Well i have a couple of times (opening for others) and although they put
a good live performance on I didn't like their music that much. I think
Carolyn is just expressing her opinion on Fur, others may like Fur, you
know that thing about people having different tastes.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if a band is good at doing their thing, even
if you don't like their "thing" :)

Jaimie: the only thing Iknow about Roy Harper was that Zeppelin made a
song called "Hats off to Roy Harper" out of respect for him. For
Zeppelin to pay a tribute to him, he must be a mighty individual indeed.
I'm just starting my roadie career myself. In fact, I did equipment set
up for Blind Melon the Tuesday before their singer guy died. And I
helped at a Maceo Parker show, who, if you don't know, used to play in
James Brown's horn section. Talk about the funky stuff, it was funky as
6 month old milk! Hmmm....never mind that last sentence, it's only 2:30
AM.

As for any possible fans of TOOL out there, they are getting a new bass
player, but it wont be the guy from Jane's Addiction. I guess they are
going to start recording with some mystery bass player yet to be named.
They are shooting for a CD release for this summer!!!!

And what's with this Jeff Ament is dead stuff? Has it been confirmed?
Would my dreams be answered and Pearl Jam would break up?

The person that said Silverchair was better that AIC because they sound
"catchy" and they "wail" must have some sort of deep psychological
problems, and in that case I would suggest therapy immediately, I'm sure
it's not too late.

I'm going to go see PRIMUS in a month. Those bastards suck! I cannot
wait....

The CC=Jesus thing: It really doesn't matter. We know for sure what
Chris looks like, and can only take an educated guess as to what Jesus
looked like. I'm sure if they looked alike that would be great. It
doesn't change the fact that Jesus is NOT a band member of SOUNDGARDEN
and Chris is. That's all there is to it.

Well, if you're looking for _contrast_, how about Throwing Muses. Maybe
a little too much contrast? C.O.C. was an excellent choice.

I did'nt actually say Silverchair were better than AIC, far from it,
what I said was that out of two singles that I bought on monday
afternoon - AIC Grind and Silverchair Tomorrow, the latter was better
as it had more of a tune than the AIC single which does have alot of
"wailing" on it. Also if Grind had been on Dirt it would definately
have been considered the worst track. This however will not deter me
from buying the album when it comes out in a couple of weeks, I just
hope that the single is'nt a fair representation of the quality of the
material on it, saying something in its favour though, the lyrics are
good - "don't plan my funeral, till the body dies.." very apt.

So, any other Aussie out there with a Fur opinion. So "fur" it looks like two
not so good reviews.

I mention two local bands (Kage and Jimmy Chickin...) that are worth the look.
Anyone else out there know any local bands trying to make it big. Let's us
know.... Especially if it is your band.....

Yes, this is not a Soundgarden item, but hey, until the new CD comes out or
they start touring you got to talk about something. I don't know about the
rest of you - but having turkey five days after Thanksgiving is very bad - so
is rehashing fab song on SG for five days.

Anyone ever heard of Sorry About Your Daughter? For anyone familiar with the
University of Maryland, they got started playing at the Paragon and the
'Vous. The first time I ever saw them, they did an excellent cover of Alive.
They put out an album on Diesel Boy Records in 1994, and it's pretty cool.

These guys rock! I jock them hard.

Gordon Schumway:
>Tell me about roy harper. I wish to know the origin of the song "hats off to
roy harper" by led zep.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Harper at a local radio station (in my glory
days I was friends with several DJ and owners of Mom/Pop type record emporium -
because of this I was able to meet allot of up and coming bands) - but back to
Roy Harper. Harper had a new record out and was doing the publicity thing. He
was schedule to do a radio interview at a station in which I knew the DJ. This
DJ knew that I did portraits of rock stars and called me and ask if I would
like to bring Roy's picture in. I said - naaaa, why would I want to do that -
sure and chickens lay square eggs.

