In your letter Sex...guitars...and translations you said that Kim and Chris=

Gibson guitars but most often they play Guild and Gretch. When Kim plays=20
Gibson he plays a re-released Gibson Firebird (he maybe plays other Gibsons=
=20
but i=B4m not sure). The guitar that Kim uses the most is a Guild SG.
Chris usually plays a Gretch (I don=B4t know what model but I know it=B4s a=
=20
Gretch. It=B4s those gold and silver colored guitars). Before The=
 Superunknown=20

If anybody out there knows what the Gretch guitar Chris plays is called and=

how much it costs and so on, could you please tell me? I wanna know. =20

So, you play guitar. Do you play in a band? What kind of guitar do you play?
How long have you played? What kind of music; own material or covers?

I myself play in a band. I play a Gibson Les Paul Standard, cherry sunburst,=
=20
all-gold hardware. We play own material but used to play Soundgarden covers=
=20
when we really sucked doing own songs. We are a quartet, I sing and play=20
guitar. Soundgarden songs are often hard, I learned to play them quite good,=
=20
but one thing i impossable when you play SG-songs, the vocals. Chris sings=
=20
like a god, and it=B4s quite hard trying to do that when you simply can=B4t=
 sing=20

Sorry MD but they didn't actually split, they are taking a break from
working together for a while. Mainly because they were having
problems with Drugs and arguments about them. However when the
next album will be out. Who can say?
To make it SG related. Have the lads ever thought (no offence to
Matt) of using a drum machine on any of their songs. It would make for
an interesting sound which I for one would like to hear.

Wouldn't it be cool if it were possible for us to get hold of the bands old
school reports, we can try to second guess them, eg for Kim it might
have been "very creative and good with his hands" or something along
those lines.

From: heaton@ix.netcom.com (Sid Heaton)
Subject: The Axes they Grind?

Couple things, sorry no tickee, no introducee,

- -- Kim's guitar looks like a bonafide, bonaroo, Gibson SG, but it's
not. Don't know why I know this, not sure it matters, but it's an
Epiphone knockoff. Don't know the model name/number, but 'tis an
epiphone. He switches off live to grab a guitar with the tunings
appropriate for a given number, but his main doo-fiddle is this
white-as-my-momma's-buttocks Epiphone SG-knockoff.

- -- Never even seen Chris play an SG style guit-fiddle. Seems like every
time I've seen him play, it's with a semi-hollow body, Gibsonesque
guitar. He doesn't seem to stick with one guitar long. Admittedly, I'm
mainly in the dark here.

- -- re: Top Ten Albums from Seattle. Why limit it to the '90's? It's
much more fun to say "OF ALL FREAKIN' TIME." Then, you get to include
(and this is only those I remember with two-too-many visits to yon
bourbon bottle):

    - Bing Crosby
    - The Kingsmen (yeah, admit it Louie-Louie-breath)
    - The Sonics
    - The Wailers
    - Hendrix
    - Heart (ugh, but gotta include 'em)
    - Steve Miller
    - Robert Cray
    - The Young Fresh Fellows (just ask the Replacements)
    - The Presidents of the United States of America
    - Stephen J. Bernstein
    - Queensryche (can't forget the East Side metal contingent)
    - The Posies (gotta love 'em -- they got Brent Musburger's nephew
      on drums)
    - Insert your fave here

And, if you wanna just say "Pacific Northwest" (or, if you're
cosmically hip, "Cascadia"), you could go ahead and bring on in your
fave-rave Vancouver and Portland bands. And, yes, while that does mean
Bryan Adams (argh), it also means Everclear. Checks and balances, and
all, dontchyaknow?

Oh, yeah -- fave drink? Scotch and ice, t'ankya.

"...Do you hear a cow?"

First, let's not censor ourselves here and just call it Badmotherfucker.

Second, I'm afraid I don't hold it in as high regard as some others here.

It was lost somewhere between the pure power of LTL and the elegance of
Superunk., matchiing neither in either. Dan Garrett is right in pointing
out that it was a breakthrough for the band in terms of musical complexity.
"Face Pollution" blows my mind. But "Mind Riot" is unlistenable (Cornell
goes beyond "dark" and gets downright whiny). And what's the deal with the
saxophones?

Let's face it, it was a transitional album. They had lost the unbridled
ferocity of Yamamoto, and Shepherd hadn't yet added his touch. In fact,
although taken as a whole I'd say Super. outshines any previous release,
Yamamoto has left a void that Shepherd hasn't quite filled. There will
never be another "Power Trip" or "I awake" (perhaps my two favorites of
all, musically). Yamamoto added yet more darkness to Cornell's brooding.
Shepherd, on the other hand has given the band more range with his lighter
touch.

Well, the slope up is also the slope down.
And I AM listening to Badmotherfucker now.

"Sitting here like uninvited company, sharing a cigarrette with negativity.
Sitting here like wet ashes with X's in my eyes and drawing flies."

People seem especially on edge about musicians from Seattle killing
themselves these days.

Well, it's a known fact that most of the poets and artists of all kinds
we learn about in school were 'social drop-outs', alcoholics, drug
addicts and stuff like that. I always thought that modern music and
poetry should be given much more attention in the school. Hell, Jimi
Hendrix wrote more beautiful songs than 50% of that which is taught in
school...

