My favourite drink (I just have to contribute here) has still got to be the
immortal Jack Daniels, mixed with anything, if it's mixed at all. And yes, I
like beer. Canadian beer. It doesn't taste like water, you see... :)

My favourite drink? I'm on my provisional drivers license here in Australia,
which means NO ALCOHOL if I plan to drive - so, favourite non-alcoholic
drink would go to Dry Ginger Ale, best alcoholic drink (watch your head when
you drink this stuff) Benedictine - jeez these monks knew what they were
doing when they made this!

In case anyone cares, I only just got Louder Than Love on CD! Yes, I had
heard it before on vinyl and cassette, but now I have a copy to truly call
my own! COOOL! Just reminded me of what a great album it is!

Whilst on the discussion of deep and meaningful lyrics, would anyone care to
analyse Big Dumb Sex? Me, being the shallow kinda lyrics' meanings finder
that I am, would take it personally to be my response to seeing an
incredibly gorgeous lady (eg. Carolyn the Magnifique Female), but hell, this
is from the same guy who would take Blackhole Sun to be a meteorological
thing :)

Also, what sort of guitars do Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell play? I'd just be
interested 'cos I'm buying a guitar for myself in the very near future,
although not specifically to play SG - there's a huge world of music out
there and I don't know how long I'd have to play before I could dream of
play SG stuff!

All comments welcome!

Jackhammer.

PS. Would anyone be interested in hearing SG doing a cover of the Pushbike
Song? Just wondering :)

They both favour Gibson SG's, and Chris sometimes uses a Les Paul.
I saw them for the first time at Reading this year and I hate to say I was
really disappointed. The songs did'nt have the power, the sound was crap and
they just looked bored. Cool cover of the Doors " Waiting for the Sun " but
not what i'd hoped for. They are still the best band ever though...of course!!
Please anyone mail me back with their thoughts on Reading and their fave SG
riffs, mine are, Cold Bitch and Searching with my good eye closed.

Feelings - emotion - things that can not be learned! No amount of education
(formal as in school not life) can teach a person to feel. An IQ is just an
IQ, learning more facts will not help you use your emotions. Mr. Cornell is (I
feel) a deeply sensitive man, with the intelligence to see beyond the obvious.
Working in a highly profession environment, I find that the sheep skins is the
all mighty god and having a sensitive side is definitely not a plus. It can
make for a cold world to work in. Thank God we have people like Chris to help
us touch the needs and wants of the human soul.

 Are we happy now?

Look, I mention the name to get people moving - we were going down fast to
useless junk and needed to be stirred up a bit. I did say all you other SG
freaks, I can't help it if I don't know your name when you never post. We have
been told that there are over 200 people on this list, so how come the same 10
or fewer post all the time. If my posting made you come out of the wood works
- - - great - I love hearing comments from everyone. I think I can say with very
little disagreement, that I am one of the few people on this list that won't
flame. I try to encourage new people and smooth over some of the rather ugly
flames. Am I trying to be a martyr - NO. The SG list is the first list that I
have found, truly interesting and I have met some really great people here. I
don't want to see it go away - at lease until I do.

Once again I'm sorry if I offended any one on this list. I will sit in the
corner now and not post back to the list for a few days - is this punishment
enough?

Subject: Blind Dogs / Reading

I've got a few questions here. First does anyone have a copy of the
Basketball Diaries Soundtrack? I want to get it for the
studio version of Blind Dogs but I don't know if the rest of it's
any good. I mean, there's no way I'm gonna spend 15 quid for just 1 track!
Is it worth buying for the rest of the tracks as well? When I heard
Blind Dogs on the Self Pollution Radio broadcast the end of it kinda
reminded me of Rusty Cage in a way. I dunno - just the way Chris finishes it
off...........

