Krissy, this opinion is not that of Jackhammer, but that of an avid
Bungle fan. If you have a chance to check them out live, I would
definitely reccomend it. They are excellent musicians, and are quite an
experience live. Howevr, I don't know how they will sound playing the
stuff off their new record (Disco Volante). The new album, although
good, uses more tecnical synthesized computer type sounds (for lack of a
better term) Their self-titled record is killer, mixing the mandatory
demented circus music, with Trey Spruance's hardcore riffs and Patton's
crucial wail. They definitely take some getting used to, but they put on
an awesome show. They are pretty popular here in Arcata California
bacause they are from this area. Anyway, If you want more info, I can
tell you more, but this message is getting a little bit long-winded.

Hey all... I've got a couple quick questions.
1. Does anyone have a good place to order SG imports from? I'd like to get
"Fresh Deadly Rarities", but unfortunately the place I usually order from
can't get it. And I've been looking for another copy of SG "Nosebleed". I
have it already, but I'd like to find another copy for a friend.
2. What is Chris Cornell's middle name? I've heard it's Joseph, but I'd like
to know for sure.
                           Thanks!!!

Yes, I saw them play "Half" at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. It was

Dude, there are a lot of us who are very loyal to this list. I am
very sorry that you weren't here when the Superunknown album came out.
Maybe that would have made you happy. If you don't like it just back off
and unsuscribe because things like this happen! And I don't think that's
very pleasant.
For the list: Hey guys! I forgot about the whole Mailman lyrics issue
I was asking about! :@) I'm sorry and I hope some of you remember I was
asking for the meaning of Mailman's lyrics. Well, here is something to
think about: What if the lyrics are about getting AIDS but written from
another point of view? Read the lyrics again and please reply to this! I
wanna hear from all of you!
You know? If it makes all the maxican people feel better...Well, my
mom's mexican and I was raised there! Too bad SG didn't play in Mexico
when I was there. We only got the shitty bands there. (I think the only
one worth my money was Metallica and Slayer :@) ). Bye and think about
those lyrics! C-YA!

In many ways I agree, Abigail (the bitch's name) "should have 2 shotgun
shells pumped into her skull by Curt's animated corpse". That would also
be fairly amusing and I for one would love to be there if it was ever to
happen.

Another Teen Spirit version I like is the Top of the Pops performance
that can be seen on Live, Tonight, Sold Out. Kurt does an excellent
gothic version of it. That has to be by far the funniest version of it.

I was there when SG and FNM played with G'N'R at Wenbley Stadium and I
can honestly say that G'N'R were not worth going to see. After all the
hype about the gig I was so dissapointed. SG, however, more than made up
for it. Before then I had only heard the Badmotorfinger albumn and so I
wasn't totally sure if I would like them, but they were great.

This is my first time writing this list so bear with me if I messed this up.
The term SatanOscillateMyMetallicSonatas is the name of a bonus disc that
was included in the A&M re-release of Badmotorfinger. Most of the songs are
covers. They are Into the Void (originally by Black Sabbath, but with
different words), Stray Cat Blues (originally by the Stray Cats), Girl U Want
( yes That was originally done by Devo). The other two songs were written by
SG: She's a Politition, and a live version of Slaves and Bulldozers. At
least if my memory serves me correct, that is what is on the disc. As for
Half, yes that is Ben singing.

Hello again,

This post has nothing to do with SG, but is an answer to a
question someone asked so bear with me.

Krissy, Don't buy the Mr. Bungle CD thinking you'll like it
just because Mike Patton sings vocals on it. IMHO there aren't too many
similarities between FNM and Bungle except they are both excellent bands
that Mike Patton sings in. "Disco Volante" is driven by sound effects.
Bungle show you that anything can be an instrument. There's less of a
metal sound than on the first album. Besides that it's kind of hard to
describe the music performed by Bungle. If anyone else can think of a
way to describe the music please let me know. There is a lot of variety on
the new CD. I haven't seen them live yet, but will be Nov. 24 at Avalon
here in Boston. I've heard their live shows are incredible. I saw FNM
there about a year ago and they were incredible. Just wondering Krissy,
do you subscribe to CV digest. It's a mailing list for FNM and Bungle.

Music lovers everywhere!!! PERSONAL opinion will follow....

What I have to say is simple: I feel Pearl Jam has more feeling in their
songs than do Soundgarden.

This does NOT mean that I dislike SG, but in my opinion they rank second...

Why??? Well, PJ seems to be able to translate their emotions in more ways
than SG can, allthough SG did it quite well with the Superunknown album.

Anyways, that's all I had to say...

I must say I disagree entirely! In my opinion, PJ is easy to listen to
because they are direct. SG, on the other hand, are so indirect that it
blow my mind EVERY TIME I hear any of their music. I do love PJ, but I
can usually make sense of their music the first time I hear it (with the
complete exception of "Release"-THis song blows my mind also!), but with
SG I can think of a million different ways to adapt their music to my own
life. Their music is so complex that you have to actually TRY to listen
to it and that makes it totally worth it!!

From: AMODEO SEBASTIEN <ke691826@er.uqam.ca>
Subject: Re: Pearl Jam VS Soundgarden

Hi Jenn

Soudgarden DOES have a more complex music, and, as a drummer, I know how
hard it can be to keep! I think what I meant is, when you listen to the
music for the first time, PJ's music fills you up with awe, and a cascade
of feelings fill you up, be it joy or sadness, or pain, etc... SG's
music, on the other hand, needs to be listened to a few times before you
can even begin to appreciate the subtleties in the music.

