I have Digging the Garden, and would be willing to copy it for anyone. I
would like to trade for any of the rarities listed, or for any videos
(except for Louder Than Live, which I have) Some interesting things -
Digging the Garden consists of two different recordings, the first of
which is considerably better than the second. However, the first seven or
eight songs (the first recording) are in a totally different order on the
disc than they are listed on the back of the case. Also, in the middle of
Slaves and Bulldozers, Chris breaks into the first verse of Alive, and
then some thing I've never heard- "Jesus is my friend, and I like it love
it." I'm not sure if any of this has been mentioned here before, but oh well.

If this is true, those of us paying for #$@@!?%^%!? AOL will finally
get something from it!! Although I can't complain, Ozzy was on AOL the
other night and was a fine gentleman indeed!! Alright, so list, what
should those of us who have AOL TRY and ask the boys? And when I say
try, I mean it. Just because you ask a question, doesn't mean it gets
through to them. I finally got an answer from Ozzy but only after he
opened another chat room. Unfortunately, I don't think those of you
without AOL can get in on it, although most of you probably know some
idiot, like myself, who subscribes to it so go visit that person that
night!!

i'm a saperl of many flavors, including the occasionally useful
saperl@aol.com, so i'll be there. we definitely need to milk these
soundgarden characters for as much information as possible.

"chris, who do you think looks more like jesus, you or kim?"

"chris, what the HELL is symbolized by that twisted fork around your
neck?"

"when's the next REAL album coming out?"

"why the HELL did the cost of joining the fan club jump from $2 to $8
as soon as you guys got yourselves an official web page?"

"hey matt, do you think jeff ament looks good for a dead person?"

"when do you plan to stage a private concert for the mailing list
members?"

"hey, do you guys want to join the chicken fajita mailing list?"

"does it bother you guys that there are obsessive maniacs out there
who adopt names like 'blind dog' and 'little joe'?"

and, of course, we have to let them know we care about them and that
we don't want to see them get flamed:

"ben, unsubscribe requests go to saperl@mit.edu."

"kim, please don't send chain letters to the mailing list."

actually, i probably won't be saying anything, but i will be logging
the whole mess if i can, so you can be sure the transcript will appear
on our web page as soon as i can possibly ftp the text file from my
computer to stargate's web server.

Uh, *I'd* love to hear Monster MAGNET play with Soundgarden... I think their
great, although I admit they are *nowhere* near as good as Kyuss but Kyuss
split up so that counts them out. :(

First off, I'd like to compliment you on your name (yes, I like Nirvana).
Now, in answer to your question: somms is a rare version of
Badmotorfinger which contains some extra b-sides and live recordings. I
just learned of its existance a few weeks ago, and I figure that since
every BMF song is great, I should like the b-sides of this album.

I'm not sure, but I think I heard it contains data for both. I guess
this is possible b/c a cd can hold many hundared MB's. Again, I have no

Subject: Fell on Black Days

Well, Rolling Stone once again has put out the annual
reader's poll. In a relatively weak year of music, I think
Soundgarden definately deserves the award for best band.
True, Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands, they definately do
have a soul. But, when it comes to both soul and music ability,
Soundgarden definately takes the prize. Take 'Fell on Black Days'
I played that song to death earlier this year when a close member
of my family died. Today has been a day from hell, one of my
professors basically put me on his eternal shit list for going
into work instead of participating in a extra cirrucular activity,
I have a huge ass test that looks like I may bomb and one of my
roommates may be on the verge of breaking up with a longtime
girlfriend. Listening to 'Fell on Black Days' again didn't take
away any of the shit that has been happening, but there's something
in a song, if done right, that can act as a release and take away
some of the pain you may be feeling, Soundgarden does that for me
today and I'm sure in many days to come

My Thoughts

That version of "Slaves and Bulldozers" may be the very same one that is on
the Motorvision video. I was really surprised to with Chris' "improv" during
the song. Methinks we should have CC redo all the vocals on the PJ albums

By the way, what songs would you just love to see SG cover?

I also saw Sponge open up for Love Spit Love who opened up for Live. Sponge
was actually the biggest surprise of the concert. They rocked it right? The
same situation applies here as for the person who saw them in Detroit...they
only played six songs or so (and then Love Spit Love sucked and I began to
realize that Live got success-hungry and forgot about Mental Jewelry...), but
Sponge kept me from getting a hot pretzel during their set!!!! Now that
they're a little more famous, (they get played all the time here in SW Ohio)
they would do a SG crowd right...keep the crowd alive waiting for the real show
to start.

I also think The Presidents of the United States of America would be sweet to
open up for the crew. "Lump" is not the definitive POTUSOA song...plus, as
previously mentioned, Kim could play on their last song of the album, "Naked
and Famous."

