and
it was 1994. Needless to say that I bought BMF used on CD the next day.
Anymore tho, the best place to listen to Soundgarden is on my headphones
when I'm biking on a trail that I don't have to worry about traffic. If the
trail is 30 miles long and flat or a 10 miles heavily vegetated trail, it
just seems to go perfect with it.
My Thoughts
Peace
Sean

But, be warned. There are no 37/13 timings on it. 4/4 all the way. There

From: jsimpson@mail03.mitre.org (Jamesetta Simpson)

Okay, so I have the CD+......

Okay, so I can play the music .....

Okay, so I CAN'T get to the hidden-track ....

Do I care - your damn right I care!!!!!!

My system (less the 6 months old) has a CD-ROM what can not load the Corel
Drivers for Enhanced CD. Oh, they gave me all the Technical Support lines to
call - but it is 7:00 PM (EST) and none of the support lines are open at this
time. Here I sit knowing that where are wonders awaiting me on this CD and I
can't get to them.

Excuse me but I'm going to go cry in my wine (I prefer wine to beer)........

But a quick review on the four cuts:

Superunknown - LP Version 5:06

Fell On Black Days - Video Version 5:26

She Likes Surprises - International LP version 3:17

Like Suicide - Acoustic Version 6:11 - Recorded by Chris - This is one great
song, Chris is so in control of his voice. CAN WE SAY UNPLUGGED - YES. Chris
could handle it with no problem. The CD+ is worth it just for this song......

God, if I could only see the rest of the hidden-tracks :-(

Well, I think this is good. A hope this will diminsh the membership a
bit. It's obvious that we've gotten a bit too large for out own good.

I've seen it happen a few times with other mailing lists. As soon as the
membership exceeds the critical mass of upto 200 the quality takes a nose
dive. Flames ahoy, bickering, fights... Then it's time for a cut. Usually

Yeah, Mike is faster. But, that's because he has that style of playing.
That bluesy/Hendrixesque style. On the other hand, Kim is more of a
Tommy Iommi-esque (Black Sabbath) player...

Neither is 'better' per se, just different.

You want to try the Alice In Chains list (subscribe at
angrychr@halcyon.com)... it's really nice and friendly at over 600
members. I couldn't believe it when the initial message from Seth warned
me that I might get flamed for posting an unsubscribe request to the list:
they happen on the AiC list, but everyone's too mellow to bother flaming
for it. Mind you, it doesn't happen there as often as it does here.
Anyone want to start up a successor to the "Sg v PJ" thread that asks
whether the AiC or Soundgarden list is better?

That's one thing the AiC list doesn't have: proper flame wars like I've
seen here.

Tony?

Yes, but the faster the notes go, the less you can hear them. Obviously
there's a balance to be struck, but too fast is just noise. Okay, so I'm
biased to preferring Soundgarden, but I think Mike McCready overdoes it.
Iommi forever!

Here I go again. Another list of my favourite songs from my favourite
artists. This is the last time, I promise. I don't mind if you want to
delete this, and I don't care if you don't care what my favourite songs are.

The Tea Party (just about my favourite group at this present moment)
1 The Bazaar
2 Inanna, & Walk with Me (tied)
3 Correspondence

Sepultura
1 Subtraction
2 Arise
3 Altered State

Steve Vai
1 Alien Water Kiss (a real mindblower)
2 Sisters
3 any other song from the "Passion & Warfare" album

SoundGarden (I've already done SG, but its worth repeating)
1 Fell on Black Days
2 Head Down
3 4th of July

Baby Animals (Excellent Australian band)
1 At the end of the day
2 Lights out at eleven
3 Backbone

The Angels (Excellent Australian band, sadly just announced their retirement)
1 Take An X
2 Jump Back Baby
3 No More Words

The Offspring
1 Smash
2 Bad Habit
3 Nitro

The Beatles (goodness me! Do I like the Beatles just because they've got
a comeback album coming out? OH, WHAT INSANITY IS THIS?)
1 Strawberry Fields (Maybe not, I've liked this song for years)
2 Free as a Bird
3 Hey Jude

Barnbrak (Irish folk music - I just heard them this weekend for the first
time, while my Grandma was listening to it. Surprisingly
           entertaining)
1 The Fly, & Postman Pat
2 the alphabet song (I don't think that is what it is called, but it'll do)
3 Belfast

OK, this is getting silly enough. This finishes here!!

I had an experience this morning that I want to share. I sat down at a
study cubicle in the university library today to study for an impending
exam. I had just started to scrawl my unintelligible and useless notes
when I looked up, and there on the wall infront of me, in red pen, were
the words to a verse from Rusty Cage. In 3 years at university, this is
the first sign I have seen of any fellow students being SG fans. I have
not met ANYONE at the Uni of South Australia who likes SG. It blew me
away. I grabed my pen and wrote on the wall: "You are my soulmate.. SG
FUCKING KICKS" Then I settled down and stared blankly at my text book for
two hours. Anyway, this experience made my day in a week of depressing
study, and I had to tell someone.

Sorry this has taken me so long to respond to but my mail system is having a
heart attack.

This is the information on the liner for the CD Plus

This disc is a CD Plus, a new type of compact disc which delivers both audio
and multimedia to you on one disc. This disc contains four audio tracks that
can be played on your audio CD player and a multimedia world to explore through
your CD-ROM drive.

Explore the visual. Some of it strange. Some of it really strange. Some of
it Superunknow. Then go further... Live performances. Rare and previously
unreleased music, photographs, video and animation.

And much, much more.

Now can you understand why I'm not having a very good evening. I can't get to
the CD-ROM stuff. I will spend my last day at work this week, searching for a
CD-ROM to play this on.

It was a peaceful time, the conversation revolving almost exclusively

Subject: fell on black days dem

I purchased an import single of "Fell on Black Days" over the summer, and
I must say that I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in
seeing what the song was like before Michael Beinhorn influenced the guys
in SG to change it. The demo version that is on the cd is a rather heavy
song, reminiscent of "OUtshined" and "Slaves and Bulldozers". The lyrics
are also totally different. e.g. "Now you're walking the devil's
dog/And carrying in his groceries". This is a kind of random letter, but
I felt that I had to share this wtih the loyal fans ot there. I love the
imagery that Chris puts into the lyrics in the demo, but my only
complaint is that his voice is a little lost in the mix. If anyone knows
all the words out there, please mail me, or mail me anyway if you just
feel like taliking about the most kick ass band to come around in the
last decade or two.

Subject: Web Web Web
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

Well, I've put all of the info from the liner notes of the new _Alive
in the Superunknown_ CD Plus on the Web page. I don't know how useful
this will be to anyone. (I will have some real input about the new
release as soon as I get a chance to check it out in its entirety)

I've also retrieved, formatted and made available for your perusal the
official transcript from Soundgarden's AOL chat session. Now this is
_extremely_ interesting: you may remember that I sent a message to the
list that included some comments from the SPINonline host about our
Web page versus the official site. From Steve's log, SPINmc said the
following about our page:

...and is way better than the official site, which is at
	http://Rocktropolis.com/Soundgarden/

Now, according to the official transcript, SPINmc said:

...The official site is still under construction and will
supposedly rock once it is finished. Tak a look at that over at
	http://Rocktropolis.com/Soundgarden/.

It seems that someone affiliated with Soundgarden (Silver Management,
perhaps?) exercised final editing authority and made SPIN alter the
truth before making the transcript public. Very interesting (to me, at
least), indeed.