Next - I didn't manage to get to Reading this year. I REALLY wanted to go
but didn't manage. Anyway the thing is that the place I usually get boots
from seems to have gone down the pan (they don't answer phones, reply
to letters etc) and I ain't got a clue how to get a hold of anything like
this from anywhere else. If there's anyone out there who knows where I could
get any or if anyone's got a recording of the Reading show I'd be sooooo
happy if they could give me a copy (I'd send the tapes, postage etc.....)

Apart from this I've got serious doubts about when (or if!) we're ever gonna
see Alive In The Superunknown over here in the UK. I can't even get
Tower Records to order Loudest Love for me even though it's on the card
in their imports section!

About Like Suicide - it all kinda makes sense now when you think of it
being about a bird. I'd never have seen it before tho' - maybe I'm just
a bit outta touch with my 'feminine side' like Dan said....
Then again, most guys are :)

Sorry its a bit long, but, hey, its my first post.

Vikki with Flame-thrower here. What does Chris Cornell's education have to
do with his exceptional ability as a writer? The skills/tools of a writer
include imagination and intelligence, access to books/magazines/etc., a
dictionary, organizational skills and focus. All of this is attainable
without schooling. What makes CC's writing so unique is his ability to
sculpt a MOOD with words. This allows us to interpret and incorporate the
versus into our own lives. That is talent and personality, not education.

o.k....i'm ready...

jeezuz, i subscribed to this list about 2 months ago but i think this
is the first post i've made. i've read the digest religiously but i
never seemed to have time to post anything...now i'm getting tired of
being `out of the loop' and i'm MAKING TIME, DAMNIT!!! just for the
record, i am a faithful attendant in the `garden of sound' and there
is no other band performing at their level at this point in time,
imho, of course.

so with your permission, i'm ready to bust into the `sacred circle' of
sg discussion and make some noise.

anyway, i read a post from clown a few days ago about chris' lyrical
content and its superiority to the work of his english professors.
(something like that...forgive me for the misquote)

anyway, i thought i'd share an experience to bolster the wisdom of mr.
clown with that kooky bazooka. (can i be `grote with mortar launcher'?)

i turned in a portolio of my work to my honors english professor last
year, and just for the helluvit i had scribbled some cc genius on the
title page..."I'm a searchlight soul, they say
But I can't see it in the night
     		  I'm only faking
     		    When I get it right..."

anyway, my professor circled it when he graded it, and commented "wow,
this is great? is this yours?" i apparently forgot to attribute it, so
i stopped in and told my professor who to credit for that lyrical
loveliness. He took down a list of all soundgarden's albums with the
promise to start a collection! is that cool or what????

anyway, thought you folks might like to know...later...

birth ritual
lyin' like needles
on forest earth
euphoric rush
trees bend to pray for us
i'm sputtering
life called to shame
late for the birth ritual, ritual, ritual, ritual

you can drive my tail
to watch the surface
a (birth?) ritual
a bunch of idiots
now i woke up blessed
and good strives for heart ache
marked for the death ritual, ritual, ritual

chorus:
and you start my son
to face this garden
don't light a cigarette before the execution
and now to see your crime
for every mirror now
and another drug to every birth ritual

i took the drug
to make me stay
and now everything
died in shyness
the snake retreats
that misty flames
and waits for the birth ritual, ritual, ritual

bright until the moon enswirls her

here goes the seasons lyrics

seasons
summer nights and long warm days
starving as the old moon falls
in the mirror shows another face
another place to hide it all
another place to hide it all
and i'm lost behind
words i'll never find
and i'm left behind
as the seasons roll on by
sleeping with a full moon blanket
sand and feathers for my head
dreams have never been the answer
dreams have never made my bed
and i'm lost behind
words i'll never find
and i'm left behind
as the seasons roll on by
and i want to fly above the storm
but you can't grow feathers in the rain
and the naked floor is cold as hell
naked floor reminds me
oh the naked floor reminds me
that i'm lost behind
words i'll never find
and i'm left behind
as the seasons roll on by
if i could be sure of the words
there are more things to say
could you crawl into my world
and take these words away
should i be inside myself
then would i be the same
that i'm lost behind
in words i'll never find
and i'm left behind
as the seasons roll on by

The song is the first single from the Foo Fighters' first album (Singer and
guitarist is Dave Grohl of Nirvana). I've heard the song a zillion times yet
never cought the title of it :P

Enjoy.