Another morsel of food for thought: has anyone heard of the Christian group the
Prayer Chain? They've developed a dark, moody sound that might compliment SG's
style as well. Input?? Input??

I am of the opinion that CC is strongly against the commercialized
religion that religious society perpetually forces on those
"non-believers". Although he was raised Catholic, his lyrics say
otherwise. I'm not sure how fond C would be of the idea of a Christian
rock band in any context w/ the band. Just my opinion.

i think that a great opening band would be:
AGE OF ELECTRIC
they are a great, almost unknown canafian band are are a very good band.
there lyrics are not too deep (i do not think so) and they are very talented.
they have 2 songs on the radio, enya and ugly but neither are their best
songs. i love the song motor.
also, is it true that sg only do croosword puzzles in the studio when not
recording?

I second that. I managed to see Soundgarden then Monster Magnet
immediately after them at the Reading Festival this year - at first I
thought they were going to be on at the same time (different stages, you
see), which would have sucked since they were the two main bands I wanted
to see out of the whole weekend. But I saw them both, and Soundgarden
blew me away, and Monster Magnet weren't half bad.

Interestingly enough, Mudhoney were playing earlier in the day, but I
didn't bother going to see them because they suck. (Okay, that was flame
bait... they don't suck, they just don't really do anything for me. Sorry.)

Right, irrelevant post really, but I couldn't stand by and watch Monster
Magnet being dissed.

How can I let this one pass? The song from Black Sabbath is called War Pigs,
and my favourite band, Faith No More, do a ripper cover of it. Hearing Chris
Cornell do it would be phenomenol! Matt Cameron could go berko on drums!

Subject: Meeting SG band members- Thayill story

Hi! I had spent years wondering what I would do if I met Jerry Garcia but
I'd never really thought about meeting anybody else. Although I have
lived in Seattle for 3 awesome years and have heard many stories about
meeting members of Nirvana, SG etc., I never thought about it. So right
before I leave to study in Israel, I'm in Fred Meyer (like Kmart) in
Greenwood in Seattle looking at watches in the electronics department. I
notice that the salesman is being very attentive to a customer right next
to me so I look over and see Kim Thayill standing a foot away from me.
I start listening to their conversation while pretending to stare
intently at the pathetic selection of watches- I didn't want to seem like
a groupie. The salesman is telling Kim that he likes their music but that
they've lost the hard edge of their earlier stuff. I just can't allow
this to pass uncorrected and say "Don't listen to him. Your albums are
getting progressively better." or something like that and Kim says to
both of us that (rough quote) "You can't be drunk and 22 forever. Our
lead singer is married and things have changed..." So Kim goes on to buy
a TV (I didn't stick around because I thought it would be uncool) and as
I'm driving out of the parking lot I see his really old beat up van in
front of me with 12 zillion rock stickers on it. I didn't chat for long,
and probably sounded like an idiot, but it made my day. Should've asked
him if he wanted to come over and smoke a bowl :-)

That's fair enough! Would SG like the connotations that go with Jizzlobber?
And how would they finish off the song, Chris Cornell walking over to a pipe
organ, huge choir in the background, pipe organ gradually fading in whilst
the rest of the band dies out...

Makes for a nice mental picture!

Maybe Soundgarden could do Get Out or Gentle Art of Making Enemies?

Well, there have been many, many suggestions for an opening act for
Soundgarden. Some great ones!! It will be interesting to see if any of our
bands are actually used.

While you all know my personal favourite would be the Violent Femmes, I also
suggested The Presidents of the United States of America. And it seems that
this band just MIGHT be the one most suggested by we Soundgarden fans.

For example, Chris Dawg wrote:

I just have to disagree with you, James. I think BECAUSE of the fact that
POTUSA is "poppy", less intense, etc., they'd make a good lead-up to
Soundgarden. They're new, they're light, they're fresh, and they're nothing
like our boys. This will mean that the crowd there won't be already
"intensified out" by the time Soundgarden takes the stage - rather they'll
be all ready and waiting for some good, heavy, rock.

Oooo! Just thinking about being at a live Soundgarden gig gives me goosebumps.

Yes, the point I was trying to make just now, Haakan. We need something

complement them. Provide a good contrast. POTUSA a good example.

know: >>Anybody else ever had this kind of reaction to a song or album?<<

Well I have to admit, I have had some releases of rage in my car.....and the
sad thing is I drive a little shitbox Toyota that you literally COULD rip the
steering wheel off of! JCP is a fave tune of mine, and definately is good for
that!!! I also like Rusty Cage as well (the whole damn cd is good for it
really....) also any misc. White Zombie or Rage Against the Machine tune.
Spin the Black Circle and Lukin by Pearl Jam are also stereo crankers.

Instead of labeling cds with "Adult Advisory" stickers, they should put
little stickers on them like the ones you get on a bottle of pills from a
pharmacy: "CAUTION: Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while under the
influence of this cd!"
