Subject: Web page status
From: seth <saperl@MIT.EDU>

Things are starting to look brighter for the future of the Web page.
I've managed to convince those nice sysadmins to take some time out of
their busy schedules and actually help a user in trouble (me). So,
some of the files are now updated (the 27 new images are available!).
The mailing list archive works (only after he said "but you don't have
any files in that directory on the old machine" and I went apeshit).

The guitar tabs have been temporarily removed, while the revised
editions are located along with their index. The resources page seems
to have gone the way of the dodo, but I'm searching (with my good eye
closed, naturally). The art gallery is back up, as is the list member
directory (http://www.sgi.net/soundgarden/list), for which I should be
receiving all of your photos any day now, right?

So I'm hoping to have everything back to normal tomorrow. I know that
you guys have been losing sleep over this (I have, believe it or not),
but just stay calm and it will all be over soon.

[by the way, the new server is fast fast FAST; Netscape retrieves and
loads 100kB JPEGS in less than 2 seconds]

Hmmm...the first song I heard that got me into SG was Outshined, without
a doubt. I don't know anybody who doesn't like that song. My mom likes
it, for crying out loud! Anyway, Outshined is a great song, I think it
relates to me in a way what Soundgarden is really all about. Every
memeber of the band is contributing their own unique style, and I
basically have to change my boxers after every time I hear that song.

Little Joe, I think you and Blind Dog have very apt names - Little minds =
and Blind to anything you don't agree with.
Sara was just trying to promote friendship. OK maybe you don't need to =
include your height, weight and educational background etc. but what is =
the sense in sharing this mailing list with others when you don't give a =
shit anyway. If you guys are only interested in SG facts then buy a =

Or maybe you think we should just continue rambling on about the meaning =
of SG songs or Chris Cornell's age or whether Kim is a woman or not.
As for the subject line, if you read EVERYTHING that comes in then maybe =
you should send your bio in, you sound like you could use some friends.

Jamie's here - always hiding in the shadows of the noon day sun (with the Dark

1. I started listening to Soundgarden because of Mother Love Bone - I'm a big

2 . I hail from the Washington, D.C. area - (Arlington, VA).

Subject: in the beginning...

the song that got me into soundgarden, eh? hmmmmm.....

well, the video clip for loud love definitely peaked my interest.
enough to prompt me to borrow my friend's louder than love album and
give it a few listens. i liked it, but alas i was so
young...(letsee...yeah like 15 or something) it didn't quite click
with me. i LIKED it, but i didn't have it on the same pedestal where
it lies today.

so the song that REALLY got me into them would have to be rusty cage,
overheard between sets at a friend's gig in a catholic dance hall. (he
supplied the music for the intermission, btw...although i think sg is
quite appropriate in any religious setting, and would really liven up
mass...)

i bought badmotorfinger the next day and the rest is history...

Subject: Web site, my posts...

samm@mail.usa1.com (Samson Frederick M.), your comments are truly
appreciated. I, like you, am of the opinion that people should utilize all
of the information that they have available, and duplicate it as little as
possible.

Just to defend my position - I hadn't personally seen the discography. The
website was acting up, or so I had read in the newsgroup. And, finally,
some people in this group don't even know what SOMMS stands for. Every time
someone repeats something, it has a TEENSY WEENSY probability of getting
through, website or no website.

So, in the future, I personally will double-check the website to ensure I'm
not just duplicating someone else's effort. I suggest that we all could
learn from Samson's advice.

Samson, unless the several unrelated sources that I have are all wrong - it
was bad heroin - not an overdose, not "better than normal." Bad, as in
killer. That's why four other people died that weekend. Andrew Wood was
one of my favorite musicians, I still think that Chloe Dancer is better than
90% of all Soundgarden music - I try to do my homework. It was bad heroin.

Also - sorry I ragged on your song. :-( But, I mean - hey. "Jesus, I
don't like my penis?" What's up with that? I imagine Chris and his penis
probably have a very good relationship. Isn't Exit Stonehenge a cover of a
song from the movie Spinal Tap? Or, am I just an idiot?

Alright, to add my touch to your contribution:
(I didn't change much. You were dead right on several of your guesses, but
the wording was slightly different in a couple cases, as far as I could tell.)