No need to sign a peace accord. Just remember, next time when you're
about to flame or attack someone. Stop for a minute. Think it over.
Maybe it wasn't mean in an offensive manner. Give some benefit of
doubt. And, most of all, learn to accept a different view. Present your
view, respect other people's views. And, most important: if you have to
conflict someone, don't attack the person, attack his opinions and his
arguments.

Sammy, i always thought "mind riot" had its music perfectly built around
Chris's lyrics. So it's not as dark, so what? Our boys do have a
little bit of musical diversity. Hell, do you know how many different
instruments Chris has played? (Unsaid fact: he played all of them a
little better than well) Well, i can't count that high. But, my point
is that sg has the ability to step out of the darkness and lend their
many talents to any song, and i don't see how you can call "mind riot" a
song where Chris whines. -j

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOTLEG! It is a waste of your money. It's just SG studio
songs with dubbed in crowd noise.

Dear all,
At work at the moment the guys in my room have been listening
to a rather cool tape from the film Judgement Night and it gave me an
idea for a discussion.
The tape is mainly a kind of joint effort from a bunch of different bands
working together such as Del the funky homosapien & Dinosaur Junior,
Sir mix a lot & Mudhoney, Run D.M.C & Living Colour and Ice-T & Slayer.
So how about different bands like this for Soundgarden to record with.
I think an interesting if nothing else pairing would be The Shamen &
Soundgarden.

What in the devil are you two talking about. Damn, first I get lesson on drum
and drummers - now we are doing the guitar thing. JUST JOKING guys. Since the
only musical instrument I play is the CD player (and badly at that), I find it
interesting to read this type of input - although I usually don't understand it
even after reading it several times. I guess I just have to find someone who
plays the guitar and have him explain it to me.

But, I would like to ask a question of all you bright guys on the CD player. I
have a simple problem. My CD player will not pick up the voice on the second
cut of Hater (Who Do I Kill). All I get is the music no words. I have played
the CD on other CD equipment and there is no problem - the word are there. Can
any one out there tell me why this is happening.

Yes, the Judgement Night soundtrack kicks ass. There is a song by Pearl
Jam and Cypress Hill, and a collaboration by Cypress Hill and Sonic
Youth (Cypress Hill is my fav rap band). If i remember correctly,
Mudhoney has a song up there too. But who would sg collaborate w/? How
about Scarface? Or Raekwon, Ghost Face Killer, INS, and Genius from Wu
Tang? Sound like good ideas to me. Wonder what the boys would say? -j

Hey, everyone, i'd like to know what your favorite album is that it seems
like no one else has heard of. "Incesticide" is heard of. Soundgarden
albums don't count. "Hater" is heard of. I mean albums that might jump
out of a bin and stay in your stereo for months at the time. Anyone else
have albums like that?

Chris/Seal singing Seasons, and Like Suicide.
Seal/Chris singing Future Love Paradise, If I could, Don't Cry.
Soundgarden and Seal doing: Mood for Trouble, Mind Riot, Head Down, Fell

Sting and Soundgarden Doing: Demolition Man, Little Wing, and Fourth Of

hello

i hope i don't offend anyone here, but i think that all of you who talk
about soundgarden not living up to your expectations should just be happy
that you've seen our favorite band live. for those of in the (albe them
few) parts of the country that soundgarden hasn't played in recent
memory, seeing the band even if chris forgot the words or kim's guitar
spontaneously combusted would still be a dream. you've been so close to
them...doesn't that count for a lot?
here's a top ten of all time everywhere (doesn't that count more?):
1. Radiohead...The Bends
2. Pink Floyd...The Wall
3. Soundgarden...Badmotorfinger
4. Nirvana...In Utero
5. Alice in Chains...Sap
6. Soundgarden...Superunknown
7. Beatles...Sgt. Pepper
8. Soundgarden...Ultramega OK
9. Meat Puppets...Meat Puppets II
10. Soundgarden...Screaming Life and Fopp

How's that??

not Soundgarden. It was Filter-Short Bus. A pretty good CD considering
that two guys did pretty much everything. One guy plays guitar and sings
and the other does everything with computers. Anyone else have an opinion

It's a common thing on all mailing lists. Some prefer to stay in the
shadow, for various reasons (lack of time, beeing shy, uncomfortabel,
etc.). Me, beeing the opinionated loonie that I am, can't stand to
seeing a conversation and not jumping in. To each his own...

Well, I can tell you how the folk from PJ list does it... We made Garden

recognise fellow list members on the concert site. It works pretty well.

Where did you get that from? Layne and Jerry do have their fall-outs,

we'll get Layne solo album, and then... Who knows?

PJ - Vs.

AiC - Dirt

TotD - TotD
JH - Are you experienced?

Honorable mention to Singles soundtrack. Actually, the list should

No flame taken, Chicka.

The flame was mine concerning "Mind Riot." I still can't stand it, but
tastes differ. Then again, since it is clearly another song in mourning of
the great Andrew Wood, maybe I should take it easy on Chris. He lost a
friend.

Also, have you heard the 1988 demo "Songs For Ozzy"? This is all Cornell's
playing. Yes, he's quite a talent. I agree.

Here's what I would guess they were...

Kim - Somewhat spacy. A bit of a rebel. More intrested in thinking and
talking and expressing himself than actually writing.

Matt - Very intense character. Watch out, because he's not quiet, and he's
got a very fast brain. ADD with Hyperactivity.

Ben - A bit of a loner. He's a nice kid, but doesn't have millions of
friends.

Chris - An all around bad kid.