I went to the station, figuring I would hand over my drawing to a secretary -
have her disappear into the back and return with it signed (just the name
scribble on the bottom). No, way I was taken back to the studio, introduce to
Roy Harper, offered a drink and given a seat beside him. He took my portfolio
and look at each and every picture - including the ones I had done of
Page/Plant. He did me the great honor of telling me, my renderings of these
two was right on the money.

When he got to his - he study it and then wrote several paragraphs on his
views. Not just a scribble name but a full description. I than sat for a 1/2
hour or so talking about his new record and about Page/Plant.

He was a very poetic speaker - his normal speech like his songs was lyrical.
Wonderful accent. He was the type of person you like to discuss life with.
Interesting and open. For the life of me I can't remember all he said about
the Zep group. You have to remember I was very young and not very
sophisticated in dealing with anyone of importance. Not like today, where in
the present of some as - Chris/Kim/Ben/Matt I would handle myself like - - -
the village idiot. It's hard to be cool in the present of greatness.

Sorry to ramble - I still have the picture of Roy and I did at one time have
Page's signature on his picture - gave it away.......

>I'm just starting my roadie career myself.

Roadie are the heart of any concert. They work very hard, get very little
attention or respect. But, they can learn allot from the touring. My hat is
off to you - sounds like our Frizzle Fry is on the right road, a hard one but I
think for him the right one. Here's hoping you are the top billing star
someday....

Mr. Schumway - I can only say that Harper and Page/Plant were close friends and
had great respect for each other. When you care for someone it is easy to
write for them......

Subject: AIC...I DON'T THINK SO

After reading a number of responses to who would be a suitable band
to open up for SG, I
deduced that a number of you feel that Alice In Chains would be a
good choice. I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, I think they're
a good band, and "Rain When I DIE" and "Would" are truly killer
tunes. I just don't think that they're in the same league as SG.
Don't hate me, AIC fans, that's just my opinion. Personally, I think
that a band such as White Zombie would do the trick. WZ are still
not in the same leauge as SG, but the two bands styles would
complement each other very well. WZ would be an interesting
appetizer for the much more satisfying SG main course. Locally, a
show is coming up with The Ramones opening up for WZ. I think that
the Ramones would definately be a killer opening act for Soundgarden.
Personally, I have seen SG live twice. The first time, back in '93,
they opened up for Pearl Jam, who in turn, opened up for Neil Young.
That was a great show, although it was BBHS, (Before Black Hole Sun),
and the audience response for SG was tame, to say the least. The
"Fans" were not particularly interested in the complex lyrics and
musical style of SG. Fuck them, I was perfectly content to rock out
to the band by myself. The next time I saw them, in the summer of
'94, they were the headliners, and the opening acts consisted of
Marilyn Manson, PWEI, and...NIN. That was a cool show, although SG
did suffer from sound problems, and did not delve into their back
catalouge enough. Basically, they played "Superunknown", but still
omitted my favourite song, which is "The Day I Tried to Live".
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I truly look forward to the
next opportunity that I can see SG live, and I hope the opening act
will complement a band as amazing as Soundgarden.

in the movie "Pink Floyd, The Wall", where Pink goes cocoo
and smashes up his hotel room was inspired by a real life incident in
which Roy Harper smashed up his trailer while waiting to lay down on
his vocals for the song.

I had completely over looked White Zombie - yes I could handle this line up,
White Zombie, Soundgarden, (need a female group in here) can't think of one I
really like - maybe L7 or I'll go out on the limb Melissa Etheridge (she can
belt out a song).

I have heard White Zombie is doing a show in my area around Christmas

break my self imposed band on concert going and do this one. Can I have input

No one knows who the hell Eleven is though, and that's not so cool...