Nowhere But You
- ----------------

Nowhere but you
I'm gone until I'm within you
Nowhere but you
There is no (better) place that I've been to

And if I'm condemned
Let me rest on my pillow
And dream of those moments so few
And if I'm blessed
I'll be chasing your shadow
There I go
Nowhere but you
Nowhere but you
Nowhere but you

When you were here
I thought that I would never miss you
When you were gone
I felt that I had never lived here

And if I'm condemned
Let me rest on my pillow
And dream of those moments so few
And if I'm blessed
I'll be chasing your shadow
There I go
Nowhere
Nowhere but you
Nowhere but you
Nowhere but you
Nowhere
But you

Fluttering
- ------------

And drinking dust
With eyes of rust
Tonight my tears might stain your wings
So flutter home
'Cause you're better off alone than with me

So hide your face
And tie your lace
And butterflies across your cheek
Forget how soon
You'll become a fool for words when I speak

Flutter girl
You don't want to know what I've lived
You don't want to take what I give
And I give nothing for free

You don't want to know what I've lived
You don't want to take what I give
And I give nothing for free

My hands are rough
My fingers cold
Your heart's so young and so naive
To ever feel
For a moment that I might let you believe...

I'll melt your smile
I'll tear your wings
I'll color everything you see
So flutter home
'Cause you're better off alone than with me

Flutter girl
You don't want to know what I've lived
You don't want to take what I give
'Cause I give nothing for free

And you don't want to know what I've lived
You don't want to take what I give
'Cause I give nothing for free

(Long solo...)

Flutter girl
You don't want to know what I've lived
You don't want to take what I give
And I give nothing for free

You don't want to know what I've lived

(I don't know if this is posted someplace else, and I'm sorry if it is.)
- ----------------------------
Black cat, black cat's gone
Gone for good, gone for long
Don't believe that he left me alone
And I hope he don't come home

Looking back, the black (past)
Trust him once, lost my map
Trust again to save my bones
And I never made it back

Black cat, black cat's gone
Gone for good, gone for long
Don't believe I made it home
And I hope he don't come home

Never had anything
Never lose and I never win
Lost my only love, never get her back
There's a black cat on my back

Black cat, black cat's gone
Gone for good, gone for long
Don't believe that he left me alone
And I hope he don't come home

Beg for mercy, laying low
Down where the poor dogs go
Lick my wounds, when (I go home)
Death is spiriling down
Death is low

Black cat, black cat's gone
Gone for good, gone for long
Can't believe that he left me alone
And I hope he don't come home

Every day, every hour
Another baby's born
Going to hang my head, (dry and blind)
'Til the black cat drags it home

Black cat, black cat's gone
Gone for good, gone for long
Can't believe that he left me alone
And I hope he don't come home

Beg for mercy, I'm laying low
Down where the poor dogs go
Lick my wounds, when I grow old
The sun is down and gone
The sun is down
The sun is down and gone
The sun is down
The sun is down and gone
The sun is down
The sun is down and gone

Black cat

The sun is down and gone

Hope he don't come home
I hope he don't come home
I hope he don't come home

I can't see how U2's Hold me, fuck me, suck me sounds anything like Spoonman, I
would like to know what the similarities are meant to be. I also want to know
which SG song it was that someone on the list claimed STP had ripped Vaseline
off of. I can't think of many bands that truly sound like SG or rip off one of
their songs, grunge soundalikes usually stick to Pearl Jam & Nirvana, I know
Silverchair are alleged to mimic SG but i've only heard like about 30 seconds of
their music on the radio so i'll reserve judgement. Saying that there is a
horrible band from here in England called The Almighty who totally changed
their style after the advent of the "Seattle Sound", from sounding like GnR to
a very poor SG imitation. Also heard a tune by a band called Barkmarket on the
radio who sounded a bit like SG too, but they were actually ok.

Subject: Big Dumb Sex

I have been meaning to post this but I never have gotten around to
it. In some magazine(I think Alternative Guitar) this summer there was an
interview with Kim about all of their songs. In the article Kim basically
said that Big Dumb Sex was a joke. At the time all of the pop groups were
singing about sex, but they never actually said fuck... When I saw the
posting from DanaBT@aol.com It reminded me about that interview.
On an entirely different subject I think that one of the reasons
that there are so many silent people on this list is that they are probably
getting the digest version of the list. I get the digest version. When It
gets to me most of the postings are already several hours old. It then sits
in my email box until morning(another 8 or so hours). So If I were going to
post something It might have already been posted by someone else, or
everyone might have already moved onto another topic.

