so we've heard all the votes for chris, kim and hiro as the lead
role of god in his next movie. but noone wants to cast ben or matt.

I say matt looks a lot like goofus, the norwegian god of drums

himself as lyle lovett, but if that is His holy wish, then who am I to

which contemporary band would be the best contrast? why would
they chose your band? could kim or chris jam with them and play well?
would the tour photos look cool?

I forsee them touring with a newly reformed living colour. they
can both play an hour set, both from their respective new albums, and
then they could have a play off: matt vs. will, vernon vs. kim and doug
vs. ben. and then chris and corey could lead the two bands in a mix of
mailman and postman (they wrote songs about the same thing).

No, but he _did_ originate the pose. And he was an axe man, in the
carpenterial sense.

It's been years since I took my art history classes, but I seem to
remember that Jesus hasn't always been portrayed as a blond haired, blue
eyed man. Every culture tweaks the image of Jesus a little bit, I guess
to make his face more simpatico to the masses (ok, not every culture -
those in which Christianity has some sort of foothold). Of course, Jesus'
Aryan incarnation has been used, perversely, to argue that people of other
races are somehow inferior. Those people need to spend less time
looking at pictures and more time actually reading the Bible. Anyway, I've
seen paintings of Jesus as a Mediterranean-looking man, a black man, and
an Asian man. I'm thinking he probably would have had short, dark, curly
hair, dark eyes, and an olive complection. But then, I've only seen
pictures of his mother, so I don't know. He may have gotten the blonde
hair and blue eyes from his Father. I'm going to have to say that I lean
ever so slightly more towards Kim as the Jesus look-alike in the band.

I have always been under the impression that Chris is what alot of people
call "Black Irish". The black hair blue eyed variety. There are lots of
Anglo-Saxon groups with that complexion and coloring. Of course in this
country most people are such a mixture anymore who knows and truthfully who
cares. The package looks fine and the talent inside is excellent! By the
way I still say with Chris' short hair he looks more devilish. Although the
long hair did give him a Messiah look at times.

I would say highly unlikely who in africa or the middle east would have
Blue eyes or Blonde hair, if not for european influences? Besides the
genes for dark hair and eyes are dominant over the ones for blue eyes and
blonde hair. So it is likely that jesus did not have blue eyes or blonde
hair. This debate is getting really silly, there is no evidence to really
support a european jesus everything points to it being false. We live in a
society dominated by europeans and so they are not going to change the
picture of jesus. So lets move on.

There, you've made my point for me. It is not likely that Jesus
had blonde hair and blue eyes, but it is *possible*. The darker
pigment genes may be dominant, but as any high school biology
student can tell you, if there are two of the recessive genes, the
recessive trait occurs. And those recessive genes are present in
many races with darker complexions. Sorry i had to keep this
going.

Here's something to ponder. Many literary reports of Jesus said
that he had fiery RED hair, which would eliminate both Chris and Kim as
lookalikes. Also, if Jesus really was the son of God, I'm sure that he
COULD play Outshined -- maybe even Spoonman.

Here is some more info that was requested on the book. If you need more
info after this just let me know and I will be even more specific (not sure
exactly what info you want). The book is softcover, approximately 5 1/2" x
7 1/2". 214 pages plus a Discography and a Chronology. It has small black
and white pictures throughout the book (not that many but some I have never
seen before). The official title is "Soundgarden: New Metal Crown" by
Chris Nickson. First publication November 1995. I have not read the
entire book (never enough time) but it starts out with a history of music
that kindof gives a background of where Soundgarden came from. It seems to
be written pretty well especially for only $10.95 plus shippring. Hope
this is the info you needed.

I think I said it before - I'd love to see a HUGE show with Soundgarden and
Alice In Chains (but who would be top billing?)

However, if it was in Australia, I'd love to see a local band open for
Soundgarden - Tumbleweed, perhaps? Highlight some of Australia's talent!

But for me, just seeing SG live would be great (OK, so that's a bit corny,

From: Carolyn <carolyn.hanel@mtg.for.csiro.au>
Subject: I was a groupie

Hi folks. Last night I was lucky enough to see 3 Australian bands that are
touring at the moment, at one of our local pubs. Lucky because not living
in a city, we don't tend to get many bands here to go to. Lucky also
because playing in a pub to only 150-or-so people is wonderfully intimate.

One of the bands was Powderfinger. Some of you might remember I wrote to
the list a while ago because I'd just heard their music, and I was very
impressed with their vocalist, Bernard Fanning, because he had such strength
in his voice, a lot like our Chris Cornell. To hear him sing last night was
fantastic. So here comes the groupie bit. I felt I just HAD to go and
speak to him after the show to tell him what a wonderful singer I thought he
was. And I took with me a pen and piece of paper to get his autograph! (I
never do things like this). Because we were all only in the small room, I
was able to just wander up and introduce myself as they were packing up
their equipment, and tell him how impressed I was. He was a great guy, and
took it as a real compliment when I told him I have him right up there with
Chris Cornell. And of course he signed my bit of paper............

