I think this is the point I tried making a couple of months ago when
Silverchair was slammed. Anyway, it's quite invigorating to see the same
arguments debated by new people - gives us all fresh insight.

Anyway, (& I'm another one who uses that word a lot!), let me hereby
officially welcome you to the soundgarden mailing list, Sara. I like what
you write and the way you put your views across. i.e. in an amusing &
light-hearted way without shoving them down our throats. You also have a
great attitude, and this sorts of attitude is fantastic at beating
flame-throwers at their own game!!

I've been reading the list for several months (I think) now. Perhaps many of you don't even remember a single post from me. Why?

As you can see, I live in Mexico a beautiful country but
unfortunately all the SG news I get come from you, so I can never
express myself on some matter because I don't have info to share, I
may post regarding something on which I strongly desagree but that's
it. Does that mean I won't have many friends on the list? I think mine

I'm working on it. I've gotten all of the tabs from ftp.nevada.edu
(thanks Jeremy) and I'm currently in the process of formatting them.
Many songs, like "Black Hole Sun," for example, have several versions
of the tablature, each trancribed by a different person, so I'm trying
to figure out a good way to index them.

They WILL be done. Eventually.

And about Ty Cobb (the player): He until Lou Brock (if I recall correctly)

Nobody on this list is more important than anyone else. Everyone has
the right to post as much or as little as he/she wants, and those
people who post more just tend to become friendlier (sometimes) with
each other. But your opinion is always welcome here, and I value it no
less than I value opinions that come from anyone else.

When you compose mail in AOL, there is a little button that says
"Attach File" or something like that. Just click it, choose the file
you want to attach, and send me the message.

Cobb was definitely a record-holder. I think he's had over 40 major
league records, but the batting average is the only one he still
holds. But, it seems more likely that Soundgarden would deal with his
cruel and self-destructive personality than the fact that he has the
fourth most RBIs (1,961) in major league history. I'd be VERY
interested to hear the new song... If any of you have seen the movie
"Cobb" (which is a slight exaggeration of how things really were, but
it approximates the truth) with Tommy Lee Jones, you know what I mean.

OK - Such a cartoon produced by one Jackhammer would be called
SuperLouderMotorFopp and would be about a high school dropout fronting a
band including a psychology graduate who recruit a bass player and drummer
to start up a detective agency. But this is no ordinary detective agency:
these guys have street cred and no-one picks them for the detectives they
are, whilst producing incredible music as a brilliant cover! With plenty of
musical interludes (eg. car chasing scenes to the tune of Rusty Cage) and
Jesus Christ Pose in the background as they solve another mystery, this show
would become a hit!

Anyone else?

The Soundgarden Mailing List's Member Directory (all 300+!) should be
included on all four sides of the box (ie. wrapped around) while if you send

Here, here my friend. You've said what I've been thinking for a while.

I recently posted some 'serious' questions about Soundgarden that I
thought would have some impact on the list, but it wasn't to be. I did
receive a very nice reply from Jamie stating she/he(?) liked my posting
and was no doubt looking forward to the responses herself/himself.

I did get a response to the film question - thanks, it's been bugging
me for ages - and 'one' addition to the Soudgarden journey theme but
that was it. Does that mean the other 247 of you really are more
interested in everyone else's favourite drinks, top tens and whether
or not Kim started life as a man or a woman, rather than talk about
Soundgarden? Maybe there should be two lists; Soudgarden - the band
and its music; Soundgarden - misc.crap (you can put this posting as
the first entry!)

Now, onto things Soundgarden-y. A few people have posted that they
saw the band at Reading and they were boring....
I suppose you mean visually, more than musically. Could it be the
'sensible' hair cut that has sent Chris all moody and brooding? Well,
come on, they're not getting any younger are they - I can't mosh
like I used to! Kim has always been rooted (Tony Iommi-like) to the
spot, Matt can't really go bouncing around now can he, Ben seems more
interested in seeing how many positions he can contort himself into and
Chris, well Chris as someone already mentioned, plays guitar now on
virtually all the songs which obviously restricts his movements.

The last time, and only time I have to confess, that I saw Chris
crowd surfing was during the BMF tour of March 92, and even then it
seemed like a token gesture rather than an impulse. The music is what
is important and what emotions it stirs in YOU. EVERY time I've seen
SG the crowd have had a good time - regardless of what the band were
doing on stage. Forget Chris surfing etc, watching him take fifteen
minutes to stretch his guitar strings half way across the stage and
be awash in the feedback was far more interesting.

Whether they were happy in an interview on MTV maakes no difference to
the fact that they played a wholly lacklustre gig. As for Chris
mentioning diarroeha on stage I certainly never heard it and I was 5
rows from the front for the entire gig. He did apologise for missing
last year and he said something about them flying by Aer Lingus but
that was it. He did'nt even say "cheers, bye" whatever, they just
sloped off stage.

Oh whatever, nevermind

On the subject of whether Big Dumb Sex has homoerotic overtones, could someone
clarify that statement?? I clearly remember reading a review of a SG gig back
in 92 where the reviewer said the gig was only marred by some anti-gay comments
from our Chris, don't have all the details but I DEFINATELY read it, does any
one know anymore about it??

OK im going to say this once and once only. Never, ever, compare
soundgarden to the New kids on the Block. Soundgarden is one of the, if not
the, coolest bands of all time;whereas the new kids were a bunch of
dancing fairies. And that is why they had a cartoon, and that is why
soundgarden shouldn't.