Soundgarden thought of playing with Marilyn Manson... heheh... I would
like to see Soundgarden play with PWEI but I don't think I'd ever see
that happen because I don't think Kim really likes industrial music,
because I believe I read something to the effect of he doesn't believe

Soundgarden's played with a bunch of bands before, it will be
interesting to see them go on tour next year.. who will they bring? They
usually take out bands that aren't too popular, or so they did last
year.. You Am I, Reverend Horton Heat, Tad, Eleven.. I think Soundgarden
should go on tour with RESTRAINT!!!!!!!! :-) sorry, it's just a dream of

Soundgarden playing with the Presidents would be definitely cool....

have a more talented band like say Kyuss or Mudhoney? C.O.C is alright
though.

I do recall a time when Soundgarden played around hear and a band named
Kill Whitey opened for them. Kill Whitey is now called STICK for any
one who is interested.

By the way GROTE>>>>> I have two Kill Whitey CD's if you are
interested in a copy. One of the CD's has the original version of FUEL
which is really good. They had a female lead singer. I remember
reading an interview with Chris Cornell saying the best female rock
singer he had heard was Kim Czarnopys from Kill Whitey.

Seth Perlman, Soundgarden Artwork Web Page Secretary, at your service.

There are 387 of you on the list; so far, TWO of you have sent me
Soundgarden-related artwork. Think of the benefits of contributing to
the Web page: fame, fortune (well, not really), glory, etc.

And while you people are at it, send me your pictures for the Member

Monster Magnet is a great band and also if you want Kyuss to open, its
going to be hard, since they broke up Oct. 2. Fucking pissed me off,
greatest band in the whole world, as far as I'm concerned. I don't see how

Well, I hate to get involved in discussions that come from mailing lists
I'm not on, but I've got to say that a Soundgarden/AIC double bill would
be either absolute heaven, or a disastrous mistake. I can't make up my
mind. Should AIC open for Soundgarden? Probably, because Soundgarden's
songs make better headlining material. But AIC are too good a band to be
just supporting Soundgarden.

As to the idea of White Zombie supporting Soundgarden - it doesn't work.
At the Reading Festival this year, White Zombie were on before
Soundgarden... okay, so they were on at 14:30 on a sunny day (not exactly
the right mood for White Zombie music) and several hours before
Soundgarden (but I didn't bother with any of the bands in between), but I
think White Zombie are too heavy to open for Soundgarden. They'd get the
crowd into a moshing frenzy, then Soundgarden would come on and seem like
a bit of a disappointment. Not that there music isn't good, it just
isn't as carefree and uplifting.

(If anyone's interested in a mini-review of Soundgarden's set at Reading,
tell me and I'll post something.)

I reckon Soundgarden should tour on their own, actually. They're such a
unique experience that it would be difficult to get an appropriate band
to support them. As for AiC being relegated to their support act... it
would be unfair. Almost humiliating. It would certainly leave a bad
taste in my mouth.

Neale (who will probably never see AiC live, and just wants to stop
anyone else seeing them)

That would certainly do it. I don't know how popular the Posies are with
the SG crowd (um, not very?), but their styles probably don't mix very
well (an understatement?). But Bumbershoot is a beautiful thing - always
some surprises. Ever heard of Bob's Your Uncle? I saw them at
Bumbershoot a couple of years ago. Now that I think about it, they would
make a good opening band for SG. They have a female lead vocalist with
an _incredible_ voice. She'd sound good in a duet with Chris. And
muscially I think they'd compliment SG. Very high energy live. OK, scratch
Throwing Muses, my vote goes to Bob's Your Uncle (I really _did_ have
some reasons to pick TM - female vocalist, ethereal sound that would be a
great counterpoise to the live SG experience, but somehow I think it's
probably my own private fantasy double bill).

they were a sort of high-energy african rhythm band, with lots of dancing

young drummer. I talked to him at the bar after the show, and asked him
which drummers he admired. he listed his, and I said that I really liked
matt cameron from soundgarden. he surprised me by saying that when
soundgarden last toured here in australia, matt cameron put on a drum

for the day. he said that matt was a very cool guy, which was not
surprising :) I envied him all night long.

