I plan to finally get off my lazy ass this weekend and set up the Mailing List
Member Directory. It would be great if each of you could email me a photo (any
image format will do) of yourself. If you don't have access to a scanner, you
can send me a real photo and I'll scan it. If you have a homepage with your
photo on it, send me the URL and I'll steal the picture from there.

The idea is that there will be a non-publicized Web page that has links to
pages for each one of you that wants a page. Your page will include your photo,
a link to your homepage, and whatever biographical information you want to
share. This way, you have an idea of who's reading your email when you send it
to the list. You'd have to try pretty hard to convince me that you aren't the
least bit curious about what certain people on the list look like.

You can visit the Member Directory (http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/list) at
your leisure. My real mail address (for sending me pictures and cash donations)
is there, as well as a form for submitting biographical info to me.

The other thing for which I would like contributions (and this is not a
list-specific thing; it's open to everyone) is the Soundgarden Art Gallery. So
far, Dan Ladle and URB@NO have sent me some really cool Soundgarden-related
artwork they've done. If you have something you want to share with the rest of
the world, by all means send it. For all practical purposes, I have unlimited
disk space, so send as much as you want.

Get to it.

Well all, with all the posts about people wanting to get hold of SOMMS
and many other hard to find/ rarities by Soundgarden, I have compiled
much of my collection and created a compilation tape containing 23 tracks
of b-sides. My only problem is that I want to produce a nice J-card and
liner notes but don't have the facilities to do it (except for my trusty
typewriter). The computer I use is at work so I can't do it on that either.
So, if anyone is willing to help me make this, they'll get a free copy of
the tape(at the least).

If anyone is interested in this tape, I'll post the track list and more
info at a later date.

I've only heard the straight version of "Nothing Else Matters" - I was
thinking of the "Grunge Lite" CD and that horrifying version of "Smells
Like Teen Spirit". I thought some of the guitar parts on the song
"Superunknown" could be done by a 10,000 Maniacs-like horn section. I
can almost hear it now. BTW, is orchestral backing ever _not_ OTT?

Errr... what exactly do you want us to talk about? I certainly haven't
noticed *you* contributing anything interesting. Think of this as a

Thank you. See my previous statement. Everyone out there: y'all know

If anyone with a preference for pleasant discourse dislikes this
"person"'s tendency to slag off people he/she's barely even met, I trust
you'll join me in the above-mentioned action of retribution.

Never heard it, never heard *of* it, but it sounds horrific. I don't
want to know more. Except... did you ever hear the *dance* version of
"Smells Like Teen Spirit"? Or even the dance version of The Cranberries'
"Zombie"? Urgh.

Er... no, I suppose. No, hang on: Alice In Chains use some nice string
accompaniment on Jar Of Flies. And REM can manage it quite tastefully.
Guns 'N' Roses can't.

Having only been on the list for one day hardly seems like enough time to
make a fair judgement of its content. Besides, we all enjoy it, so what
purpose did it serve for you to post such a rant?

WHY BOTHER SENDING A BUNCH OF

Allow me to ask you the same question...oh, but you don't even give us your
name...

Funny, I received only one worthless piece of mail from a moron today.

"Keep it to yourself"...some good advice.

Since when are you the authority on what is interesting and relevant? Do
you react in this way to everything you encounter in your life that doesn't
meet your expectations - only after giving it one chance? Does it make you
feel better to ridicule some 300 or more members of this list after only
reading messages posted by a handful of them?

Just what is your idea of a relevant issue? I think this list is a great
way of spreading information about Soundgarden. Sure, I don't personally
benefit from every single post, but I've learned a lot and have organized
a few tape trades to get rare material I've not heard before.

Don't stick around too long to revel in what you consider to be such
"idiocy" because I'd rather not have to hear from someone with such a
closed mind and such an eagerness to prejudge and ridicule.

I'm sorry. Did you just use "dance" in the same sentence as "Smells Like
Teen Spirit"? This must be some usage of the word "dance" which I'm not
familiar with. If some record exec somewhere decided that they needed to
remix SLiTS to capitalize on the teeny-bopper market, I'd just as soon
not know. On the other hand, if it was done as some sort of wickedly
ironic statement about the state of the alternative music scene, then I'm
all for it. Where can I get my copy?

Axl tries too hard to be Elton sometimes.

I guess string sections will always shout DISCO to me. Hmm. An SG cover
of "I Feel Love"? Blasphemous.

I'm afraid so. It really was done, and you really, *really* don't want to
know.

I wish. No, it was done in all seriousness. In fact, I've heard
statements from people who like that sort of techno (urgh!) "music" to
the effect that Kurt Cobain shouldn't have written such a catchy riff if
he didn't want a dance remix of it to emerge. Yeah, like it was his
fault. I just hate to imagine what would happen if any dance "musician"
got their hands on Mind Riot. Or Uncovered. Or Big Dumb Sex. It doesn't
bear thinking about.

hello. i am an 18 year old college student and a huge fan of soundgarden.
it is really amazing how much mail i have received since joining the
mailing list.the other day,i had 80 messenges in my mailbox.80! i am very
happy to see such a large number of people in the world that share my
love for this band.the news that soundgarden will be releasing "alive in
the unknown" on november 21th took me by surprise.i know it is a cd-rom
thing.what songs will be on it? any new stuff? exactly what sorts of
pictures will be on it? when is the next "real" album from soundgarden
coming out? how much will "alive" cost? i must have the answers to these
questions. also,i would be very interested in acquiring various soundgarden
b-sides;anything along those lines. seeing as how superuknown was incredible,
i am anxiously awaiting any new music from them.i just wish they would
come to dallas again.oh,yeah,i have some ideas about possible opening
acts for our boys from seattle. filter, everclear, shelter, and the toadies, are
some bands i thought of on the top of my head.has anyone here heard of
shelter? i saw their video on 120 minutes,"here we go again", and upon
hearing it i had to get their record entitled "mantra".i know this is a
soundgarden forum but let me plug shelter a little. they are like a mix
of red hot chili peppers, green day,and offspring except that shelter has
a message in their songs.do me a favor and check them out.if you like
what you hear please e-mail me and tell me what you think.oh well i gotta go.

although this may be somewhat dated, I'd like to see codeine open for