I guess both bands reach me, but in a different way. SG touches the
technical musician more than PJ does, but I know that when I listen to
Jesus Christ Pose I don't really care about the technical abilities
deployed by them, I just FEEL the song!

Have they ever done a show together, I mean recently, and do they plan
to? I would pay A LOT of money to see that!

Buh Bye!

Regarding the question on wheather or not Soundgarden is
better than Pearl Jam, I hate to decide between two groups I seriously
dig. I think Pearl Jam has a great band, Eddie Vedder is one
of the most soulful singers in rock today, but judging on shear
skills, I would have to go to Soundgarden.
Take the song "Mailman" Not only are the lyrics "I know I'm heading
for the bottom/ but I'm riding you all the way" direct, the music
and Chris Cornell's voice totally amplifies every word. The guitar
sounds like something dragging you down into a dark corrider by
your neck.
And the middle eastern riffing of Black Hole Sun just has
that something extra that the guitarists of Pearl Jam can't seem
to master. On the other hand, totally different music styles. No
way you can say that Vitalogy is a rip off of Superunknown or could
you say that Badmotorfinger is their version of Ten, its far more
challenging to the listener.

Subject: Rolling Stone article
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

Just got the new issue of Rolling Stone (#722, with Lenny Kravitz on
the cover) and it has a short article about CD-Plus releases,
including the forthcoming _Alive in the Superunknown_ from
Soundgarden. After discussing Moby's _Disk_, the author goes on to
talk about SG's disc:

The configuration of Soundgarden's _Alive in the Superunknown_
is only slightly more conventional. It opens on a "video forest"
filled with different objects: moons, trees and, at times, the
group members. Unlike the Moby disc, the objects remain
cooperatively stationary. Click one and it will take you to
different sections -- a photo album, rock videos ("Black Hole
Sun" among them) and "Superunknown" itself. The main event is an
environment-cum-video game that has the feel of Myst (a popular
faux-surrealist CD-ROM game) for the doom laden.

There is also a picture of the cover next to the article.

The disc is scheduled to be released in 8 days.

Dear All,
Well I know I've never said anything before on this list, but I
couldn't resist this topic. Pearl Jam and Sound Garden are both fantastic
bands, but there is one problem..... they're different kinds of music. How
can you compare? I mean the music is TOO different. I like both bands and am
unable to chose between two. If I was forced i think I would have to chose
PJ(not a smart thing to say on this channel). I would chose PJ because they
have music I know, the more known by ME.
Please write back with any comments(please be NICE),

Truly awesome. I saw a shirt today, it had the Superman style thing on the
front with a big question-mark. On the back, it said "Soundgarden,
Superunknown." I knew -- for a FACT -- that Soundgarden thinks the Superman
shirts are a joke, so I asked the kid where he got it. "Bootleggers. 15 bucks
cheaper" Heh heh heh.

SOMMS is the title of the album insert that came with Badmotorfinger. Both of
them are incredible. I'm sure that someone on this list'd be willing to send
you a tape of any album you want, too!

Subject: Pearl Jam and Soundgarden

Well, I know there are several diehard Soundgarden fans on this list
(founding members of the list, I might add) who dislike Pearl Jam with a
passion. I'm surprised they haven't already responded to Amodeo Sebastien's
original post. (Where are you, Clown?? Eating those yummy noodles and
thinking up a good reply, I suppose!).

I too am one of the earlier Somms list members, but don't share my friends'
views on Pearl Jam. I happen to love both PJ and SG. And as Jennifer &
Sean have pointed out, these two bands each have their own qualities and
should be liked (or disliked) for those qualities alone, and not by being
compared with another band.

What am I trying to say here? Well, you've got me. Yesterday was the 13th
of November, I had a bad day at work, and it must be rubbing off on me again
today, for I'm rambling again..........[sigh].

I like PJ because they sing very moving songs. You'd have to go a long way
to find a song that is sadder (to me) than Indifference, for example. And I
like SG because they have such indepth lyrics. I like both bands because
they produce such great music. I too would pay a lot of money to be able to
see both these bands together at one concert.

That's it from me, Carolyn the Metamorphising Fiend

Stray Cat Blues was originally by the Rolling Stones, not the Stray Cats.

at this time i would like to humbly offer my production services to
the boys for their next album. i feel that my radio shack directional
mic and my panasonic four track can do true justice for the
inspirational sounds of sg. :)

(i know it did wonders for my latest acoustical masterpiece,
`republican girl'...coming soon to a `hot 20' billboard singles rack near
you...)

hey folks...what about the new aic???? i picked it up last week and i
really didn't think much of it upon first listen. now however, much of
it is starting to grow on me. (i like heaven beside you, over now, the
second song, whatever it's called....) they definitely explored some
new territory on this album, which is refreshing, but i think i would
have to agree that it's a bit hard to swallow at first.

personally, i would like to see sg do some similar things on their
next album...of course, they've done so many different things already
that this would be a good trick (put `half', `i awake', and `fourth
of july' on the same tape and try to convince people that it's the
same band...)

This is in refrence to the person at gdjhl@ukc.ac.uk. What *did* that person
think she was going to get on this list. The list is about Soundgarden. That
includes anything related to them, not just their music. If you don't want to
read it, just get off the list.

To the asshole who wrote the original article: Put your money where your
mouth is. If you think everything on this list is such crap, why haven't you
posted anything about "relevant issues." It's a lot easier to spew crap like
yours than actually do something constructive. If you don't want to read the
list, get off of it. The rest of us don't want to waste our time reading what
you've written.