It does add more flava to the artist - absolutely. I grew up in
Smallsville, Illinois (not its real name) where muscial tastes were
pretty limited. If you were a teenage male you listened to AC/DC, Judas
Priest, Quiet Riot, Ratt, etc. etc. Bands that hit you over the head
with their straight lyrics. In the mid '80's there was only one
"alternative" radio program I could hear - a half hour every Friday night
on WXRT(?) from Chicago. I wasn't exposed to music that I could
really realte to until I got to college. I guess the ambiguity is a sign
of great lyric writing - I'm sure it's a hell of a lot harder to write a
song that extremely different people can relate to equally well. But
that's what great musical artists do - they transcend boundaries. And
SG, aside from being musically unmatched (IMHO), have that transcendent
quality too. And that's why I love 'em. Oh yeah, and CC is god (or is
he Jesus?).

OK, I'll step away from the podium now.

I'll keep my eyes open - we have 3 video channels on NYU-TV. I think
I've seen the Crash Test Dummies cover of "Peter Punkinhead" one too many
times (ARGH!). Love XTC, though!

Here's a collaboration idea I'll just toss out there. Velvet Underground
reunited last year for a while - maybe an SG/VU collab? It could be
a logistical nightmare - and I don't know who'd supply the heroin - but it
has possibilities, I think. Great potential for some excellent lyrics and
dark, brooding arrangements. Could be too depressing, though.
They'll have to keep the songs uptempo. Anyone?

Believe me with some of the notes the guy has to sing, it's a wonder he can
even stand! I guess he could run around and get all out of breath just
before he has to sing the chorus from Slaves and Bulldozers and maybe manage
a small peep.... then we would all be complaining that his voice is washed
up. Give the guy a break, folks.

Some things to think about:
	*Wheat flakes or puffed corn?
	*Shape(s)?
	*Marshmallows? Fruit? Nuts? Chopped steak?
	*Whose picture on the box?
*Prize inside (perhaps a rare import)?

What do you guys think? No flames, PLEASE!

Howdy!
This has nothing to do with soundgarden, but I thought it was
really wierd, soI figure I'll tell you about it. About a year ago I
had a dream. I went to my refrigerator and opened it. There wasn't
much in the frige, but there in the middle was a carton of orange
juice. Somehow in that dream sense that we all have I knew that the
O.J. was God. I had to take God with me somewhere, so I want to get
some twine to tie the carton on the roof of my car(just try
visuallizing this). When I came back the Carton was gone and now God
was a live baby rabbit and a can opener. So the last thing that I
remember is tying the rabbit and can opener together. Kinda strange
huh? Anyway I am new here and I figured this would be a good way to
introduce myself

By the way I do think that Soundgarden Rocks, but then again so does
everyone else here, so I figured I would write what I just did.

You know, this list is more than a way for people to discuss
Soundgarden... it's also a way to meet people with common interests.
There are quite a few of us here who've become like family, and it
isn't completely due to Soundgarden. Now Neil is new to this list,
and one of his first greetings here told him never to post again,
unless he had info on SG that BdMtrFngr didn't know. How the hell do
you think he feels about that?!? Has it gotten to the point where we
don't give a shit about how people feel anymore? Do you think Seth
wants new folks with something to contribute to get chased off the
list by careless, heavy-duty flaming? I doubt it. Neil, stick around.
Some of us care, believe it or not.

I don't actually have anything visible or audible that relates to
Soundgarden. I have many, many directories filled with all kinds of
SG-related material, though:

	discogs from several people
all of the images currently on the Web page
all of the images that have ever been on the Web page
images that have not yet appeared on the Web page
a ton of Photoshop files in various stages of completion
	a few WAVs
an RA file (soon, Tom, soon I will get to this)

Eventually, everyone will have access to most of this stuff (except
the Photoshop files)...

Just cuz I figured this may be intresting, what does your computer have on it
that's SG related? I have the entire desktop as Chris and Kim with their
guitars (sgguys1.jpg on the web page). A few wav's here and there, and I'm
now looking for an icon and an animated cursor.

About the idea ofa Soundgarden cartoon, I think THE BAND (at least
Kim) would never allow it ( Even less if once NKOTB did one). If
anyone happens to have the June 1992 issue of Guitar World, read the
interview made to Kim, Diamond Darrel (Pantera), Snake Sabo, Scotti
Hill (both from Skid Row). There, the interviewer asked Kim that since
he had been an avid Kiss fan, if he had liked the Marvel Kiss Comic
book. I think the question is similar to the cartoon series. To quote
Kim on that one, his answer was:

"No. [I didn't buy it] Actually it kind of bugged me."

BdMtrFngr: (And to the List)

Perhaps it was wrong that MoonDruid sent a non-SG message, But
if you hate this kind of crap, why the hell do you send 3 more? There
are many quarrels about non-SG shit but this stupid kind of fights are
the least SG-related posts on the list. C'mon people, let's put an end
this awful situation.

Posts arguing about non-SG material have become more than
non-SG material itself. Let's put an end to it.

Australia? Come on you gave us Neighbours, Kylie, Mental As Anything and
Prisoner CBH - cool??!! Sorry Carolyn only kidding, i'd love to come down to
that big brown land of yours, are you paying??!!

Daniel Garrett

P.s. I don't understand why She likes Surprises is'nt on all formats of
Superunknown, its at least the 2nd best track on there, although Chris does
sound a little like Axl on the verse.

Does anyone know what sort of friendship Chris may have had with the
late, great Kurt Cobain?? They obviously knew each other coming out of
the same scene and i know they liked each others band, Chris wore a
Nirvana t-shirt a lot and Kurt said Soundgarden were an influence when
he started out with Nirvana.

Anyone got any gossip on this??
