Subject: Why I like SG

I'm a bit behind everyone else, this subject was discussed last week, or
earlier (I was asleep for a week, you see). The reason I Like (note the
capital L) Soundgarden is that they KICK ARSE! Not just normal arse...I mean
those big, flabby, bus-seat filling kind. They kick them into orbit.
That is it in a nutshell, but I could fill your screen with reasons.
Powerful, emotive songs, intelligent lyrics (I bet if any English Lit
lecturer read SG's lyrics, they would think it was a postmodern masterpiece:
irony, contrast, symbolism and all that...the same goes for Nirvana
lyrics), talented musicianship....and so on. I'll leave it there, huh.

Subject: Stolen Prayer

I didn't read the whole conversation (if there was one), so I don't
know the whole story. What I say here may have already been said.

On 21st of Oct, Ansel (I think that's your name, sorry if it's wrong)
posted the lyrics to Stolen Prayer by CC. I did't remember hearing of an SG
song of that title, but I recognised the lyrics. I later realised that
this song appears on a CD my brother owns.. Alice Cooper - The Last Temptation.

Sure enough, Chris is credited for writing the song on that album, and
he does the backing vocals. Actually, I think the lyrics are a bit different
on Alice's version to what was posted by Ansel (maybe the old fossil thought
the song needed some work). Chris also wrote a song called Unholy War on that
album.

I don't know if this is news to anyone out there, but I thought I
should tell you just in case.

Yes you should have posted it personally. If you would have followed the
whole string of this debate instead of shooting your undoubtedly big mouth
off, you would have realised that the only thing blind dog and myself
were objecting to was taking up space on this list with shit that has
nothing to do with Soundgarden. If you really need this sort of stuff to
tide you over until the next album comes out then this probably isn't the
place for you anyway. Most of the people who joined this list can find
plenty to talk about that is Soundgarden, or at least music
related.

I'm not paranoid, I just don't want to piss the other members of the list
off by flooding their boxes with this sort of stuff. If it was just one
message it wouldn't be a problem, but it happens everyday. Hell this
debate itself wouldn't have extended past the original post if dickheads
like yourself hadn't posted your abuse to the list.

Finally thanks for voicing your opinion of me as a loser. Maybe if you
had ever had anything worthwhile to say on this list, I might take notice
or perhaps even care. Until then either get some knowledge and talk
Soundgarden or keep your trap shut!

To tell the truth, I could do without Chains (Please don't shoot) How about
SG and Nirvana?

SG:

1. Beyond the Wheel
2. 4th of July
3. I Awake (oh yes)
4. Power Trip
(Yeah, that's four. Sue me.)

Nirvana

1. Lounge Act
2. Aero Zeppelin
3. Drain You

And just to ensure that my mailbox is once again set afire by the flames
with which it fills, I add my three least favorite SG tunes:

1. MIND RIOT
2. My Wave
3. Fell on Black Days

P.S. When you're all finished flaming me, I'd be psyched if someone would
figure out the missing lyrics in those songs posted the other day. Kudos to

Someone was asking about PJ's version of "Outshined" and the response was
that it sucked. Well, if anyone has heard the tape from SG's '92 performance
at Lollapalooza in Seattle (or if anyone of you were there), you'll notice
that the backup vocals sound strange on that song. At first I thought that
Matt was really sick, he sounded as though he had the flu and had just gotten
out of bed!! But after watching it for a bit, I noticed someone hiding behind
Matt's drumkit. Then this person popped up to combine his vocals with
Chris's. You guessed it, Mr. Vedder!! Damn, he ALMOST ruined the song, but
never fear, SG saved the day 'cause Eddie can't outsing Chris.

If you hate getting bull shit mail every day, then why do you deem it
neccessary to post a bull shit response to every bull shit message? You
are only doubling the amount of bull shit on the list. So you see, you
are half of the problem which you claim to despise. Instead of doing
that, why don't you simply hit the delete key for bull shit (like the
rest of us)? No mailing list in the world is totally kosher. Whenever
conversations are present, people are sure to stray from the main topic
at hand. Mind you, that is not a bad thing - it ads flavor. But what is
bad is your bull shit response to everything. In the future, just hit
delete. Thank you, drive through.

but here's my choice:

1. RUSTY CAGE - one of THE BEST intros to a song........ever, it's fast, racey,
and I love the unusual rhythm in the

2. DRAWING FLIES - cool lyrics, delivered with great gusto by Chris,
and I love the hard rock sound of this
song.......motivational!!

3. SPOONMAN - great to sing to, nice and fast, upbeat,
and I love the uniqueness of the spoon
solo.......brilliant!!

There you go. Those three songs rolled off the top of my head quicker than

Here in Boston there are two stations that I listen to frequently that

I guess I'll take this opportunity to introduce myself also. My
name is Mike Travers. I'm 20 years old and I'm currently a freshman at
Northeastern University here in Boston, MA. I'd have to call myself a
new SG fan. I had heard some of the older "mainstream hits" such as
Outshined and Jesus Christ Pose, but didn't buy a SG album until
Superunknown. I've only been subscribed to this list for about 4 days,
but find it interesting.

I have to agree with the people who wrote in about Pearl Jam
covering a SG song. I don't ever want to hear a mumbled incoherent
version of The Day I Tried to Live, Kickstand, or Fell On Black Days.
Which I guess would be my favorite SG songs right now. Favorite 3 AIC
songs. Don't Follow, Got Me Wrong, and Would?

Please continue your argument privately. That means all three of you.
At one point the fighting was actually related to posts that were made
to the list; now the fighting seems to be about the right to fight and
has degenerated into a name-calling pride war. Well, go ahead and
fight, but please, for the sake of everyone else on the list, do it
privately.

[Please note also that I am not taking sides in this argument]

thanks,
seth (listadmin)
