One last time... Stone Temple Pilots had their first gig in October of
1990 (yes, 1990, looked it up in a book I came across today), opening for
Rollins Band. Now, tell me, what sound was established in 1990? Why would
they rip off SG, PJ or Nirvana, when they were as unknown at the time as
STP themselves, or didn't even exist? What's the point and logic in that?
They also have a time machine (or maybe even borrowed it from George

I hope these comments are not taken as a flame, since this was a mercifully
soundgarden-related post from someone who obviously knows his soundgarden.
But it brings to mind the fact that Seth maintains a site loaded with
information which people could read and make references to (and bump up the
hit-count -- who knows, Seth could get advertising!)

For instance:

>TEMPLE OF THE DOG (Members from Soundgarden, Pearl Jam to be, and Rick
>Parashar)
>(Major release - easy to find - dedicated to Andrew Wood, from Mother
>Love Bone who died from bad Heroin, along with 4 other people in the
>Seattle area, one weekend.)

...is not necessary to mention, nor is the list of songs, partly because
most people already know, but mainly because its listed in Seth's
discography. (On anoother note, people usually die from _good_ heroin, ie.,
heroin that's several times more pure than what they're used to shooting.
But I don't know the specifics with Wood. Maybe it was MPPP, although I
doubt it.)

>
>SOUNDGARDEN - SOMEWHERE

This, along with some of the other bootlegs you mention is listed on the
bootleg discography also maintained by Seth, reached via a rather
inconspicuous link on the main discography, so a full songlist is not
necessary. You might just refer us to the page. On the other hand,

> 11. Slaves & Bulldozers 16:37 (That's right SIXTEEN MINUTES!!!)
>(Beyond The Wheel starts off with Chris singing Hey Jude.
>Slaves & Bulldozers - this is the best version of it that I have ever heard.
>It also contains Chris singing a little of Pearl Jam's "Alive" - better than
>Pearl Jam did it.)

Reviews like this are worth posting. I wish there were more. Also, at least
one of the bootlegs you mention, _Stingray_, is not on the bootlist, so
that's worth giving a song list -- then maybe Seth can post it, and the
world will be a little wiser.

Finally,
>
>There was a Radio Station record that Soundgarden had - it contained a cover
>of - some Beatles song - I can't remember which - but it was AWESOME. I
>never owned it, but - hey - I thought I'd mention it.

This is a good example of a question that can be answered by consulting the
discography. There you will find the radio promo compilation, _Foreshocks_,
which includes the Beatles' "Come Together." (They also covered
"Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey", but I
don't think that's what you're referring to.

Maybe we should all take some of the time we might spend posting and look
through the web-site front to back.

Another wise consumer. By the way, I posted a (rusty) transcription of the

I think we should get this whole disc transcribed. The Soundgarden page

If only the Website weren't fucked up. I still don't have access to
any of my files on Stargate's new server, which is why easily half of
the links don't work and those that do work are obsolete versions (for
example, those 27 new images I mentioned in a previous post are
completely inaccessible; they don't even exist on the new server). The

I'm just hoping that I'll get access to my files tomorrow so our page

That gives me an idea for another survey/poll type thing! What was the first
song you (the current reader of this E-mail, whomever it may be . . . oh
what the heck, all you SG fans!) heard of SG that got you into them? I also
saw Black Hole Sun on MTV, but I just couldn't stand that video! Then my
friend got the album, and while I was just flipping through its tracks, I
heard 4th of July, and BOOM: copied the album to a tape and brought it home.
After I got used to it (before Soundgarden, I didn't even like any form of
rock music!), I went and got the TAB (guitar music for all you outsiders) for
it and . . . . well . . . lived happily ever after? Rocked! . . . yeah, I

of demos from Seattle bands. I didn't pay attention to the other bands,
but one of the Soundgarden songs was called "My summoning" or something
like that. I could be wrong though because my memory isn't functioning
very well right now. At any rate i know the song was one i haven't seen
listed on the discogs. I'll go in the store again tomorrow and check the
name of the song again. Does anyone else know about this song? Well,
thanx for any help, j

SOMMS is supposed to sound like Psalms, y'know, those are Soundgarden's
Psalms! Right? I am way off the mark with this one?

i'd hardly call punk a waste though. a lot of good bands either have
roots in punk or got into music because of punk. just because punk is
easy to play and write, doesn't mean it's not good music. U2 started as a
punk band, the whole grunge seattle thing is grounded in punk, and the
clash were punk, but they were also a great band, which spawned other
good bands, such as big audio dynamite. because of the sex pistols, we
have public image limited. the clash were a very intense band, with some
of their songs not only very good musically, but also very intricate (no,
i'm not talking about "should i stay or should i go") even rancid is more
than just a punk band, they do some good ska as well.

they don't sound like the garden, but they are a great band. or that
would be were a great band. still, definitely worth picking up. there are
about five really good songs on the album, and the rest aren't too bad.