I kind of dig Spoonman. I don't know what kind of response that may

it has something I can't describe that keeps me hooked. It also has Artis, and
I am an extreme fan of bands which endeavor to explore new regions of rock.
Using spoons during Matt's solo is sweet!!!!
Some other comments while I'm here:

      1) Least favorite song: Richard Petty, Son of Kyle (or is it the other
way around? I forget, because I never listen to it!!!)
      2) What's this talk of "fair weather fans?" The first SG song I heard
was "Outshined," obviously in a different era that those "true" fans
revel in but I in no way classify myself as a "fair weather fan."

Subject: My soundgarden story

Allright this is how i got into soundgarden. My first esperience of any
soundgarden was outshined on mtv. I liked the song alot but i never
bought the album or anything. However, a friend of mine did buy the
album, after my continuous badgering to do so. Anyway he did not like
the album and after a while gave it to me. I thought it was ok but i
really just liked the first two tracks. I didn't think it was anything
special(I was vvery delusional at the time).
Time went on and one day(last year) i was listening to the album in my
car. (At the time superunknown was already out but i wasnt really
impressed by spoonman or black hole sun). Anyw, i parked my car for
fifteen minutes at school and my cd player was stolen, with the cd in it!
That sucked, but i figured, no big loss anyway.
About a week later, i heard Fell on Black Days for the first time on my
way to school. For the next three weeks i kept hearing this song on the
radio and saying to myself or whoever would listen that it was a great
song. Finally , then, I bought superunknown. But again i didn't thnk it
was great. It was good, not great though.
Time passed again and i was fucking arougn on my computer with my
friend(same fool who gave me badmotorfinger). We had the cd player on
shuffle and superunknown was in the machine. Anyway, the very smart cd
player played Like Suicide and Fourth of July in arow. We just looked at
each other and said,"did that just rock,or what?" From that day on we
both loved the album and i bought Bad MOtor Finger and realized that it
ruled equally.
I now know that soundgarden rules and am trying desperatley to buy more
albums and see them in concert one day.

Also, the guy who does the graphics (as if there is anything _besides_

Howdy, I saw that someone was looking into what got us all into SG so I
thought I'd put my two bobs worth in. I borrowed a taping of a taape, of
a tape etc... of LTL and it just happened to be on Gun. The rest, I
guess, is history. Pretty bloody riveting, eh!

Howdy, don't worry man, this isn't a flame! I must say I agree with
you. I can honestly say that I have never really heard a blatant ripoff
of SG. I think this may mainly be because there are very few people in
the world, if any who can do it. Take CC's voice for instance. If there
were others that sounded like him, I'm sure that they'd hAve a tad more
self respect than to put a band together sounding like SG. I am unsure
of my exact point but I hope you see what I am getting at.

Okay, ask and you will receive:

In a previous posting I stated that I would like to hear Chris do American
Woman - not knowing he had cover this song. Any way, Vikki responded that he
had done it. And low and behold I have it, well I just got it.

I picked up two imports last weekend Omega Paradise and Full on Kevin's Mom.
Tonight was the first time I got to play them. And there it was American
Woman. The God's are smiling on me.

Jamie

PS: I like both CD's - I really like Come Together, again another cover (Sly's
song I think). They were worth the $40 I put out.

Soundgarden tapes that I don't have. What a nice person, huh? So, pretty
soon Iam going to posting on here about all the songs I can now listen to.
Have a nice day every one, and if you are a college student, get to your
classes!!!!!!

Well, I got a few responses about my original posting (part of it above).
It seems I've been very deprived by not having seen a Soundgarden video.

BUT NEVER FEAR! Jamie (yes, our village idiot Jamesetta Simpson) has come
to my rescue. She will be sending me a video of Soundgarden stuff, so I'll
be able to catch up with all you guys already in the know. Thanks a
billion, Jamie!!

I just got England's Spoonman single and i have heard Exit Stonehenge for
the first time. What possessed Soundgarden when they recorded that?
Don't get me wrong, i even like the lyrics, but the music...It just
doesn't sound like them. Doesn't mean that i don't like the song, just
that it sounds som unsoundgarden.. Once again, the boys prove their
diversity. Later all. -j