Hello. (I have four things to say)
#1: I am one of the less common mailing list responders, but I do enjoy
learning everything about the band. I just wanted to say that not everyone
that doesn't respond isn't a diehard fan. I'm just an introverted person, I
guess, and I don't get much inside information about SG.

#2: About "Like Suicide": I agree. About every time I heard that song, I
wondered about it, and after seeing the explanation of the lyrics, I too was
moved, greatly. Damn, that's deep. Chris is one of the best songwriters of
all time.

#3: The favorite drink thing? I'm a vodka person, myself. I love
screwdrivers.

#4: Who is Kev's mom? I won't say who, but it wasn't me...

Subject: best seattle albums of the 90's

Hey list!

You know and I know....eventually Rolling Stone and every other magazine in
existence will be having a best album countdown of the 90's. Since everyone
who reads this....knows that the musical event of the 90's was the explosion
of the Seattle music scene. What I propose: send me/post your top 5 or 10
Seattle rock albums from the 90's. There are only 2 rules...1. the album
had to be released after Jan 1, 1990. and the album has to have a
seattl-ite in it. Try to stick with the theme of most influential....just
to get some cohesion.

For Example:

My 10 most influential album of the 1990's:

1. Nevermind - Nirvana (started it all...how can you not vote for this album)
2. Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden
3. 10 - Pearl Jam
4. 8-Way Santa - Tad
5. Superunknown - Soundgarden
6. Vs. - Pearl Jam
7. Piece of Cake - Mudhoney
8. Dirt - Alice in Chains
9. Fast Stories...from Kid Coma - Truly
10. Every good boy deserve fudge - Mudhoney

Note: soundtracks or compilations dont count. Mother Love bone was
released in 1989. Silverchair is not a seattle band. Dont mistake them for
soundgarden, pearl jam or nirvana.

Me again, folks!

You know, while it might SOMETIMES be fun to see flames being thrown (only
when they're done for a very good reason, or when just done in jest, which
is usually the case - although there seem to be some on the list who are apt
to take things the wrong way), I felt sad for our poor Jamie.

Why should she have to sit in the corner and not make any postings?
GET OFF HER BACK, WHOEVER'S BEEN FLAMING HER!!!! There is nothing wrong
with her mentioning the names of some of us on the list, surely!?

It's called "This is a Call" and is performed by the Foo Fighters. I think it's a fucking gay song
and it's definitely turned me off to the Foo Fighters.

Australia's good "youth network" radio station, Triple J, played a few songs
from this album only yesterday. It's called Washing Machine. Some pretty
cool songs on it, at first listen anyway.

From Triple J again, I can answer this too. The Foo Fighters - yes, that
band that seemed to cause a bit of debate on this list a couple of weeks
ago! I've liked all their songs I've heard (on the radio) so far. Nothing
deep & meaningful, and nothing that will probably stick in my mind for many
years to come, simply some catchy tunes that are kinda fun to listen to.

Just my ideas..............

Hello Kevin. Great to hear from you! But I just wanted you to know that I
don't think (or I hope not) anyone ever said that those people who don't
make postings to this list aren't diehard fans. I agree with you entirely
that this is not the case! It's quite understandable that some of us don't
have time to write - heaven knows just reading all the messages keeps us on
our toes enough - and that others feel no need to respond because someone
else will make the point they would have made themselves, and that still
others simply enjoy reading without having to become a part of the
discussions. That's quite okay!
The point I (& Jamie) made was please don't "have a go" at those who do post
to the list who happen to mention the names of others who also post to the list.