he helped produce one of the screaming trees earlier albums with
terry date (uncle anasthesia), and he sung on a couple of songs. but
most important of all, he played the recorder on one of the tracks. I
listened to it in the record store, but it wasn't very distinct. maybe
he should have brought himself forward in the mix :)

btw, regarding hiro and why he left soundgarden, I read in an old

Yup, and they get a bit of airplay on Australia's biggest 'alternative'
radio station, Triple J. In fact, 'certain slant of light' is on
triple j's hottest 100 vol.2 compilation. I've got their 'edge of

They would be the perfect band to open for SG (or to tour by themselves,
actually).

Hey, that's an idea! I find POTUSA to be similar to the Violent Femmes, in
that they both sing fun and trippy songs, with a very unique style. They'd
both be a good contrast to Soundgarden, and of course with POTUSA opening,
Kim T would get to play in both bands.........

Hey, Tony, who gives a shit about getting flamed? I too thought of
Silverchair - but mainly because they like Soundgarden so much. I think
they'd be one band that would really appreciate the honour of being able to
play at a concert before their heroes (our heroes too!) took to the stage.
And if they could also play with Helmet and Tool, well hey, they'd be in
seventh heaven!

Thought I'd better elaborate on my original "Fur didn't do much for me"
statement.
FYI, they consist of a female vocalist and bass player, and a male drummer.
I thought their drummer was very good. Talented. Their bass player might
be good too, but she's such a DEADSHIT on stage!!!!! Okay, so as a general
rule, bass players might not be the mostly lively of people when they play,
but hell, this girl looked so bored it seemed she would rather be anywhere
than where she was. For me, to see a band perform as if they don't enjoy
what they're doing, makes it harder to enjoy them myself. And the vocalist
looked to me like she was trying so hard to act like a heavy metal
headbanging thing - with her over-exaggerated guitar strokes and her
screaming voice. Even live, I couldn't understand a damn word she sang (I
use the term 'sang' loosely). HOWEVER (!!), I actually liked the tunes they
played. In fact, if they had a different vocalist I'd probably have liked
them as much as I did Sidewinder & Powderfinger..............

i don't think alice in chains would be a ggod opening band either, but
not because they're not good enough. they wouldn't be good to open for
soundgarden because they're not an opening act anymore. they're too good
to open for a band. aic and sg share a lot of the same fans, and i'll
admit that aic is on a downswing, while sg is on the upswing, but aic has
had its own tours, it headlined palooza (well, right behind primus
anyway), they had the balls to bail on the opening of the rock and roll
hall of fame. in plain english, too many people would come just to see
aic, then might not be as excited to see sg, especially considering the
fact that aic hasn't done anything in a long time. now, i could see coc,
or mad season maybe, but i heard some other band, and i am blanking on
it. i want to say toadies or something like that. anyway

quoi?

yeah, I knew ross. and I have grave doubts regarding jack irons'
professionality. first he declines to join pearl jam. then he's playing
with the red hot chili peppers. then he somehow ends up with eleven, whom
he totally blows off to run away from and joins up with pearl jam, who
btw dropped one of the best drummers going around for their old friend
jack. more unilateral decision making prowess on the behalf of eddie, imho.

he's worse than that jason everman. and he's got no chops
whatsoever. and if you're a guy who can leave one band for another band
while the first is in the middle of recording an album, then not much can
be said. I'm sure that I don't know the whole jack irons story (nor do I
want desperately to), but he seems like a pretty fishy character to me.
its just lucky that eleven knew such a nice guy as matt, so that they
could finish their record with a minimum of hassles.

btw, if there are any dave abbruseesse fans on the list, his new
band is called ten hands, and they have started to record some material,
although they don't have a record deal yet.

this is pretty cool. until now I thought that the cyberian
rhapsody would be kinda boring, but I just read at the site's homepage
that matt cameron will actually be playing with the orchestra live, as
well as barrett martin the drummer from the screaming trees.