SO, do any of you have similar stories of talking to band members, be they
from Soundgarden or another band? When I say talking, I mean in real
conversation where there aren't hundreds of other people around clamouring
to talk to them also.

BTW, the other two bands playing with Powderfinger were Fur and Sidewinder.
Fur didn't do much for me, but Sidewinder was excellent. If any Aussies
have a chance to see these bands, do so!!

Oh, and the Silverchair concert I went to last week was pretty cool. Even
some of you diehard Soundgarden fans (like me) would have enjoyed
yourselves, I'm sure. They played with such enthusiasm and energy. And boy
can they thrash. Israel's Son was just brilliant..........the crowd went
berserk.
(Krissy - I haven't forgotten to write to you about this - I'm getting there!!)

Keep rocking everyone

We got Tea Party down here in Aus - I saw them at Australia's Alternative
Nation festival --> great band, good choice for opening for SG.

Aaah, but don't forget Jesus IS God. He can do ANYTHING!!

That's why Soundgarden is so special - they can do the stuff God can do!!!!

Cos remember, playing SG stuff is something no mere mortal can do.....

jump in on the bandwagon though!}

I guess that's what I was trying to say! Great point about him being able
to play the songs off their as yet unmade albums......

Ok, people, let's comprise a list of all the instruments Chris has
ever playued for a recording or live.
1. Drums
2. Bass
3. Guitar
4. Banjo
5. Harmonica
6. (Allegedly, whatever you call that chime instrument on black cat)

Ok, i'm sure there are more, but none are coming to my mind right now,
so any additions to the list are more than welcome. -j

You know, I think the ultimate tour (though nigh impossible.... :) ) would be
Monster Magnet, Corrosion of Conformity, AIC and Soundgarden... Wouldn't that
kick ass, or is it just me??? That's what a "festival" tour should be like....

Fur was feature on an MTV special about new bands out of the land down under
(the special was mostly on Silverchair). But they did give Fur a good review -
could it have been a bad night, or is our Carolyn a better judge of bands......

Hey, do you really want to hear all about my groupie days???? Lets remember I
been around when little know bands like Arrowsmith, Foreigner, Thin Lizzy, Roy
Harper (who they ask), ELO, The Who, Guess Who, and a few others were just the
opening act.. I have met members from each - and did the goofy fan stuff.

But, I did get to spend an hour or more sitting with Rory Gallagher - talking,
drinking, I even helped him string his guitar for the next show. It was the
thrill of my life, I walked 5 feet off the ground for days. He was a truly a
great artist and human being....

Blind Dog: Your question about opening act - there is a local band by the name
of "Kage" that would be a great opening act for Soundgarden. They are a three
member band, that's does a mean metal sound and great for head banging. There
is also a band out of Annapolis by the name of "Jimmy Chicken Shack", that is
good. Both groups have CD's out.

Jamie

BTW: Does a roadie count in this, it was always easy to meet the roadies.

Glenn, why aren't you working for them? That is a majorly cool idea. I
had almost forgotten about C.O.C. But yeah, that would be the perfect
festival. -j

And great mutterings they are too, Blind Dog! Just the kind of question I like.

Without hesitation, I say Violent Femmes. Because they are so different
from Soundgarden (and yet I love both these bands), hearing them together
would be such a good contrast - I think they'd complement each other well.
And wouldn't it be cool to have the Femmes sing "Add it Up" and then
Soundgarden sing "Big Dumb Sex"?

Just imagine it: "why can't I get just one kiss......why can't I get just
one screw.....why can't I get just one fuck..." followed by "I know what to
do - I'm gonna fuck fuck fuck fuck you" !! :-O

I've seen the Femmes live twice - and they're excellent. Really get the
crowd in. And I WANT to see Soundgarden live - I'm sure they'd be fantastic
too. What more could I ask than to see these bands together? I'd be right
up there in heaven with Jesus (who'd be playing all the songs from
Soundgarden's next three albums, of course!!).

But I also agree with Aleko and Jackhammer - Tumbleweed is one great
Australian band that would really rock wildly with Soundgarden.......you
non-Aussies just don't know what you're missing out on!!

Personally, I'd like to see Monstermagnet open for SG on the tour for the
new album. AIC would be even better, but it would never happen. Egos, ya'
know. Actually, it could be just what AIC needs to "get back in the swing
of things." They've kind of slipped from where they were before their
little hiatus. _Dirt_ is still their best record.
